A warrior specced in mobility and good pressure damage, but limited cleansing is not mobile at all. Cleansing protects against mobility debilitating attacks. Without decent cleansing, what good is your mobility skills? and without mobility, what good is your offense?

yeah thieves in WvW are quite annoying, they not only get to spam stealth skills, they spam blinds as well. It’s annoying because I don’t even see any timing on their usage of these avoidance abilities, they just spam them in between their attacks.

Mace main hand

Mace+shield is nice, and is especially good at locking down a target. I sometimes use Mace+shield/Rifle in WvW, and try to lure in unsuspecting melee players (heck, even rangers don’t kite me when they see me approaching with a rifle) into thinking I’m a rifle build, then when they get in close, switch to mace shield, and stun lock them.

The issue I have with mace, or any control based weapon on the warrior, is, it only usually takes the enemy a utility skill to nullify your plan of attack, and with control weapons having zero mobility, you end up unable to keep the pressure. Meanwhile, your enemy may have an attack or combination of attacks that you HAVE to dedicate a whole build for, as a warrior.

PvE, I feel great playing a warrior, and I don’t even run full zerker(I probably should, but eh, hammer is just fun and kinetic). In WvW, it’s not so much as ‘underpowered’, as it is ‘incomplete’ for me. What I mean is, the tools that I work with, they’re pretty good, but I don’t have enough tool mixup to cover all my bases.

well if it’s spvp, you can play with whatever you like, no need to invest time or grind for anything. If it’s for WvW, warriors can be deceptively good, since you’re not really dealing with highly skilled opponents, so you’ll have your moments there.

Shout healing is good group support? Did they delete Elementalists and Guardians this patch as well?

So in soldier’s gear you would be getting a lil over a thousand health per shout? Sounds terrible.

I think after launch shouts were doing 2k heals or so then that was nerfed into the ground.

Yeah, I raced to 80 during the 3 day headstart, and I was a shout healing Soldier/Cleric setup, running dungeons, mostly. The heals where about 2.5k and the shout cooldowns were shorter as well.

I don’t think they have changed ever. The reason you got 2k is because you used cleric armor. You can still get 2k if you use it.

I don’t even remember it on any patch notes, but it changed.

I remember clearly having 17 seconds CD (traited) per FGJ and Shake it Off, and healing me for around 2k-2.5k.. That same setup now heals me for 1.8k-2k. This was very early after launch, when “On My Mark” was “I Will Avenge You”.

Did the dungeon for the first time, I didn’t find it hard at all, but it was quite fun, and you had to be quick on your feet, which is why I enjoyed it. Our group was me (tanky warrior, mace+shield/longbow, because mobs hit hard and constantly), thief, necro, mesmer and ele. All of them seem like glass cannon, the ele had a bit of a hard time, but smooth run all through out.

I’ve never tried full cleric set, but I have tried full cleric accessories, with PVT+solider armor. It’ doesn’t make a whole lot of difference in survivability or sustainability, but your power will be a bit lower.

I don’t see any actual combat in that.

Looks like hes building a build that tries to kill someone before they can kill him, Aka that just proves my point that we have no sustain.

Isn’t that the whole point when fighting someone ?

This.

Warrior has access to some pretty solid sustain mechanics. You get a shield block that can become op as heck if you trait it (gain might per block, reflection over the duration), your healing signet gives you perma regeneration (on top of any you come across; in no way am I suggesting it is the best heal, just saying its there) and you have access to a ‘take no damage’ skill via Endure pain, which there is a trait to use automatically (even if the first utility is on cooldown) at low hp. Oh and another signet that increases your endurance gain, with the active of wiping ALL conditions. There is plenty of staying power on a warrior if you actually use it. And I didn’t even mention all the interrupts you have access to between weaponsets and utilities.

