just to be sure: dodge does not give you some sort of evade buff, it is just meant to get you out of range. is that right?
I mostly use “Play now”, sometimes without even entering mists
Thank you @Nevir
is there any youtube for casting telegraphs? I’ve seen one for warrior, but that’s all.
wouldn’t be great if there was one with commentary from skilled player?
Thanks. I’ll try enhanced performance and Sigil of battle part of it (there was also something that extends the might duration?), but probably not hgh part. I prefer two weapon slots and one elixir only.
Thank you, that is helpful.
Okay, another one: when blind becomes effective, in terms of enemy casting? Should it be before casting? Or in the middle? How about those enemy skills which pulsate?
There used to be a good page in wiki about cast time and phases of it, can not find it now.
ive been listening to some eggs and says stimes runs with 25 stack. well this will be a killing machine, but with all rng, combat randomness etc, how much might does one gets on average? also, if you do this, looks like everything is subordinated to this goal: choice of traits, slot elixirs, sigils… is this choice killing the fun of combat mechanics?
says field lingers 4 sec. is blind reapplied as long as one is in it, or one needs to enter/exit? i’ve been tracking enemy blinds and not sure. stimes they are up all the time, stimes not sure.
…………..Engineers. Really I am sad they intend to buff engi healing which is almost impossible to counter and so skilless and lame. Let us think about the lamo engi bunker builds:
really?
healing turret is skill-less?
Why do you have the trait “infused precession” (III) in the fire arms line? Its is not going to do much for you in in your build. You would be much better off going for the 20% weapons cool down reduction trait.
swiftness is always useful, isn’kitten you always try to get away or catch up. with elixir gun (and I’m thinking of adding grenades) you need to keep the some distance. so….
as for weapon cooldown, for elixir gun shorter cooldown wont do much. main damage is from autoattack (exciting). #5 healing is not that important, since I have regen from alchemy#9 anyway.
I tried that build yesterday, not too crazy about it.
Despite the highish condi damage (1490), your build lacks condi variety and application. Elixir gun is a pretty defensive kit, and Tool kit offers more utility and defense than damage. So in practice, most opponents will clear your condis faster than you can apply meaningful pressure, since you are mostly relying on pistol for the incendiary powder procs.
Another weakness is that you lack condi clear. I wouldn’t grab Elixir H heal outside of HGH builds, healing turret is just so much better, especially when you learn not to blow it up all the time.
If you like condi and you feel like experimenting with different builds, give Ostrich Eggs’ build a go. It’s a very solid combo of survivability and damage.
Build here: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIq6ZHxSfF17IyoCdmoH5nlpffewWyFEC-ToAAzCpI0SplTLjWStsaNWYKC
Unfortunately grenades are just too good to pass up currently, so if you want to kill people in sPvP with engi and not just play CC/bunker, you kind of have to use them.
well, played tonight we elixir gun and tool kit. we won some and lost some. overall, i dont think ill stick to this build. it was no powerhouse and frankly bit boring. even rifle would be more fun. essentially elixir gun #1 auto.
with grenades, enemy does not see circles, do they? i guess one would start with #4 (larger radius) and once chilled, go for #5, #2. and then swap to different weapon before cooldowns come back?
with ostrich build, bombs are for bunker build, right? also, how come condi build has all traits in power? i see that traits are fit, but stats? and also, with grenades in range and bombs in melee, i dont quite sure i see how id carry combat, kiting or catching up. prob should search some youtubes.
yes, you are right about elixir gun +15% dmg, regen is better.
and thx for the bleed tip, that wont work then
I’m not crazy about grenades. only in bigger fights. are they viable in small, 1v1 fights? nobody’s staying in those circles.
okay, so elixir C? cause now with egun I got tool belt breaker. well, I guess I can use belt invisibility+tool kit #4 block as my panic buttons, instead of elixir S.
now about hgh. i’m about to try this with dummy golem, but isnt hgh about elixirs that you drink/toss only? that is, elixir gun skills wont count to it?
overall, thx buddy, you’ve been very helpful.
ok, i’ve been talking to folks in engi forum too, how does this look for condi engi?
p/s + elixir + tool kit
~1.5k condi dmg
alchemy #9 vs #7 is a touch choice, when elixir gun in main weapon. may be I should get both and drop protective shield in inventions?
ok, with all of that, how does this look like? skillset is down, im also attaching screenshot for traits.
There are two ways to use the flamethrower in my mind. One, as your main weapon. In this case you are using Juggernaut and as much might stacking gear/traits as you can get. Two, as a utility. You only pop into it for the fire field when you need it, AOE blind, or knockback. Sometimes #2 burst damage if the opportunity arises.
