Re exploits, I am sure a small small small number on each side use it, but for the most part most people don’t.
I even avoid arrowcarts because of leg specialist :P
some nice skirmishes last night, sandwhiches (on both receiving and giving sides).
And OI Attic, Im still playing warrior, despite most people leaving!
I suppose, I only use it for badges or for sieges where hammer /sword warhorn dont work too well. and LB is weak against anything that gets close
“new” LB heh, been around for a while if only for badge farming.
HB only really gets new players to the game… most people have worked out how to avoid it
Yeah CC doesn’t work well with good guilds with stability buffs / etc.
If you want to bunker/support, consider guardian.
Your heals are subpar, you have no protection, and your retaliation has to be specced into and is meh. Probably better throwing down banners or FHJ/boons/cleansing (warhorn?)
Just my opinion though.
can always switch in bolas if you really want someone not to move out of your field
Last night in IOJ we held one of the keeps for 15-20 mins with side wall down, 15 of us against 50~, it was massive amounts of fun, well played on both sides and when you took the castle, it was earned
Also had a few skrimishes with OINK, had a good little fight against a mesmer but then a thief had to come and i was the meat in the sandwhich so to speak.
Pretty sure all servers field good players at some point
Probably better for hammer builds as you can trait extra dmg to stunned foes
If i am on my downranked alt I join the zerg, safety in numbers
On my 80 I prefer to avoid the mass zergs and do more smaller engagements where my PC doesnt drop down to 5 frames :P
<— DH and in [SE], mostly just play www for fun on my main or alts.
All servers have good players, ugly players, and bad players. I will say (IMO) we have good commanders and we talk across maps and call for help if needed.
Downside is EB is queued during peak times
Could you use knights gear in the interim? (im still using them!)
Wonder how this would go with Lyssa runes instead. I will try this out, but currently stuck on longbow for badge farms.
^^ if you streamroll on warrior, you will reign supreme on a better class
go for which one looks the best, its for fashion
The aoe healing was nerfed after this build to only hit so many targets, no more entire group healing. Warrior healing is arguably not so good but it is probably still a fun build.
It all depends on what you want to do, do you want to be tanky (roll guardian, kidding!), healing/support, dps, etc.
Ive found, and its only me and im not the greatest player, is because our class is subpar in pvp/www etc we can’t go down the middle for a spec, we need to go all out dmg or all out defense or all out support, have to commit 110% :P
Probably wait for the more experience people to post before you follow my advice
but personally I have found builds people say are unviable “work” for me, and awesome builds not so much, but my playstyle is defensive.
I used the last 10 for stronger bowstrings.
I like it, still running sword/warhorn.
Ill keep it until I get enough badges for invader gear, then hammertime!
(I run lyssa runes in knights gear, and I swap out some of your utils for bolas (for when they break out of pin down) and stomp sometimes for obvious www reasons
)
I think I have an armor set with pirate runes on it! will have to check
If anything bow is great just for badge farming for invader/or whatever gear.
Thanks I will try your build out tonight.
Attached is my current build, feel free to laugh at it. I run longbow/sword+warhorn with quick breathing/boon conversion and movement breaking/leg specialist… its fairly mobile and i can get away from most bad situations… but I bet lacks the damage you bring.
Why no stronger bowstrings? Is there something I am missing?
im running draconic valkrie atm with soldier runes i want to replace, will probably go lyssa for these.
I am slowly getting the invader P/V/T gear, for those I was thinking dolyak (is the regen any good?) or divinity?
Dolyak runes aren’t good, the regen is like 55 health/tick? So really not worth it. Divinity ain’t worth it on a warrior either.
Really, lyssa are very good. Soldiers too, but I am guessing you aren’t into that playstyle.
Runes of the pack are decent too. The might/fury/ms procs quite often and stays 7s? with some boon duration.
Thanks for that, I will put lyssa on my dps (power/prec/toughness) set and soldier on my P/V/T gear for the tankier builds
TheGuy, got a build to share?

There is one awesome fact about playing a warrior, when you beat an “OP” class because they are used to having it too easy.
My main gripe with warrior is there is no viable build, and you have to go certain specs/styles to be sub optimal to other classes that have the SAME functionality untraited, untalented etc. Other classes have awesome synergy between talents… ours just seem like a mishmash and not thought out well at all.
GW2 was sold on me as it was “bring the player not the class”, but that’s not really true at the moment.
I don’t want to be OP, just competitive. I don’t want a class to see me and think its a free kill, i’d like a challenge.
From my play style (WWW only pretty much), I have only ever used swords for the leap and maybe the immobilize on F1 skill. Shield is ok but it gives no more defense than a good roll (the stun is good to set up a burst though). But a shield doesn’t magically make you survive longer really.. not in the big scheme of things.
I prefer sword+warhorn, and I put hydromancy rune on warhorn with quick breathing.. perma speed almost and a crappy(ish) condition to boon conversion.
In the end though, play a build that suits you… better to play a subpar build you’re comfortable with than an awesome build you cant pull off.
Can also see skins at http://dulfy.net/category/gw2/
I run with cultural tier2 human heavy cause im too poor for t3 :P
Invader gear is also not bad looking.
