They were at 2.75 recently anyway.

Yeah, that was the speculation that this was the patch they have foretold to increase the core/lodestone supply.

Even coins show in the bottom right, so I would expect BoH does too. However it may have a much lower priority now so other things make cause it to disappear almost instantly.

I always knew core/lodestone prices would come down as a result of this patch. They made it pretty obvious over the last couple weeks that the new champion bags were designed as a solution to the ridiculous prices on them.

However the market doesn’t know how much supply will be added, so it can’t adjust ahead of time so if you have/find them right now its better to sell and watch where the market goes.

condition stacking

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: gaspara.4079

gaspara.4079

As I am also a software engineer hear out this possibility. To prevent user lag, all conditions are managed on the server but reporting continuously to the client every detail regarding the conditions of the object the user has targeted. Therefore for each condition stack on the targeted mob you are sending back to the client a full detailed object for every single server tick.

While this seems like a wonderfully accurate system it requires sending multiple extra objects of data to to the user every millisecond which if left uncapped could add up to ridiculous amounts.

Imagine if you got to 500 bleed stacks on a boss, depending on the size of the condition objects they use and how they are serialized we could be talking a ton of bandwidth use purely for those conditions.

Now if this is expanded to sending complete details for every entity in the viewable area that could get astronomical.

Firstly, I never asked for removal of the cap. I merely asked for an extension.

Secondly, not every tick of the DoT is sent from the server to the client and even if it were the case, then by their very reasoning epidemic wouldn’t even be a viable ability as it too would have to be restricted to the required 25 stacks.

Fill a single instance full of necromancers with multiple high hp mobs (let’s say >= 4) with 25 stacks each. Since this, by their own reasoning, should theoretically require more bandwidth than the server currently possesses they had better remove epidemic from the game.

There are so many counterexamples you can find to their ridiculous claim that it’s a bandwidth issue that it boggles the mind.

I never mentioned anything about changing/removing the cap I was putting in a possibility that it could in fact be bandwidth related like ArenaNet told us it was.

Also can you really get higher than 25 stacks on a mob using epidemic? If so, then that was poor planning. If not then it is subject to the restriction and working as everything else, so I don;t understand your point.

They never said it was a problem of the server bandwidth maxing out. I believe they said it was an issue with causing major lag and rubber-banding for low bandwidth users, which could also effect details returned to the server.

I feel as though I keep getting stuck...

Mesmers don’t really start coming into their power until 60+, so early levels can definitely be a challenge.

One thing I can suggest trying is building around using the staff’s decent damage and clone/boon/condition creation and bouncing at close range along with mirror images and decoy to constantly have 3 clones attacking the enemies so that you aren’t getting hit as much.

Some traits that go well with this include Dibilitating Dissipation (Chaos 5), Chaotic Dampening(Chaos 10), Crippling Dissipation (Domination 5), Deceptive Evasion (Dueling 10), Illusionairy Elasticity ( Illusions 10).

Also focus on power, toughness, and vitality on your gear.

A clone army build can make you very survivable in the open world and is even one of the best champion soloing builds in the game. Though it doesn’t kill overly fast and isn’t superb in events as it takes time to build up clones to do damage.

condition stacking

Okay, as a software engineer, I’ll give you my two cents on this. You can take this for what you will, but it is definitely more than ignorant conjecture since this is what I’ve been doing as a career for the last 15 years of my life.

The bandwidth has NOTHING to do with this. The conditions are still being sent to and processed by the server, and the server is sending the output back to the clients. Literally nothing is lost in packet exchange as you can see based on the fact that all the player-applied conditions show on enemies, even if they don’t all apply.

The issue is supposedly the CPUs aren’t strong enough to continuously calculate all the incoming conditions. To this, I call BULL****! My development SQL server, which is over 7 years old and about 10 times slower than my production server, has no problem calculating millions of transactions per second. And if it started slowing down, I’d just add another rack to it. Racks are cheap as dirt, and they could easily triple their performance for the cost of just one of these temp-content dev’s annual salary.

