It’s a good change, people will get used to it.

Two minor code changes I can think of that would make it better.

1. Prefix each team chat message with shorthand abbreviation of the originating map.

[JQBL] message 1
[BGBL] message 2
[EB] message 3

This will reinforce in people’s minds that it is a global chat, save the scout typing it out every time and stop people whinging that the scout didn’t relay the borderland designation in their scout report.

2. Change the aggressive suppression rules of map chat to match those the relaxed rules for team chat.

People are used to using /t because suppression rules are less strict, commanders will switch back to /m if they don’t get suppressed. Some non-English speaking commanders on our server use entirely text macros so they can’t afford to be suppressed.

Should invulnerable players deal damage?

I have started to notice some SEA guilds are using invuln to engage and apply damage without risk and then retreating.

I didn’t mind when invuln was used defensively to save yourself (or your friends) but now it is being used offensively for bombs I believe we need a rethink.

We should consider changing the invulnerability so players can’t do direct or condition damage.

There is very little counter play when fighting invulnerable players.

Does anyone else find it odd that invulnerable players can deal damage?

surprised to see JQ so low on PPT.
They even have more total kills than YB. At what timezone do they gain that many kills? It has to be NA right?

SEA is our prime. Last night I ran for 5 hours on EB. Our group never wiped and our main problem was finding a merchant to clear our bags.

YB SEA is has poor builds for zerging and melt easily on engage, but they are good at PvD/PPT.

DB SEA is OK when RF is running at full size but otherwise they melt easily also.

Not sure who RF is but they must be a PPT guild rather than a fight guild because they ran away whenever we approached them. (Not that there is anything wrong with being a PPT guild but it’s rather boring for all involved)

My biggest problem with wells is their cooldowns. They should be halved, at least in PvE. Long cooldowns are boring.

My problem is they deal damage too slowly for the cooldown offered, everyone in WvW knows not to stand in wells these days.

They should do higher damage with less pulses rather than low damage with lots of pulses.

I will jump on gankers when our group wipes them.

They are happy to outnumber single players but when they are outnumbered suddenly they aren’t so brave.

I know it infuriates them that a no skill zergling is corpse jumping them – even though they may deny it.

AC view hacking

A while ago Arenanet put in a fix for AC view hacking and it seemed to work.

It appears that people have found a way around it and we are now getting arrow carted in places that shouldn’t be possible to hit with an AC.

Has something changed with the arrow carts, a new hacking tool been found or something else?

I like server linking also. It has reinvigorated WvW somewhat. On the downside, it did bring in a bunch of people that think it is OK to build paper ACs instead of superior ACs

I see issues with this idea.

Quite often we have a smaller aggressive group which is and looking for fights (and are quite good at them).

The larger force knows this after wiping a few times and now refuses to come out and get rid of us – they just start hiding behind superior ACs.

They are happy to sit in that keep for the next four hours just firing ACs rather than fight us.

If we enter not only are we faced with a carpet of red circles from 20 arrow carts you are now suggesting we donate supply to help them continue their passive gameplay.

You are essentially rewarding siege humpers which is what this game does not need.

In the case where you have a small group defending against a large group your idea is solid.

You guys gank me all the time 6:1 and you were chasing me from sentry to sentry last night on my zerker necro lol

Reminds me of two nights ago. A thief from DPS guild on FA tried to gank me. Reaper 3->4->2 and he ended up being the one that got ganked. So funny. His Druid team mate that was trying to gank me at the same time then ran away.

Next night, DPS had 6-8 guys trying to gank – because they weren’t good enough to win 2v1. I lost that 6v1.

Re-read the OP and you’ll see that’s not the case here. In fact most of the time people say “DBL is bad because nobody gonna bother in defending it”, which implies the red team won’t play it even if it’s their own map, which isn’t the case as we can see the red servers are indeed winning. And honestly, it isn’t because people aren’t attacking because K-trainers will always look for an empty map and DBL would be their first target if it was empty as everyone claims.

One person (the OP) is not “most of the time” in my opinion.

I think every server is going defend their home BL.

So having DBL is a huge advantage because guilds that want fights are going to choose alpine and pugs will follow them.

