wouldnt work. rule cant distinguish when you stood idle and when you were team-fighting on it.
If they are always playing their ele their mmr will account for the ele penalty. Stop harassing people for playing the game. Why do bullies always think they are the persecuted ones?
+1
honestly, when video game turned in so much of a cut-throat.
also, get a team, or accept random queue rules. random are called so for a reason. as long as one is not trying to sabotage/afk deliberately, any choices are a game.
i like downed state. otherwise team fights would change, become way more hectic (they already are).
+1 ranger pet is too much
dunno what the point of this video. i can always make a specific two builds where one would trump the other to ground. so what?
give him a break, he plays 24 hours a day. let him make at least a forum thread out of it.
lol

yeah, i do NOT like skill point lock either.
of many pros and cons for gw2 the crucial PRO for me was insta access pvp, without having to grind to become viable. locked skills are small step in very wrong direction for me.
this are fine theoretical concepts, bur what should we (or anyone) do when you have
1 x r 70
2 x r50,
4 x r30
4 x r20
1 x r1
in queue, and thats all you have?
ps: kitten fixes like “bring kitten balance” and “fix pvp” all been said and archieved.
google oprah: one can always engeneer fouls, but overall this would address significant issue with imo little risk and cost. against a small likelihood that some critical process is interrupted, one gets a way fairer game. mind, even if one provokes re-balancing, what’s left is still an even match. and chances that you will kick out that single opponent is 1 out of 5. also, there could be 10-15sec grace period, wchich woyld allow completing most of tasks underway.
Wait, so a random player gets benched in the starting area and can’t leave? What are they supposed to do, get bored and go AFK (worsening the problem)? No offense but that’s…dumb.
It’s far better if the everyone is simply returned to the front of the queue (high priority) if someone is AFK or disconnected shortly before the round starts.
World Of Warcraft did this back in 2009 with their 5-man dungeon finder system and it’s still working fine today. Ready check happens shortly before it begins, if everyone isn’t ready then all players are returned to the front of the queue.
A proper 5v5 is worth waiting the extra few seconds in queue for.
of course 1 better get bored for a minute instead of 4 ppl quitting the game for good. and btw, can leave and join other game, if really impatient.
what if when 4v5 one player would be placed in starting area, couldnt leave before similarly other team gets s’one too? he would be earning points as the rest of the team (eg average) but cant fight. certainly with all aware that this is not afk. if s’one joins the other side, both can join the fight.
would this fix 4v5? for it is one of the top concerns now.
this isnt moba. pls keep gw2 combat the way it is.
dont slow it down. and not everything is always tractable, do in real fight you always know what and when hits you? sometimes you rely on overall intuition, play blind and lose or win.
+1 sticky. I was just thinking that there is no decent strategy/tactics guide, just build reviews
Part of the reason we have been stuck in this kittenty meta for so long is because all of the top tier teams left and all that was left were mediocre teams playing around with the exact same meta that was left by those that came before them.
lol
I’ve never thought of it (not privy to elites, who left and who didnt
), but there might be truth to it.
There has been no theorycrafting in this game since spirit rangers and hambow warriors were discovered.
Where was this happening before? On the web I’ve never seen any numbers :eldacar_of_gw2:
i’m also against locked skills. this is half kitten attempt to cater to those who need progression. this are people who want progression in everything.
for example they want prestige – and that is something anet should give them in all possible disguises. if leaderboards are not enough, give them titles, appearance, spot on the balcony, whatever.
but they also want progression in power, which anet should NOT give them. they want where if you spend your live in game 24/7 you can 1shot the rest, where you create a closed circle, barrier to which is reinforced by those progression criteria. like honor/arena gear divide in wow. this situation i believe is a bad game and as far as i can imagine – bad business. locked skills are minor example of latter. bad.
