[Spoilers] Mordremoth final LS fight

in Living World

gricks.1897

So the wife and I just did this one.

We did it on the second try but it does have some really poor implementation. Interesting in general, and the concept is phenominal. From a paper perspective I love it. Until…

Time out. Seriously? If one of your party dies, you get put into time out, no chance of resurrection or rejoining, and YOU CANT EVEN WATCH THE BATTLE?

How was this ever a good idea in implementation?

Also, WAY to many particle effects. Coming from a colorblind person, I had no idea which particle effects were which. I was just hoping not to sand in the bad particle effects versus the flashy particle effects.

The fight was long. Super long. Way longer than it needed to be. Once you figured it out, it was not tough, but it was just time consuming, for the sake of being time consuming.

Leading up tot his wife and I were loving the LS, it was very well done for the most part. This fight though was NOT the capstone we were expecting or wanting. I am glad it was an upgrade from Zhaitan, as in we actually fought Mordremoth, BUT the mechanics and especially the time out box were very poorly done.

this was the point of the change?

when you tagged an escort and left you were relying on someone else to actually do the event ~ getting full credit was kinda silly

QFT

It has not just happened here, there seems to have been this change in many places. Which is a GOOD thing. You want credit? Stick with it till the end.

LOL I think I need to quote my own hypocrisy. I was complaining about that mentality for ages, now I complain about the fact you have to actually complete events yourself.

Elite specs are good, but they really are only a new play style. I enjoy the LB on my Dragonhunter, but I can easily get by without it. It completely depends on the style of play you use, and your own skill level.

The event rewards are dropping, the issue is the new calculation of if you actually aided in the event. If you leave the event, and do not contribute again before its completion you get nothing. Where you used to be able to tag an event as it left (like the pack bulls), you cannot do it anymore. you have to stick with the event.

It is a real shame to be honest.

CoF Farming

Stay mad – the way it was handled was a choice.

To be clear, I’m not mad at the players. I’m irritated at the Designers throwing another total farce of design with their complete failure of in-house hostile testing, bringing us up to 3 egg-on-face episodes in three months.

You can almost hear the snickering from other studios… Once again ANet’s been outfoxed by their players: a long term progression system burned to the ground in days.

Well done.

First off, NO GAME RELEASED has tested better than a select few players finding a way to break it. It has never happened. You have 100 testers, maybe, compared to your million strong user base. The odds are NEVER in the developers favor, and if you think a company can test for all instances then you are delusional.

Secondly, the farm is not a bad thing. Yes, you will get all CENTRAL TYRIA Masteries. That is it though. They still need all the jungle Masteries. Personally, as someone who does a 9-5, and have a married life, I do not want to spend the weeks and months having to go back and level up all the Central Tyria. I have a life to live. CoF farm lets my keep up with Central Tyria, and free’s me to enjoy the newer content.

This is one of the rare instances of farming that lets someone have a life, and enjoy what they want else where.

I am sorry you people cant have the tough, weeks and months long grind fest or feel like your leveling was somehow lessened because 8 hours in CoF “invalidates” your levels existence. It doesn’t. CoF farm is a choice, and it is a means to an end for folks who either don’t have the time to devote to leveling Central Mastery (see myself), or simply do not want to. In the times I have farmed, I have met some awesome people. Most people I have seen are super cool, and simply want to get it done with.

Get off your high horse, sit in the computer chair, and enjoy your adventures.

Precursor crafting. I don't get it . . .

They gave you a road map for a definitive 100% guaranteed precursor. Yes, it costs a lot of materials, but the farm is MAYBE 1 hour per day for about a month. When your done with that, and working on your legendary? Guess what it takes about 6 months of farm or so if you do not want to buy items off of TP. My Flameseeker Prophecies cost me 100 gp to negate the last couple of months of farm.

These are collection quests, meant to take time, and resources. They are precursors to legendary weapons, but you WILL get a precursor if you put in some time and energy. I figured with how long it takes to craft the legendary itself, that the pre would be about 3-4 months of work and thats what its looking like. I get maybe 2 hours of play time a night, and am working on Bifrost T2 currently. I hop on, spend some time salvaging leather, doing some mining then going on with my day. I am even doing Dusk and Kudzu at the same time.

