Roaming on a pre-HoT account it’s painfully obvious just how bad the power creep is. Sure you can build for mobility and enough tankiness to not be a hindrance to teammates. But wow the PvP in this game is just all over the place anymore. Perma stealth..perma sustain.. 2 second condi kills.. quit playing about 2 weeks ago don’t expect to come back.
stack/counterstack is still way too unbalanced imo. The whole idea of 24/7 servers and buying your way onto a server is just flawed. I guess it keeps their gem prices up tho.
Nah they would have to care and allow people to auto-balance teams. PvP games like tf2 cod ect have those features because without it why even bother.
Blame a Christian holiday for a poorly designed server system. Other times it must be rosh hashana or the summer solstice. That darn easter bunny is killing WvW.
I was also thinking of buying a 2nd account so I could bandwagon around looking for a place to play when I log in. Decided that isn’t an acceptable solution, game is just too neglected. Gunna put the money twords an NES classic instead. Nintendo will save the game industry.
Worst part is a lot of them brought their terrible alt accounts to mag now all the fights are filled with rallybots and runaway cowards. Was much better being #2 server. Starting to see why BG would run away from even numbers so often.
This is a terrible change. Now my server doesn’t even fight once the matchup shows a win/loss about 15 mins in. We afk defend until the next one. 3-2-1 theres always someone close to you in score to try to pass or keep them from passing you. 2-1-1 theres a huge gap not worth bothering over. Nope no 2v1 here.
Ouch they give up after 15 mins? That’s a shame.. PPT will do that I guess. What about when matched up against a guaranteed win server? Do they all just fairweather out for the week? Been there I know it’s harsh.
I hope your guild still has fun playing together regardless. If your solo you should really move somewhere else.
How do you stop people from only playing on the #1 server? Poor #1 lost a week now they go poof.. 2 skirmishes all weekend long. Maybe if they start pulling OT again they will get their bandwagon back.
Every few months players/guilds get randomly assigned to newly created “tourny” servers that are Anet balanced. Transfers during the tourny are locked. These servers play a tourny for a month, winning server gets some bragging rights and rewards. Then everyone gets returned to their normal server for the off-season for a couple months.
No. Many things need to happen to wvw…. this is not even remotely one of them.
Tourney servers sounds pretty cool to me. Not sure what things they can do to wvw other than class balance, population balance. Which they do work on some, quarterly or whatever. It’s fun but veterans want something new maybe.
This system encourages play to win. Way better than the 3-2-1 where you put all your focus on the 2nd place server.
Now you actually have to win stuff.. win fights, win capture attempts, win skirmishes.
The only way I see it working as a 24/7 mode is if the arrangements are more fluid. People are locked in to these servers with a huge paywall between them. 1800 gems is like 600 gold, or $20… people ain’t paying that just to balance out a mode that is broken.
Some people like playing PvE on the low servers.. flipping camps, flipping empty towers. But most like the big battles and would balance it out more if that were possible.
This is why,
Two weeks before a tournament there’s a massive transfer of players hoping to bandwagon to the winning server, which leaves their former server with less population/coverage for where they are ranked…..
Yeah I get why tournaments don’t work with the old school server system of a 1990’s mmo.
But why can’t they do a true event like a seasons. Where tickets are gained by completing the daily tasks, and ultimately the weekly goal. Maybe put some WvW exclusive gear or rewards that look cool.
I played in the tournaments and enjoyed the way it was setup, especially the 3rd one. I covet my Veteran of the Mists title. It sad they put WvW on the shelf. If you recall a post the director wrote about “focusing on the successful parts of the game”. Made after HoT came out I believe, had some WvW folks upset. Otherwise it could be good.

Why can’t they at least have major events similar to a tournament?
The last tourney they did a really good job of making a daily reward event with the achievements and a week long achievement goal.

