Again, we were hit with a patch that didn’t even mention that we exist, let alone address some of the major concerns for PvP. What I don’t understand is: we all know (sans Jon Peters) that 8% nerf to healing signet will not be enough. Why not put that in there with a patch like this, that way we can prove to the devs for the next month that it isn’t enough.
PvP is the long forgotten step-child of this game and we are clearly treated as such.
I am giving Powerr and Grouch the benefit of the doubt here and accepting their word that this coming patch is as huge and significant as they say. I don’t really doubt their word about its size, my major worry is that all of the people that will soon uncover its many bugs have been left in the dark. I’m sure there will be at least 1 game-breaking feature or bug and when do we get to find this out? On live servers.
What’s the major issue with that? If the major bug turns out to be an SPVP only bug, we can expect to wait 3 months (literally) for a fix. If we get lucky and it spills over into PvE (Mesmer 1 shot bug, for example) then we can get a hotfix that day.
I am so beyond disappointed in this game and I’m not even sure a patch with this much promise can save it for me.
Eh, either way, what do you guys think?
Do you really think 600,000 points are a huge amount?
There is always that one guy that comes into a lighthearted thread and starts flexing…
Where in his post did he say, “BEHOLD, The king of all glory accumulation will now demonstrate his amazing glory stash!”
This wont be a problem soon , any gear acquired can be used anywhere so tough it out for a bit
The way you use “soon” in that sentence makes me think you don’t know what it means
Anyone care to enlighten me on what this patch will contain?
Any PvP stuff? Just bug fixes? Any information at all? It’s patch day and I have 0 idea what to expect.
10 glory booster = 1 other booster of your choice
Is that what you’re hoping for, or was that actually announced as a thing?
I got dishonored because the servers were crashing repeatedly for the past 4 days Q_Q
Dishonor too stronk..
They call me the dishonorable one aka Young Samurai
Real men only get dishonorable 1 time…and then….

Personally, I’m not surprised that the perspective of any new PvP incentives, whether that be the brand new reward overhaul coming in, or the ready-up weekend bonuses are tailored to bringing non-PvP players into the system.
Of course you would tailor an incentive campaign to the proper demographic.. the goal is to create incentive for a growing PvP population. Where do you think these people are going to be coming from?
Yes, this is a huge improvement for PvE/WvW folks. Yes, it’s assumed that PvE skins would carry over and PvP progression will be ‘reset’ in a way. This is breaking down a massively huge barrier for PvE/WvW folks to playing PvP.
Why can’t anyone understand that breaking down barriers to entry is a great start to improving the QOL of PvP players too? Stop being so ‘them vs. us’ and just realize that PvP isn’t private property in which a bunch of foreigners are getting day passes for.
In the new progression system, all the PvP players that have played for 1.5 years will be Shark/Phoenix rank, with nearly all access to any skins that will carry over to the new system. Nobody can know how advantaged the PvP players will be until the new system drops. What if it’s extremely hard to get skins?
All your remarks about PvPers being such peasants who have no gold, and were unable to play WvW/PvE because they had no money for food/oil.. wow. I received hundreds upon hundreds of gold from Wintersday gifts from my glory, so.. I think you missed the boat on a lot of things. Now I’m making good gold for just playing PvP… and I pretty much want for nothing. I have 9 chars lvl80 from Glory alone.. all geared in exotics from Glory to Gold conversion (Wintersday Gifts)
So, I think you’re just doin’ it wrong.
You should add to your tearfully written list of what PvPers get for playing from day 1, with a smile on their face:
- Every Profession in PvE Lvl80 from Tomes of Knowledge
- Every Profession in PvE geared in Exotics from Wintersday Gifts
- Cash per match completed. To maintain the huge cash reserve from Wintersday Gifts.