As utility it fits in any build IMO. As your main weapon, I would only use it in a power build.
I guess elixir gun trumps flamethrower then.
I looked at numbers, elixir gun is pretty decent with full condi stat (~1.3k), on par with rifle. but rifle crit still leaves condi behind.
rifle #1 is ~600 in zerker build, with ~50% crit chance and say 30% crit damage this is about 850dmg/0.75sec=1130 dps
elixir gun #1 with 1.3k condi damage makes about 600dmg/0.75sec=800dps
rifle autoattack ends up about +50% above elixir gun. pistol #1 is even further behind.
doesn’t look like other skills would look any better. jump shot and blunderbuss with crit hit 2-3k easily.
this is prob compensated by condi hp having about the same +50% larger hp then zerker rifle. so its kinda on par?
Skill #3 on the FT does not apply burning. It increases any burning you have already applied on your target by the indicated amount. I’m surprised they didn’t fix that tooltip with all the work they did on tooltips.
Also if you want to do conditions, go full conditions. In sPvP this means choosing Rabid amulet and Runes of the Undead for starters. You could tweak the runes around a bit, but that combo gives the most condition damage in sPvP. Also make sure you go as deep as your build permits into the Firearms tree.
wow, thx for #3 tip.
are you saying flamethrower is viable for condi spvp?
elixir gun – maybe, haven ttried it much. but how one makes grenades to work in spvp is beyond me. i only use them in hughe pile-ups, when i can shower them somewhere from top. but who would stand in small or 1v1 fights in those circles?
here is my question: is flamethrower viable in condi build? in engi formu they say its a power weapon, but when i look at tooltips, it has a lot of burns (main, #1 hard to land through)
so u know the actual server implementation and has revisited the gamecode and know possible solutions how to implement in tune with possible future design to come to that conclusion?
do you think i would ever post on video game forum without al least having done all of above prep work?
i dont believe u are a programmer or have glue of programming and the sourcecode of gw2-server and client and know the future design plans of arena-net that would fit into your implementation. if so, that would mean u are a anet-dev.. so go and do your work!
lol, if this was a topic about our individual characters, I could say that you lack social skills to carry (or even observe) conversation and by looks of it, at any topic. where any idea is torpedoed under requirement of extreme competence. but i wont say that, as i wont say that you have no clue about my competence in programming. in fact i dont see any need to add anything to what i have already said.
cast your vote ppl. i love p/s, but i see most engies running with rifle. is pistol subpar?
below is roughly my pistol build. and i usually get burst down before my condis work.
they sit out my tool #3 confusion. flamethrower #1 burning is hard to land. and my power damage is half of theirs, often less then that. in the end, i’m down and they walk.
i try to let conditions work, while magnetic shield inverts their ranged auto attaches.
i try fire combo with pistol #1 for burning.
but then rifle comes at me with jump shot and blunderbuss, 2k here, 3k there, 1k autoattack and i’m gone.
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqOlspyaH5SfNkAkCAoXA-TcAg1Eap0yplRLpWWtA
but now looking again at flamethrower, is it a power weapon? it has more damage on condi. #1 and #3 has burning, #4 I use with pistol #1 for burning combo.
true #1 burning is hard to land. and #2 (I love that blast) is only power. but still…
@coglin
I agree on many counts.
You are right about sitting out confusions and me doing damage, but for instance I had a thief yesterday, who went in stealth and quiet once I got 5-6 confusions on him, so that’s wasted. I also had a hunter, who slowed me and went out of my range and quiet. I agree, it’s not supposed to work on all classes guaranteed, but most specs seem to find a way to disengage and sit out confusion. I try not to pull it off in the beginning of combat, may be in the middle, in the heat of fight enemy will notice it less, but still, most players do notice it.
from what you said, I believe flamethrower is my main problem. its not fitting in condi build. also I pick traits for flamethrower, but those don’t have condi stats.
I like tool kit and it has big confusions on #3. what else should I use, elixir gun? I’m not much fond of bombs and bunking. I use grenades sometimes in big fights when you can shower from above, but it’s small and 1v1 fights that I’m most eager to win.
below is my build (roughly, i have exact screenshot on home comp). now that I look at it, it’s sort of smudge between power and condi and I get both lackluster.
