I can play 2 hours a day.
I work full time plus on call stuff. I have children. A spouse. I go to school 3 days a week.
Do I play everyday? Nope, I play when I can usually 2 days during the week I am not in school for a couple hours. I play more on the weekend after the chores are done… My spouse also plays and has commitments to boy scouts with my son.
It’s all time management…. If you have less time to play then maybe the mmo genre is not for you.
If anyone thinks is was a decision made over people claiming they were bored or needed more to do is utterly naive.
This dungeon and these decisions have been on thier roadmap for quite some time
The incessant whining is hilarious.
The people that think they are entitled to anything and everything are the biggest whiners.
The fact that they are adding more carrots is just a great thing. The increase is small on the item they showed… They haven’t even showed any armor yet.
If the armor they show eventually is 8% better on the base stats but lacks a rune slot…what would the whiners say then?
Makes me wonder if the 6 gods are somehow tied to the dragons….
like if the dragons are awake.. the gods are gone… and if the gods are active the dragons are asleep….
+1 for the guardians. Really annoying, you’re about to kill him, he casts a skill, he got all his life back. You burst it again, he does the same thing…
And when I escape a group of ennemies, they just hit me again and again and kill me (ranger) and I only have a poor skill to heal 1/3 of my life. But when a guardian tries to escape, he just heals & run and that’s endless.
Yet if you go into the Thief class area… Guardians cry rivers of tears that Thief can kill them so fast they can’t react.
I just want them to fix the crash issue with the authenticators
24 hour wait after you delete a toon before the name becomes available
Thieves in general are limited in siege situations in WvWvW… Cluster is the only true long range ability
I like Skirmisher builds for WvWvW
They are builds designed around Shadow Stepping in .. hitting someone and then getting out…Backstab build with shadowstep… or S/P build using #2 for shadow step
I see a couple problems with it.
1 he is using 20% reduction on Deception.. but only has 1 deception skill.
He has 45% duration from rune… which for SB is not correct. SB has 4 sec bleed which is effective in 25% increments… he either need to add 5% or take away 20%.
I do like his Devourer Venom + Sigil of Superior Geomancy… he said the 2 will immobilized lots of targets… but yet the poison is a 45 sec CD … would have to test it overall
Are you talking Bleed duration or Poison duration?
If you are using 2 rune sets to get +15% duration from both.. 20% from traits and 10% from Sigil then yes it would be 60%
But you mention poison in your title.. so if one of the runes effect poison.. your bleed would only be at 45%
Romeo and Adaneshade build and tactics are much better then the OP’s
To the OP:
Your build is very self-defeating.
1st You say condition damage yet you take all these stealth skills and yet use D/D…What are you spending Int on … stealth or DB for bleeds? and you only have 12 int… so you can’t do it all.
2nd you have only +25% duration… which is fine for SB but for dagger you have to build in increments of 10% due to Ticks only happening at whole secs.
I could maybe see it working if you were P/D using Sneak Attack to apply bleeds and then restealthing….and 25% condition damage makes P/D’s bleeds 5 sec instead of 4 sec
Stomping is sped up through quickness….
Stomping is not sped up through the haste skill itself…ie there is no part of Haste that says it speeds stomping
Therefore Haste does not directly affect stomping
Haste = Quickness
So other class can use their quickness to stomp people also… why single out the Thief’s Haste skill…. sheesh
Also my question why are people saying don’t stack condition damage over duration…. The only time Duration and con Damage are competing with one and another is when traiting…
300 Con damage vs 30% Duration
10s Bleed: 575 (Damage) vs 552.5 (Duration)
4s Bleed: 230 (Damage) vs 212.5 (Duration)
Bottom Line if you are going to run a condition build:
1. Stack Condition damage on your gear
2. Rune/Sigil for Duration
3. Trait depending on your goal known that the difference between 30 DA and 30 Trick is minor
All the above just applies to bleeds…
Poison on the other hand has a better ratio from Con Damage (0.1 vs 0.05) and only stacks in duration
(edited by fractal.7039)
I agree with Stiv, generally bleed duration > condition damage. You’ll never get enough +condition damage to make up for what you gained in one more bleed tick (there could be a whole separate discussion on how to optimally gear and spec).
One thing I wanted to add related to Emerge’s question on Exposed Weakness.
A while ago I traited Exposed Weakness (10% damage when conditions are applied) but was looking into switching to Quick Recovery (2 init/10 secs). I saw that Slic wasn’t using QR in his Wild Bill video’s, I was surprised how well I did without it, but you have to play very clean, QR gives you room to recover from mistakes and overextends.
I did some testing in the Mists and observed no change in tick damage with EW, so it appears that it does not apply to condition damage. Because of that, I switched to QR.
It seems wrong for EW to not apply to conditions, maybe others here have seen different results?