i dont think this will work in any way. where is damage is going to come from? static discharge – just look at numbers, its nowhere enough for anything. even if you constantly mash belt tools, its about 13 uses /minute (0*F1+6*F2+4*F3+3*F4), which is 66dps /single target (13*305/60). this is a joke in comparison to bombs, grenades or even elGun. and you want those belt tools for their effects, not just sd trigger.
poor cleansing too. in sPVP this build is nowhere.
i think people misunderstood him, hes saying that engi as a class has access to too many things. not as a player how hard or easy it is to play…
it has average access to many abilities, but is surpassed in every aspect by one class or another. every game has such class and every game has an opinion that jack of all trades is good at everything in hands of good player and master of nothing at hands of poor player. imo, this is fair.
what about ele.
ele has that feature too, but still, it feels different. ele, if temporarily (attunement cd) is stuck in one mode, and for that gets a prize of being superior in that stance. like burst damage, stronger heal/cleansing, etc. i like both concepts, though currently i’m sticking to engi more. but i like to play more ele too.
i always liked this idea, jack of all trades, adapting to situation, defining the nature of combat and hitting enemy where he is weakest. i played druid in wow. but there it didn’t work in pvp (possibly cause i stubbornly stick to balance druid, while cat build was strong in arena). but here engi is sort of working, and that’s great.

isn’t condi engi a dream presence for necro?
isn’t condi engi a source of necro damag with all the flipping?
and isn’t necro condi engi’es strongest counter?
is this topic real?
I don’t remember the last western MMO I’ve played without a Health & Resource bar on enemy nameplate, actually. I don’t think many people consider endurance to be ‘cooldown status’, to be honest.
it (endurance) is certainly not health/resource type asset. if anything, its much more close to a cooldown/resource on one certain spell (dodge).
its very unusual for video game to give access to enemy’s inner status. cooldown status, etc. that’s players job to tracks.
i dont care that much about healing skill. but creating a viable healer build – that would be big.
Yea, cause throwing junk at each other to win a match is the epitome of big plays. Hey, dw, you cant understand what you cannot do. Ignorance is bliss.
But if you really understand tpvp, you know that every action executed is simply the most logical thing to do. 450-250? Okay you know you need to contest all 3 nodes, there is no alternative. The node play is always straight forward, either you are better at the combat so you win, or you are worse so you lose. Sometimes a team is tactically better but usually its straight forward.
So yes, while I am sure GW2 tpvp games have come “close” before and been “tense” that was not what I was pointing out. What I was pointing out was a big play, a display of intelligence and execution that turns around a match entirely. Something you will never get in tpvp, even if a player wins a 1v2 to secure a match, that wasnt “intelligent” it was just better combat execution. There is a significant difference between being smart and being good. To play GW2 you do not need to be smart, just good at your class then run to the obvious nodes. There is little capacity to outsmart the enemy which is why by extension this games skill cap was not high enough to develop into esports.
Your above assumptions very well demonstrate your motivation. No one said lord rush happened from 499-250. And before throwing junk, there must have been a pretty hard fight which got both players downed. But if one already has his mind set, why twist the experience, I give you lol wholeheartedly, you don’t have to convince me.
When you fight gw2, it does feel like for real. And not just any fight, but your dream fight, where you are a supermen, assassin, mad scientist and magician, you can fly and you can port. You can do anything you could ever dreamed for.
But wait, you prefer pixilated 2d chess better? What can I say, go for it buddy. As they say: “That which is falling should also be pushed”.
btw, watch vocabulary. If you choose your spells like you choose your words – then yeah, flat game suits you better.
build templates with anet offering some “starter builds” would help to break away from hype driven meta.
