gesho, i honestly dont know what the purpose of this topic is.
that’s okay buddy, take it easy
@Wanze.8410 i should not say impossible, i made some myself, but long term trends have been disruptive.
@Behellagh.1468 that’s fine, this however is about long term trends, 6 month or longer, which doubles or halves (or more) prices. together with 15% fee this eats into medium level variation. while prices would vary 15%+profit margin, long term trend will already carry them in a new range.
Prices are falling because they rose when ascended armor crafting went life. Now demand slows down and prices fall.
T5 fine mats are rising in price for 2 weeks now.
would be great if it was one time only event, but look at few different commodities, in the end in entire price history you will never find any single plateau, there is alway a long term trend, overriding medium term variations enough to make speculation (against 15%fee) impossible.
i can confirm that blind only prevents the next hit from connecting, not the whole attack.
example: only 1 arrow from rapid fire misses, not the whole rapid fire attack
thx buddy
It looks like prices are returning to normal. They went up due to everyone suddenly crafting when the skills cap changed from 4oo to 5oo.
that is true. but spike started a little earlier, in summer? skill cap increase was in september, wasnt it?
more importantly, when will this be over? any opinions?
Those prices are simply driven by supply and demand and I would know why Anet should change anything concerning it.
not when it is across the board

just to be sure: blind only misses single tick of channeled spell, right? eg if i blind hunter against incoming rapid fire, of 10 ticks ill only be spared of one? unlike say knock-back, daze (or any other interrupt), which would kill all tick that havent fired yet.
is this right?

Part 1 of a series dedicated to redesigning and fixing GW2 combat, profession by profession.
NECROMANCER: “I LACK AN IDENTITY!”
Necromancer is billed as the “attrition class” of GW2. However, it is in fact just another DPS class that typically focuses on spamming poorly-cued, low cool-down ranged skills to deal excessive DoT via conditions.
how will shifting dmg to power make necro attrition class? isnt that opposite of attrition? attrition = delayed condi damage, while surviving.
necro has top condi dmg (so strong that more talk of condi spike than attrition) and enough survival to be one of top tiers in sPVP. means = leave him alone.
i loved auction house buy/sell in other mmo(s). that was more fun than crafting. but with gw2 for past 6 month all medium level price variation has been trumped by long term price drop. whatever you try to get in, you only have a window of 2-3 days to sell, then they go down (as a general rule). look at any basic commodity, everything is falling, sometimes severalfold.
Q: does Anet econ folks expect macro to stabilize? was it gauntlet gold party that destabilized prices? do gw2 econ ppl plan some devices to offer a more stable price levels in future?
they it has been for past 6 month – prices are decreasing across the board. better stay in gold for a while.
- Am i doom to just play hot join because i’m not +r40? Is this the opinion of the community or just this guy?
buddy, you better get a thicker skin, else you are going to suffer a lot through life.
id shot him once, sthing like: “id rather be r27 noob then standing in the corner loser. r27 will grow with practice, gaining ranks in no time, while sore loser is for life.”
yu dont have to fire twice. stay assured, glass cannon temper like that will bleed for a week.
They could have it like smite: A casual queue with solo/duo/trio, ranked pure solo+team queue maybe?
already small sPVP player pool cant support so much fragmentation and still provide fast queue and even matchmaking.
Rename it
Allow for duo/trios(dno about trios but whatever) to queue up, make the match making try to put equal amount of duo/trio on each team.
Also rename all points to ABC
>_>
And remove Hot Join!
entire purpose of SoloQueue was to prevent party queue for those who wanted tPVP but had no group.
keep it as is.
@Geiir.7603 thx buddy, i agree with you on all counts. i feel this will work or fail depending on in-combat mobility (since, unlike d/p, not many gap closers). going over runes, i liked Runes of Air, they have critDamage for stats, but better yet, they should help with swiftness a lot (especially with withdraw heal on short cd).
i also gave up 2init/stealth for cripple removal (Acro VII). not quite sure about this one, i’ll see how much im init starved. of sigils, how about sigil of ice? who’s chilled now
? signet of agility was by mistake, i meant to put signet of shadows (again – mobility). i’ll give it another try.