Oh, and just messing around theory crafting, warriors can achieve the highest effective health that I’ve found at 52k effective health. OHHHH right and you can also hit 4k armor (min-maxing, dont expect much damage if you go that route, though Sword/Board with 4k armor and a MasterTuningCrystal/condition dmg food in WvW/PvE could use a test ride).

Ok, I’m gonna put this into the context of making a build, rather than nitpicking skills and traits and calling it a day.

This is based on your proposed ‘sustainable warrior’ setup.

Shield for offhand, might on block, reflection, at least 10 points discipline, 10 points defense.

Healing signet for heals.

Endure pain

Signet of Endurance

Interrupts in weapon and utility, so, hammer, and bull’s charge, I’m guessing. You also proposed sword for the condition damage, plus condition damage foods.

Ok, traits.

Strength – 15 points for Restorative Strength (sustainability and all that)
Arms – 10 points (for the suggested condition damage alternate sword/shield)
Defense – 30 for Missile Deflection, Merciless Hammer, Defy Pain
Tactics – 0
Discipline – 15 for Mighty Defenses and fast weapon swap

This is supposed to be focused on survivability so PVT gear with either Melandru or Lyssa Runes, Soldier or Knights trinkets I’m guessing.

Assessment:

Defense:
You have 1 source of heal, Healing Signet, which is quite weak. You have regeneration from it and from Adrenal Health which are also very weak.

You have 2 ways of removing conditions, both have fairly significant cooldowns, and using Healing Signet takes out your regeneration.

You have Endure Pain and Defy Pain, which can be effective against sudden bursts, but does not make you immune to conditions. If you’re burning and bleeding while immobilized/chilled/crippled, this will not protect you, and with little means of removing conditions, this will happen often. You will lose HP and there’s no means of recovering that as Healing Signet won’t cover it.

Shield Stance can be effective against sudden bursts, but any AoE CC (Fear, pull, knockdown) will quickly disable it, decent but not impenetrable. It would be nice to have Balanced Stance, too bad there’s not enough slots.

Offense:
Your ability to maintain survivability and pressure will be low, considering you have very little means to deal with a basic cripple, immobilize, chill, and zero means to deal with knockdowns and knockbacks. Whatever offense you were hoping to bring to the table becomes irrelevant.

I never tried sPvP when I started playing before taking a long break. Now, all I do is WvW and hotjoin sPvP, because the people are chattier and nicer than PvE Dungeon runners, for some reason.

The first time I tried sPvP when I started playing again last week, I braced myself for whatever trakittenalking or plain bad behavior that may come my way, but to my surprise, everyone was just quiet, doing their thing, and when I said it was my first time playing and asked for tips and directions, some of them actually gave tips, even one from the opposing side. Nobody trakittenalked anybody, nobody called out anybody for ‘being a noob’, nobody did emotes to shame a downed player, none of that, everyone just playing, having fun, then ‘gg’ at the end of a match. Quite refreshing, to be honest.

I play in Sanctum or Rall, and a lot of the commanders I see are x/warhorn warriors, but majority of the players I see are mesmers, eles and thieves(specific to roaming groups), good amount of guardians and warriors, then a few necro, rangers and engis. There’s once I roamed with a pretty amazing engineer, but I see them very rarely. If I was going to consider the top prof I see in terms of numbers, I’d say mesmers, and that includes what I see from Jade Quarry(has very strong necros, and in good numbers as well) and Black Gate servers.

Amount of content really isn’t as important as content replayability, if you guys are talking about game longevity.

Which ends up being a matter of taste.

Yeah, so why are you guys counting content as if it means something, I mean, while you guys are at it, why not count the number of varying textures per mesh as content, eh? :p

The amount of content is the amount of content, quite different from the amount of textures. The number of zones, the size of the zones, the amount of “quests” in the zones, whether traditional, hearts or DEs is ALL content.

If you don’t like it, it’s not content FOR YOU. Which changes nothing.

