Its hilarious how the risk/reward ratio has been broken in favor of rangers after patch. No profession should be able to spam KBs (Point Blank Shot) from a safe 1200 distance or have so much firepower with a ranged weapon. For trollish classes like mesmers and thieves it might not be such an issue but when you play a melee warrior or guardian that doesn’t use a lame bunker build you literally have no chance of defending yourself or even reaching the ranger (yes they are glassy but you need to reach them first and no, reflects are often not enough to kill the ranger).

A turret engi and a ranger hidden somewhere safe on high ground is the new meta for “do not even bother to decap”. I get it, rangers should be masters of ranged weapons but adding so much power to longbow was a clear attempt to give rangers their absolute faceroll meta just they just quit complaining about how they are not viable. But the problem is that was mostly for PvE. sPvP was just collateral damage. One more reason why sPvP and PvE skills need to get separated.

Stacks are both FIFO and LIFO, depends which one you need. You can call it a queue if you don’t like the terminology but FIFO stacks exist and are commonly used.

Wahoo! Bye frands!

Depends on the view. I would gladly wait 5-10 minutes more if it means solo queue gets more diverse teams. If you insist on having full control over team composition (which includes bandwagon teams full of the same profession) you can freely do tPvP.

I also made an appeal to devs to at least reconsider adjusting the matchmaking algorithms for hotjoin/solo queue to prevent profession bandwagons.

[Suggestion] XvsY problem

in PvP

Posted by: holodoc.5748

holodoc.5748

Here is a proposal how to solve the XvsY issue which has been lately plaguing sPvP.

My proposal is to implement a FIFO (“first in first out”) stack with a variable length which would put defeated players at the end of the stack. If both teams are even respawns happen as usual.

However, if there is a 4vs5 situation the stack size (number of allowed active players per team) is reduced to 4 and the moment that fifth guy in the bigger team dies he or she goes to the end of the stack (waiting line). When someone else from his team dies he will be the first in team to respawn.

If a more serious situation like 3vs5 happens all the above rules would be applied the same. Basically whenever you die and are part of the bigger team you go to the end of the waiting line (stack).

I am serious now. This meta profession ganking has to stop. Fighting three turret engis on Skyhammer with a team of squishies in SoloQ is ridiculous. I don’t honestly care how absurd others find this idea, there needs to be a mechanism that prevents multiple profession of the same type in a single team. If that means longer queues, so be it.

I found out what’s the problem. If you have the lights turned on in the preview window then there is no glowing displayed. That means in order to actually see it (no matter how much the glowing color is obvious) you need to click on the “Toogle Lighting” bulb and turn the lights off o.O

Not very obvious if you ask me. I am going to use another Total makeover kit and skip over my complaint but it would be really nice if this “feature” was more obvious to people which customize Sylvari. After all its 350 gems per kit.

Could that be the sylvari glow? You can set a color and a brightness. It affects the hair, as well as any “skin” (bark?) that isn’t hidden behind armor. Makes designing a sylvari more time consuming (and more rewarding).

The problem is it wasn’t visible in the preview. I don’t even know what a Sylvari glow is o.O

I used a Total makeover kit to change how my character looks but after confirming my choice what I saw in the preview window and what I actually got was different.

I am specifically aiming at hair color which for some reason still displays orange although if I use another Total makover kit (just use it, no changes made) it displays what the character was supposed to look like. The hair is supposed to be pitch black like in the Total makeover kit preview.

Screenshots attached.

EDIT: Even weirder the hair is actually glowing orange. Going from pretty dark to very bright orange. Nothing of that was displayed in the preview window.

I have yet to have any lag issues in sPvP over the past 3 weeks, it may be more localized that you may think, only effecting a select few.

Its NOT localized. Look at the twitch streamers, ask in sPvP lobby. The game has been absolutely destroying gameplay in the last couple of weeks. For ranged classes it might not be a problem but I mostly play melee warrior/guardian and it kittenes me off when a well timed burst fails to connect and the game goes on a 5+s timeout instead. Not only that but I feel the lag and how sluggish my character reactions are to skill activation.