OMGimAnoobLOLOL.4730 i love d/p thief too. i played it second most iv pvp and i dont pve much, but half of my pve experience is lvling d/p thief to lvl40. one thing that i’m not too d/p crazy is #5-#2 chain as a main source of stealth, it feels like an exploit to me (especially with multiple jumps in the same smoke).
however i’d disagree with d/d being “mindless”. i feel it is very dynamic, gotta watch your target constantly and stay under fire, while pulling your acrobatics.
Engi > thief in 1v1.
Ele > Engi in 1v1.
Thief > Ele 1v1Every class has at least one that should be able to beat it in a 1v1. Well, all except for mesmers, who are the best at 1v1.
In what world eles kill engis in pvp lol
In a world were eles play scepter/focus.
is d/d ele harder for thief?
i play thief off main. i used to play d/p mostly, but i dont like d/p #5+#2 for stealth. its good, closes gaps, but somehow still seems unnatural and clanky to achieve stealth.
if viable, i like d/d #4+#5+#1 for backstab. i also like d/d #3 too. for me thief is being in the face, dancing around target and d/d #3 is that kind of spell.
i tried d/d yesterday in hotjoins. sometimes i would do great, but sometimes would be terrible. i am not complaining about mm necro. but there was r36 d/d ele (i’m r29, mostly engi). i was chilled most of time, he used water aura, electric aura, bottom line i could never get to him for cloak and dagger. later i started using d/d#4 more, but still, not easy.
this is roughly my build. i have fleet shadow for stealth movement and now i’m thinking to give up trickery-VI for acrobatics-VII to remove cripple.
any opinion about d/d viability and how to better pull backstab?
also, not sure about withdraw. initially i got it for trickery-XII, 4init/15 sec was great. but i didnt have enough traitpoints for it. i still kept it for in-out nature of thief, but stimes i would put effort in getting close up to target, need a heal and have to give up hardly earned 130 unit radius.
i love to put condi removal in my builds, but with hide-in-shadows, its 1sec cast and 30sec cd? these days if you need condi removal, you’ll usually be dead in 3 sec, does 30sec cleanse make difference?
also, is shadowtrap worth it as disengage tool? 1.5 casttime. there were moments where i wished i had it (i often forget to set it before), but is it good enough? ive been looking for blinding power instead.
(edited by gesho.9468)
My main is a thief, is because of my profession that engi is a hard counter to me?
engies are bad for thieves. have to pick another target.
first
ya man, supposed duelists losing repeatedly to a supposed scrubby terrible build. fighting wurm grubs is a bigger challenge for sure.
then
i have no opinions of any kind pls forgiv
so which one is it in the end?
you come fresh from pve, call 30 duelists worse than worms and when called on these words, you suddenly have no opinion.
i sort of start to see why those players were mad, and might not be just your 500hp/sec build alone.
Because I need to get my achievement points up to compete in the top 30 of the achievement leaderboard.
how about those players who need balanced matches to keep up their leaderboard position?
fighting wurm grubs is a bigger challenge for sure.
is this your opinion of pvp community skills in general? 30 matches is no small number.
looks like op lost interest in the thread after posting about newbie pve downing 30+ pvp duelists.
buddy devs, talk to us
i’ve seen just couple of bots in my first half year of playing.
i have seen five in past 2 days.
they would keep bumping in walls, staring at you, casting once in a while nonsensical spells.
this was to be expected with rewards in sPvp. i’ve been reporting them, wonder if anyone’s watching.
Examples of (imo very balanced and strong) 1v1 builds:
PU Mesmer
Phant Mesmer
MM Necro
…
cmon, how is phanta mes balanced 1v1? this is one 1v1 god out there. may be thiefe stands a chance against him, but even that may be outplayed by scepter #2 on such short cd.
yes, sense of humor is certainly there, but i am afraid jocke is on us
just out of hotjoins. several games have been around this guy, he usually ended in top half of the roster score-wise. lvl 56ranger. I thought to check him out, must be doing miracles. so here goes screenshot.
…
yes, he was running naked, only equipped with single weapon (i dont mean two handed, just single weapon). build-wise essentially it was 3.3k attack stat, that was all he needed. he would run with the crowd, stay on the ally side of he crowd and from safe distance go 5-4-3-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1——
results were amazing.
