I have no problem whatsoever with people requesting to be able to hide their characters, but if ArenaNet asked me to put that on a priority list, I’d put it at the bottom. However, that doesn’t mean it’s not valid. I see no issue with people on both sides of the fence discussing it. Everyone’s opinion is valid.
As for guilds asking you to constantly represent, if I was in a guild and they insisted I always represent them, I’d know right away that’s the wrong guild for me.
Hopefully your password isn’t similar to the one you had before. If it is, change it to something VERY different with close to a dozen mixed characters. Add mobile authentication if you can. And if you’re able to remove access from that IP address in your account settings, do that.
And in the future, don’t click those links.
I don’t know if that link can be accessed without you signing in, but it’s probably not a good idea to post the full link for something like that.
If you are going to post a link to a phishing site, please don’t make it clickable. It’s too easy for people to open those and, for whatever reason, input their correct credentials. Don’t make things easier for the phishers.
Talon Blaze and EternalFlamez, please make those non-clickable links just in case someone opens it and for whatever reason inputs their credentials.
It’s never a good idea to put clickable links in official forms that point to password phishing sites.
I believe that if you view your ticket there’s an option to close it.
Often the broken English is a clue, and this one is no exception, although it has better grammar than most scam emails I get.
2 days isn’t enough of a wait. If there is no response after 3 days, post the ticket number here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Tickets-for-Review-3-days-and-older-merged
but don’t file a second support ticket. Only file one ticket. ArenaNet has said that filing multiple tickets for the same question only slows things down.
People do jumping puzzles ALL the time and don’t get banned. Jumping puzzles were put there so people can use them. Your suspension was most likely for something else. Check your email (including spam folder) for an email explaining why the suspension occurred.
Also, in addition to what Mira said, make sure you get the codes from a reputable and legitimate/authorized seller.
While you can request that your characters remain private, I am wondering how people knowing your characters is going to have a harmful effect on your gameplay? If I add your forum name to my friends list, I can see your characters, but what can I possibly do with that information? Nothing. If I started sending you malicious messages in-game or started stalking you while you played, you could report me and I’d be banned. Problem solved.
I am really trying to understand how knowing the characters associated with a player ID is a detrimental thing.
Sorry, everyone has to pay. Only exception is the rare period where they allow free transfers to specific servers.
I have 23 followers and have no idea who any of them are. I’m curious as to why they’d add me, but it doesn’t matter in the long run. If someone is sending you obnoxious messages or otherwise somehow harassing you in-game, file a support ticket against that person and provide the details. People can’t hunt you down IRL unless you provide enough info for them to do that. Just putting a first name isn’t sufficient, even if it really is your real name.
btw I am female and am paranoid about privacy, but the friends list thing doesn’t bother me.
What do you mean you can’t pick the name? What is the message you get when you try?
If you can’t log in but you want to play the game, put in a support ticket and give them your account user name (but not your account password) and explain the details. You might also want to include your serial number to speed things up as they might ask for it.
If you want a refund, you’ll have to put in a support ticket anyway.
But I suggest taking the first option. It really is a gorgeous and engaging game.
Yep, it’s very possible, especially after an update to either Windows or GW2. My graphics changed a lot (for the better) after the game was updated a few months ago. Then I updated my graphics card separately and the graphics got worse. lol
Even if someone had your password, they (theoretically) wouldn’t be able to access your account if you declined the authorization attempts. But even if they did access your account, there shouldn’t be anything they could do to your account that would cause you to see those graphics problems when you play the game.
Someone else reported blue lines and buildings appearing:
That poster updated their graphics card and it fixed the problem. That could be the solution for you.
Of course the driver you need will depend on the graphics card you have.
Definitely looks like a graphics problem to me. Have you always seen this with GW2? If not, did you install anything or update software related to your OS or your graphics driver when this started happening?
And did you change your password yet?