I would understand a couple of days but the problem has been going for weeks and has even escalated about two weeks ago.

It was a $60 dollar item and CCP learned their lesson when the “incident” happened three years ago. The whole story got blown a bit out of proportions because a lot of people actually make a living out of playing Eve online and selling characters with high amount of skill points. Combined with the fact that unlike GW2 Eve online has a free in-game market the whole monocle story would have influenced a lot of people. That’s actually the only reason why community reacted.

B2P (“buy to play”) is essentially nothing more than clever marketing. It tries to clearly distinguish the product from the over-saturated and often hated F2P market by rebranding it but B2P has been actually around for ages. Every game you ever bought was and still is B2P but when you say “an MMO is B2P” it sounds classy and better. And that’s the whole point of the marketing strategy for games like GW2.

What exactly is GW2? It’s B2P but only for the initial content you get served once you buy the game. Everything after that follows a clear F2P model which aims at keeping players in-game for the sole purpose of giving them more incentive to use the Gem shop.

“But, but, but… In Guild Wars 2 you get free content!?” Well you get free content in F2P games too, don’t you? There are literally dozens of F2P games which have regular patches and content additions. So how exactly is B2P superior to the F2P model? It is superior, but only for the publisher which not only gets all the benefits of the F2P model but also earns an extra bit with putting a price tag on the game itself.

Is it wrong to do it then? No. The content you get when you purchase the game is clearly worth the money. However, people do need to realize that after a couple of months they should not consider the game as B2P anymore because it starts to show all the characteristics of a classic F2P.

P.S. Subscription based games do have their share of advantages. I.e. if you play Eve online once you log in you will actually feel like a first-class citizen. Nothing is withheld from you. You don’t have to buy anything although you have a choice to use real money in order to get some vanity stuff (which almost nobody does anyway). And that feels great. Additionally developers have a steady income of money which they can use to regularly release new patches and expansions. You don’t feel like playing or get bored? Simply pause your subscription and resume paying it once you feel the need to play.

Warrior PvP Changes

holodoc.5748

I would have to agree about “Endure pain” because other classes like thieves are also prevented from capping if they go to stealth but still get influenced by damage if they get hit or take conditions with them. This is coming from someone who mains a warrior in sPvP.

As for “Combustive shot”, no offense, but I can only say its pure wishful thinking from someone who probably never played a warrior. Yes warriors are currently trapped with CI/longbow but with so many ways to successfully interrupt bursts (most notably blinds and fears) its the only reliable way to cleanse conditions for warriors. Berserker’s stance can be helpful but once its used it goes on a long 60s cooldown and a fight is usually over in 60s. Additionally its pretty hard to come up with full adrenaline bar in 7-10 seconds unless you decide to trap yourself by wasting trait points into some pretty sub par trait lines. Warriors will become even more dependable on CI/longbow once the new patch arrives because otherwise they will be again eaten by conditions like it was when the game first launched and warriors were considered a free kill.

Why not simply add a (team size – 1) vote requirement to kick someone? With a five people team it would require at least four players for a kick which is in my opinion a pretty unanimous decision. There should also be a timer for every kick request (i.e. 20 seconds) during which every voting player is presented with a YES|NO option which can be changed until timer runs out.

The whole party leader sounds so wrong and no single person should have that much power in a party. Instances are about team play not leadership.

Spirit Watch is a good map, but I have heard that it’s not balanced. I believe one lane has a shorter distance compared to the other lane. I think it would be an interesting map for tournament settings, but until it’s balanced, it’s kittened.

A single bunker guardian can carry the orb to the left most capture point. I’ve witnessed a situation in which four players attack a guardian carrying orb and he still manages to reach it.

Only one distinct profession per match

in PvP

Posted by: holodoc.5748

holodoc.5748

The suggestion is pretty simple – allow only one distinct profession per team in a match. I don’t know exactly what wizardry is hidden behind the current matchmaking algorithm but lately I’ve seen a huge increase of matches in hotjoin and solo queue where one of the sides had 3+ players of the same profession. Today alone I had a match against a team of 3 eles and right after that against 4 rangers.