I will preface this by saying that I could be mixing two people up here, so if I’m wrong, let me know and I’ll correct it….but…
Aren’t you one of the people that “took advantage” of the birthday booster bug and ended up with millions of Glory? If so, I’m sure you’ve gotten everything out of PvP that you could ever ask. Some people have played for 1.5 years and have little to show for it and feel slighted by the direction that PvP is going. Currently, there are very few people that have stuck around to play PvP since launch and instead of rewarding those few while AT THE SAME TIME promoting the game to the PvE/WvW crowd, they are instead turning their backs on us, handing out free stuff to them and simultaneously farting in our general direction.
You guys been watching the recent tournaments with Cheese Mode?
Curious what you guys think about that double warrior comp beating down the competition.
8% shave will fix it…NO DOUBT.
8% is the best place to start. This way, they can shave it a little at a time over patches and then finally find that sweet spot. So, if they shave 8% per patch until it’s fixed, warriors should be at the correct HPS from healing signet right around June….of 2018.
I try to dabble.
Edit: In before Powerr comes in and makes us all look bad.
Edit2: For the record, almost all of those QP are from when it went to 1 QP a win. =p
Not going to lie, I laughed at the “I try to dabble”.
Also, dat Chinese food analogy…

I feel this is PR. Prove to me otherwise.
The enemy is of different color and is trying to inhabit your neighborhood.
ya, but were talking about this game. stay on topic please
Nope, it’s much, much higher than that. We have real metrics to observe these things.
I can be told, “I have this data here that i can’t show you that proves otherwise” but it’s going to be difficult to convince me away from what I see.
When I Solo Q and Skyhammer comes up, the first thing you see in almost all the matches is “GOD….WHY THIS MAP” or, “great skyhammer again”, or “The SPvP Gods hate me….Skyhammer again.” That doesn’t happen for any other map that I’ve played.
If so many people hate it, why not pull it out of the rotation while you guys, “look at your datasheets for answers” or whatever. Don’t make us suffer while Anet looks into it. Because we know the speed of Anet.
what does this line mean: “[Grouch] just won’t be as active on the forums or behind the scenes.”
Hmm, that did sound a bit ominous! Don’t worry – I’m still here, I’m just switching to a different team. It’s true that I won’t be as active on these forums, but I should still be active “behind the scenes” unless someone forgot to deliver the terrible news to me. -.-
Guild Wars 2 PvP is the main reason why I came to ArenaNet. I’ll always have my finger on the pulse, whether that’s from reading the forums in my spare time, or logging in to play after work.
Something something, touching moment, something something, this is not goodbye.
Your new title says, “Anet Alpha Team”. What exactly does an Alpha Team member do? Your new title is intriguing. I’m thinking you’re now the member of an elite squad with black suits, sunglasses and earpieces. Maybe your work is classified.
Wait…don’t tell me..because then you’ll have to kill me.
Obviously, The A Team
Was so temped to create a meme with Grouchs face on Mr T, would of been epic
Your wish is my command.

One of the things that sold me so much on this game at the start was, “PvE and PvP skills will be split”. The reason I liked it was because I thought there would be a PvP Balance team that didn’t have to answer to a PvE Balance team.
The way it appears, there is a PvE balance team, and when they make a change that breaks PvP, it takes an act of congress to get it reverted.
That’s not exactly the vision that I had in mind pre-launch…

Welcome back.
btw, posting in future epic thread.
the GPU wont do kitten.
get an I7 Extreme if you want to feel any difference to a normal i7 / i5 .
the i-5 4750 isn’t good enough for WvW?
Hello,
Does anyone out there run an r9 290? I want to know specifically in WvW how it performs. If you run 5670×1080, that would be even better to tell me what your FPS is.
I just ordered this and the rest of the parts for my build, and just wondering what to expect for Gw2.
My CPU will be a i-5 4570 as well.
Thanks!
The only surefire solo actions are sentry slaying and capping ruins.
If specc’d well and good at your class, it’s possible to solo camps and pick off stragglers; though both activities are much more effective in groups of 2-3.
You’ll find WvW frustrating because it’s meant to accommodate large scale combat; and you’ll find yourself ran over by superior numbers quite often.
