Huh? That stun is tiny and has a terribly obvious pre-cast to show you that it’s coming.

Mostly because there are ways around the concerns of reviving downed state that you have. For the most part, it just takes paying attention to get the counters off.

ok, ill try to follow the trend. i guess that means poison, knock backs, cleave and stability stomp. i believe i’ve seen some fake stomping too, not sure about that one yet.

i’ll try this. i have only done power ranger couple of times, but its really relaxing to get on some high spot and snipe longbow down on teamfight. not so much if you get meleed, but may be sword can help with that. i didn’t like spirit ranger much

its good to know that anet is working on some grand update (as repeatedly hinted) and this takes time. but pls, include warrior (pindown, stance, -8%) and spirit ranger bug fix in nearest maintenance patch. these are changes that devs and playerbase agree upon (according to ready up streams). this alone would take care of most complains. there is no reason to drag this on. this (may be but pindown animation, forget it) must be easy fixes. there is no reason to tag this on feature patch, while pvp experience suffers for prolonged time.

It is not 3k dps, get this in your head. It is not one life blast per second. It takes about 1.5 sec per life blast. So it is more like 2k dps, which is mediocre at best.

I interrupt HS since it’s forcing them to blow more initiative (and easier to react to.) If you’re in melee range when they dropped the BP and are blinded then it depends on your cooldowns. Blurred Frenzy, Cry of Frustration (or Mind Wrack, though it depends on how close the clones are), MoResolve, Chaos Storm… even a sword autoattack if you’re quick enough. Anything that’ll quickly remove the blind so you can squeeze in Power Lock.

Keep in mind though that unless you have daze duration (Confounding Suggestions + Mesmer Runes) or a way to knock them out of the powder they have enough recovery to still HS-stealth after the daze wears out. It helps to push/pull/immobilize/chill/burst right after the CC.

i see, thx. just one more pls: if i succeed in hs interrupt, would it go on 3sec cd? and if yes, wouldnt that barely leave time for hs in the same bp? also, can they still stealth (after hs interrupt) if they can switch to shortbow#2?

C’mon gesho, there are many things that are situationally overpowered in this game.

But of all things I could think of right now, life blast is not one of them.

It is highly telegraphed, visually distictable, requires DS to be charged, is bloody slow and does mediocre damage per second.

If you die from six life blasts in a row, you are doing it wrong. You deserved to die actually. You didn’t heal, you didn’t interrupt, you didn’t dodge, you didn’t try to evade or get away. You played sitting duck for at least 9 sec.

If you play PvP, you have to be active. And flexible. And you need to know your opponent, their skills and their possible playstyles.

You failed in doing so and so you deserved to lose. It is as simple as that.

may be. or not. for instance 3k dps = mediocre is definitely “not”.

i already said in the very first posts that my play was inexperienced, to say the least.

umm, no, not really. civility has many rules, but commenting on general playstyle or spells in a video game (as opposed to personal comments) is not one of them, not one that i am aware of anyway. i am no fun of dull care-bear conversation, but i try to be careful never to cross the line of offensive and rude language. while sometimes i fail, i don’t think it has happened in this thread (an please point to me if otherwise). and by the way, when i fail, i try to muster decency to apologize.

thread has digressed quite a bit from necro skills into ethics. frankly, i’d rather end it. i hope we’ll have a better communication next time around.

excellent, i also got all the answers i needed with what little question i had.

well u didnt really ask a question. u wanted lifeblast to be nerfed, because u think you should not have died. u made a build asked in the mes forum, mes people told it was bad, but u come with the attitude that your build is not supposed to die.
of course people are attacking you for this nonsense. i play power necro although i main a mesmer and i die to power necros sometimes too, but never have i thought of lifeblast as op ever.
they are slow, have long aftercast and easy to dodge and your build is supposed to die to everything as u dont have anything to get distance from necro, no leaps, no stealth nothing specific. we all told u that a mantra build especially the way u made it is not viable. pyro tested it, i tested it too and a lot of mesmers tried to make mantrabuilds viable, but its not.
necro is fine and actually i think necro do need buffs in certain areas. and lifeblast is not a regular autoattack.

lol, buddy this is all fine. you have one opinion and i have different. my lb experience is very superficial, with just single encounter, i havent crunched numbers and there have been none offered on the other end of the argument either, this is all very amature conversation on both ends. but why is this a reason for rudness?

