[Beta Bug]- Death's Charge

Yup, I’ve gone backwards, or sometimes forward but my char would face backwards after landing. It’s just really buggy right now, and kinda ruins the skill.

Not to mention someone running along side of you will travel as far as your leap, so the leap really isn’t a leap. Try running beside someone in a straight line, do the leap, and you’ll land exactly next to the same person. A leap really should be a leap, as in it should go forward faster, or further.

I found the LF generation on greatsword to be quite good – but I was pretty much exclusively using it in VB open-world PvE, fighting giant groups of enemies. This is the optimal environment for greatsword. On top of that, at least part of the time I had Chilling Victory/Blighter’s Boon producing LF as well.

Yeah that’s the key difference. In PvE, mobs stick on you, you just stand there and swing away. You cleave and gain LF like crazy, so it would appear GS is a good weapon.

Unfortunately in PvP/WvW, players don’t stand there, they don’t face tank you while you swing away. They certainly don’t line up for you to cleave 3 swings. So LF regen really sucks when fighting against players using GS.

Two completely different worlds, different experiences.

Ok so this is worse than I thought. Tonight in WvW, I was just running along with my guild raid. Everybody had swiftness, I was next to someone, used Death Charge. After I landed, I was exactly right next to the same person.

So yes, the animation to start, the mid-flight, and the landing pause take too long. It’s no 600 leap when you travel at the same distance as someone running along side you with the same swiftness.

Suggestion: Either get rid of excess slow animation and the weird landing pause. Or keep things as they are, but extend the leap to 900 range. But right now this skill is lackluster.

Not to mention it’s broken since I’m also getting what others are getting…when you leap, your character face backwards or leap backwards, with no target acquired. With target you leap towards the target normally. But without a target, sometimes your character leap backwards, or leap forward but face backwards when you land.

I have to agree with this, you can’t really effectively close distance on anybody running. It does take a bit too long to chopper forward, and by then you’re supposed to have gained 600 distance on someone, but in reality if they’re running away you’ve only gained 200-300.

Infusing Terror vs Death Shroud

in Necromancer

gavyne.6847

I think you’re forgetting that a Reaper can use any ranged weapon outside of RS. And regular necros fight in melee range all the time, not just by choice of other more mobile classes or for the sake of defending a capture point, but also because that’s where necros are more effective in combat as well.

Anyway, I get that it’s nice to have this huge stability uptime on Reaper, but it seems rather unfair that Death Shroud gets non at all.

Yeah I was gonna mention Death Shroud is most effective up close. Life Blast hits the hardest at 600 range, and hit like wet noodles at 1200 range. Life Transfer and Tainted Shackles are all 600 radius. Within 600 range necros are very susceptible to cc’s. Not to mention Dark Path pulls you to the target. The design ideas behind necro death shroud is that the devs want necros to be up close.

GW2 tournaments = boring, why?

in PvP

Posted by: gavyne.6847

gavyne.6847

GW2 is fast paced, it’s an action combat MMO. It is indeed a bit harder to follow for the audience. But there’s a niche playerbase that enjoys faster paced gaming, so I don’t think GW2 wants to slow combat down at all.

However the rules of the gameplay, that’s where it can use a bit more excitement. It’s always more fun when you watch your teams score, be it rl sports or in games. The scoring method isn’t as exciting as someone carrying a flag to score a point. Also it’s not as exciting watching someone sustain on point, because killing is simply more exciting.

Just think of all the exciting moments where crowd got really into it, those were moments where they had big team brawls. Cheers happened when certain players died. But the way you’re supposed to score, you want to avoid big brawls and sustain on point. If they alter the gameplay a bit so teams would brawl more often, then the tournaments would be more exciting. If they add in easy to understand scoring mechanics such as capture the flag, and allow teams to escort and again…brawl in big team fights, those would end up being very exciting to watch.

Death brings cheers, people want to watch people kill each other in these games. They want to see players brawl in group fights, not just stand on point by themselves. Simple alteration of the gameplay can do great things to bring more excitement for people watching.