It takes time, or it takes money, or it takes both. Pick your cost.

HoT is challenging. This is a good thing. It NOT overly Challenging. If your bad at the game, it will make you better. It will teach you to time those dodges, time those blinds, time those blocks.

The maps do get progressively more difficult as you progress through them. The maps will also become easier as the meta events are figured out. This is nothing more than a large scale Silverwastes experience when SW dropped and people were figuring it out.

The maps and mobs will be figured out and it will lessen in difficulty with the knowledge. It is FAR too early to bring in the nerf hammer. I personally miss original Orr where the exploration of that dead land was deadly and a constant fight. This is perfect for a feeling of being in the dragons domain.

Post 250HP- How you Rate HoT fun factor

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: gricks.1897

gricks.1897

I would give HoT 8/10

The Elite Specialization being reduced to 250 was a good move.

To the people whining about it not being 400 anymore, the big issue was not so much the grind but the sustainability. It would mean EVERY new expansion with Elite Spec (which sounds like the path they are going) would need 400 skill points to allow for the unlock. That is a LOT of skill points to force into an expansion. 250 is sustainable because that means you can easily add the capacity for people to play the expansion and get the Elite. I am sorry you feel like you want to have some “progression” but that’s not progression, that was just a silly amount of hero points necessary for something a lot folks wanted. Now people could get enough hero points to unlock their elite by doing World Completion and a LITTLE HOT and have points left for the next XPAC to unlock their next Elite and then explore there for the next expansion.

The downsides I still see are as follows:

Lots of new map currencies and keys. This was really unnecessary and is just bloating our inventories.

Breakbar madness. Why are there a bunch of Vets running around with breakbars? I understand the new breakbars but I feel you guys may have gone a little over board with this idea.

Lots of new crafting materials for scribe….with no bank slots. I am SURE you guys are looking into this but we are all a bit confused why we have these crafting materials with no home.

Most of these are just simply QoL though. For the vast majority of HoT, it has been a blast, and I think now with the 250 HP it is in a good place. It doe snot feel like Grind, it feels like progression. The only necessary Masteries are easy to get to. The others will come with time which is what is supposed to happen.

This is not grind. This is Farm.

There is a distinct difference in that this is entirely optional. They could go out and run around Silverwastes, or Orr. I have personally not changed up my routine at all and have almost Second Tier of legendary masteries, plus about 6-7 from the jungle.

These folks simply found the optimal means of gaining what they want quickly. Congrats to them. It is not the most fun, but optimal paths are not always fun. As long as they don’t come back complaining about endless grind I have no issue.

I do not know if this is against community guidelines, if so, my bad! Otherwise…

Extra Life is an organization devoted to playing games to raise money for hospitals, specifically the The Childrens Hospital at VCU in my area. All proceeds go directly to the hospital.

My wife and I will be playing an event for Extra Life here in a couple of weeks on Nov.6-7. Starting from 8PM Friday night, to 8PM Saturday night, we will be playing Guild Wars 2, as the One Life Challenge.

One Life Challenge:
1. We create new Free to Play accounts.
2. We make a character.
3. We play that character, and if it ever dies, we start over from the beginning!
4. No fast travel, no buying new equipment.

Now! This is where you all come in! We want you to donate at the link provided, and come join us in game for it! We will be live streaming our progress on twitch as well, so others can see our horrible escapades of failure. What do donations get you though? Starting at the highest donation, you will choose for us our Race/Class/Name (Please keep it civil). So when you donate! Please comment on our race and class combinations.

Races:
1. Human – I am a human! The prettiest race in Tyria!
2. Sylvari – I am Groot.
3. Asura – I am smarter than you. End of discussion. Now begone idiot! I also look like a gremlin…
4. Charr – I am a cat/dog/demon made of claws,teeth,horns, and bad attitude.
5. Norn – I am a giant made of Celtic and Norse stereotyping that worships animal spirits!