If DBL actually hurt the red server as all you DBL haters claim, all red servers would be losing bad (except maybe for FSP) and unable to even keep up with the other two servers that have alpine. That’s not the case here.

I think most DBL haters are claiming the opposite. It helps the red server. As evidenced by the NA matchups where T1, 2 and 3 are being won by the red server.

The deserted borderland offers a huge PPT advantage to any server that has it because no one wants to play on it – so their entire borderland ticks with nearly full PPT in their favour.

How it got 75% of the vote is beyond me.

Must have just been some first class trolling from our PvE players filling out the survey.

Mixed borderlands imbalances WvW match up too much and needs to be either full DBL or full Alpine. Never a mix.

I would like see how a city map works in WvW.

Something along the lines of Divinity’s Reach, Ebonhawke or the Black Citadel but with the standard set of objectives.

Black Citadel, are you kidding me? I can’t even stand to set foot in that place. Ugly and convoluted. The opposite of what we need in WvW.

Aesthetics are irrelevant – I was talking conceptually.

I mean a tighter map where people are going to run into each other but roamers/havoc can avoid zergs by taking back streets, tunnels etc.

Wide maps like deserted BL are not fun – so I think a tight map like a city would be worth a try.

Elite Concept: Harbinger

I like the name Harbinger.

I don’t like pets at all, therefore I don’t like any of the shroud skills. I also think from a technical perspective that having a lot of rodent minions around might stress the server out in WvW.

I’m not a fan of the sword skills either as they sound boring to use (all 3 skills only do basic damage and life force drain — there are no combo finishers, no movement skills, no pulls, no utility like blocks, reflects, CC etc). Is sword #2 a PBAOE or ground targeted?

I think it is essential that melee has movement or pull skills to help balance out kiting and also CC to stay on target. I prefer movement because many runners have some stability.

Necro should be heavily rewarded with superior damage for going melee because they just don’t have the invulns, blocks, etc that most melee classes have to sustain themselves. So I would like to see more damage or more utility on the sword.

I also don’t like Health->Life Force conversion concept – it would be better to go the other way Life Force->Health to add to our sustain. Health is something you can’t readily restore whereas Life Force is easy to restore. Health has far more value than Life Force IMO. Sacrificing something of value for something of less value doesn’t appeal (even though you are giving me twice as much). I may be swayed on this idea though. Nothing in that utility bar would make me swap out my wells and corrosive poison cloud though.

Reprisal should have a multiplier effect so incoming damage is multiplied by when returned or all attacks (instead of one attack) during the 5 seconds are returned. 30 seconds is a long time to wait for recharge on returning 1 attack. What if someone does a simple auto attacks on you? You return 1k damage to them and then you’ve got a 30 second cooldown to wait for. If it said “Sacrifice 5% health to return double damage to enemy for 5 seconds” then that would be interesting and possibility worthwhile because it then becomes a block/invulnerability for us (something we lack). No one would attack us while we had Reprisal up (would need a visual indicator such as a green or red aura). It should then be renamed to “Stop Hitting Yourself”.

Dread Grasp is probably too OP, with 3000 damage you would down a player with one keypress. My Ghastly Claws (1072 dmg) hits a WvW tower lord for 20k-25k and you’re talking about three times that damage (60k-75k). For anyone slightly glassy it means instant downed state and for a tank character that’ll mean at least half or 3/4 health bar gone.

Sorry that review overly negative. Everything I didn’t criticise was OK so there were plenty of good areas

Because Necros have Shroud Form?

Invulns make people switch target in PvP/WvW whereas Shroud doesn’t because they’re still getting numbers. Shroud is generally useless when a team is spiking you down.

I think the class that has the least amount of disengagement ability (necro) should have the highest amount of invulnerability/blocks/sustain.

I think all professions with melee builds should have invulns/blocks, so the Reaper should have had something added when it was invented by Robert Gee.

A thief and mesmer should have less invulnerability because they have excellent ability to disengage from any fight that isn’t going their way.

Invulns and blocks should be balanced against disengagement ability.