Im dumb, i thought you were saying warriors roll guardians with healing :P yeah fully agree, ive rolled a guardian because I prefer to support rather than be locked into the few left over specs that are below average.
Daecollo got a link to that, because in my experience with cleric gear and shout healing yeah its ok, but no protection/retaliation etc (unless you go spiked which i’ve found to be meh).
Thanks Venereus, I liked the build 1 on 1 but I didn’t feel helpful to people around me and in zerg i just got pounced on too much. I also felt slow running around places
So I decided to go back to a more mobile build, and I saw defektives longbow build but I decided to try my own because those seemed geared to GS and didn’t have the range for wvw (I dont do spvp)
I went for a sword+warhorn and longow build
Traits here:
Please feel free to suggest better or point out the dumb things
Yeah I have not given hammer a fair enough go, il be doing it tonight
I like sword/shield/retal build (crap i know) and healing shout builds (I have cleric amulets) so worst case I support, but I find it hard as a warrior to get tokens (unless you go bow i suppose)
I hate to say it but i might be more suited to guardian/bunker builds :>
Are there quick ways of changing skills and traits? im too lazy to press H and navigate each time
Thanks for the responses, its awesome for people like me who glance at forums but dont really know what builds at the external sites are “current”.
I came up with a Mace/Mace build based on “Distracting Strikes” with 100% Condition Duration (can’t be done in sPvP, only WvW). Lots of CC lockdown with 8s Immobilize from Bolas and all the interrupts provided by Mace/Mace, each applying 3 stacks of Confusion for 10 seconds. It’s awesome in 1v1 since half the time the enemy is CC’d and the other half they’re getting punished for attacking. On top of that most people get real life confusion from facing such an obscure build.
Id be very interested for more breakdown, this sounds like a fun build
Will look, as I said on another post im currently tanky built with spiked defense, running sword/shield and axe/mace and its tanky but by no means bursty. Will give it a go, only downside is my Hammer is of the briny deep
needs a skin change
Curious what builds are people running post patch? I was never a 100b player but wondering what people are running (those who haven’t swapped to alts).
Kaga, Im currently running a spiked defense/ sword/shield axe/mace build, got any advice on what currently works?
Just wanted to say thanks to JonathanSharp for posting here and to remember we have passionate people playing the class, so they can get heated but I am sure the appreciate the fact you’re engaged in discussions.
I took a break from the game because of the warrior issues, I came back to try out the patch and unsure how to go (alts etc), but Warriors have gotten the short end of the stick for a long time without response people are a bit too negative.
Look forward to the upcoming changes, and hope they are good!
I like sword/shield and axe/mace
Ive seen a mesmer do it :P
Im enjoying one of Defektives builds
http://forums.coalitiongaming.org/games/defektives-build-thread/
Scroll down to axe/mace | sword shield.
I am still using soldier runes and have endure pain as well, its a fun build.
Im using defektives axe/mace | sword/shield build and its kind of fun.
(except i changed utility around to suit me and kept soldier runes)
To all the thieves there, how do you against warriors like me (sword/shield | axe/axe) with retaliate and shield block on your opener? Most times ive been jumped they have run off I’m wondering what would happen if they stayed on me more. (Disclaimer, im by no means the best player, I get by)
In wvw if you are in a group of good players you could pretty much auto attack and win
I do hate warriors downed state.
If thieves worry you just grab a shield and as soon as they jump you block, and ive had retal go off and hurt the thief more than they have hurt me.
100b is gimp, it is so easily avoidable. Not only but GS itself is very predictable. HB is only useful on downed people (GS though is cool for mobility). I think my 5yo niece could avoid it by mashing the keyboard (not sure how else to say it, if you get hit by 100b regularly you should probably change over to another game)
Killshot is good, but to get high dmg you need to go glass cannon, and its fairly avoidable (endure/frency, volley/killshot is fun though).
Warrior is a fun class to play, i dont think we are the worst class don’t think we are near the best. But I always find it fun.
I think if they fixed the bugginess of our skills it might help
Need to be more specific
what kind of role? support/ranged/tank/etc
I was using GS/rifle zerker build its fun, just trying axe/axe | sword/shield atm.
To be honest most specs are fun, just have to choose one for your playstyle
Not sure but it looks ok.
I tried the build from runeblade (had to buy 2 axes and a shield). I kept my knights gear with my ruby accessories (I did not swap out my solider runes just yet though).
Its a fun build 1v1 or 2v2, I did not notice ret going off too much (its a very quick buff). Its not as mobile as GS/Rifle, but I dont feel as squishy and was able to get away from the zerg with just leap/signet and shield blocks.
My biggest issue is my kitten Im so used to not having to stick on people, so I had problems with people running away (sword #3 barely hits for me, and I did forget about axe #3 as well). I also found it hard in small groups to use axe #5 so saved that for bigger groups.
As a warrior i find it hard to get badges for invader gear with melee specs (I might have to try longbow build next!)
PS: I think I have every weapon type possible.
PPS: I would have stayed warrior support/shout heal sword/warhorn in offset clerics if I could actually get badges in this build :P
PPPS: Death from above into a axe whirlwind is fun