Proffessions:
1. Elementalist – I am the master of all four elements! Wind, Fire, Earth, Water!
2. Mesmer – I will kill you with my mind using your mind. Also purple butterflies everywhere!
3. Necromancer – I command the undead!
4. Thief – I am a ninja!
5. Engineer – Why bother with swords when you have guns and automated turrets!
6. Ranger – I use the longbow to murder everyone and everything. My pet mops up.
7. Guardian – A warrior of holy light!
8. Warrior – A warrior of blood, death, and vengeance!

Commander vs. Mentor – Change Recommendation

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

This is a worry I did have on hearing the Mentor tag. The issue though is that anyone can get a tag. Mentor or otherwise. The tag does not denote whether you know more or not compared to the other tag. I could go drop $20 right now and buy a Commander tag.

It is simply another tag in the game. If the Mentor does not lead well, then folks leave for another tag, same as tags currently in the game. I have very little problem with the tag situation as it is really no different than it was before. Just a prettier tag. If you lose your zerg, you lose your zerg. If the mentor is doing badly, folks will stop following, and will flock to a new tag, or your own.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

gricks.1897

My biggest concern for Elite Specs is currently the lack of sustainability.

Like Masteries, Elite Specs were to be one of the hot drop additions to the game where they can drop in new Elite Specs with Expansions and Living Story. At 400 HP, this is impossible. 400HP is honestly and insane amount of points when compared to the other trees. I was expecting somewhere around 200 HP at most.

My biggest worry is that everyone will be spending HP on this expansion not thinking of what elite specs may come out of the next expansion, and when you end 100% world completion (Tyria Core+HoT) and spend all HP, and come up with about 29(?) HP left, that is a problem. There is no way that ANET could fit 400 more HP into the next XPAC.

ANET, for the sake of allowing people to unlock all Elite Specs looking into the future, reduce the Hero Points necessary. If for nothing else than to allow people to really play those Elite Specs sooner, which for many people was one of the core reasons they got HoT.

Protection

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: gricks.1897

gricks.1897

I think we need to have stun resistance like have it scale with healing power. there are stuns in the game that last over four seconds and things can chain those too. After being stunned stun resistance lowers stun percentage by a certain percentage while also increasing timed invulnerability to stuns like a piece of zealot’s boots would give you .3 seconds of stun resist, which should be enough time to avoid teagariff knockdown chaining when shake it off, haste, or similar are off cooldown.

Since some mobs also have some healing power we’d have to create a separate stat for them to avoid them from resisting chain stuns.

You are looking for Stability.

As for Protection, it is fine as it is. PvE does not dish out enough Condi’s to really hamper you as long as you have a single condi cleanse (I usually forgo condi cleanse and dont have a problem). In WvW and PvP, you should already have access to plenty of condi cleanse no matter the class.

Granted if you are facing a condi build team comp, then…well…protection still wont help you much.

Raids are NOT exclusionary. They simply require knowledge of the mechanics and the ability to listen to a leader. This is the same as any area of the game (World Bosses, Dungeons, Fractals, etc.). Are Raids hard? Yes, they are meant to be. Can anyone do them? Yes! Anyone can do them if you want to learn, and if you want to get better, anyone can. There is no exclusion here. I have been doing PvP all weekend and have not had any issues with the new elite specs, unless I face someone who is actually better. Ran into a permaswiftness Revenant, healnova druid, pound face Power/Precision Reaper, I think a DH at some point, not many of those.

I honestly have not had an issue. The biggest issue is that these classes are new and for the most part play very differently from what would be expected of the class you are facing. It is less a l2p issue and more a learn the new class mechanics issue.

I did the weekend with Engineer, Guardian, Thief, and Ranger.

Beta Weekend Druid Feedback Thread

in Ranger

gricks.1897

I did not play a lot of druid, but do have a couple of thoughts:

1. Celestial Form is very short I think. It eats through its resource extremely quickly, maybe I played it wrong, but should healing while in celestial form give more of the resource back? If not, why not? All you have is healing and condition, so it gives a very active play style to keeping Celestial form up, and when combat dies down, you lose it naturally.

2. Gaining the resource for Celestial form is too hit or miss. Ranger does not have a lot of Heals to pass out in the first place, making it based on the healing they do is not the best measure.