That being said, small groups are often the most effective, working around the zergs/blobs and doing the small things that add to victory.
Will EoTM be more geared toward small skirmishes?
Well first off, it is up to you, not Anet. That said, I play solo for the most part (there are times I zerg surf if I am being lazy).
I am a defender. Meaning I lurk almost always in my home BL. From there, I retake camps, watch for sentries to be flipped, hunt down those folks and get into fights. The ruins area is also a great area for solo people to pick fights at.
What does ANet want you to do? Assume to have fun
That said, you contribute if you are killing or defending yaks, stopping/taking camp flips and being vocal on anything worth talking about (ie numbers of folks at towers etc).
If none of that appeals to you, as a solo player, /shrug. That really is all you can expect. You want to take towers/keeps etc, then you gotta group up
When designers make games, they typically hash out their vision for the “lone wolf”. Some MMOs make it a point that you can do X and Y alone, and they create that content to appeal to them. I’m just curious (because of ignorance in WvW) what they specifically designed for the solo/duo players to do and what they intended for us.
I am a solo player. I have played almost all SPVP since launch, and I dabble in WvW. I haven’t been playing much lately, but I’m intrigued by WvW.
As a solo player, I don’t like large groups. I am fine with being in a party, but I don’t want more than that. My question:
What does Anet want me to do? What vision does Anet have for a primarily solo player that just loves to PvP? Should i go to EoTM? Should I just roam alone in WvW? Where does the best experience exist for me (and players like me)?
Wrong Forum – Ooops
well they did try taking the communication approach, telling us what they had in the pipeline, and do you know what happened?
they got aggro and hate when the changes weren’t in the last update.
so i guess now they’ve figured if they don’t talk about plans then people can’t yell, scream and tantrum when the things they talk about aren’t happening right away.
my issue is that they presented it as a collaborated development but it’s pretty clear it was mainly a PR move. I use Healing Sig as the best guage..the community hates it..Jon peters loves it..so it stays. Our voice is more of a faint whisper.
We have a patch coming February 4th, and I have 0 idea what to expect. It could be the patch of the century, it could completely overlook PvP (shocker, I know), etc.
What other game, of this size and success, does this? Why keep the players in the dark so much?
- This game reminds me of Nintendo with their policies and handling of things. They’re their own worst enemy
I have been a HUGE supporter of this game since beta, and I haven’t played a single match in close to a month, but I am still coming to the forums to try to catch a glimpse of what’s to come; however, I’m starting to see no value in that either.
It’s still on the table for the future, but it lives low on the list of priorities so it won’t be making it in anytime soon.
I would love to know what the priority lists consists of. I could be wrong, but I would be willing to bet that the priority lists the devs have is inconsistent with what the players want. (this is just a guess based on 95% of all patches ever released)

Enable: Dev Program Response (1.1v)
Dear (GetPostName(A1)) thanks for your post!
We are currently working hard and can’t post often; however, (GetRandom(P1:P5))
P1: we’d love to talk about it, but we can’t say too much right now
P2: Although we can’t go into details, we’ll have much more information coming soon!
P3: we appreciate all of the responses and love the way this post is organized. I’ll show it to the guys in the next meeting!
P4: we are watching this thread closely and also having our own internal discussions about this matter
P5: we feel this thread isn’t constructive and we’re closing it now. (closethread!())

The real problem is what DIDN’T happen to this game. We were soooo close…
Anet bought the best spot on the strip for a restaurant, hired the best chefs, sent out fliers and bought TV adds announcing the grand opening… Then, when it came time to order the food to cook, because they didn’t want to spend the extra money (or maybe didn’t have time for it to arrive) , they bought hot pockets and pizza rolls.