The issue is that they just don’t care enough to do so. They don’t care that their stinginess is undermining one of the most core components of their game and literally makes certain builds/professions completely useless. They care about the bottom dollar. It’s as simple as that.

Which prof. should I play to be an archer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: gaspara.4079

gaspara.4079

Both Thief and Warrior use their bows as their ranged aoe option. They both are very good at killing multiple enemies and filling a more support role, however neither are great as a main weapon. The Ranger has the option to use both the short or longbow or even both at the same time, which definitely has its place as the longbow excels at extreme ranges and the shortbow excels at mixed(pure and condition) dps and mobility at mid to short range. The Ranger’s downside is that pets make up 30% of you overall damage and have a habit of dying in high aoe situations which has a large effect on your potential damage output in those situations.

As far as the traiting archetypes the Ranger definitely has the most traiting options for bow, followed by the warrior and finally the thief.

Some additional notes: Both the thief (cluster bomb range lowered from 1200 to 900) and the Ranger(all shortbow lowered form 1200 to 900) recently had a nerf to their shortbows so many players of those 2 classes & weapon set have done a fair amount of complaining on forums lately. Rangers and thieves also have a reputation among the elitest dungeon crowds of not being good party members for dungeons, but that doesn’t have a great effect on the average dungeon group and likely won’t effect the soon to come dungeon group finder.

Stealth Should be the Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: gaspara.4079

gaspara.4079

If they’re not true, then what is the root of the problem?

The root of the problem is that the thief is designed around engaging in 1v1 fights with the ability to disappear and escape if additional opponents arrive and bad/zerg built people can’t stand the idea that they can’t win 1v1 or kill the thief 3v1.

Thieves are like horseflies to good players (more of an annoyance than an issue) but they are grim reapers to bad players and players running alone that are built specifically to ride the zerg wave. However players that fit the above two groups continue to complain every time a thief beats them in 1v1 or gets away when in 3v1.

stun/immobilize + burst/aoe = thief leaving and likely won;t bother you again.

I want to make a chronomancer...

in Players Helping Players

gaspara.4079

Mesmer playstyle definitely lends itself towards chronomancer. Though really your should pick a class based on its own merits, no class will nicely achieve your desired effect and you will constantly be bothered by its inaccuracies if you attempt it.

Something else to consider is that mesmers where light armor while guardians wear heavy, which has a large effect on appearance.

Final note: The mesmer staff with a build focused around making clones is one of the strongest solo/leveling builds in the game. It can solo a lot of champions that others can’t.

It will still do exactly what it was intended for. Just because your farming method that could make use of it is nerfed doesn’t mean you deserve a refund. It still provides 20% extra gold from mobs which still adds up to 20%…

No, people bought it for the gold from dungeon bosses. All other gold from monsters is completely negligible. It would be like if you bought a karma infusion, but they then changed it to only work for karma thimbles. You would be upset if that happened to you, right?

My point was it will continue to do exactly what it stated it will do, give you 20% extra gold from monsters. Just because the dungeon completion gold, that should have come out of the chests but has been coming out of the boss, is being nerfed doesn’t change that the infusion is still doing its job.

Also you must not be a believer in “A penny saved is a penny earned” because +20% of even a small amount adds up over time, it certainly is not negligible.

That said the selected traits you take define you playstyle, so understanding how each trait selection works is a very important part.

Use a tool such as en.gw2skills.net/editor/ to allow yourself to build out a build full with gear, food/potion, and of course traits and skills to set how much dmagae, health, toughness and crit you have. This will allow you to determine whether certain things are likely to work well together.

If you are a highly survival build such as a thief roamer or invincible guardian the bloodlust pays off big time, if your only a marginally surviving class/build its better to just use force. Sigil of Night is always better then bloodlust or force at night. One way to tell if it is night is using Ascalon Catacombs weapons which glow at night.

And do u have the lettle fuzzy issue?