BWE 3 Guardian Feedback (Core/DH)

in Guardian

Posted by: gricks.1897

gricks.1897

My 2 cents after doing a bunch of PvP and PvE dragonhunter.

Mechanically it is very sound now.

Its place in the game though is not.

This is still the biggest issue with Dragonhunter and I do not think it can be fixed. The Guardian is already a VERY well balanced and well rounded class that has a specific place and play style. It is a front line burst damage, or support class. Can it use the Longbow well? Yes, it can. It is a very fun style to play, and the visuals are very gratifying, the issue is, the rest of the skills on the Guardian and the usual play style do not mesh with it. If we had some kind of ranged support mechanic, then it would fit perfectly.

When I saw that DH got traps over something similar to GW1 Paragon (which I believe EVERYONE in the community was expecting), I knew it would not fit. It completely contradicts the Guardians leadership and support specialty.

So my review, mechanically, the class is right on the money. Range, and Cooldowns of the Virtues are very good. The wings virtue is a great leap for combat or out of combat, and the Spear having the same range as the Longbow on a 20 second cooldown to mesh with its trait of delivering Vulnerability on hit is perfect. The longbow deflecting shot skill is just slow enough to be of use now against opposed ranged characters.

I honestly could not work with the traps enough to know if they were of use. I tried them a few times, but I had much better options to support ranged combat.

I am not a huge fan of the use of Ascended Crafting materials in the Precursor crafting and them not having any Ascended wepaon qualities until the further work to be done to make them legendaries. Especially if we are going to be in a fairly high double digits of amounts needed. Ascended Crafting mats are obnoxiously time gated, and expensive.

I would nto mind the ascended mats IF the timegates were removed.

Can anyone give me some reason for the timegates in the first place? It makes no sense to me, and just seems like they wanted some trivial reason to make ascended items take longer to craft. Just throw a timegate in!

Close Combat I am a bit curious about though as focus does block 3 hits, as opposed to aegis blocking 1. I can see shield being good on bunker guard though.

Guard still has low CD shouts out the yingyang, area Aegis off several skills, plus layered condi removal, but more importantly, condition reversal. I don’t want my conditions gone, I want them made to support me.

Guardian still fills its niche of support on the front line with shouts, and might stacking from staff.

I think the biggest and best thing to make traps work for Dragonhunter, is to simply give them the ability to be ground targeted, either as a trait, or to begin with. Dragon Hunter As I main a Guardian I have been trying all weekend to find a use for this class, a slot in the game it can fit in well with for it’s build and load out.
I cannot.
This class seems like it was put together by combining the warrior and ranger bow abilities, throw in Warrior Snipe F1 and there you go. It seems very lazily done when compared to Daredevil, Berzerker, and Chronomancer. Who all have abilities that mesh well with their new load outs, and compliment the playstyle opened up.
The traps are a joke almost. All they do is damage and cripple. That is it. Nothing else special about them. No interrupts, no burning (why? This would fit in with he usual Guardian theme!), no blinds? They have some cripple, but nothing that really helps them.
A ranger does this specializations job a LOT better and a lot more reliably. The visuals are very cool, and the class is pretty, but losing the instant activation on the F1-3, losing the ability to activate while stomping, this specialization actually gives a huge liability to the Guardian in wvw and pvp. I can find absolutely no reason to run this Spec outside of PvE, play style change or not, it completely inverts the classes intended purpose, and I was afraid of that since the announcement of this spec. Further it gives the class a liability in its F abilities. Its core abilities are now a liability. That should not be the case.

Daredevil I am loving this class. the only issues I am seeing is simply the lack of fluidity in its animations. It seems to force itself into the new animations. Other than that, I am loving it.

Honestly, just buff Healing Power and introduce a “Boon Duration” stat that increases OUTGOING boon duration and you will have the stat array that would be great for folks who want to heal. There is a lot of options for giving heals out (more so on Guardian), its just that healing power has such a horrible ratio.

If I spec all healing on my Guard and focus on healing/buffing abilities, its not bad per say…but it really is not great.

A raid is a long and challenging fight. If it is not at least an hour to two hours (much like WoW raids) then I think the concept will have been given a grave injustice. These are not going to be and should not be, like Dungeons, where you can move, stack, kill, move, stack kill, done in 15 minutes.