…
now, I’ve been tweaking my dagger ele second day, trait-chaining signets, auras and and boons. i would not mind easy/hard, but numbers? if one would twist keyboard threefold, may be one would get half of this guys numbers.
all is vain.
…
also: condi meta is so gone. the only place for it – in big teamfight one toon for aoe condi preassure, that’s it. takes forever to deliver damage and half of it will be cleansed away. against power bursts 1v1 – useless (you go phanta mesmer). when focusing down in teamfight to down the low health guy – power does it. condi is meh.
(edited by gesho.9468)
i play condi engi, d/p thief, phanta mesmer, condi necro and ele evenly. i dont think engi is op. in 1v1 phanta mesmer is imo stronger. thief is stronger single target (in general, though engy with aoe against stealth isnt thieve’s fav target). engi doesnt have 1shots, it will never be op 1v1 unless your foe autoattacks under 5stacks of confusion. it is true that condi engi is guards worst nightmare, that much is true.
By the way, it’s been months since anyone in arena.net tried to push the ezports, it was a good idea for the launch, tons of dudes bought the game with the ezports in mind, so it sold a nice amount of units.
there was an explanation, that eSports is under burner for now, they are waiting some features to be added before renewing push. imo this is proper
i’m very much against sPvp progression, this is dealbreaker for me (and any casual probably)
but, i believe in this case we have miscommunication. devs said in stream that these will be easy unlcks, sort of get you feet wet, 5scrolls (skills) gets you account-wide access. and in a way that might indeed help newplayer.
what would really help new player are few preset templates per each prof.
I agree with mobas, gesho, but there are other genres as well.
The point about anet’s position, no.
I think while it may be overwhelming at first, it brings in variety and allows a slightly difference experience. It opens up more playstyles.
The issue with balance as for now is however that the balance changes from last year’s summer were just incredibly horrible for the competitive aspect of the game. I feel it was due to a buff for condition builds in either WvW or PvE (no blame to the players here).
I really just wanto to see a sincere stance from Anet with the last remaining veterans and a clarification on the direction of further changes. So far, there has been a lot of neglect or flawed communication. So if things are clarified, players can either play or leave depending on the information.
its not so much complexity of divided game (which is an issue), but rather your point essentially reduces to rejecting the genre of mmo with multiple modes, single game having pve/spvp/openWorldPvp aspects. if those are separate locations, separate gear and then also separate spells, what is the idea of single game? just being slapped under single brand of “gw2”? what do you share across modes? friends list? gold? interface? in times of twitter and skype that’s non-issue.
i believe elder scrolls are doing just that, separate pve game and now separate ESonline for wvw. or better yet (and more genuinely) one can play LoL separate and elder scrolls pve separate, there you have two separate games.
imo balance is not that much of an downer, it’s still playable. on the other hand, i dont think separation of game modes helps it that much either (mobas? not better at balance). there will always be issues of team vs 1v1 balance, casual newbie vs highend skill-cap tier balance, capture vs dueling balance, etc, etc.
i think overall gw2 has it right. there are some issues, but they are known (healing sig, spirit ranger elite) and in pipeline for fixing.
- Common balance: Skills and traits have various ranges, cool-downs, effects, etc. There are various different factors playing a role for taking one skill or trait over the other. Some stuff is more suited for PvE, some is more suited for WvW, some is more suited for sPvP. Trying to balance one will possibly bring imbalance to the other. There is no excuse for no split balance since there are cries of frustration from PvE- and WvW-players too.
imo anet’s position to keep skills common between pve/spvp/wvw, while, where unavoidable, only allowing numbers tweaking is a golden middle and a must for mmo pvp. else game will disintegrate in three separate parts joined by name and logo only. three game modes are already quite separate in gear, leveling. they differ in many stats and now in quite a few skills. they differ in location. the only thing that still gives mmo rp experience is character skills.
if you want dedicated pvp balance you need to go moba this days. not that it’s better balanced, but to many it will appear so.
did u have healing signet?
……………….
i see. thx
……………….
as title says it. on my mesmer i got sigil of int on my sword. i go in combat on golem. i swap to scepter/sword (autoattack off). i call phanta swordsmen and he doesnt always crit.
is sigil not covering phantasm’s damage?