conversation can be dull, can be provocative, cab be accurate, or not, this is all fine, my concern rather is whether it is civil. for instance comments about someone’s personal traits is certainly out of bounds to any exchange with claim to civility.

yes, especially those classes which have stealth and while you try to stomp, guard (with stability himself) rezzes them.

ok, i forged couple of items in zommoros. but while i have other components left (not much, around 50 of arcanse silver and other similar quantities), i am out of rank/tournament tokens (i almost entirely pvp in hotjoins). is there a way to get them? wiki says i should salvage pvp items, which is not very useful for me. i’m not aiming to get something specific, i just thought not to waste pvp forging component before they retire. salvaging some pvp items to get single new item is not a point.

is there anything i can do?

If you are teamfighting against say, two warriors, guardian, ranger, I think it makes sense to kill the guardian first.

a question: would it make sense, if large team, to entirely focus on guardian? ’caus often, if you down other profs, they might have downed mechanics which is hard to stomp, and guard keeps rezzing them.

i have no idea pretty much of anyone of those who posted here and don’t care much about what flaws of their character gives them condescension or rudeness, i dont see any of these as my issue at slightest. apart from you. which is to say, i don’t know much about you either, but i have seen you active in mesmer community and helpful to many including myself on couple of occasions. pity you still came off like this.

spirits arent ai, they are counterable buffs.

turrets (as other ai) imo need manual mode. for instance they can periodically fire ground targeted shot (within the range of their location), which needs player activation. no auto attack

I can keep an engis healing turret interrupted on my thief and Im pretty sure thats a close to instant skill so, pretty much anything. Its also pretty easy to predict when someones going to heal based on their rotations/hp left.

healing turret is not insta. also depends when you interrupt it, deployment or burst. both together are 0.5 + 0.5 =1sec and ver visible too.

it is this specific situation that suggested the thread to me. do you interrupt powder or hs? if hs, arent u blinded by then? how do u remove it quickly? cleansing (or healing) mantra, daze mantra chain?

only difference we have is phantasmal fury vs compounding celerity. i tried pf, but ended up in favor of cc. i believe wiki mentiones that pf doesn’t affect swordsman, so you only get duelist fury. duelist, with his channeled attack, is the rest reliable. on the other hand, perma in combat swiftness is big. for instance we both have crippling dissipation. that, combined with celerity, should help kiting a lot (although i’m not sure kiting is the way to go, but could be).

at this point my goal is to try my best against thieves. my first plan is to try and interrupt either their blinding powder (is this possible in informed way?), or subsequent heartstreak (which will also require removing blind).

what’s you play against thieves?

ps: not sure about lyssa. this has sooo much condi removal, it feels kinda waste.

  • reasonable telegraph
  • you expect the spell some time around (but no exact info)
  • there is no particle field, etc visual obstruction
  • you have insta interrupt on skills bar
  • you are not too slow, not too fast, average response time

what cast time should spell have to be interrupted in informed way? for instance, is it possible to catch thief’s black powder (0.5 cast time) by mesmer’s mantra interrupts?

@DeathReign.7821 can you post your build? i feel once being so much invested in mantras through skills slots, i’d rather max on my money and get traits aligned to mantra (and well – phantasm) benefits. one alternative was to go for more phantasm traits instead (health, fury), but i believe numbers line up behind mantra traits better.

if i block (say engi shield, mesmer scepter) AFTER i’ve been blinded, block part still stands, right? i prob will miss the “if attacked” part of my spell? i don’t get damage and probably if opponent attacks, he won’t get dazed/tormented/etc?

is this right?

also, how is ele aura working? eg dagger#air#3, i believe its called electric shock aura? if i get attacked, opponent gets shocked, by does damage gets to me?

Phantasm specs fall apart in bigger team fights. When combining the build with mantras, they are going to have low hp and no uptime with all the aoe and cleaving that flies around.