No, I’m going to the most basic form of content, since you guys are counting. And no, textures don’t come out of thin air. It’s just to demonstrate how irrelevant amount of content is towards replayability and overall longevity of a game.

Anyway, OP should really just take a break, see where the game goes (wonders of B2P). I also got very excited about GW2 when I saw the Manifesto Video some years back, and I still like GW2 today, except for ascended stuff and how funneled players are these days. Coming back after taking a long break myself, I also want to see how the game develops, and where the type of community is headed, before I get serious and really invest in the game. In the meantime, WvW keeps me happy.

If we’re tanky, our damage peaks at 2500 on a crit. If we’re DPS, then we’re hitting, but we’re dying fast.

I hope you enjoy that 2500 crit in tank gear. When I go bunker on my engi the most I can hope for are 800s.

Being fair, it’s not full on tank gear – it’s knights gear, zerker trinkets, zerker weapons, and then traited purely for survival.

Only reason my crits are that high is the crit chance/+ crit damage. My regular damage is pitiful, and I don’t have kits/grenades etc to raise it.

I gave the largest number because the fellow I was responding to believes guardians are unkillable tanks that deal imba damage. Giving him the highest numbers we can achieve, so he can see how sad they are compared to, say, warrior damage.

EDIT: and food – take away the food, and I don’t crit much at all. Then my attack peaks at about 1k. rawr.

You’re complaining about your damage, then compare your tanky/balanced guardian to a pure DPS warrior damage with no survivability at all? I mean, I’m currently running a balanced PVT/Knights mix Hammer warrior and I do around that much (2k-2500 crits) but with nowhere near guardian sustainability or survivability.

EDIT: referring to pvp here.

They aren’t getting any more damage though. The unblockable signet removes the passive power bonus (when it used to give more damage) and boonhate is 30 in discipline.

tbh it’s giving more options for good play, timing your signet well rather than spamming it as often as possible for might seems like a better gameplay.

discipline if I remember is critical damage? Most warriors spec for that anyway.

crit damage and warrior burst(F1) mechanic traits.. It’s well suited for eviscerate or killshot warriors, I suppose, but I’ve never gone deep into Discipline myself. I sometimes put some points into it for the reduced weapon swap recharge.

been playing a PVT hammer warrior since the first BWE and I wish we had more sustainability in combat (In the beta, 25 sec CD shouts was 20 sec CD, and shout healing felt sustainable, when traited, though I don’t want shout healing to be the mechanic for sustainable defense, that would be stupid). I don’t mean ‘toughness’ or damage reduction, but recovering hp. I see all other ‘bunker’ builds being able to keep their HP topped up in fights and prolong fights as long as they want. Heck, thieves who are pure DPS builds can keep their HP topped up in fights if they really play defensively. But us warriors will eventually see our HP hit 0 regardless of whether we’re built for DPS, Defense, or Healing, unless we decide to just disengage and runaway completely.

This is just my opinion, though.

Honestly I feel what your saying since I play shouts As far as bunkers go you are right. However, most do have to create some type of separation to keep going. The somewhat sad part is that our bunker really isn’t there. In S/T pvp its just not possible. In Wv3 there are ways to get up there but none of it is sustainable. The main thing i took away is that the dps heavy conditions we cant deal with now we won’t be able to deal with later. Our actual condition management has been wept under the rug yet again.

I haven’t played shout warrior for a while, because it really doesn’t seem to work for what I want it to do, but part of a warrior’s survival and sustainability seems to come from putting pressure to the enemy, while other bunkers can keep their sustainability up just by playing very defensively (creating separation).

Now, the problem this creates for us is it becomes increasingly difficult to deal with more than one opponent, defensively, because there’s really no way we can put pressure on 2 or more targets to prolong our survival, compared to the more ‘reactive’ strategy other bunkers employ, where they simply look at what’s being thrown at them from whichever source, and activate the appropriate defensive move.