That issue is caused by the fact that the message is meant to be a log message and is therefore not stylized for being drawn in the gui framework. Really you should have gotten a stylized message stating “The Black Lion Trading Company is not available at this time. Please try again later.” or something to that effect. You may even consider submitting the screen shot and details to them as a bug.

gaspara.4079

Note I am not a flipper and have 35 gold in my bank 0 cultural tier 3 items and 1200 hours played

1) If you know anything about economic markets or could do 20 minutes of research you would know that the flippers in a market have 0 effect on the market value of things unless they are rich enough or the market is small enough that a monopoly can be achieved. The size of the current market makes this impossible, though early in the games life this was somewhat possible due to a few exploits.

2) The flippers do speed up the process for players that want gold now even if it means less. There is a fair amount of casual players who do not or cannot afford to sit and wait for their items to sell.

3) There are in fact people out there that play this game because its market is a pretty decent market simulator game with the best graphics in that genre.

4) This solution suggestion (it should be in the suggestion forum) is absolutely ridiculous and has way more flaws than merits.

I am fine with dueling being allowed in certain instanced arenas on the condition that no one ever complains about the imbalance between two different classes in 1v1 combat. The moment someone does the feature should be permanently removed. I say this because I know the amount of complaints that come up because of said dueling will be uncountable just like every game that has ever offered it.

This game is about teamwork and coordination, which a 1v1 has none of and therefore really has no place in.

There currently is not and likely never will be an option to change race. This stems from the personal story. If you really want a different race, make a new character its not that hard or time consuming to get to level 80.

As a member of Sanctum of Rall,

Honestly any server in the top 10 will be give you good competitive WvW matches.
The top 4 servers while we have some of the best WvW guilds out there are there because we have a lot of players in non typical timeslots. Also they have built enough server chemistry that most of the big guilds have been around a long time (8+ months or since the server was tier 6 in SoR’s case) and have no intention of leaving.

Many people from the top 4 will actually tell you not to come to them because they care more about being able to get into WvW in a timely fashion than they do about getting more players at this point. People who want to be on a top server often fail to realize that in exchange for being a top server weekend US evening hours always have a 1+ hour queue so there is no WvW on demand at those hours.

Moral of the story is look into the community of the servers you are considering and expand you criteria a bit. Look at some of the other top servers not just the top 4 as some may surprise you.

If you choose Sanctum of Rall, we will welcome you with open arms, but most won’t push you to join like a military recruiter because we are happy with what we have. If you choose another of the top 4 we will welcome you with with a swift honorable death on the battlefield. If you heed my advice and end up choosing a lower top 10 server then I hope to meet you on the battlefield in the future.

The only class in the game that fits small group roaming, fits a zerg and highly desired for dungeoning is the Guardian.

The elementalist is great for roaming and zerging but is more complicated than needed in PVE so not highly sought.

Engineer is the same way as the Elem.

Mesmer kinda its all 3, but in Zergs they are mostly used as walking portals, though they can be built to do fine in them despite the reputation.

Necros are pretty good roamers since their recent updates and amazing in zergs but again are not highly sought for dungeons.

Rangers are great roamers and decent zergs (despite popular opinion) but are highly perceived to be the weakest dungeoning class in the game, so have trouble finding groups.

I can’t make the decision for you, that you must do on your own.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: gaspara.4079

gaspara.4079

If you mainly/entirely worried about PVE content, pick the Engineer. They are multiple playstyles/builds that only use 1/2 kits and it really depends on what you go for. The Thief while it can succeed in dungeons and even be a very useful is much harder to play as they are innately squishy and most of their support/utility is greatly ineffective against bosses.

Inflexible Skin System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

gaspara.4079

I envision a streamlining where you have a PVE locker that includes every skin ofeach type that you have ever equipped automatically. However you still need to use the transmutation crystals/stones to put them on your stated gear. This would allow them to continue to profit off transmutations (probably increased even) while not forcing the player to decide between having excess gear for appearance sake or choosing to lose potentially never to return skins they acquired from past living story events.

to clarify…

the bonus chest is once per day, per ACCOUNT (lvl 40 and up)
the regular chest is once per day per character

Should have just been kept the old way. Why complicate the game up with all these extra rules that make no sense here and there?

