From what I can tell, it looks like the new amulets will cost 10g each and the new traits will cost 3g each (plus 20 skill points). This is what I gathered from the video below:

Can a DEV please tell me the estimated size of today’s patch? The launcher (from my knowledge) doesn’t show the size, but only how many files, but I need to know the actual MB amount because of a unique internet situation I have this week.

Can a DEV please tell me if we’re talking 100mb, 500mb, 1gb. 2+, 3+ ? Just a ballpark would work.

So, I totally get that, but why not add a vendor that sells you tokens for silver? That would have solved the issue and shown a shred decency.

I think it would be cool to have, but I’m not going to lie, I got to 14 on the LB only when I decided to go 1 full month with only doing a hammer/mace warrior. It was cheesy and I never really felt great about it lol

I still think it’s pretty amazing that they are deleting an entire rewards system without leaving any way to convert to the newer system. People that stopped for a few months will come back to quite a surprise.

I’m a little confused by how you expect us to use our crafting materials in the first place. I can’t successfully complete any recipes, so it’s just going to sit there and (presumably) Anet will take them away and tell me it was my fault that I have so much Arcane Dust and nothing to do with it?

I, like hundreds of other players, will lose a large chunk of the only thing that i earned while PvPing, simply because I can’t buy the recipes.

Such a waste.

Anet’s actually statements during the first few months when people were complaining about the lack of features in SPvP:

‘We want this to be a game that you can pick up and play at any time. If you aren’t satisfied with the current state of PvP, take a break and we’ll still be here working as hard as we can to improve the game".

They failed to mention the most important part, ’just keep in mind, we may remove everything that you earned during that time and when you come back, you will only be compensated with 1 legendary weapon: The Shaft"

2) For god’s sake nerf the auto attacks already, auto attacks are way too strong in this game and should never be better damage than actual skills itself. If an individual would never really use his other skills (the situational ones) the player must be bad and not perform well at all. Now let’s take a look at how this is in the actual game (you all know what example is coming now). Spirit ranger, spam auto and put a massive load of conditions on your enemy without much knowledge of the game. This is bad design and should be changed

I agree with most of your suggestions. I too believe the game is too rooted to make these changes, but the fact that they are so rooted isn’t what will keep them from being changed. The reason they will never be changed are the parts I bolded above:

  • the player must be bad and not perform well at all.
  • without much knowledge of the game.

I hate to break it to you, but ANET chose a cusual driven, gem store business model. Now, if you think WoW has become casual, this game is FAR more casual. WoW looks like Dark Souls compared to this game.

I have come to terms with this, I realize that most of their decisions are based on the casual market and will proceed with casual play, because promoting casual play promotes more people playing (since most people are casual) and more people will cause more gems to be sold.

They should have completely separated PvE and PvP at the start, possibly making the PvP part a stand-alone mode for 15 bucks or so, then they could balance the game…for the good of the game…not to make Jane, the mother of 3, feel like she’s doing well, even though she’s being carried by auto-attack.

Hundreds (maybe thousands) of players will lose thousands of PvP mats come April 15th because there is currently no method to obtain the tokens needed to make items to spend the mats. This is really a silly proposition. Come April 15th, one of the only things that a PvP-only player like myself has acquired since headstart is going to be wiped away. I’m totally fine with that as long as there is a means to spend what I have left.

Imagine if in PvE they did away with Karma, but at the same time did away with all the Karma vendors, removing the ability for people to spend their million karma…PvE players would be in an uproar and the DEVs would fix it. Please fix this.

It seems to be intentional to remove purchasable consumable/gear tokens before the patch. Perhaps not through malicious intent from the Devs but from the “economists” involved in this transition from glory to gold. Just as they didn’t officially announce that the Locker would transition to the Wardrobe, they likely don’t want people with tons of left over PvP mats, legitimately earned I might add, to craft tons of more dyes.

I had also made a thread the Friday of the PvP stream and it received no response from the Devs.

This whole thing is really unfortunate. Even when the game starts heading in the right direction, it does so many wrong things along the way.

I always found it odd that steady weapons weren’t coupled with a self-assessing damage meter in-game. I know the fear of elitism in damage meters, but having one that tells your own DPS is pretty basic, essential, and oddly missing from this game.

The blog says that we should craft all our PvP crafting components into items.

How do we do this now that glory has been removed and the final components can’t be purchased anymore? Is there some temporary way to obtain item tokens so I can finish crafting my leftover materials?

Please answer this as well. I can’t imagine the hundreds of thousands of PvP mats that will just wash away because people have no means to use them because they don’t have the gear or consumable tokens.

I think the original line by Colin Brohanson where he said, “we don’t want you to just be like, ‘oh, I swung a sword…oh, I swung it again’”, is true.

Account bound ascended items

Good morning,

With the new blogpost, it was revealed that account bound ascended items would come in the April patch.

I didn’t do much PvE (or WvW) as I did almost all exclusive SPvP content. What little laurels I bought, I spent on ascended rings, amulets, etc. But I did that on 3 characters. I bought the same rings a few times.

Do I get any refund for this or an opportunity to convert it to a similar kind or am I just SoL?