I know it might impose even more restrictions to the already small number of matches in sPvP (ranked is almost impossible to organize even during prime time) but I think it would at least promote a much needed diversity and role based play.

The problem with titles is you can display only one of them at a time. In Eve online, for example, you can choose to publicly display your certificates (something similar to titles in GW2) and everyone checking up your public profile can see them. What level of certification you got for flying ships? Do you have special certificates for negotiating with merchants or other people? Did you manage to specialize for Interdictors or Titans?

Its a beautiful system and it’s a shame someone from ANet didn’t pick it up and implemented it in GW2.

The theory is that people are less likely to leave if they have to be in the game anyway. Personally I agree with it.

I left because of an kitten, not bad internet connection. If someone is calling me names which exceed a very high threshold like this one did I am leaving the match, ranked or hotjoin. When I logged in with the same character I got returned to the match just for this guy to continue with his show.

The game should not be forcing me to continue to play something I don’t want to play anymore. Yes, I left on purpose but I was fully aware to accept whatever punishment there was for that (Dishonorable system or whatever, never left a match before).

Essentially I think solo queue should be removed completely. It has no place in competitive play and it only promotes some of the worst aspects of the game. What’s even worse hotjoin feels way more enjoyable these days even though it has its own share of problems.

They’re invulns, and the main reason why warrior is so braindead AND effective.

Warriors are making the game extremely boring, along with thieves.

Berserker’s stance is a gamble because you need to use it before conditions get applied to you in order for it to be effective. It doesn’t remove conditions, just prevents new ones from being applied in the next eight seconds. After that there is a 60s cooldown during which that skill is just dead weight.

Endure pain? I don’t know any experienced sPvP player that is willing to waste a slot for a 4s invulnerability followed by a 60s cooldown. I personally main a warrior and can’t remember the last time I used it.

Not just PvE, GS is perfectly viable for sPvP and WvWvW too. In sPvP it can be used for ninja attacks on far (excellent mobility) or providing good damage on crippled/immobilized/knocked down/knocked back targets. In WvWvW it is usually a weapon of choice if sword/warhorn is not used for providing swiftness/mobility/condi removal.

Auto-attack (#1) is pretty decent if you aim your gear toward DPS. 100B channeling (#2) is a pretty good risk-reward mechanism for an attack that can crit for 40K. “Whirling wind” (#3) can be very good for inflicting damage to stacked mobs and it provides one additional evade. “Bladetrail” (#4) is perhaps a bit slow but it cripples all the targets on its way from and back to player. “Rush” (#5) is simply great for traversing long distances, can be considered an additional evade and a peeling-off help. The most important thing people forget about GS is that “Arcing slice” (burst) can sustain perma Fury with only two bars of adrenaline spent every 10 seconds.

From all the weapons there are in GW2 I’d say GS is one of the better designed and thought out. Trait your warrior for GS damage and reduced cooldown and its almost perfect.

Please don’t derail the thread.

Look = check the leaderboards.
Think = who is really good at x (streamer/forums/gameplay) that plays a certain class.

I prefer people to make an effort to validate their clams before they post misleading information.

There are 27 people in the top 100 with win rates above 60% and over 100 wins. Without knowing classes it is safe to assume that the majority of the 8 classes will be represented in that group.

No offense but the current Leaderboards system is not a very convincing argument about anything. Today I had a 2/10 win/loss ratio in SoloQ. Does that make me a bad player? Maybe, but I bet it also has something to do with AFK people and leavers (4vs5 or even 3vs5 matches). In the current state only Team queue Leaderboards are somewhat representative although even those are now full of teams comprised of pugs (same story as with SoloQ).

sPvP in GW2 has become somewhat of a gamble unless you have a team of five people willing to play 24/7 with you (even then its a gamble if the opposing team might lose a pug or two).

The map itself is good however the lack of ways to prevent dying from falling down isn’t that great. If the map is highly dependent on CC then there should be a way to also counter CC spamming.

As I originally proposed there should be a stability buff on that small hill right bellow the gun which would grant 30-35s of stability but would require uninterrupted channeling (4-5s) and have a cooldown of lets say 20s.