The old way where if you were lucky you got 1 rare every 5 bosses? Cause that way was aweful and the bosses felt completely unrewarding.

Or do you mean the way where you oculd kill the same boss as many times as you have level 80 characters/day and you got a rare every time that drastically reduced the value of ectos for a time? Cause I was fine then but it was too rewarding to do nothing but kill the bosses which is silly.

So while it is more complex I think it is better this way.

Does GW2 have an installation limit?

in Players Helping Players

gaspara.4079

You can install the game on as many computers as you want. The CD Key with the physical copy is used to unlock the game for your ArenaNet account. Once unlocked, you can even download and install the game from the website without ever needing the discs again.

Having never installed and run Rift on my computer I cannot compare its requirements to GW2. But my guess is if you can run Rift, then you can run GW2.

All in game exclusive stuff/bonuses are handled within the game and stored on the ArenaNet servers. You will log in every time you start the game regardless of computer and you progress will always be saved there. You cannot play without internet.

I don’t know that you can change your ArenaNet id. However no matter what name you pick for it, you will have 4 random numbers at the end because that is how they are doing it. However once in the game when you create a character you will get to name it and that name must be unique to all other characters, so you won’t be using your account name with the numbers very much.

Not that half of you that posted the ridiculous stuff about gambling laws will come back, but every single one of you is so wrong your not even in the right area code.

RNG through computer game cash shops are not gambling because you own nothing. All gems purchases are a service, read the Terms of Use. You are buying the right to have access to something ArenaNet (or other MMO publishers) owns. They are completely within their rights to take away anything on your account “At any time, for any reason, or no reason at all.”

Since your buying a service it can be in no way considering gambling because you are not risking anything that you own. You don’t own gems ever, you are basically donating money to their server upkeep and they are allowing you to use some gems within their game that they are gods over.

People really should learn to read the Terms of Use if they are going to attempt to challenge games. They are super precisely written and have almost always held up in court. (Always in the case of the US) That is why they can permanently ban you from the game at their will. They could shut down all servers tomorrow an walk away with all of your money and likely only a handful of players would get back their recent gem purchase money.

Don’t believe me? Go read their Terms of Use for yourself.

TLDR: Read the ToS. You own nothing in GW2, every gem purchase is a service, and has no value. ArenaNet is the God of GW2 they can do whatever they want.

how about some gameplay addition, beside the living story……

You do know living story is pretty much another name for “content update” or “gameplay addition” right?

Truth be said, this time many of the update notes for the Living Story are just “thing X is still there…”, not really new things being introduced. It looks like we get basically 3 mini games and one story instance.

Theres also the fact that players will vote via in game actions on future development, which is kind of a HUGE thing.

Why do i have to repair in WvW?

in WvW

Posted by: gaspara.4079

gaspara.4079

I don’t think repair fees should be in WvW. Running right back into the fray is exactly what every person should be doing if they want their side to win and doing so should not be punished.

If Anet wants death to matter more they could add a forced respawn after a certain amount of time (30s?) passing without team mates beginning to revive and a (15s?) respawn timer. The former will prevent players corpses from sitting around too long waiting to be resed and the latter would prevent players from immediately returning to a battle that they just died in. Both would give players good incentive to stay alive (frankly the long run back is already enough for me).

Earlier today I was able to solo-cap a camp that was being rigorously defended by an enemy player. I had to kill him/her 3 times to finally take it (and I was very nearly prevented from succeeding). For playing the objective my opponent lost over 4.5 silver in repair fees, which is quite a bit more than they even stood to gain from defeating me. This just doesn’t make sense.

Players should be expected to return to the fight as soon as possible and how the game handles death/respawning should be based around that expectation.