Unranked Queue

So, here’s a question (purely for discussion):

If you had to choose one, would you prefer RANKED Solo Arena, or UNRANKED Team Arena? I’d imagine unranked team arena would still allow you to queue up by yourself or with 1-4 friends much like the rated version does now.

They better make transmutation charges (one per win) a reward for winning tPvP matches if this is as I expect it to be.

So, I think this would be nice, but it seems like a pipe dream. If you add all of the past changes up, they have been DYING to monetize the floundering SPVP population, but have failed, (example being paid tournaments, custom arenas, etc).

I believe (pure speculation) that we’ll have opportunities to unlock more gear, but to wear it we’ll need to use these transmutation items, which I again speculate will be bought with gems.

It looks great on paper, just like paid tournaments and custom arena did, but I believe they are in for a rude awakening.

Generally I’m happy. The good:

1. All the PvP locker skins can now be used across all game modes, infinity times if desired.

2. All my alts will now have my cool dyes.

The bad:

1. We might have to buy transmutation charges to change our PvP appearance (unconfirmed atm). However this would be a way for Arenanet to monetize PvP at least.

It seemed pretty confirmed to me. What do you mean by “unconfirmed”. Also, did you notice on the dye preview that it also seemed to be tied to transmutation stones? Are they charging gems to use dyes now too?

I know the forums are flooded with, “soon” and “we can’t talk about it yet” posts by DEVs, but I have a question that would be unfathomable if you couldn’t answer it:

What is the vision for PvP? You don’t have to share minute details, just tell me which direction we are headed.

All current traits will be usable on a new character in PvP. New traits that are added to the game will need to be unlocked though, similar to how new skills work.

Which goes against anything sPvP was supposed to stand for. Even as recently as your second Looking Ahead for 2013:

The addition of new skills and traits on a regular basis will of course mean expanded variety of abilities, builds, and tactics in PvP as well. As these additional skills and traits are added, they’ll be automatically unlocked and available for competitive PvP just like all existing skills/traits work today.

What happened? Another mass-layoff of the old PvP dev order?

GW1 was set up in a similar way and it worked out really well. Personally, I’m glad to see them picking up aspects of GW1 that worked and implementing them in GW2.

It’s nothing like GW1. In GW1, your other characters and new alts come with all the skills or equipment unlocked after you did that once on your account.

Ya, that’s one of the things that many PvPers get frustrated about. Not only do we get little to no information, ever…it’s done under the notion that, “we don’t want to say things that end up changing”. It’s interesting the tiny amount of info still sometimes ends up being false.

You can purchase any of the trait guides. Prices depend on tier and whether it’s new or not. So for every trait there will be an option to go out into the world and unlock it via specific content or just purchase it if you choose to go that route.

I hope the moderators aren’t at lunch. They are going to have work clearing up all the rage which will ensue.

Fwiw, Karl and Roy are good guys who do a good job for this game. It isn’t their fault the game has a PvE direction.

Seriously? I think if people would take a second to realize that you get gold from PvP now, they wouldn’t have the knee-jerk response of calling this anything related to PvE.

You can get all the trait stuff you need from doing nothing but PvP, so there’s no reason to get all up in arms.

GW1 was set up in a similar way and it worked out really well. Personally, I’m glad to see them picking up aspects of GW1 that worked and implementing them in GW2.

I’m definitely not up in arms, but I am very curious about the cost. I don’t like that they are heading in this direction with PvP (where each new addition needs to be “unlocked”) but I understand why. I just hope they realize something:

If you are going to add a price to the trait unlocks, it needs to be proportionate to the amount of gold a PvPer earns, not a PvE player. I have 30 or 40 gold whereas I know PvE players have much more. If it costs what would be reasonable to a PvE player, it would be a crap-ton for me.

They also mentioned something like: “existing characters will have all opd traits unlocked, but the new ones will be locked. Characters created after the patch will have all traits locked”.

… Does this mean I cant create a new character to fool around wih in pvp… But have to get 8 character slots, and unlock all traits on each profession and NEVER be allowed to delete and recreate one with different race/looks, because ill lose all traits?

That better not be the case…. I have alot of lvl2 haracters that are just there for pvp, and i occasionally recreate them :/.

It probably means you have to buy it.

I just hope existing traits are unlocked by default for pvp… It would e rather unfair if a completely new player jumped in pvp to try it out… But had 0 traits :P

There is a precedence though with the new heals. You had to unlock them with skill points (only earned in PvE), so I think with this addition, they are really working to pull PvPers out of the Mist. The problem with that? People like me don’t like PvE. I didn’t buy this game for PvE…and I won’t continue to play it if I’m forced to PvE.

I saw that, but in this article it said, “though some can also be bought from profession trainers.”.

The word “some” concerned me. If it’s all traits, I’m cool with that..as long as it’s not crazy expensive; but I bet it will be very expensive.

Reading IGN this morning I saw an article about the upcoming patch. This part in particular had me scratching my head:

“The big news is the addition of new grandmaster traits, and the fact you’ll need to unlock major traits via the new trait guide items. These will be found by completing specific content, like dungeons, bosses and personal story, though some can also be bought from profession trainers. Each class will also be getting a new grandmaster trait in a bid to offer more varied build possibilities.”