That’s why I think it is fair that a slow Guardian has plenty of blocks and invulns while a Mesmer should have less nvulns/blocks and a Reaper should have them retrofitted.

Since my time in wvw, on occasion I’ll hear a player say that the opposing server has a spy in our group, watching everything we do, using up all the supplies, or whatever mischief that can be done. Is this something that actually happens, or is it just paranoia?

It definitely happens, I’m not so sure about using up supply and pulling tactivators but I know of at least one case where our server has spied on the opposition server to report movements and strategy.

I really doubt that every time someone says ‘there is a spy’ that there actually is one. Often luck or scouting plays a big part.

I think it is individuals that do the spying rather than something being organised at a strategic level by the server’s leaders.

I don’t really like it but I do know that we have had multiple spies from other servers on our team speak/discord and I also know of one case where we had one on theirs.

So I guess, even though it sucks, if everyone does it, then it balances out.

It would probably require rewriting the game from scratch or the at least the servers from scratch.

Throwing more hardware at it probably wouldn’t help much either.

For reaper, I go zerk armour and weapons, cav trinkets, scholar runes, sigil bloodlust/accuracy, superior sharpening stones, +10% seaweed.

I don’t like pure Valkyrie because it locks you into Death Perception (or you somehow have to stack large amounts of vulnerability on all of your opponents to use Decimate Defences).

For WvW I’d much rather take Foot in the Grave over Death Perception because WvW is stun central and a stunbreaker and stability on 10 second cooldown is kinda nice.

I swap out cavalier trinkets for zerker if things are going easy and swap more cavalier if the groups we’re fighting are tough.

I tried marauder but I think it’s a waste as we already have so much vitality. I think Marauder is better suited to classes with a low initial health pool but want to run almost glass cannon builds.

For small scale, I prefer Rabid or Rabid/Dire mix. Don’t bother with condis in a blob situation.

We had multiple mortars firing on one spot (a choke in a broken wall at Veloka) and someone said on map chat he got 120 stacks of burning (maybe he had a lot of resistance to build that much?).

I only got 27 stacks of burning in a very short time and wasn’t standing near the choke for very long (I managed to clear just before I went down).

The shots were coming from their keep so to suggest “just destroy them” isn’t realistic because we’d have to break their outer keep wall to reach them.

Siege humping in general is over powered.

Siege and walls should only be there to delay the fight long enough to get reinforcements – it should not stop fights from occurring.

- ACs are too weak individually but over powered when you build multiple of them (*cough*Yaks Bend*cough*). ACs need to scale their damage based on how many manned ACs in their vicinity so you get diminishing returns for each additional AC you build.

- Mortars need to stack fire slower because it unbalances the PvP too far in one direction.

- Cows need to drain slower. why? → getting a walls down = fights.

- Dragon banner – remove it from the game. why? → it’s nothing more than a mobile siege weapon.

It is time, show the population numbers.

I think if we had access to population data at hourly intervals we could develop a good matching algorithm that takes time zone coverage into account (or at least show why Arenanet’s matching algorithm is optimal).

I play a rev sometimes in wvw, and I would sure like to know how I can spam unlimited boons. Must be some super secret special button that I haven’t seen, yet.

See method 1 where he swaps legends to keep his energy high and the boons flowing.

The problem with nerfing this is you don’t want to totally ruin herald’s facets or boon duration builds at the same time.

I think adding a cooldown to facets so using this exploitative switching tactic will be impossible but boon application and boon duration still work if you use the skill “as intended”.

Greatsword was designed to be Necromancer’s power-cleave in PvE. Don’t expect it to be good in all game modes. It is best for spinning until you get dizzy and slowly working break bars with chill and claws.

Greatsword in all other professions is a viable weapon choice in all game modes.

The necromancer shouldn’t be the only profession with a PvE-specific greatsword.

That’s just making excuses for bad design.

Make siege invulnerable for first minute

The issue here is Meteor showers that completely overlap an entire wall killing siege with just 2 meteor showers.Reduce the dmg done from meteor on siege.

Happy for siege to be buffed against AoEs so long as more AoE skills are widened to be able to hit siege. Wells should definitely be in that mix of things that can hit siege. Right now, an entire zerg stands around holding their proverbial while the one staff ele in the squad of 50 waits for their Meteor Shower to come off cooldown.