On a 10 sec bleed every 10% of Condition duration is equivalent to 85 points of Condition Damage….
X= Con Damage * 0.05
42.5 * 11 = (42.5 + X) *10
467.5 = 425 × 10X
42.5 = 10x
4.25 = Con Damage * 0.05
85 = Con Damage
For a 4 sec Bleed it is still 85 Condition Damage but it is 25% Duration because damage only ticks on whole seconds rounded down.
85 Con Damage = 10% duration for Daggers
85 Con Damage = 25% duration for Pistols/Shortbow
So explain to me how condition damage can not equal or exceed duration?
Bleed Duration is not better or worse then condition damage. Let look at the math behind it. Using One Stack of 10 sec bleed ( from Death Blossom)
1 Stack 0 Con Dam 0 Duration
42.5 X 10 Sec = 425 damage
1 Stack 56 Con Damage 40% Duration (Basically from 2 rune sets)
45.3 × 14 sec = 643.2 damage
1 Stack 923 Con Damage 0 Duration ( From Carrior Amulet + Carrior Jewel)
88.65 X 10 sec = 886.5 damage
1 Stack 979 Con Damage 40% Duration ( Carrion + Runes)
91.3 × 14 sec = 1278.2 damage
As you can see both have their advantages. The above is without traiting into Bleed or condition damage…
But also remember duration rounds down… so when you calculate the increase remember if you can’t get to the next whole number… then don’t stack it
for Example Pistol bleed is 4s … The Runes are 15% 15% and 10%…
Stacking the 15%+15% is a 30% increase but on 4 sec that is 1.2 sec increase or 1 sec
Stacking 15% + 15% + 10% is 40% increase but on 4 sec that is 1.6 increase or still 1 sec
Stacking 15% + 10% is 25% increase but on 4 sec that is 1 sec…
So using Pistols/Shortbow… with 4 sec bleeds stack in increments of 25%
Using Dagger death blossom … stack in increments of 10%
Why do people bring PVP… The OP was talking about PVE
Would I use my 15/15/10/15/15 build in PVP…. No of course not.. but in PVE and Dungeons when you need to change on the fly… Yes
My build is very customized to my play style
15/15/10/15/15
The point of my build is to give me access to what i want to do.. when I want to do it.
15 in DA give me weakness on poison… with dagger mainhand.. that is every 3rd attack in addition to increasing poison by 33%
15 in CS gives me 20% chance per dagger swing for 1 int gain.. the dagger chain is fast.
10 in SA give me 2 int back on every stealth … which I do a lot of
15 in Acro give me cheaper dodges plus might and swiftness
15 in Trick gives me Stealing give 3 int back, and give my group Fury,Might, and Swiftness
My attack rotation is simple…
CnD, Backstab, Auto till Stealth debuff gone, CnD, Backstab…Heartseeker when mob is low…. Deathblossom for AE… Steal when needed int
Utilities: I rotate a long depending on the situation but mainly use
Shadow Refuge, Smoke Screen, SoS
Daggerstorm or Thieves Guild
If someone else (Guard or Necro ) is doing condition removal I can run with the Heal Signet.. otherwise it is Hide in Shadows 90% of the time.
Thieves bring:
Permanent Weakness – One of the stronger conditions in the game
Group Stealth – Life saver for getting fallen party members up
Permanent Vunerability – Better then might
Daze – Best on demand Daze in the game
High Burst damage – I can Backstab every 3 sec … non stop (in the right build)
The Best smoke and dark fields for combos
Some of the best cripples and bleeds in the game
yea we don’t buff our group a lot… but we can debuff the enemy quite a bit.
Forgot Perma-Blindness too
I saw that guild but they want to coalesce on one server… I am talking about a guild that sole purpose is to be an information point across all servers.
Not just a guild for dominating a specific servers wvwvw
Anyone think a thieves guild that is there for communicating only with other thieves for information and resources would work?
Basically an in-game network that would allow thieves from all servers to talk and ask questions when needed?
World PVP is nothing but ganking and griefing. If you want world like PVP go to WvWvW….
Oh… and don’t say “playerbase” … you are not speaking for me or 95% of the other players.

I solo melee champs on my Thief… Dancing Dagger/ Caltrops kiting as stated before…
If i have a difficult spot… Thieves guild + Thief Trap + Caltrops…. that is a ton of dps…
Every class has one elite ability that is over the top….
Hell Mesmer has 2….
Can we please get this? I hate that minipets take up actual inventory spots..
I tend to use Vitality more, but I run with Lotus poison… 50% of hits do 50% damage. Dagger main hand means perma-weakness from Lotus Poison.
A bit of toughness does help though….
What is the percent chance to add weakness debuff when using a mace?

The best class for weakness rebuffs imho is thief…. Trait for thief that applies weakness for 3 sec when enemy is poisoned. Main hand dagger attack chain is like 2 seconds…. So the weakness keeps stacking and stacking….