I know it says, “like dungeons…etc” so I am not starting a crusade quite yet, but I still want clarification. To get these traits, do I HAVE to PvE. I hate PvE, and especially the PvE in this game, so that is a deal breaker for me.

My question now:

Trickery II—Instinctual Response: Fixed a bug that caused this trait to grant fury and vigor while on cooldown.

How can this meet the hotfix criteria and healing signet and spirit of nature renewal remain untouched for quite a while again while both (Warrior and Ranger) are still being very dominant in the meta after six months already

Please explain this to me because I can’t understand the logic behind it

It’s pretty simple: One is a bug, which is not the intent of the design team.

Healing signet isn’t a bug, it’s just the product of a design team that is completely out of touch with the competitive PvP scene and even more out of touch with what the playerbase wants.

Here is a small hint to why stuff like this doesn’t get changed:
Judy is a mother of 3. She likes guild wars 2 because the art is pretty and she can make her little asura look adorable. Judy isn’t great at video games but she is willing to pay gems for a Quaggan backpack. Healing signet allows Judy to walk through content without ever having to touch the healing key or worry about health. It makes her “feel” powerful, even though the skill is doing all the work. Judy is none the wiser.

Judy buys gems, you don’t. Healing signet 8% nerf is probably already more than they want to go. I’m just being real.

Could we potentially get the ability to turn in 2 tokens (of any type) for 1 token of another type?

For instance: I don’t want any more gear, I want to try to create as many dyes as possible; however, I have no consumable tokens but a butt ton of other tokens.

I want to give 2 rabbit tokens, or tiger tokens, or paid tournament tokens, or light shoulder token, etc…….for 1 consumable token.

Heck, I’m fine with 3 for 1. I have like 1000 dust/orbs/crystals, etc…they will all go to waste if I can’t get useful tokens.

Enemy Casting Bar as GW1?

Things like that don’t fit into their “vision” for GW2. The problem with that? So many other things didn’t fit into their vision either, and now after mass exodus, they are having to add them (Solo Q, team deathmatch, arenas, etc). The fact that dueling, casting bars, and DPS meters weren’t added still baffle me. Before, when I would bring those 3 things up, I would get groups of people saying, “go back to WoW if you want those things! This is GW2, we’re special, we’re different and we’re a better game”. I have a hard time thinking too many people on the forums will hold that stance anymore because, ironically, most of those people defending that stance have actually quit the game.

The OP actually makes a good point, though. For this particular feature build, we have not shared much about what’s going on, we get that. Don’t mistake that with we’re not doing much, though.

I want to be clear: I genuinely feel sorry for people like Justin that provide their honest opinion on here. You become a punching bag, because you are the only one brave enough to show your face.

Having said that…. We provided quality feedback with constructive posts for 1.5 years. We watched the community crash and burn around us as good players and quality people left. We then have been hit by a few situations where the words conveyed by the developers has been, “wait a bit longer”, then eventually that turned into, “You should be providing better feedback”..essentially blaming us. The community is now so fed up and disgusted, we can’t contain our disgust in our posts. The forum posts are not the work of internet trolls, for the most part it’s people that were so hyped up for this PvP they stuck around even while it rotted around them, now the rot has begin to overtake them as well.

What I am about to say is 100% true and all hyperbole has been removed: I have never been as disappointed in a game as I am in this one. It had everything to be the best PvP MMO of all time. All it needed was quality support and staffing that allowed it to adapt on the fly and continue to build on its amazing foundation…and Anet (or possibly NCSOFT) squandered it. Completely squandered it.

Put up with having the reward chest bug for region transfer.
Put up with warriors having zero sustain for 10 months then being turned into a noob class going forward.
Put up with constant unreasonable moderation in the forums, despite being a clear gw2 fanboy.
Put up with the support team being unable to refund me 600k glory for about five seconds of miss clicking at 3am (despite being able to refund joe blogs for buying the wrong ascended trinket).
Put up with balance decisions showing blatant disregard for committed tpvp players

But this takes the biscuit. Arenanet please be straight with us about your content updates (and spare the maintenance/feature patch lingo).

I don’t understand why you guys haven’t been able to listen to previous posts by the developers. You claim they don’t listen to you but why can’t you listen to them? They posted that they will focus on other aspects of GW2 after the Living Story arc is completed. That means PvP will be changing. I mean honestly they have taken out Glory and specifically stated that they will be implementing a new reward system for PvP. They are blatantly telling you what will happen and you guys can’t be patient for one month or so? It’s not like you are paying a subscription after all.

I for one am looking forward to the focus on PvP that the developers will be bringing. I understand that they are working hard to bring new content to all of their fan base because ArenaNet is NOT some sort of big corporate monster that can do everything that we could ever want if we could only complain enough (though I admit it has worked in the past). They are human beings with limits, not machines.

I have been playing only PvP since head start…so, no, it’s not “just one more month”. For me, it’s been 18.