Well, i used to a strong gw2 supporter, really, it was like the dream game for me (at its early times), and i used to dislike mobas alot, actually i still dont like moba’s playstyle…. yet…. i quit gw2 like a month ago and i’m playing LoL now :|
good luck to you. i posted my lol impressions above
80k twitch view got many blinded for no good reason. i’ll be stretching some, but LOL to me seems like 2d flat game, slow enough to have a feel of pixilated chess turn based game, where most of expertise is memorizing skills of various heroes. some might call this skill, id call it a grind. pvp skills is something else imo.
but ofcourse “buzz/publicity” is necessary for a build to become popular. Like literally everyone knows thief is gonna be dead come dec.10 so noone plays it even though S/D is still viable right now.
that’s he whole question, isnt it? will it be dead, or “everyone knows” so.
also, often argument goes: “you wont see xxx in competitive play”. but then this mistakenly translates in viable/non-viable label, which is not a valid implication.
i noticed (in hotjoins) that once the dec 10 patch was announced suddenly im getting way more mesmers and eles, while thievs disappeared. part of this could be ppl practicing in expectation of buffs or quitting in expectation of nerfs. but i also wonder, how much of meta is created by buzz, instead of actual mechanics.
twitch is dominated by couple of players who are set in their opinions. so are tournies. is it possible that opinion of few players dominates spvp and we are missing on richer actual game that is out there?
anet pointed to warrior example several times. it was there for a while, but only after cc promoted warrior in after-pax interview suddenly it “became” op overnight.
Fortunately, you rarely have to. A meta engineer meeting a meta necro on a sidepoint for a 1v1 doesn’t actually happen that often.
Elixir C has a cast time and cannot be used while under a cc effect. It is a nice skill that will undo one mistake vs. a necro (i.e. eating a signet of spite or corrupt boon) but that’s it. It’s the flips that are so hard to deal with.
If I’m in a tournament match, there’s no way I’ll let myself fall into a 1v1 with a necro (if I’m playing a meta build, that is…power builds and my awkward homemade bunker builds do pretty well vs. necros). It would be worse than a spirit ranger assaulting far point against a hammer warrior.
Sometimes I’ll do 1v1s vs. necros in hotjoins for practice. I’ll smoke bomb—>shield+acid leap to open from stealth, shamelessly blow supply crate off the bat, and try to keep them cc’d for the entire fight. If they’re not bad, they’ll use ds/spectral armor and then even after blowing them up at the start of the fight I’ll have to kite/los for my life.
:D
i cant even play with normal people, whatever i do it end up with 3ppl who is r1 r4 r6?
its the same over and over how the hell do i get back where i was if the whole team wont do anything right
is 1 man gonna carry the rest?
how about opposing team? was it all r60?
(for LoL)
The day anybody makes such a big play in GW2 is the day we might be moving on towards “esports”.
remove hype, hugging, tournament backdrop and cameras (that is, leave pvp part of it) and you’ll realize you’ve seen just as exciting games in gw2 many times. have you gotten beaten at 498 points by enemy rushing to the boss? or 499-499 with three contested points being settled on two downed states throwing junk at each other?

they both are fun to play, id try both (and more) and see which one you like. i would not worry about what “high lvl pvp” does at this point.
id try all profs/builds and go with the one which I like most. there is a sticky on the top of this forum, there are a lot of builds to try through.
i dont mind paper, scissors rock. id love to see this ideall world, where each class have different gameplay, and each can win against each, both 1vq 1 or equally good at teamfight, equally good at capping, killing, etc, etc, but this strategy of equality in everything quickly becomes unreallistic. else its all homogenised, one class with different avatars and spell names. if anything, id like more of it.
universally (or against significant majority of builds) op is a problem (warrior), but rock paper scissor is fine.
No. It’s impossible to apply conditions to an engineer using the trait when he’s below about 4500 health. The trait does not remove any conditions, so any conditions that hit the engineer while he was above 4500 health will continue to tick away.
It’s kind of goofy, really. The engineer is at a massive disadvantage vs. a necro most of the time, but a single trait turns the tables at 25% health. It’s not exactly hard for a necro to chain fear an engineer from about 30%-0%, but it does make necro/engi fights pretty strange. I’d trade AR away in a heartbeat (which is easy for me to say, since I don’t use it) for a better matchup between the two professions overall.
how bout elixir c on the top of it? is el c available when feared?
how do u 1v1 necros with condi engi?
does engi AR have internal cooldown?