The people showed up in droves to enjoy a night of fine dining and instead were served hot pockets. People loved the atmosphere, the staff were fantastic, so they were willing to come back with a promise of, ’We’ve got some fantastic ingredients on order, we can’t tell you what they are, but we promise it’ll be the best food you’ve ever tasted". The people kept showing up, eating the hot pockets week-after-week. Eventually, the ingredients that were promised arrived, and nobody liked them because they apparently had been sitting out in the sun for months and became spoiled, but Anet didn’t thoroughly inspect them before serving it. Anet realized their mistake, and told everyone MORE INGREDIENTS ARE ON THE WAY AND IT’s EVEN BETTER THAN PREVIOUS INGREDIENTS, WE JUST CAN’T TELL YOU WHAT!. Well, we’re still waiting for them to arrive, but we’ve become ill…
We all now have high cholesterol and food poisoning.
Moral of the story? The PvP population didn’t leave the game, we all died of food poisoning and heart attacks from high cholesterol.
(edited by felivear.1536)
I missed the whole Ready Up. Someone give me the quick and dirty.
When the game first released or soon after that, as a method to increase development…yes.
Now? Not a chance.
Is there any update as to what is currently on the horizon for PvP? Can we get a look at balance, can you hint at what’s coming?

Thanks man, this guide inspired me to roll a warrior.
This is now my favorite post on the forums. Thank you.
I’ll bite:
I’m not one of those people that were screaming for warrior buffs, I was one of the ones saying to lower the effectiveness of other classes. So, your blind rage is…interesting.
Also, warriors went from not being able to take any type of damage during a teamfight to being able to absorb all types of damage, with little to no effort.
I have to ask you a question:
Are you happy with the state of warriors? If no, what do you suggest, if yes, enjoy your warrior, because your hyperdefensiveness is probably due to you magically getting “good” at the game once warriors became Gods.
(edited by Moderator)
I am still baffled by some of the balancing. They understood warriors were Gods, and everyone in the community realized it was mainly do to their healing signet and immunity buffs (some passive on proc).
So, their way of “fixing” it…. shave hammer damage. Warriors are 99% as strong as they were previously.
Fighting a warrior on a point where his longbow covers the entire point, he’s immune to most of your damage during the fight and the whole time he’s out-healing (passively) a lot of your damage…it’s not fun fighting it, and it’s not fun playing it – I know, I played a warrior up to 14th on the leaderboard then was so bored, I quit and started playing classes I liked, not ones that guaranteed me victory over almost every other class/build.
Fix warrior please. Don’t just shave healing signet, neuter it. Also, give someone full control over PvP balance, separate the 2 games-modes and get it over with.
(edited by felivear.1536)
I played mostly warrior since the solo Q came out. I ran a hammer/mace/shield shout spec. I was 16th on the leaderboard and only dropped out of the top 50 if I decayed. I then decided, just like you, that mesmer was way more fun (albeit weaker). Since then, I’ve dropped to the 200s without decay.
I am now taking the opposite approach as you. I had my fun in the sun riding the leaderboard wave with my faceroll warrior. Now, I’m happier at a lower MMR because the class is challenging and active.
I’d be careful even looking like you are macroing because you don’t want anet to think you are exploiting. Anet has a reputation for quickly and thoroughly dealing with PvP exploiters.
Hello! I’m, Felivear, and I’m a PvPer. I have played SPvP since beta and recently, with some of the changes that they made to glory, I’ve been allowed to get a couple of 80s. I’ve geared them and now have taken the fight to WvW!
I love open world PvP and I am enjoying roaming around and having small skirmished; but, today I ran into something that bothered me.
I run a mesmer, and part of my damage is from conditions. I fought a healing signet warrior (which already makes me want to cuss. highest HPS in the game on a sit-and-forget skill…great balance), but then I noticed that my conditions were far less effective as well. I then see a buff that gave him -40% condi duration….from food. I was blown away that food would provide such a huge buff, so I took to the TP to see if I could acquire such a must-have buff. They are 24s…a piece.
So, one thing that I really loved about the “Manifesto” is their intent on a level playing field, but how is this a level playing field? I don’t have 24s to spend every 30 minutes on a bowl of soup.