This is yet another incarnation of “I want it because I don’t have it”.
Arathi Basin (AB) in WoW is pretty much the same as conquest in GW2. The scaled down version, Battle of Gilneas is even closer.
Alterac Vally (AV) in WoW is hated by most competitive players and is usually just PvE. It has a lot of similarities with WvW, though you encounter players in WvW far more than in AV.
Warsong Gulch (WSG) in WoW is the quintessential capture the flag (CTF) map. A lot of people like CTF and clamor for it in MMORPGs, but it doesn’t make for healthy competitive play. CTF lends itself to balling up and using a single tanky yet mobile player as a flag carrier. CTF in GW2 would make warrior required. You can counter that by disabling abilities while carrying the flag, but players don’t like not playing their character (which is why vehicles, event weapons, and transformations are often frowned upon).
Other common PvP formats have similar issues, which is why ArenaNet decided on conquest. The GvG of GuildWars1 tends to ball up in one location, making it hard to notice individual action (this is a bit of a moot point given spell effect spam), but it also often leads to stale gameplay. Everyone is in the center and they move back and forth a bit. There’s little variation from game to game.
Martyr (one object in the map that is held by a player for points) has the same problems as CTF, but instead of balling up in two places (two flag carriers), it’s one spot.
If ANet did add these additional formats, then people would complain about them just as much as they complain about not having them.
+1
gloom and doom crowd drowns in forum tears for wsg ctf mode, but when getting a chance to carry the orb turns out they hate the spirit map.
if you like ab, how come you cry over gw2 capture mode?
and arathy? even wow aficionados uniformly hate it for zergfest
id rather not turn this into wow thread, but
why not always keep teams even.
if s’one quits – put random/volunteer guy from other team on waitlist for fight.
if s’one wants to join even fight, put him on waitlist.
quitter still gets dishon debuffs.
waitlisted player might be eligible for some benefits of game outcome (rank, glory, mmr)
in wow (just an example) you had to get lucky once. if you scored that warriors charge or rogue’s chain – you could sit back and drink coffee, while your macro would run. this was the playstyle with most specs. now some ppl think pulling this one shot is a measure of skill.
in gw2 you have few weaker skills on shorter cd. you still need to deliver them (well for most builds, but rangers and some) but you have to do this again and again. you need to target, or kite or catch up, but not once, you have to do this consistently. ultimately whoever has better skills at delivering more/better spells gets upper hand. this repetition by some ppl is perceived as spammy.
i want to add:
multiple trials != spam.
one shot = RNG victory
keep gw2 “spammy”
(edited by gesho.9468)
i wish all quitters would deliver on their quitting.
A lot of PvP players feel like Anet is neglecting PvP and that their main focus is PvE. That is not entirely true. Their main focus is the Gem store, PvE is just the best method of introducing the new items:
- Make a new shopping list of grindy achievements .
- Wrap the list up in some sort of “story”.
- Release items in the Gem Store that are somewhat related to the “story”.
- ???
- Profit!
Sometimes they just skip a few steps and say: “Hey, spend $50 and you’ll get this absolutely useless minipet!” And that is exactly what people do. So that brings us to the real problem of PvP: no way to monetize it. Sure, some people buy armor skins and finishers but all of that is usable in PvE too. PvP needs to make money on its own. So without further ado, my suggestions for PvP Gem Store items:
- Scroll of Past Victories - 1600 gems – Awards player with rank points for victories achieved in Team and Solo Arena prior to December 7th 2013. 300 points for Solo Arena and 800 points for Team Arena. One time use only. Account Bound.
- Ring of Perception - 1200 gems – Wearer of this ring perceives all opponents as humans. Usable only in PvP. Account bound.
(other editions could be possible: Norn – for people that want to fight norns. Asura – for people that want to fight disgusting mutated drowned rats. Etc.)
- Ring of Acrophobia - 1200 – Wearer of this ring will never be placed on the Skyhammer map in competitive tournament play. Usable only in PvP. Account Bound.
There we go, easy 50 bucks. Players get what they want, Anet gets what they want, their NCsoft overlords get what they want. Everybody’s happy.