There’s no doubt that soloq and hotjoins are immensely more popular than team queues. I don’t have the data to access the actual ratios, but if the criteria is: “Unique accounts that play at least once every week” – I’d peg “Players who PvP but don’t play Team Queues” to “Players who also play Team Queues” it 100:1. Of course I’m really ignorant to the actual stats, like everyone is.
In the extremely casual landscape of PvP in all it’s forms, (Hotjoin, Solo, Team), we’re seeing a shrinking player base for the competitive mode – Team queues. That’s just because we have created a casual landscape and that’s retained casual players. It’s much more fun to play Solo queues and Hotjoins casually. Simple!
well, if thats the case, thats not necessarily a bad thing, is it? im a casual player, i play about an hour a day, pretty much all of it in pvp, almost all – hotjoins. i plan to move soloq when i learn more (r 24 currently), but i lll never have time for regular team.
just tried lol. cant imagine sone going to lol after gw2.
id like to learn some more about significance of these numbers. id hate to keep learning the game only to discover it dead before long.
what are numbers needed to keep spvp alive? are above 800 players enough? is this compensated by solo or hotjoin volume?
if there is any reassuring arguments, devs please make them public. else silence points to rumored demise of gw2 spvp being true.
im not gaming pro, but which other pvp would you point superior to gw2?
LoL is esport
it is, but is it good pvp?
im not gaming pro, but which other pvp would you point superior to gw2?
Farmville.
still haven’t heard any names.
im not gaming pro, but which other pvp would you point superior to gw2?
+1 hotjoins
im casuall pvp only player. my entire r24 is through hotjoins
lol, how about you folks just click “i win” button from opening. perma stealth capping points in gw2, which is all about capping?
i wonder if matching algo has mixing or uniform feature in it. eg
if there are 10 players r50 and 10 players r10 in the queue pool, will it group
version 1 uniform
(r50 x 5) vs (r50 x 5)
(r10 x 5) vs (r10 x 5)
or
version 2 mixed
(r50x3 + r10x2) vs (r50x3 + r10x2)
(r50x2+ r10x3) vs (r50x2+ r10x3)
i see pro and con in each, but being r20 myself (and interested in learning from more experienced players), i’d rather have v2.
While I wait for my tournament queue to pop I like playing hotjoin. But when it pops the game is not over yet and I dont get any reward for playing, do I?
So in the end I can only stand in the mists and stare 20 minutes on the wall.
Thanks.
Actually, there is some fairness in it. You left the rest of the team imba and they’ll have hard time. This is often a problem for those who play hotjoins regularly (like me), tourny players hopping in and out. Hotjoins are meant to be in and out (even by choice of name), but there should be difference between regulars and dabblers.
If you want glory – take a full ride, if you’re just messing – no rewards.
Would be fun if ante brings dev characters in one of future living world story updates.
I support this new feature.
Now, are enemy icons always visible, or only if there is a friendly player near them? Couple of times it felt as if it was only when someone on our side was in the vicinity (or engaged). I would not make enemy visible on the map unless they are engaged with our team.
ok, so you say “for the duration of its anumation”. which, according to wiki is 0.75sec? one sort of has 0.75 evade boon (and 300u movement)?
Just writing down 10th december patch notes and people already went crazy.
Played some games in solo q ( note, high end solo q) and all i see is bunkerish builds ( guard-war-engi-spirit ranger) with a necro here and there.
And they’re nerf hammering the thief LOL.
just sayin’
i noticed that too. guardians appear. and mesmers too.
interestingly guardians are effective in my experience. may be they were around all these time, just needed a war cry (as in upcoming patch news)?
but how does this evade work? there is no boon right (say unlike thief #3). does it have some duration?