As for warrior mace main is best option, although opening with hammer 2 and then going mace is also good since the mace chain can be slow…
I like female Norns. I also make them the smallest you can…. They are basically slightly bigger humans then… It works out well.
The underwater dungeon that unlocks in 15-25 Charr area…. It is so awesome… My thief tanked the dungeon since the thief spear skills are very tanky. The last champion was taken down by three people using the sword you get in the dungeon… Was truly epic
I like to do this also, but then my wife logs on and I can’t go invis from her…. She reaches over and smacks me
I had no problems on my ranger….quest was easy
Couple notes about the build…. The current spec with 20 in acrobatics is a recent test…
The other build was 20 into Shadow Arts for Hidden Thief and Infusion of Shadow…
I am testing to see if the increase in INT regen is more damage over an extended fight…
As for gear… I got for a balance of Prec, Tough, Vit and Power…
Test auto attacks with no trait points equipped non-crit:
Light target 350-375 ish Heavy Target 250-275 ish
Test auto attacks with trait points as above non crit:
Light targets 450 – 471 Heavy Targets 350-375 ish
Which is about 35% increase over all which is near correct for the build….
Not to mention: 19000 HP and 2549 Armor
Can it out damage glass cannons… nope… but it is a great balance for a build to let you do what you need to do safely…

Sounds like you want to push one button to win….
Thief requires commitment to weapon swap and know when to burst and when to setup…
I take 3-4 targets down with ease… single target die so fast i can’t even complete rotations….
all that and I am not even spec’ed glass cannon…
The secret of P/D is to pair it with D/P….
It gives you 2 ways to evade attacks… one when your in melee and need to get out… one when at range and need to get close.
Body Shot > CnD > Weapon Swap > Backstab… is one attack chain…
Caltrops > CnD > Sneak Attack… is 18 bleeds easy…
Blinding Powder > HeartSeeker > Backstab is another…
I do the following in my P/D and D/P build:
Start in P/D >Body Shot>Steal>CnD>Weapon Swap>Backstab ( It hits for 38% extra damage guareenteed 100% crit on weapon swap) + (8% more from Vunerability from Body and CnD)
Now in D/P >Black Powder>HeartSeeker>Backstab ( it hits for 31% extra damage since int is down to about 6)
In addition you bring great AE with Caltops > Dancing Dagger
An interrupt with Head Shot…
You have to juggle weapons and know when to go in and when to go out … but it is godly when you master the 2 sets together….
Note: The extra damage listed in my rotation above is from my build. If you want it let me know…
The definition of stupid is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Actually that is the definition of insanity… But we get your point
@Wolfe
Body Shot and CnD both cause stacking vulnerability, which causes you BS to hit harder.
Bleed is awesome when you need to kite or stay ranged. Caltrops + stealth pistol shot + auto attack = 15+ bleed stacks
P/D and D/P is about controlling your positioning and keeping the enemy guessing…
I disagree…
P/D and D/P are my 2 weapon sets….which is built around stealth and mobility.
Dancing Dagger is actually really good AOE, throw in Caltrops… targets melt.
My normal tactic is to Body Shot, followed by CnD, weapon swap to Backstab… Headshot to stop their heals, if needed. I can then restealth by Black Powder
+ HeartSeeker, when int allows.
I use the duals for movement… if I am in close and see a big shot coming…Shadow Strike…. if I am out shooting… Shadow Shot…
These two weapon sets allow me to adapt to pretty much any situation…which is key for my playstyle
I want to see a Bard class…
I know the mesmer has abilities underwater that have music notes… but it would be cool to have an actual bard class…. I mean we already have focus that are instruments!
I want more main hand options… Axe and sword just don’t cut it….
I would like Mace or Dagger… although as someone said Torch would be a cool main hand if it could be made that way.
Hammer would be cool to to give people 2 options for melee 2-handed
I know about the chat bubbles and those do help… but they are still a legacy way of dealing with talking to people
My question is what could be the next evolution of interface to deal with real time socialization between people…
Maybe a physic engine for speech where you can talk normally to the area around and the further out from your spot the less likely you hear… This would create very busy noisy areas but they would be more realisitic….
RP’ers would hate it though…
Maybe nothing can be changed until the technologies advance to the point that “chat windows” just become archaic and have to be phased out.
After playing GW2 since Beta 1… I always thought the chat interface was just behind the times.
They achieved their goals of making you look away from the interface.. I rarely have to look at my skill bars, I only glance at my HP if I know I screwed up and took some damage…
The problem is I rarely have time to look at my Chat interface…. I miss conversations completely sometimes…
I have tried several times to think of ways to innovate the chat portion of the interface.. but can’t come up with a solid idea…
Voice Chat…. works well in group and guilds but not for people around you.
Any ideas?