Death Shroud deserves something like Infusing Terror, and it can greatly benefit from Blighter’s Boon. Those 2 things, along with RS2 leap, have pretty much made Death Shroud obsolete. It’s too bad really, they could’ve improved necros but they saved all these improvements for Reapers so now you have to take Reapers in order to compete with other classes’ upcoming elites.

They could make more money from WvW players if they sell siege skins. Allow people to buy various skins to change how rams, trebs, catas, etc.. look. The last time they surprised us with reskinned siege, it was a hit.

They could also sell things that enhance guild representation. People that play in WvW are very guild oriented, there’s a certain guild pride that is a step above your ordinary PvE guilds. Allow guilds to buy some extra large flags/banners when they claim their keeps/towers. Perma npc guild outfits for guards in a claimed keep/tower. Let guilds buy something that unlocks stealth seeing npc’s for pesky mesmers.

I’ll also buy something that auto loots bags for me. I’d like to enjoy PvP without having to spam loot keys. It’s just an added tedium that’s not needed. You’re merely selling convenience, not power, so it should fit with GW2’s theme.

It’s actually bad for us players that there are no competition. Because if there was, Anet would do more for WvW, and improve it more. Competition drives companies, always have. Lack of competition allows Anet to do the bare minimum and keep things at status quo.

I don’t think Anet’s lucky there’s no competition. I have no doubt they could do more for WvW. But without competition they have no incentive to.

Currently only ESO compares, and upcoming Camelot Unchained is being built by DAOC’s creator Mark Jacobs, but it’s still in alpha.

At the moment GW2 has the best action combat, smooth animation, and a non-holy trinity system which many feel is a step forward. ESO on the other hand, you may have some fun in it, it’s larger scaled than borderlands, and siege looks & sounds real. You feel like you’re really on a battlefield out there. But I can’t stand its clunky combat controls and reticle targeting, and sadly smooth animation/controls are so important to me I still find GW2 superior despite its downfalls.

Yeah I feel Anet is going a step above other standard F2P games. They are putting good amount of restrictions to at least discourage what you normally see in other F2P games. Give it a chance folks. It’s either they go F2P or they continue slow downward spiral with player population. There’s no better way to gain a large new player population for a 3 year old game.

Heal on dodge, condi removal on dodge, weakness & blind uptime, knockdowns, stuns, upper cuts, landing damage on dodge, I honestly didn’t think they could make thieves more annoying but they’ve managed to give them everything possible to be the ultimate 1v1 annoying machine. Not looking forward to fighting them.

Reapers will do better against Daredevils, but any necros not taking Reaper will hurt big time. This makes Reapers pretty much a must have. And I’m not sure how it’ll play out yet, as Reaper/GS attacks are so slow.

you will face DD with GS? then you opened your own grave. you think they will wait 2s for Gravedigger and 3s for autoattack dmg? hahahaha. they will interrupt the crap out of you if you engage DD with GS

No I won’t, but I was pointing out that GS attacks are too slow, and Reaper will be required as you won’t hit much (therefore not gain much LF) if you chose death shroud or in non-shroud form. Personally I’m sticking with dagger/warhorn until GS proves out otherwise.

I was just pointing out that Reaper will be required, and GS attacks are still too slow.

Games breed toxic communities. A lot of the games you see with toxic communities aren’t due to those games being F2P, but because of certain aspects of the games where they pit players against each other. WoW for an example, for the longest time subscription game, had damage meters. On raids & dungeons if you didn’t do top tier damage or top tier heals, you were laughed at and harassed. That’s just one example where toxic communities were bred from what the game allowed rather than whether a game is F2P or not.

And if people don’t think there are toxic segments of the GW2 community, you need to either open your eyes more or play different game modes. There’s plenty of that to go around in GW2.

Also note that the way GW2 is designed, players are not playing against each other for loot in PvE. This alleviates a lot of the issues that creates a toxic environment. You see this in other MMO’s. GW2’s PvE is designed so everybody’s rewarded for participation. If you didn’t get something, you get angry at the game rather than at other players.

I think F2P will work fine in GW2. You’ll get bad apples for sure, but overall with this game 3 years old, they deserve props for wanting to grow the game rather than let it sit stale and dwindle in player population. You simply can’t rely on vet playerbase forever, people leave. F2P is a good way to bring new blood into the game.