And maybe if PvP starts making money we get more than 3 updates a year!I’m not really serious.
what ruins skills only pvp – gear progression.
what’s worse then earning your edge through gear grind? earning it by paying cash.
one might as well sell scroll of victory: $1/scroll – gives you 500 points head start per game
Typically, I have great internet, never goes out. The past 3 days, due to very cold weather, i get the occasional hiccup, only lasting mabye 10 minutes. The rest of the day is very stable. In the past 3 days, I lost connection once a day, everytime during a solo arena(the only thing I really play in gw2). Now I have dishonorable for a whole day? What an absurd punishment. This is way beyond what appropriate punishment is for someone who abandons their team. Funny is, I didn’t even purposely abandon the team.
Oh, and in before, if you disconnect twice, mabye take a break. To counter that, I say, I have to ban myself for 3 days which is the reset for dishonorable stacks, to avoid a 1 day pvp ban? This and the people who actually agree and think this is fine absolutely disgusts me.
I generally can deal with most things that sometimes don’t seem appropriate in mmos, but this is where is crosses the line.
sry your internet is bad, but without this dc would be manipulative player’s way out of difficult spot. you decided to play with poor connection, responsibility is yours. to keep this choice of your safe, anet shouldnt open hole in players commitment to complete the match.
if you ditch games over such rules, i doubt youll ever stick to any good one
(edited by gesho.9468)
shadowstep+steal is legit, isnt it? you lose shadwstep back too. its reward for risk.
Let me get this straight.
If someone does not remove the poison before the heal, even if it is applied during the heal (which happens quite often with choking gas), it is braindead and deserves to get stomped, so it deserves less healing compared to a warrior which sits into choking gas the whole time without triggering cleansing ire once or using berserker stance a single time.Your logic leaves me speechless.
lol, what are you playing, ele?
some builds dont have access to healing other then healing skill itself, or trait procs.
Meet me in king of the hill, i will ask r? and backstab you from 3k range while you type.
can sone enlighten newbie how can backstab land from 3k range? are we talking thief’s trap? whats the magic?
Were concerning to me. He said something along the lines of “we cant nerf healing signet that much because it will have a lower HPS than healing surge and then be useless”.
This concerns me because it shows that there is a disconnect between how they see the game being played and how it is played.
+1
nothing in the game has that much hps even at high skill and risk, and this one is top hps for passive, just need to be logged in. im very surprised to see warrior with such strong healing. say in wow healing was always dire for melee control classes, like rogues or even warriors. here warrior gets dps, control, armor and also healing. play-wise you can hammer melee and range bow dps probably just below ranger. warrior is superior in every type of engagement, what is supposed to be counter?
poison argument is also valid. in skilled play, if one is tracking healing skills cd and times poison, one can chop entire 33%. with signet you only chop prorated portion of poison uptime and even for poison rich builds (condi engi) its not continuous, not to say some builds have no access to poison at all.
No, it needn’t have a meta.
When entering a match, assign each player a random class with random weapon/s, random utilities, a random rune set and random traits.
No more meta.
That actually sounds pretty good casual fun (although i would at least like to select my class).
that could be a good game mode. especially if assignment is of entire random build (not individual skills). and with some appropriation so that both sides have glassy/bunky combo. would earn you multiclass leaderboard. and save game from #1 auto-heroes.
in sc2 ppl play under random race.
i love engi above all other profs in this game, but ill tell in which way it is spammy: engi doesnt have this single huge cd or skill, which is make or break for him, like backstab for thief. so it isnt building to one challenging cast. instead he has number of smaller guns and because of multiple kits, can rotate through them frequently. like bomb #2 and #3, nades #2 and #5. these are far from skillless, they are some of the hardest casts to land, no easier then thief backstab or ele fire grub. eg phantasm swordsmen and pistol phantasm are far skillless. to say nothing of #1 ranger auto-heroes.
so… you decide how you call it and whether you like it.
here i offer humble opinion to anyone who would listen to someone who couldnt start the topic by stating his glamorous rank.
dont shove your opinion upon us with your rank, that’s as poor of an opener as lightning ride for ele.
dont stomp your feet demanding buffs and nerfs else quitting the game. no one is that important. put facts if you have any. what, we are supposed to mess up the game, just to keep you sweet and not to quit?
this is what i have to say about ventaris thread.
