i don’t know why i keep reading the engineer forums… it has even more whining than the thief forums
pve gear has no place in spvp, go to wvw if you want to kill players with pve gear

i’m all for it, i’ve died so many times to mesmers just because of the crappy targeting system
i actually like the hip shot animation, it’s like firing a shotgun

I would have to agree. Viable builds {In WvW} Consist of a version of HGH or a version of SD, and they seem to be aiming at HGH for now atleast.

i think of my thief as more of a marauder/skirmisher rather than a stealthy assassin
shadow refuge, you just have to be careful when using it because any decent player will try to either knock you out or kill you while you’re in it
i don’t wvw, but honestly i think the best tool for getting away is shadowstep, it’s probably one of my favorite utilities
as long as you learn how to dodge properly, pve isn’t an issue
i’m not sure if i can really describe pvp since it’s not a set thing and changes every time
become a glass cannon, damage is the best thing you can contribute as a thief in pve

i hope it’s not a map they’re making for custom arenas where you’ll have to buy access to it via the gem store to use on your own custom arena server
conditions are fairly easy to cleanse, though i feel like this only hurts condition classes who aren’t able to apply a lot of unique conditions at a time (which is the real issue, not cleansing), condi cleanses rarely affect specs like a condi engi who can quickly apply almost every condition
gw2 is one of the most casual-friendly mmos ever, there isn’t any content aimed at “hardcore” players at all
there is no gated content
there are no raids
exotic gear can be obtained through a currency that is gained naturally through leveling up
ascended gear is obtained through a currency gained from doing daily and monthly achievements
as for the living story (which you mentioned extensively), during each phase of the living story there were about 1-2 things to do…. for a month, all of it was soloable except for the dungeon released with this patch, none of the enemies are/were deadly, you get up-leveled for the content so anyone can participate
i can understand the reasoning behind it, it’s just really annoying
like for instance, i’ve been following the living story up to this point, but i won’t even be able to do the conclusion because my computer won’t finished being repaired until after the twelfth
stealth is a defensive utility, like evades and blocks
gw2 is the only game (?) that allows you to swing a huge sword around hoping you’ll kill someone in stealth, it’s usually easy to predict where the person is, if you’re having trouble with stealth then it’s your playstyle that’s the issue

i just wish steal actually stole a random utility skill the class we stole it from had equipped instead of the boring set skills we steal now; i’m all for having venoms on f2-f4, (minus basilisk) because i feel that it’s too weak to use in place of other utility skills
Downed:
I like the downed state, allows to teleport out of AoE’s and other horrors to safer places to be ressed at. Smoke bomb>Heal>Teleport gives some additional seconds of heal, since the tele doesn’t break healing, should have longer range though.The downed attack is AoE, and hence something standing in your way doesn’t stop you
from attacking the low health target behind it, an issue I had on other classes.The stealth on underwater downed has to long time until it is usable, and usually

The thief from ambush trap dies way too quickly.
Tripwire only knocks down 1 target, imo I think it should stay up for about 2-3 seconds after triggered to knock down additional targets that tries to pass it.
Needle trap should immobilize and poison the first target that steps on it as
normally, and for a couple of seconds afterwards cripple and posion additional
targets that walk over it.
Shadow trap is situational and it’s fine as it is, even though it may not be worth
filling an utility slot for.Caltrops:

Needs to be fixed to only trigger after casting, and stop additional
auto attack chains to continue.
i think shadow trap could be really great if it worked like a mesmer’s portal (for a one time only though), and teleported people around the thief like a pbaoe or something
Ranger, imo. Better support healing, better long-term DPS, especially if you go conditions, and generally better support. If you go with a thief, try to have a P/P weaponset on you for the boss fights, use the Shortbow for the rest applying poisons and blast finishers for boons and conditions.
if you don’t melee you’re gimping yourself
i know the sigils work, i’m not so sure about the stats however… i believe each kit has a set level of stats or something, but i’m probably wrong in that regard

if you used bountiful theft then that’s why, it only steals 1 stack of the boon
Pistol #4 is one of the best skills in our arsenal. Situational though.

anyway, the key to killing thieves is to avoid their initial burst, it’s so obvious most of the time
they’ll usually bsk venom-assassins signet – steal -(cnd if they’re d offhand)(black powder and hs if they’re pistol offhand) -bs
it’s pretty fun (and strong), i think i’m gonna try a build that doesn’t revolve around grenades however
well since we’ll have all of the armors and weapons unlocked, yeah, i’d still have fun
i used fast targeting for a while… until i started playing a necro and engi in pvp
i have an asura necromancer…not because it’s hard to see but because i love asura, my thief is a charr
I love ppl complaining about offensive thief skill when the problem is totally different: defensive skills. Stealth, stealth regen, removing condition in stealth and all allow thief to go with offensive gear. Same gear on all other class, but mesmer, means death in 2 seconds as soon as you put your nose out of starting door. Thief doesn’t need a lot of armor or health when stealth is his own armor, with all the skills concerning that.

i have mixed feelings about this
on one hand i feel like it’d help a lot of people who die quickly in pvp, but on the other hand i feel that if you’re pvping you should already have knowledge of what those attacks look like (with a grenade/bomb engi this is a bit weird since until it actually hits it looks the same, but you shouldn’t ever be standing still anyway)
i’m pretty happy with how my thief looks
i’m actually getting to the point where i’m finding it aggravating to solo-queue, as with most of the teams i’m getting/playing against it just isn’t fun anymore
Warriors are not OP.
They have distinct advantages in DPS over other professions, yes, but those professions could be buffed to their level, rather than the other way around.
Warriors still have to jump through hoops like the badly disguised QTE known as “dodging”. They still have to throw boulders at ghosts. They’re not godmode.
in terms of pvp there are two (2) new maps, and leaderboards
the leaderboards (at least for pvp) take into account people who have been doing tournaments since last month, not since the beginning of the game; most of the people at the top aren’t “cheaters” they just run with a premade

hmm… i’ve done p3 quite a bit, i don’t think i’ve ever seen it and i stay down there with him the whole time, that’s strange
when i first joined pvp and i insulted a thief once and i felt pretty bad, since then i haven’t done it at all
in spvp (hotjoins mostly) a lot of people tend to insult others when killing them (i suppose it’s an ego boost of a sort), honestly the best revenge is specifically seeking them out and killing them