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-VRw;0B-Z-Vv0l6cQFx0;9;49JJJ-4;027-47-46;2Kc0;3cV19cV197BR
thx for feedback, but still… as condi pistol i have trouble with
- burst. my condis take time, meanwhile i’m dead;
- i love confusion. but beyond newbies enemy notices when i land significant stack (like tool kit #3) and sits it out;
- bleed and poison is often already stacked on enemy and i’m just waisting my time.
- this only leaves me with burning. i get some burning, including using fire field comb on pistol #1. but burning not quite consistent. for instance flamethrower #1 burning is not easy land;
- i love flamethrower, but is it more for power, or condi?
- i get around 1k condi damage in my build stats, is that enough?
maybe i need to improve my build? use elixir gun? i’m not too fond of bombs in pvp, i dont bunker. i’ll post my build later. thx for helping.
title says it. pistol+shield (with condi damage stats) is my fav (in spvp). with flamethrower and tool kit. but from what I see rifle power build outperforms pistol shield condi build.
i’d love to have pistol shield power build, but as i understand its is not meant to, is it? pistol is for condi? direct damage is higher on rifle. merely #1 rifle significantly outperforms pistol. with blunderbuss and jump shot there is no comparison between the two.
i guess in terms of damage rifle is more fun, it is the shield part that i miss.
bouncing projectiles back to hunters and thiefs. and holding melee with static sheild (tool kit #4 is my consolation for this one).
if condi damage would deliver, pistol shield is decent, but somehow rifle direct damage does it better. whats your experience ppl?
so u know the actual server implementation and has revisited the gamecode and know possible solutions how to implement in tune with possible future design to come to that conclusion?
do you think i would ever post on video game forum without al least having done all of above prep work?
this has been talked about, including recent sotg. why isn’t this done? shouldn’t be hard technically. i dont see any other way of finding the balance and avoiding glitched op specs, other then testing them through actual combat by large number of skilled players.
what’s anet’s position on this?
i’ve played wow for couple of months and then switched to gw2 since past spring. one thing i notice, is how volatile gw2 meta is. devs say they move by increments, but still, meta changes completely. yesterday it was 8 necros, today its all hunters, and so it goes.
do you think absence of dedicated healers contributes to difficulty for balanced game? with damage alone, even tiny disparity in damage accumulates over the course of combat towards one guy going down.
I am (engi) happy with current meta, prob just warrior shaved a little.
Ranger: AI spirits
Mesmer: AI clones
Necromaner: AI minions (+endless spamming of condis)
Thief: ?
Warrior: endless spamming of CC
Engineer: endless spamming of condis
Guardian: ? defense all the way! … I mean …. what else, right?
Ele: kitten ele, he doesnt have condis or evasions or AI
Anet: ESPORTZZZZZZ!!!!!!
looks like diverse class list. but wait, you mean this as something bad?
i like skyhammer. i wouldnt mind couple of rails here and there (a little too much of jumping puzzle), but with that toned down, i’m fine with it. really makes you think about positioning.
i’m just curios, if any of this miraculously was indeed to happen, how much qq will be there for skill-less pve crowd ruining hotjoins and solos
thief can perma stealth which gives him … nearly nothing.
just move around randomly, dodge once in a while and spam aoe here and there. they won’t backstab you and if they do – only from face, which is way weaker. and then they are yours for 4 sec at least (revealed), for they gave up A LOT of build for that single stab.
i play thief (and engi), and tried perma stealth, but while you can do it, it is not meant to be the thief mechanic (while there are other, indeed good options). its a very clanky, ineffective play and ultimately mitigated by enemy. play thief a little bit and i doubt you’ll complain about this again.
It’s funny that you put the words “community improvement” in the thread title, because I think that’s precisely what needs to happen.
Look at where we are now, how negative we are as a community about things. Who would want to join us? Who would want to add stuff to this part of the game given the reactions to it?
To the players who don’t sPvP, they’re going to see a bunch of miserable people and not want a part of it. To the devs who are deciding where resources go, they’re going to see a bunch of people who will never be satisfied with anything, so why give them anything?
I’ve been turning over the idea in my head for a while that the one thing the community can do, regardless of what the state of the game is or what’s going on in development, is that the community could focus on what’s good and fun about this game, because it is good and it is fun.
The other improvements will come. Especially if the community grows rather than actively tries to scare everyone away from itself. We could be doing so much freakin’ more to promote the sPvP format than we are and I think that’s where we as a community should be focusing. That’s one of the big things “killing” sPvP: our own toxicity.