2 questions:
1 – are there more food buffs out there that provide huge advantages? What else am I missing out on that puts me at a disadvantage by not knowing about in the buff department
2 – what does everyone else think about this? I’m sure since it’s a part of WvW it’s the norm, but to me, it’s disturbing.
Thanks
So, I decided to run some solo q today. I played 7 matches. 4 of them were skyhammer, 3 were forest.
Is it OK with you all that so many players change to specific classes at the start of the match? That should be the first sign that something is wrong.
Next, you do realize that a large majority of the playerbase hates the map, right? So, what’s the reason for leaving it in? There can only be 2 reasons:
1- You can’t seem to figure out how to remove it from the rotation (I would have though this was a possibility at one time, but I think Justin could figure this out)
2- You don’t care what the playerbase wants, because you want it in.
Either of those 2 reasons are terrible.
Remove this map. I’m not going to take too many more of these in SoloQ.
I’m actually excited by this news. I’m genuinely sorry that it happened to you but it’s good to see it is working as intended. I bet many of the habitual AFKers that would queue and then go watch Dane Cook’s comedy special are now getting correctly punished by the system.
The only thing I want for Christmas is profession based MMR and leaderboards. I’m not as good on my guardian as I am on my thief, but I still want to play solo queue without ruining my leaderboard rank and MMR or hurting my team.
(edited by felivear.1536)
thanks a bunch. gotta go to ihop now for work
I genuinely laughed at this.
Hello,
So over the last few weeks I’ve noticed that abilities seem to often not go off. For instance, I’ll use pistol 5 on thief, then try to heartseeker through it, and many times, the heartseeker just doesn’t go off.
Likewise, I’ll play my mesmer, I cast my number 2 Greatsword, then follow it up with Number 4 phantasm, I’ll look down, only to see that the move never went off at all, even with 2 presses.
I can’t pinpoint anything specific, but I’m curious if anyone else has noticed this happening lately? It’s gamebreaking to me and it’s caused me to play very little over the last couple weeks.
Thanks,
(edited by felivear.1536)
A person’s attitude is not something that the DEVs have control of; however, the DEVs do have an obligation to encourage or discourage certain types of behavior.
When this patch came out, I was pretty certain that we would have a major influx of AFK. The reason is simple: prior to this patch, if you AFK during a match, you only skrewed yourself because you were not gaining anything. Now, since this patch, you have a monetary benefit to queuing and leaving.
If you queue and leave, your team is at a great disadvantage and will probably lose fast. The faster they lose, the more you benefit because YOU GAIN SILVER FOR LOSING. Now, if they would have put in a small silver benefit (minuscule in comparison to winning) then that would discourage it, but they put it at 70%. So, let’s assume that by you botting or going afk, you cause your team to lose 30% faster, guess what, you now gain the same amount of silver per match that someone does for winning.
mind=blown
Moral of the story: expect a LOT of AFKs/botters until this gets changed.
Downed state is great. It separates the great from the good. It also highly encourages team work.
The only thing I hate about downed state is rallying. If you attacked a player and did 1 damage to him and he dies 50 yards away, you get an instant rez. Dem don’t makes no senses.
I wish they would add an option for when you solo q, you could choose to ban certain things (stating I’ll wait longer as long as you don’t queue me with X).
Then, Anet could see what is being banned the most and then make adjustments there first.
Instead, currently we all scream out in unison “No more passives. No more AI” and the first time they add new skills via heals, they contain both.
I believe I am standing on the outside of an inside joke.
I’m at work. Somebody get me a youtube video. Can’t watch twitch at work.
So, I believe my disconnect from the rest of Tyria has caused me to misunderstand what a lot of gold is. When I crafted my thief to 80 and then bought him all of his exotics, it was around 25 gold for it all. That was a ton to me. I remember thinking, “Man, I bet there are people with 300+ gold in this game.”
I just watched a stream with a guy in WvW that had 16k gold. Is this how far I am behind from playing on SPVP since head start?
/signed
I 100% agree. There is no way I can spend 192 glory boosters before they go away and I don’t want to waste them
Please do this!