Any server can unlock themselves if they choose to not play.

That takes weeks, mags will have paid their transfers by then.

I’d rather wait for a better PvP situation than move quickly and get a PvD scenario.

Seems like an odd move, will only unbalance tier 1 further.

If they are an NA guild they would be better off moving to JQ.

We have poor NA coverage and good SEA coverage.

They could move us back into T1 and find plenty of outnumbered fights.

Our map chat said their guild asked us for gold to move to JQ. Given they aren’t moving here I suspect our server didn’t pay (which is fair enough given they are server hoppers).

PvP? This is WvW, you sure you are in the right forums? In wvw we have zerg and blob, we have necro with epidemic. You think is not possible stack it to a deadly point? If it isn’t possible, why do people have to use boonshare to maintain that disgusting amount of resistance uptime? Bragging rights?

Doesn’t matter, the point remains, if they stack you with 25 that is just as bad as 100. If you don’t clear that bleed then you’re dead.

Durability Runes + Damage Reduction

This kind of video shows how useless conditions are in zerging/blobbing compared to small scale.

Even without resistance, watch those condis in his bar disappear in seconds and have almost no impact on his health.

Anyway, I don’t think durability runes are the problem, I think boonshare and boon duration is the problem.

Nerf order should be:

1. Boon share – targeting Signet of Inspiration
2. Boon duration – targeting Naturalistic Resonance
3. Durability runes

Let’s NOT nerf everything in one go, we want some level of sustain when you engage so we don’t revert back to the super boring pirate ship meta.

TL;DR – Nerf in baby steps. See how it balances. If still bad, proceed to next nerf.

Faction System Proposal

I really don’t like that idea at all.

I’ve considered the possible permutations of an instanced WvW myself in the past and decided it was a bad idea.

You don’t build a community that way and you’ll destroy the existing community and sense of belonging.

Servers have a community, you get a sense of belonging that instanced play does not offer. Servers have Teamspeak servers setup, guilds and pugmanders that we know and trust.

Everyone knows each other and builds up trust and friendship.

You won’t get that with a faction system.

Factions will just end up with some random pugmander who thinks he’s awesome but doesn’t know where to put a catapult. It’ll be like eotm – in other words, absolutely terrible.

What you will have is one server instance having a powerful fight/ppt guild dominating that instance while another guild on an opposition server is stuck on a different instance. Just like when eotm has a big guild running around.

These guild pirate ships that should be fighting, instead pass in the night.

It’s just not going to work for guilds and this is guild wars not pugmander wars.

If you think this idea is going to work, explain how the two fight guilds on Dragonbrand will manage to find two fight guilds on JQ on the same instance and fight each other?

Are we going to have to do BS like taxiing into a instance? That sounds fun, not.

I play with a guild that uses boonshare extensively and I also play in a PUG map blob.

I think the boonshare is way too overpowered when I compare them.

25 stacks of might, fury, quickness, stability, resistance, protection, etc.

Quite clearly OP.

Pugmanding is a huge part of WvW and it makes it almost impossible to win a fight as a pugmander if you don’t have boonshare.

When you get a pugmander (with a full map queue following him) versus a boonshare group (with a full map queue following them) then the boonshare group wins 95 times out of 100.

Saying things like “Organise yourself better” just doesn’t work as a proper group composition isn’t always possible with pugs. Sometimes we can barely find one mesmer to do a veil, let alone 4 mesmers that know how to boonshare and have builds set up for it.

In the long run it would make it simpler for guilds not to have to constantly do boonsharing also.

Depends, if one or two maps (EB/Home BL) are 100% your colour then you wouldn’t expect a queue on a map with nothing to take.

They have nerfed the reduce condi food in favor of more condi. They further boost it with increased condi stacks.

1. They also nerfed +duration foods so your point is moot.

2. Condi stack limits are irrelevant to PvP – if you have 25 stacks of bleed in WvW/sPvP you are already a dead man walking, 30 or 40 is hardly worse than 25, you’re still dead.