+1
honestly, who’d like to join this whine fest.
when Evan logs in on his warrior his alts are so jealous that they ping his location to enemy team. Evan, knowing nothing about this, offered following explanation to the balancing board of directors: warrior needs a buff, for it is really focus magnet now. each time i enter the map, entire enemy team miraculously piles up on me right out of the gate.
i want to apologize for all the pain i have caused to devs, server and also to my parents. and i want to apologize to my neighbour for spilling my soda cup on their lawn when it was late at night i thought nobody could see.
ps: and i want to apologize to my teammate blondie.
thx for tips ppl. I switched movement to kbd, spells and targeting to naga. was bad, but its improving now. i guess this is more effective, at least for gw2. though pulling combos takes some finger wriggling.
I wish naga had 5×3 buttons (instead of 4×3)
Well I have many times where I cannot understand what is going on at a team fight and have to resort to spam. And I have played alot of GW2, have had 2 accounts in the top 10 on solo q (at the same time). Currently have 2 accounts in the top 100, win about 65-70% of my solo q matches. So if EVEN I sometimes have to resort to spamming on a point then what chance do other players have?
I dont feel that bad about my game now.
Most of the time all that register is a flux of rainbow flushes. I’m luck if I get to target low hp guy.
yeah…
gotta relearn…
so, which way do you folks do it? I have movement on naga, spells on keyboard. I’ve been playing like this from the beginning (few month now). but sometimes it feels other way around, movement on keyboard, spells on naga would be more effective. i tried it and was hard to relearn, but I could try again if it would make difference.
lool, it was fun. i got there (on the top of C) and grenaded down away. yay.
wait wait…let me put this throgh photoshop filters. i think i see morph of moa telegraph, i might need my blind.
thx folks, ill try this tonight
great, thx, im going to try getting on the top of the arch tonight.
watch out chaotic kitten (that was the mesmer yester)!
in general its good to go ranged against mesmer, right? as d/p+sb thief? may be start from range, try to kill illusions with SB aoe and then steal in and finish (or be finished
) with dagger in melee?
thx ppl. I though scepter/dagger+staff would be good.
i pve’d some to learn spells, ill try it in mists tonight. it seemed a little routinish (i thief and engi for main) but we’ll see.
few things i noticed so far:
in staff 3+4 would b a combo to go for?
in scepter one should hit with #3 only after firing all condis?
anything else to watch for? still figuring skills behind shroud.
i watched and was helpful in term of general mechanics. but if you want this for educ, i’d add some notes to video. what is general gameplay in terms of keeping distance. what are necro combos and rotation. what are thief telegraphs to watch for. with that kind of commentary it could be super useful. especially if you add those as captions to video itself. could be some work, but that kind of library prob would be most valuable asset ppl can learn from.
i agree that thief seemed somewhat apathic, mostly running in distance while necro kept hitting from range. if learning to fight thief, need to know what to do when they get in your face.
After I got some requests to do a video like this I talked to Ventari to play some duels vs a good thief and after some wins and losses I uploaded these duels to show you guys how you can win against a S/D thief as a condi necro
Now i thought about making this a series where you guys can tell me in the comments or here on the forum which class-matchups you want to see because you have a hard time fighting a certain class.
I will then invite top players to duel these classes- Leave a like and subscribe for more videos like that!
- Tell me in the comments which class match-ups you wanna see next! How To:
Condi Necro vs S/D Thief:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3o2fB_ADjc
mesmer is not my class. but I was so frustrated with them in the beginning that I played (phantasm) for purpose to learn the class to counter. at least i learned to distinguish between illusions and real guy. and to watch out for swordsmen and pistol phantasms.
but yester i fought one in skyhammer, on C spot. I cant count how many times I died. few of those – stood close to edge, got blusted off. ok, my bad.
but then with all the illusions? terrible. those plants getting in my sight, not much to see in that small corner anyway.
I wish I could shortbow (im thief d/p+sb) from distance. can you get on the to of spot C? I’ve seen ppl getting on top of A.
i’m starting to know necro. not as main, but mostly to know the class. i spvp mostly.
scepter/dagger + staff looked good. s/d as main combat, staff when you can afford to stay above the team fight and aoe the hell out.
what would be good spvp weapon set(s)?
video wouldnt open from tablet but it worked fine from pc. good one
im currently running p/s with flamethrower, grenades and elixir S. loving it. but I’m undecided between power and condi. I guess condi should work better for me, since all those skills have some sort of debuff.
i’ve been lvling dp+sb and super good. i use venoms, torment and stimes poison venoms. everything goes down in a blink.
however in spvp i run that build as power and use torment venom (and other condi dmg) as auxiliary.