They stood to gain keeping that camp and the supply it provides including any upgrades it had (which a single upgrade would value at above 4.5 silver).

The repair costs are there to prevent people from running in killing 1 person and dying for profit. It is not terribly hard to make a glass cannon build that could do it, but this way that person won;t make money off of it. It gives a price to dying even if you have a teammate there to res you and prevent you from needing to run back.

Edit because Infernia had not posted yet when I started posting.

Actaully WvW has no other gold sinks for players playing it purely for profit with no care for how their server does. All other WvW gold sinks are spent purely to help your server succeed, so to remove the only source of a gold sink for badge/bag farmers would be wrong.

Thieves Ruining WvW

in WvW

Posted by: gaspara.4079

gaspara.4079

The problem here seems to stem from the fact that everyone here thinks they should be able to win a 1v1 against every other class with any class regardless of skill and that is just silly.

Thieves are designed to be gankers, every single thief trait/skill is designed around getting in quickly and secretly, unloading a ton of burst damage and then getting out before anyone else notices you were there. They are not meant to be killed 1 v 1, they are designed to be annoying.

The problem is that under skilled players can’t stand the fact that they are not on a level playing field against another equally skilled player even though that is the classes design. If you want to kill thieves, find some party members or play a thief/mesmer the only classes that can kill an equally skilled opponent on a thief.

Thief was my first character, I played one the first 3-4 months after launch so I know what they were like when they were op. (When I could build up minutes of stealth CnDing your wall and then come one backstab down squishy classes with the signet build) But I have since moved on to play a mix of guardian (zerg), warrior (roamer, i just laugh at thieves and run by them because idc about kills as they serve 0 purpose in WvW) and occasionally whatever class I’m leveling. Thieves rarely bother me and only when two show up do I die, including when played level 25ish characters, most just aren’t that scary because they are predictable and once you mess them up a couple times they realize your not an easy gank and go elsewhere.

TLDR: Don;t expect to kill them 1 v 1 that is their specialty, find friends to roam with or build a move survival build so they don’t bother you and actually do something that helps your server.

Gotta congratulate the Anet team on the stellar design of the class. They will be remembered in the MMO community for years to come as the guys who came up with the most broken stealth class in history.

Oh by the way..it was not what they intended initially. Takes a special dev to kitten up that much.

This exact statement has been said about every single Stealth class in the history of MMOs. People naturally fear what they can’t see, so invisibility is without a doubt the biggest mental crippler in the gaming industry.

Story reasoning behind WvWvW

Now I may have totally misunderstood the events leading me to this analysis but I believe The Mists are an allusion to the norse afterlife. Valhalla & Fólkvangr or more specifically Vígríðr, the battleground where fighting takes place continuously until the Ragnarok.

It does not directly play into any piece of the Guild Wars 2 server and is meant purely as a means to facilitate s/tPvP being outside the real game and WvW being between different servers.

All class are the same starting out, it’s not until your character is level 50th that you notice the difference, then it’s reaching level 80 and then refining/re-defining your character skill sets to match your play style and lastly finding the right gear to maximize your skills.

I disagree with this person. Most classes may look the same starting out, but even from level 10-20 on you can tell how different they are.

Necro, Engineer, Ranger or Ele?

Compared to leveling a mesmer you will likely find leveling warrior overpowered or even boring. Ele will probably provide the closest comparison of challenge to what you have already faced.

Necro and Engineer are in the middle and both have their own benefits. Engies have a lot of fun kits that change their playstyle, but you will not get to spend much time looking at your weapon skins. Necro is one of the most powerful open world soloers in the game while leveling and are also surprisingly good at getting event credit with staff, however they feel even less powerful as a summoner than mesmers do which is depressing to anyone who associates the necro class with gw1 or diablo 2.

By far the best thing I can recommend though is play all 4 to level 20 and see how they feel, then decide.

A quick google search (which actually works better for finding forum posts than the site search function) I came across this which is probably one of the ones you missed.