I think IGN either leaked by accident, or they leaked on purpose to gain traffic/click revenue. A leaked story like this will likely increase their traffic by thousands in just an hour or two.

Another probability is Anet ok’ed the leak, because these things usually aren’t done without coordination. A leaked story gives people something to chew on, and it won’t hurt Anet one bit. Now people will be talking about it for the next two days before official reveal.

GW2 is at a point where it needs new players. Not just returning vets, but brand new players that haven’t tried GW2 yet. Going F2P will do just that. It’ll fill the servers up again, and get more people into WvW/PvP.

3 years into a game’s launch, they either do this or continue downward spiral…slow but still downward spiral. I think they’re making the right choice to make sure more people join this fine game. I’m ok with it.

You have to take the good with the bad. The game needs more players and company seeking more revenue from a game that should by all means garner more popularity. If I look at GW2 it has smooth combat controls, smooth animations, fast action combat, and a pretty world. It also have PvE, PvP, and WvW modes to cater to everybody. If more people and increased revenue is what it’ll take for Anet to spend more dev resources on GW2, then so be it.

Dagger is better than Axe in PvE. With that said, if you don’t care to min/max, and you group with people that don’t care to do everything fast & perfectly, then you can use axe no problem. PvE is easy enough as is it really doesn’t matter that much what you use as long as you aren’t with people that complain about min/maxing performance.

But still, dagger is better than axe. We can only hope Mr. Gee will boost axe as he said he’s looking into.

The state of wvw in t2

gavyne.6847

Thanks for posting this explanation, it’s pretty much how I’ve heard it. Something bothers me with what’s happening in T1 now though. BG came in third a few weeks ago right after the moves. I figured that would be the new trend due to their loss of personnel. Losing so many would make it hard for them to win or compete like before. But then the oddest thing happened, BG won the following week. JQ’s blobby blob didn’t roll them off the map and somehow BG is winning again this week. How is that?

BG is known as a server with the largest WvW population, and a ton of “sleeper agents”. They used to take weeks off, and would make 1 push week every now and then just to prove they can get #1 whenever they want to. BG players said this themselves so it’s no conspiracy theory.

They’ve also said BG with sleeper agents like to play the victim role and accuse other servers for being over-stacked. This way they gained sympathy and benefited from getting a lot of transfers, because people thought they actually needed help. When in fact they only lose the weeks they decide to take off and not play. It was said they do this so they can be sure to win season tournaments when they come around again.

Truth is BG is the most stacked server in the entire game. The fact that they can summon omniblobs like no tomorrow even after losing so many guilds to T2 proves it. Note that they aren’t getting new transfers since the population changes, so the sleeper agent theory proves to be true. BG consistently fields 2-3 map blobs during NA, while JQ can only field 1 blob during NA and have a small queue on 1 map. Yet we’re accused as being the blobby server, I find that ironic.

I don’t care for the server politics or all the guild fighting on the forums. But it would appear guilds that left for YB will soon get to fight guilds they dislike. BG isn’t going anywhere, and YB moving up is inevitable. They’ll get to duke it out and have their manhood contest soon.

Plague is superior, Lich has too many counters. Trust your own instinct and experience, there’s a reason why you can’t find a good time to use it. This is because when you pop Lich, you’re completely totally vulnerable, and you lose all access to cc’s and utilities.

Where as with plague, you get to clutch rez teammates, you get a guaranteed stomp, it saves you when you’re being pressured which happens a lot to necros.

Speed of Shadows is pretty amazing with Reaper, I actually played BWE with that trait and liked it. With Blighter’s Boon you gain lifeforce like crazy, so you get to pop Reaper Shroud more often. The reduced cd on shroud was very nice with Reaper, and icing on the cake was 25% speed when Reapers are already pretty unstoppable movement wise if you take Relentless Pursuit. Add in chill and leap that Reapers have access to, Speed of Shadows become a pretty viable trait to take.

Is there reason NOT to take Reaper

in Necromancer

Posted by: gavyne.6847

gavyne.6847

No reason to not take Reaper unless you expect to play 100% ranged. Even in WvW ZvZ, Reaper will be superior due to much better LF regen, sustain, chill, stab, stun, and leaps. You range haze mostly using staff anyway, DS is really only used when zergs clash or as a defensive tool.