Yeah, in my match the first place server has won all but one skirmish.
Here’s a better idea, balance the population and you will have a better WvW for all.
P.S. My server has won only one skirmish this match, the other server has zero wins.
That would make you a lock for 2nd place congrats, not that winning 1st or 2nd means anything. If your server is super dead like most you should find somewhere better to play.
The linkage im on has taken 2nd place in T1 NA for awhile now. Don’t really care tho as long as there’s stuff happening when I log in, which usually there is.
Having a special currency for winning as a server was probably a mistake. The personal achievements was good tho and I loved using the dolyak finishers.
Wish they would show some love for WvW but oh well, messing around and getting fights is still fun.
Funny how everyone just assumes their server will not win a single skirmish. Here’s an idea WIN a skirmish or two and you will earn more points…

People tend to forget all about inner cannons on dbl during an attack on garri. They work the same way hills cannons do on alpine.
That said, don’t rely on non-placed siege. Use shield generators smartly.
Dbl garri cannons have some limited use.. Still nowhere near the placement of alpine. The cannons and mortars on inner alpine garri have way better coverage.
The cannons on fire and air keeps are practically useless. They cover the actual gate and that’s it period, none of the inner keep, none of the outer keep. As apposed to alpine where inner cannons can actually cover holes in the outer walls and gates.
Again its a repurposed map not designed for WvW and it shows. If this is supposed to be competitive red team has a big handicap. TC lost last week as red, MAG loosing this week as red.

As for cannons and mortars — they’ve never been the go-to for defence. A well-placed treb in hills (air keep) managed to keep 10 of us out with one person one week. I was impressed and vowed to learn the placement. And I did
As for garri; there are solutions to proxy catas, etc .. just experiment.
The way the side keeps are underneath the attackers negates pretty much any counter trebs. Your friend must have got lucky with a PvD group using bad placement.
I find the cannons and morters in alpine have good use, especially inner. Its like they actually designed alpine for WvW, where this dbl sure feels like a repurposed map, as many have stated.
Not sure why people are saying it’s easy to defend in dbl? The cannons are practically useless, they don’t cover anything and seem to be placed backwards. Same goes for the mortars completely useless.
Scouting is a pain with all those long runs… PvD’ers just use cata or treb and defenders can’t do anything but wait around hope for even numbers.
For sure the majority of people playing prefer to attack doors and run away when there’s people to fight. So I can believe that most people voted for it. Same way they all stacked on one single NA server. Everyone stacked on a single warhammer server before they finally shut that game down too.
GW2 has a huge PvE pop tho so it will be going for years to come.
A tutorial map would help a lot.
I think the scenario should be small. Something like the lv 1 – 10 free trials of wow or eq.
My favorite was when warhammer made their tier 1 areas f2p. Everyone down leveled to lv20, masses of people fighting in the little starter maps.

If your playing EST nights/morning you’ll probably want tier1, tier2 has big gaps most of the time. BG – TC – Mag all pretty good right now.. maybe JQ dunno..
Make sure you buy the HoT expansion. Pay a little money to get an advantage against people who didn’t pay.
Most people only play when there is a commander tag, Anet themselves have said it..
A good bit of dead zones and population deficits may come from this.
Without a tag there is no focus to these maps, people don’t know who’s where and who’s doing what. They simply won’t play if there is no focus.
Expanding siegerazer’s area would be a positive imo. He never runs from a fight to go backcap, my kinda guy. He’s always positive and never trolls. And only spawns when greatly outnumbered.
The commander guesting idea is cool too, I’d rather see progress maps, where there is no need for a tag, and no ability to ninja PvD.

Hehe spawncamp dead YB server. Have enough blob left over to K-train dead FA server. Talk about how it’s somehow a “plan” and has to do with server loyalty instead of numbers.
I do agree on BG having a force or “militia” of people that will pull overtime and do so very often. Also explains why the hibernation happens.
Just too bad you need 3 servers to have a good match. Apparently the servers that come close are stuck in glicko land. Time to redo WvW, these servers are just no fun for 24/7 WvW.
So there’s definitely 1 server that can maintain a 24/7 WvW (BG). JQ can try riding on their coverage but probably end up back in T2 fairweather town.

Can’t have a good time in WvW anymore so broke. People trying to get on the FULL servers just to play the game a little. =(
Blow dem servers up make a fun WvW instead.
They balance between the 2 accepted game modes, PvE and PvP. WvW is no longer considered the PvE endgame. Gold farm and grind is the new end game wewt!