I also took a long break from the game, and returned only very recently. I stopped playing just when Fractals was introduced.

I still see a few people playing low level areas, but it’s a heck of a lot quieter in map chat, and most are just asking for ‘timers’. There’s still a lot of people in LA, but I’ve never been moved into overflow anymore, and there’s no queue in WvW, which is nice. It’s also terribly quiet in LA, compared to before, where there’s constant calls for groups for all sorts of dungeons. Now, it’s just lfg fotm every hour or so. I went to the gates to each dungeon, as well, and, except for CoF, they were empty, compared to before, where there’s always a few people standing outside each dungeon.

I tried LFG HoTW one time, because I kinda miss the dungeon, and after spamming that a few times, someone whispered me a link to an LFG site (I guess, to me, they should just add an LFG tool if that’s gonna be the case, anyway). I’m assuming most of the folks are on guild or voice chat.

The dailies and monthlies was changed, so there’s a lot more variety in completing them. They’re still designed as a checklist gameplay, and I can’t see myself engaging in that type of activity. The week I spent playing net me 3 laurels, and that’s without really bothering finishing dailies at all (I mostly did WvW and the Living Story content). WvW feels much more playable now, due to the culling issue being removed. Orr feels ridiculously safe now, as well, but there’s also much less people than I remember.

If you’re returning into the game without a guild, it’s going to be a much lonelier game than before, so you really should join a guild as soon as possible.

lol so now as I near the end of this massive update chain I find out the game is a ghost town. Hope it is more lively than you describe.

it’s not a ghost town at all, but maybe everyone’s just chatting in their own guild chats or something. It’s much quieter in public chat, but there are still lots of players.

Gold is king in GW2, there is nothing ells to do once you’ve been 80 for 2-3 months.

I’ve been 80 for considerably longer, and I haven’t run out of things to do, nor do I care about hoarding gold.

If you think gold is the only thing to do in GW2, then you probably shouldn’t be hoarding it in the first place, and instead go play something that’s more fun for you, unless of course, it’s fun to hoard it in your case, which is valid.

In short, not everyone likes to play GW2 at a frenetic pace, and indeed, nothing is forcing us to do so.

Most people quit because they got nothing else to do. I stopped since last October because it became increasingly harder to find people to play with who still know how to stop and smell the roses, who would do dungeons without skipping or exploiting.

I started playing again just a week ago to see what’s new, and been guesting to different servers to get a feel of the overall community, and everyone’s still farming the same things, and all you see in area chat is “Timer?” I only did the Living story thing, and tried the daily stuff a couple times. Now, I just WvW because it’s really the only place left where I can find majority of the people still playing to ‘play’ than to ‘win prizes’

PvE: Is Toughness and Vitality pointless?

I feel bad for Anet. They have to build content that can be run and completed by any group composition, be it 5-man glass cannon, 5-man support, assorted builds, etc, and 5-man DPS/glass cannon will always be the fastest, riskiest, and to a majority of people, ‘best’ way of running content. Thinking about it, I don’t think there’s any way for the designers to fix that.

They can’t make content that is impossible for a 5-man DPS group to finish, but allowing a 5-man DPS group to finish content means it will always be the best way to do it, for the majority of players.

Go into high level fractals… Without a skilled group and a good organized composition you will have a very bad time. All glass cannon can work, same as all tank, but “possible”!=efficient. All classes and builds synergise differently, some better than others but at the end of the day all builds have a role.

tldr: be smart.

Well if a team is good enough to beat a particularly difficult content in both a DPS composition or tanky composition, which setup do you think would finish the content faster?

Ok I'm confused.

I had minimal connectivity problems before, whatever the zone, however big the zerg train was, WvW or PvE.

Basically I cannot use skills, and movement is delayed, but chat works fine. At one point, my guildmate and I were chatting in game about the lag, without issues, but, at the same, the the game was pretty much frozen for both of us for about 10-15 seconds.