Losing out on 1200 range lifeblast sucks, but note that lifeblasts hit like a wet noodle at that range anyway, you’ll quickly get used to not having it. Losing out on lifetransfer sucks, because it’s an aoe that does not require los and useful at hitting people behind walls and objects. But I think most people will find the trade off worthy and learn to live without it.

The new proposed changes to shouts will make at least 1 or 2 of them worthy of loading on your utility bar.

I see no reason to not go Reaper. Reapers patch up a lot of holes with necros. Ever since BWE I find it hard to play my necro because of how weak he is, and how lackluster & boring the gameplay is without the Reaper.

Also T1 server’s aren’t a PPT fest. The are K-Train fests. If they were PPT fests then how come servers don’t respond to me taking a paper keep in their home bl with a small group (10ish) with one golem (alpha) and 1 ram on each door. We got scouted and a few from the map tried to stop us but didn’t bring us down. After we took the keep we held it for an hour at least before a K-Train finally showed up to take it back. What took them so long? They though they would get more PPT by taking 2 towers in EBG then defending a keep? I’m not sure why people think T1 plays for PPT when they don’t. I join JQ public Teamspeak form time to time and never to they seem to have a concern as to how our PPT compares to other servers. Depending on the guild running the Zerg they are either looking for fights (fun) or just running through as many paper objectives as they can before porting to another map and repeating.

I can tell you it’s ppt, as all 3 servers in T1 right now are ppt’ing hard to avoid dropping to T2. As for your calls unanswered, a lot depends on the timezone, and often it has to do with the current pin being preoccupied. If it’s during NA, NA has a lot of smaller guilds, many prefer to fight than pvd.

Anyways, if you know JQ, none of the guilds on JQ likes to ktrain or play the ppt/backcapping game. But right now with BG pushing hard 2 weeks in a row now, everybody’s forced into this boring ppt-fest. Most guilds would prefer to fight, but you can’t fight if you are either 1) outblobbed, or 2) opponents waypoint to empty maps to pvd whenever you show up.

If you don’t understand map politics, I suggest you talking to the commanders. Also if you aren’t on ts, you’re simply not understanding what’s going on elsewhere. Don’t just assume, join ts so you know what they’re doing. Rather than assume people aren’t helping you because of this and that.

I have heard rumors of 7 Guilds leaving JQ (NA) but wasn’t sure if a Developer might come back with some actual numbers. I figure they are watching them after the changes to see how everything is going.

Wrong info. Most of the guilds that left T1 were BG guilds, and they moved to YB, a couple went to TC. JQ lost maybe a couple of guilds during the same organized move.

But facts remain, JQ used to queue 3 maps during NA Primetime. These days you’ll find queues on 1 map usually during primetime. A lot of people are simply unhappy with the way things are going, and have stopped playing. Some are just bored out of their minds because T1 turned into a ppt-fest.

Why Zerging is the Meta

in WvW

Posted by: gavyne.6847

gavyne.6847

PPT playstyle can be boring. That’s the biggest reason. Sometimes the most PPT-efficient strategy requires avoiding fights or ktraining. It’s BORING!

I actually find defending objective quite fun and interesting. I play a ranger and often sit on the walls finding someone that oversteps just a bit so I can burst them to down state. If I’m luck then I get the kill on them if not I might have still knocked stacks off them. After a while of this their numbers dwindle and eventually our group can push out and have a good fight. This is more subjective so it will depend form player to play.

You are a ranger, you are about the only class that have the range to hit things outside the walls. Most other classes get insta pulled or gibbed by ground marks because they lack the range to do much of anything unless they stand right on top of attackers and poke their heads out like target dummies. Rangers can stand to the side and safely pluck away.

I agree with the person you quoted, ppt/pvdoor is just boring. Defending at its current form is boring for most classes. Defending is also whacked because of zoom hacks with ac’s that can destroy everything inside, and you can’t even mount a last stand in lords room without standing in ac fire.

Bottom line is people don’t ppt because it’s boring. But even T1 servers have turned into ppt fest because people fear of dropping out of T1. It’s ridiculous watching a zerg of 30+ run away from fights just so they can ppt more.