I would not consider EBG is as a simple symmetrical plopping down of objectives. Care was given regarding the distances between objectives so they could be trebbed based on team strength; for example providing red team with certain defensive advantages since red team was intended to always be the weaker server. Red is the only team that can treb SMC from their keep. So EBG is not a symmetrical map really. I guess I don’t see a purpose of posting a “rough draft” of a symmetrical map if the intent was for it to be something more like EBG.
You can nitpick little things here and there with EBG but it is basically symmetrical. Red keep is a double edged sword. as it can just as easily be trebbed from SMC, arguably giving red team a big disadvantage.
Those BL’s tho, the way they were quasi-designed to be 3-way, then when that didn’t work they just reverted all keep WP’s back to home team. It still gives attack advantage to the south and opens up easy, natural 2v1’s… not fun.. for me anyways. and just too much runningggg.
In Everquest 2, you could remain in stealth until you attacked. Then there was only one very short-term in-combat stealth
GW2 stealth is so overpowered it knocked you into last decade.

Reflect fields turn projectile range attacks into friendly fire. It can actually wipe a pew-pew heavy zerg if their not careful. It’s kinda lame imo but good melee players should be able to handle their health.
I was excited for stronghold till I found out it was just another 5v5 pvp map, and not much different from the old ones.
I’m all for a small 3-way map to replace the BL’s. Just cuz it’s small dosen’t mean it can’t have “fighting lanes” or whatever.
the population imbalance won’t be solved by anet. they can’t fix fairweathers. every tier and server can queue a map in na prime/late na. even in t4. even CD. we can queue 1 map in every 1 timezone on weekends, it’s relative to who’s tagged up and if he/she is getting rolled.
Yes anet won’t solve it. That’s why they should give people the tools to play when and how they want to. If your t4 is dead all week you could pinch hit in a different tier. Like kovu with his 3 accounts.

Stealth spam puts me to sleep, the targeting in this game is bad enough already. But I don’t expect anything either, in regards to WvW.
Im sorry i meant besides loosing stealth as opening hit should get people out of stealth when hit by direct damage only not condis aswell. And no other game i played was “broken” because of people getting out of stealth when hit by direct damage. Would get thiefs to better time their close aproaches on targets and not just go in and be at ease because will be able to have stealth and run away without fear of repercussions.
Yeah I agree condis remaining from previous hits should not effect stealth but taking hits should remove stealth. Just like pretty much every PvP MMO. It’s that way for reason.
Not sure why all these people are talking about thieves, this thread is about stealth, as the OP reminded us.

A three sided map with each server having a main keep on top of a very tall mountain, various towers would be on the sides of the mountain descending down into the valley. In the deep valley between the three mountains would be a variety of minor objectives

The borderlands are either a 1v1 or 2v1 scenario, never a 3 way fight, which is what WvW is designed to be.
I’d like only 3-way maps, and without all the useless areas you have to run across on the BL’s. To make the borderlands roamer friendly lower the map cap on them.

That’s how stealth usually works in pretty much every other game ever, wonder if there is a reason for that.
I have no problem dealing with thieves either, don’t even use some cheese duelist build either just regular WvW builds. Guess that’s why they abuse the broken stealth mechanic to reset fights constantly and call is “resilience”. Just not made for WvW really.. just trolling..
Condi mesmsers are more of a pain when using some of these “play themselves” rune sets and builds. But I guess baddies prefer thieves since its easier to run away and reset with no penalty.

Thats not acceptable. Those classes are weak in WvW, only really good for 1v1 sniping or full mobility troll builds. Maybe scrapper but I’m not buying HoT as a WvW exclusive player.

So they designed stealth expecting people to use the honor system? That’s just bad design then. That stealth disrupter is a joke too, I get why stealth needs countered in WvW but that’s a bad solution.

Being able to fight while stealthed is silly. And the main counter being a item you have buy and use 10 supply to actually use. Like I want to go into my inventory and run supply to counter stealth.
I guess they were going for some kind of “behind enemy lines” strategy game. It didn’t work and whoever designed it is probably at Amazon games by now.