What kind of graphics card are you using? You might want to check this if you haven’t already to see if your PC can run GW2 without glitches:

Of course you’re not supposed to know when the client is going to crash. If you’re going to make a big purchase, make a note of your current money/inventory/gems and then make the purchase. If the client crashes, check after it restarts. If your purchase was completed and you don’t have the item, just file a ticket. There really is nothing else you can do. Once they check the logs and verify the purchase, they should be able to determine that the item wasn’t received.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World#Transferring
There is a 7-day wait between transfers for everyone. I’ve never heard of them making an exception.
Change your password now (don’t wait) and make sure you use a long, complex password (not something like “gw2password”). Don’t use the same password you use for your email account.
might want to read this: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/tips-for-keeping-your-guild-wars-2-account-secure/
The emails indicate someone has access to your account credentials, which means you need to change your password.
As for the lines, it sounds like a graphics glitch to me. Can you try setting all of your graphics settings on low (or disabled) to see if that resolves the problem?
I think you should get your dad to play your account for a few hours. :p
Ah you are correct. I searched around and it seems it is specific to the merchant. I was going to say that the bill me later thing has has some really negative comments, but I guess you already saw that. Keep in mind most of the ones happy with it probably don’t bother posting reviews.
I thought bill me later was exclusively a Paypal thing, and that it had nothing to do with the merchant you use. I use Paypal often and keep seeing the bill me later thing regardless of which company I am sending money. I don’t see how ArenaNet would have any control over that. I suggest contacting Paypal. It might be a one-time only thing.
On a side note, I suggest saving cash and getting a cheap used car. You don’t have to have credit for a car. Save cash and buy it upfront and avoid monthly payments.
I’m not at all putting you down. I just pointed out that you chose to violate the terms of service that you agreed to when you signed up for an account. If you have a voice server with friends you can say what you want. If you really want to let loose, rent such a server yourself and give the info to friends. By renting the server yourself, you’re the admin and you can’t be banned or muted. If you invite people and they don’t want to hear whatever you’re saying, they can just log off the voice server. Problem solved.
If you want the “right” to say whatever you want, get a mumble/ventrilo/teamspeak server where you can let loose. ArenaNet can’t monitor that. They can, however, monitor the chat, and they have the right to suspend or ban you if you don’t follow the terms of service. This has been pointed out repeatedly.
If you choose to not follow the terms of service, that is clearly your choice. But you will then have to deal with the consequences.
Most players prefer to follow the guidelines so they can continue playing. Others choose alternative routes, apparently.
Had you been suspended or warned before for anything? 135 hours seems steep if the first mark on your account.
Got bumped a second time. I was mapping out of an instance the first time and was in an instance the second time. Not doing any more instances tonight!
same happened to me, just keep trying, I got in eventually
Welcome!! It’s always nice to have more WvW resources. As I’m sure you are busy, I will keep my request list short:
1. Please allow us to disable the really annoying titles below people’s names.
2. Please give me permanent invulnerability in all WvW maps. But just me, nobody else.
Thanks!
They’ve apparently said somewhere (can’t remember where I read it) that they are not currently considering offering a first-person view. The “reason,” and I use that term lightly because it seems fishy to me, is because they want the user to always see their character so they can connect with it, or something like that. My guess is they just don’t want to deal with the extra programming and testing involved.
They used to have an option where you could at least take screenshots without your character hogging up the screen, but they removed that.
How does Anet not test stuff? Why must we always get patches dumped to live without us having a test server.
Costs them so little to have a server where players can (bear with me, crazy idea) test issues ahead of time..
Is there any other real mmo that does not run a test server?
I test software for a living. Not everything can be found before a product is released. There are times when code works perfectly in a test environment, even when the test environment is VERY similar to production in terms of hardware, software, simulated users (or real), etc., but that same code breaks when thrown into production. It is not possible, no matter how much testing you do, to guarantee bug-free code. It just is not possible.
Geez that screenshot speaks volumes. Please do something about this.
+1. I don’t care if you did 20 jump puzzles, or found a secret coin buried in some lake.
lolol so true.
Please allow people to turn off the titles. All they do is clutter up the screen. I’d rather see more of the beautiful scenery and a lot less text.