Reaper shout suggestion

in Necromancer

Posted by: gavyne.6847

gavyne.6847

I would be fine with shouts as-is if we can use shouts in Reaper Shroud. If you think about what the shouts do, it makes sense to let us use it in Reaper Shroud. I find it awkward to have to pop out of shroud to use shouts where they are most effective when in middle of a bunch of people. And in case devs aren’t aware, necros are paper in middle of a bunch of people outside their shrouds. Not to mention I’m then locked out of reaper shroud for 7-10 seconds for popping out to use shouts. It’s in my opinion it makes sense to allow us to use the shouts in reaper shroud.

If we are to keep shouts non-accessible by reaper shroud, then there needs to be a 50% reduction in cast time. Shouts should by all means by instant, but I’ll settle with 50% reduction in cast time. Worst one is the elite, it has decent effects, but nothing should take 2 seconds to cast in PvP/WvW.

Lastly it would be nice if some of the boons we gain are shared by 5 allies around us. This would make shouts more group friendly, and likely be taken by more necros.

Server politics, almost as dumb and pointless as rl politics. I do find it funny and ironic how everybody believes in their own facts & truths, and apparently everybody else is wrong for seeing things differently. But just like in rl, sometimes both parties can be right, they simply see things and experience things differently from their perspectives.

I see a lot of misinformation tossed around, but that’s what happens when you get into politics. Each server is going to agree and cheer on only those speaking for their servers, and they’ll think everybody else is rubbish even if they make sense. Not gonna bother getting into details on the wrong info people are posting. Because frankly it won’t make a difference as people are dead set in believing what they’re saying.

This is only an issue with this game because of the amount of ground marks available, and how ground marks work. This wasn’t an issue in DAOC. Here people mark up the walls, and those standing on the walls can’t get near to cast down because marks extend beyond just the side of the walls. Ground marking covers up so much space that makes height a disadvantage. I’m not sure if they can ever change this, unless they make it so ground marks can’t clip over the top of the walls.

Also oil and canons are suicide to even utilize because of the ground marks and again, the radius of aoe’s. Personally I think those operating oil should not be able to be touched. Canons, a bit too powerful to be given the same invulns so they can be left as is. But they shouldn’t be so easy to destroy.

Lastly, they need to either fix zoom hacks with arrow carts or change how arrow carts work completely. It’s stupid to have ac’s built outside that can destroy literally everything inside. It’s equally dumb to be having a last stand at the lord’s room only to get rained on by ac’s outside that should never even be able to hit you. Last stand at lord room was a big thing with DAOC, defenders who are outnumbered actually had a chance at the lord room defense. Here? You might as well just waypoint before gates fall. Because if they can’t kill you with a push, they’ll build 100 ac’s and unrealistically fire into a totally covered room with you having no place to get out of dodge.

One last thing, height is also a disadvantage when you’re just fighting group to group or zerg to zerg. Because you lose 1/4 of your raid just by those wall hazing below. And the amount of pulls in this game? It’s suicide to be on top of walls. Ridiculous. So many lil things that are wrong with WvW in this game, I guess that’s why many still have fond memories of DAOC.

Ahh solo roam WvW, maybe you should link the build you’re running so we can make suggestions. But yes, solo roaming is rough just because people can disengage and run away if they want to. Not to mention the inevitable adds you’ll get roaming in WvW, and you having no way to disengage or escape.

I’ve found curses and signet builds to work well in WvW roaming. The high weakness uptime and plague sending is great against thieves and mesmers. You would pretty much need to make sure you have 100% lifeforce or you’re dead, don’t even bother. And to be quick to pop deathshroud or stun break so you don’t just soak the initial burst.

I’d like RS2 to have a secondary press, much like RS 3 where you press it the second time for the fear. RS 2 should chopper forward on the first press, and upon second press it stomps down for a finishing move. This allows people to still use RS 2 as escape/mobility, but gives people the option to skillfully time when to “land” for a hit/blast.

RS 3’s fear should definitely get a small range increase.

RS 5 is hard to land, but I suppose with a big payoff it’s ok. Wouldn’t mind a small range increase as it’s extremely hard to land with the long cast time as-is.