Raids need to be long because of the challenging content, not because the content is grindy but because the fights are intense, and mechanically difficult. Knowing ANET from GW1 days, and from some Fractals, I think this can be done by them. I hope this can be done.

I love my bunker trap condi ranger. I can just sit in my trap, wait for anyone to come at me and see them melt faster than I can even engage after my traps. Condition is stupid strong right now because there is nothing you can do about it. No on has enough condi cleanse to survive a condition fight.

This thread is so very British.

I would say Guardians are Timtams. Super delicious and even more so frozen! Cause so much condi removal!

Did they get rid of hitting players while channeling and then the channeling gets interrupted? I could swear this was in the alst iteration, and I am not a fan of it being removed. All warriors or rangers need do is pop stab+no damage and they can just channel away and run.

There is no tactics to channeling defense if you can just ignore the other person, no real reason to secure the mist essence or supplies.

Mesmers are good, but it really is a serious l2p skill versus mesmers, they require a great deal of skill to get their combos off with major damage. If you fight a player who knows what they are doing, it will be fairly even DEPENDENT on class. The problem in PvP is that its really rock paper scissors. On my Guardian I can eat through Mesmers, even good ones without much difficulty, my thief can but only if they are of similar skill as I (still learning how to properly play thief).

Mesmers are obnoxious and PUNISH players who do not understand how they work or are lower skill. Every game has a Mesmer situation class, where if your good with them, you are OP.

On the flip side, Mesmers do stack conditions EXTREMELY quickly, and I think that at times it can definitely by too quick. I do not find Mesmers broken or undefeatable though. You do not need an infinite amount of dodges, you simply need to just keep moving, have some vigor procs. Dodge should only be necessary once in a while. A lot of good Mesmer weapon abilities lock them. Their biggest bursts are point blank or targeted in one location.

Specializations

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

gricks.1897

Specializations I would like to see:

Ranger – Poacher – Rifle

Thief – Pirate/Corsair Captain – No new weapons, but receives Shouts. Be the first support medium armor.

Warrior – Martial Artist – Staff – Medium Armor – Additional Physical Skills

Guardian – Sunspear – Change staff skills into “Spear of Light” skills, similar to how
Necromancer staffs take the appearance of Scythes. Gain wide area aoe buffs via Stances.

Elementalist – Arcane Trickster – Gain Tricks or Deceptions.

Elementalist – Mage Knight – Gain Medium Armor. This is a bit different from gaining new weapons, why not mix up armor availability? Gain Shouts.

Mesmer – Minstrel – I love this concept and it could utilize kits very well, making “weapons” out of magic devoted to different musical concepts and tones, blasting foes with discordant sounds, taunting them soothing melodies, wracking them with torment with sharp musical tones.

Engineer – Battlefield Mechanic – Gains Heavy Armor – Physical skills

Engineer – Technomancer – Light Armor – Arcane skills

Necromancer – Deathknight – Heavy Armor – Mace – Shouts – Similar to mace wielding Guardian, simply the opposite. Offensive Shouts, and punishing blocks, Wells on the mace instead of symbols.

The new Elite Specializations open a HUGE world of possibilities without having to introduce new classes and balance them. I love the introduction of Elite Specializations over new classes.

For all my ideas I tried to work within the constraints ANET set for themselves by not introducing new skill keywords, and simply utilizing whats in the game.

Where did you get your PreCurser?

I am personally super looking forward to what will probably be crazy complicated and long quests for precursors coming in HOT it will give a much more community driven cooperation for Legendarys and while I do not think they should be super prevalent, more people achieving the Legendaries would be nice to see, or at least have more capabilities rather than luck.

Played since launch, taking a 9 month break, approximately 2000 hours played. Never found a legendary until HOT came along announcing its “legendary quests”, decided that my guild would probably be doing those together, gave up on the idea, did pvp, found The Chosen in a pvp champion loot box. This was about 6 months ago, took about 3 months to complete Flameseeker Prophecies.

Could we get something to do until HoT?