Ehh, I wouldn’t have reported any of those, but it doesn’t mean others didn’t. Possibly the “jigga” characters? A name has to be blatantly offensive for me to bother reporting it (such as references to violence against women and children, just as an example). But there are a lot of people who have more heightened sensitivity to names.
I suggest the following: pretend you’re an old man or woman playing a video game. You grew up in a different time, when people were more conservative and the worst thing you heard others say was “shoot!” or “golly!” Now imagine you, as an old person, are playing GW2 with your young and naive grandkids who aren’t allowed to watch TV due to a strict family upbringing. They are allowed to read GW2 chat.
Now pick yourself a character name. lol
You really gotta try to look at this from everyone’s perspective (young kids, grandparents, parents, nuns, etc.) to try to find a name that won’t offend anyone. Sometimes it can be difficult to do.
Usually when I see a thread from someone complaining about being suspended due to a name, I can easily see the justification. But I just don’t see it here. imo there’s nothing at all wrong with “Torry Hellheal.”
Do you have any other characters on the account that could have been reported instead? If it really was for the name you listed, I am hoping they reinstate your account sooner rather than later.
If they would just let people zoom in to first-person view already, the op’s question wouldn’t have to be asked. It gets annoying having my character in almost every screenshot!
There have been thousands of accounts blocked for various reasons… hackings, bots, RMT transactions, inappropriate comments in chat, etc. Those folks sometimes had to wait 3+ days. Some of them had to wait a few weeks. ArenaNet has apparently beefed up their customer service department, so wait times have decreased from the weeks that some people used to wait. But yes you are going to have to wait in line.
Put your ticket ID in that 3-day thread I linked once the 3 days have passed assuming you haven’t received a response before then. If you add it to that thread now, it won’t gain you a faster response. The only thing that will happen is you’ll be told to wait until 3 days have passed. There’s nothing else you can do until then.
edit: I see Gaile has already responded. Do as she says.
(edited by gassy.8975)
If your ticket has gone unresolved for at least 3 days, add your ticket number to this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Tickets-for-Review-3-days-and-older-merged
Put in a support ticket. They won’t be able to help you directly here. You’ll have to add a support ticket if you haven’t already. But thanks for letting others know there’s a problem with the store.
Pretend you’re a really old person who grew up in a much more conservative time. Also pretend you’re playing this game with your innocent and naive great-grandchildren who can read but also often ask “What does that mean grandpa?” Pretend they read GW2 chat and read the names.
Now pick yourself a new name that is appropriate for all parties involved and you shouldn’t have any more problems.
Read this: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/mike-obrien-on-account-security/
change your password now. Don’t wait. Someone in China knows your account username and password.
Use an authenticator if you can.
If the password for your email account is the same as the password for your GW2 account, and the email addresses are the same or similar, change your email password also.
For any online service you use, always assume someone is going to try to compromise your account by guessing your password. This does’t apply to just GW2.
With any luck it will progress to this point:
I mean really… is there a better name than “ghghhjh”?
Oh that brings back memories, and they’re not fond memories.
(edited by gassy.8975)
Yes, up to this point anyway. But the bots I have been seeing regularly are reminding me of FFXI, and I left that game solely due to gold farmers and bots.
I really don’t like this type of deja vu.
Please do not replace the current IP/Email authentication with this Mobile 2 Factor Auth system. As a privacy professional who has been fighting against Google’s attempts to turn every person on the planet into a product at the expense of their privacy I do not use any Google products and if you require us to use this service in order to play I will simply stop playing.
It’s compatible with any OATH-TOTP device or app, though, so you wouldn’t be required to use Google Authenticator. You could, for example, use a YubiKey: http://yubico.com/totp
When I looked at the options for authenticators, I did not see Yubikey listed. I would expect ArenaNet would need to do some configuration first before the yubikey can be used with GW2 accounts.
And thank you ArenaNet for offering this. So far it is working flawlessly for me.
(edited by gassy.8975)
Does anyone know if ArenaNet has commented on this? I would really like to get those annoying “hey look at me!” commander icons off of my pve maps. Please!