Full mantras are cumbersome because of the long channel. Against skilled opponents, you’re going to be punished hard for doing it mid fight, and even if you’re not you are taking yourself out of the fight for a noticeable amount of time. It’s a little unfeasible to have all of your utilities and healing wrapped up in 11 seconds of channel time.

this is all true, especially phantasm part. when facing phantasms myself, mostly i feel i just need to run on other side of fight and phantasms will be taken care of when passing through mid death-ball. in team fight they are placid.

but mantra’s, i’m still not giving up on them. in punishment if you mean interrupts, stability and dazes should provide some cover to this. there is time off and a dps loss, but phantasms mechanics somewhat tame that. it’s about 25% of say staff aa dps, which means around 200dps loss. i haven’t run numbers (i should), but i believe this build gets 11k/11sec guaranteed heal, which is about x2.5 infamous healing signet. and condi “immunity”. in fresh fight it’s guaranteed for 40 seconds, someone in 1v1 should be down by then. coupled with around 1.5k dps – that’s not that bad. looks like sustain here (1.5 dps, 1k hps) is very good. it’s burst (thieves, may be eles) that is a challenge.

what i like here is that you dont have to spam anything, you just get phantasms out and then play reactively, using dazes to ruin opponent mechanics, skills like scepter#2 and sword#4, sword#2, pistol #5 to counter opponent. and maintaining mantra charges, which need some management.

i’m mostly playing in hotjoins and what i care most is winning 1v1, anet conquest mode is secondary to me. i could be home defender and though very slow out of combat, could go far point too. for instance this build should not be bad against spirit ranger (or any ranger), should it? against guardians probably it will be a draw (and they get the point). i should do well against necro and engis (even rifle). i had hambows on run on number of occasions. if i could get it against thieves, i’d be happy with this build.

gigi, chill out peeps, i see more drama in this topic then quick post that i fired after casual hotjoin. the build i was playing is full mantra phanta mesmer and only thief is allowed to kill me (working on that one too). it’s not my main (i dont main) and as mesmer’s think, not even viable, but at least condi necros are facerol and mm – not sure, i’ve only played it for couple of nights, but i guess should not be too bad, since i can kite with cripple and can’t be immobilized. of all builds this one could easily stop that lb spam. as i said, i thought it was condi opponent, for which (when i play it) lb is obscure dont bother waste of a autoattack.

not to say that i think it’s ok. 3k auto attack with no requirement other then 600 range. notice that other necro ds skills with half of that single target damage have 15-20 sec cd and can be easily dodged with a very visible channeling graphics.

in fact, if it is such an easily countered non issue as every necro pointed here, why not put a small, say 3 sec cd on it? no damage loss for necros (as you say) and casual players like me could be happy, sounds like win-nonIssue. not that i care too much about it at this point (in fact plan to play that build in coming days), just curios how folks here will settle to have a cake and eat it too. so much for non-issue.

The highest boost of all your boosts is taken, but movement speed increase is capped at 33% anyway.

This means that 66% speed increase is generally not noticeable compared to the 33% from Swiftness… but if you’re chilled, it’ll completely cancel the chill’s slowing effect, while swiftness will only partially mitigate it.

i wonder how this works. if it is multiplicative (as i would think it should be), it should take +200% boost to offset your chill

lol, peeps, you can pile a whole necro convention here, but there is no other 3k auto in this game, not by a mile (and ranged in bonus). any other skill on the same ds, some with lesser damage, have 10-20 sec cd. its skill-less spam and way out of size for damage/effort. just copy the build and spam away #1111111111111.

You let the Necro hit you repeatedly with a slow moving, long cast time projectile, that requires the Necro to have already built up life force, and can only be cast a set number of times before that life force runs out. Frankly, I’m not sure what to tell you.
Did you dodge? Did you use an invulnerability/block skill? Did you CC the Necro? Did you damage the Necro to force them out of Death Shroud? Did you run away?

as i said, i thought he was condi and yes, i could have prevented couple, but 17k/6 sec? 17 in a row? just checked on my necro (which is traited for condi, not slow decay, etc), dished out 17 blasts per full lifepool. i dont have 17 dodges/interrupts/blocks/LOS, no. 17*3k – that can kill me x2 times over.

as for slow cast, doesnt really matter slow or fast if you have 17 of them. and as for slow projectile, on attached screenshot casttime is almost over and still there is no visible sign. again not that avoidance matters much, there are 17 more coming.

Oh it works for a while, then it just become an infuriating mechanic. You will forget to charge. And you’ll blame yourself.

I only recommend full Mantra builds if you’re good at playing piano. Because that’s what it will feel like, constantly cycling the keys to maintain effectivness.

i dont mind that. phanta mesmer has some time off (relative to some others builds) once phantasms are out, so might as well do something


i’ve tried it today again, not too bad. still struggling with thieves. today it was not stealth/backstab, just spamming #1 dagger, outdps’s me pretty fast. kiting d/p is hardly possible. i guess unloading all my dazes is the only option.