You can do:

1. Fractals
2. Season 2 Achievments
3. WvWvW
4. Hunt down Mystic Forge recipes (Spirit Crafter, Infinite Light, Wings of Dwayna, etc.)
5. Dungeons
6. Hunt skins

There is no Living Story update releasing before HoT (although technically Restored Lions Arch was a living story update). Currently all of their attention is focused on HoT I believe, but I do also hope that some of the festivals happen, such as a Lions Arch reopening festival.

Also, whya re you playing if your not having fun???

I personally love the “enemy gain control” mechanic I have seen in STO fleet combats, where you get hit with a debuff that essentially flips the team your on. All your buffs go tot he enemy, all your enemies turn into your former allies. This is not a “debuff” by normal senses and as such cannot be cleansed. It does not last long (manner of seconds, I think about 5-6) but the enemies sure enjoy your spamming heals suddenly giving them health.

I think introducing that mechanic alone could be interesting, as it will do one of two things:

1. Force the player away from the area to avoid AoE Condis from team mates
2. If not paying attention they will begin hitting their former allies

If these are AoE attacks, then it also forces groups to keep moving, and dodging.

Another idea would be condition reversal. A White Mantle Justicar may channel the flames to take all burning damage as healing instead, a poison drake could drink poison stacks for health from both enemies and allies. An enemy revenant could gain bonuses to damage and still attack freely while under the effects of blind.

Anet just needs to think out of the box with its current system, there is a lot of interesting opportunities without adding new mechanics, simply changing how the current ones work.

I had the same issue. If you are a member of a different order, why do you receive the ability to progress your story and then it goes into someone else order. This sounds more like a bug.

Guild Halls for small guilds

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

gricks.1897

“in GW2 it is far more story driven.”
Yes, it’s far more story driven. So you’re saying if it has story impact, the smaller guilds should in fact not be able to progress because they aren’t big enough? Because depending on how story driven it actually is, this could end up being the case. Again, this becomes a ‘conform or gtfo.’

“guilds should have opportunities gained by them for work and effort put in”
And a small guild obviously cannot work just as hard as a large guild because we can’t field as many bodies? That’s asinine. They’ll definitely do it slower and require more time, but if they aren’t restricted by an arbitrary body count (which is exactly what you’re saying this should be), small guilds can be just as persistent and work just as hard as their larger counter parts.

“Small guilds can use the social guild hall provided in lions arch”
That’s not a guild hall. Not even close.

Well besides taking some of my points to the extreme, “guilds should have opportunities gained by them for work and effort put in”, yes. You can work as hard as you want, and you can still achieve things as a small guild, but body count DOES count whether you want it to or not. Large guilds can do more bounties, they can garner more participation in treks, races, puzzles, etc. If they do these as much as a smaller guild, they WILL gain more. A small guild can stick to it as much as they want, and they can gain as much as they want, but if they do not team up with others to bolster their number,s there will be soft gated content. This is like saying “my guild has 5 people, but we want to raid only together” in other games. Well you cant, you simply do not have the numbers.

“Small guilds can use the social guild hall provided in lions arch”
The social guild hall, is a social guild hall. Granted its not a personalized one, it will provide the same means of access that a personalized guild hall does, except probably a couple features.

As I said, before, this content CAN be done by smaller guilds, but you have to work with others. I am sorry some small guilds only want to do things themselves, but fact of the matter is, they cannot, and honestly they should not have the capability of it. If it is supposed to be as grand as Anet wants it to by, why should a small guild be able to assault a stronghold of mordremoth in the same way as a large guild? If in the story all races band together, why then should guilds not? It should be an integral part of the story for small guilds to form alliances and large guilds launch their own offenses.

I stand behind everything I said, and again, folks may not like it, but in my personal opinion, it is very fair. Small guilds should not feel entitled to the same benefits of large guilds, otherwise a large guilds work is counted for nothing.

Downscaling is broken. Please address this.

I have been running dungeons. Dungeons are super easy now to be honest. You get two gaurds, or a guard and ele, nothing lives long. If people are arguing that dungeons are harder now due to downscaling, then I really do not know what to say about that. I have run all paths in AC, a couple TA, and some COF and overall dungeons are super easy mode currently. Thank you stack able Flameing.
