Skills/traits templates

in Suggestions

Basically what I would like to suggest is re-implementing the system that was used in GW1. There it was possible to save attribute points and skills setup through templates and reuse them whenever required. In GW2 it would be implemented on saving trait points and skills (just the ones on the right side of the skill bar, heal + utility + elite) or possibly with an option to save both of those separately (for those who, lets say, only want to save utility skills but not traits or vice versa).

Now since in GW2 there is a fee for resetting traits I believe adding trait resetting tokens like the one I proposed in this thread might be a solution for that:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Trait-resetting-tokens/first#post2437248

Of course interacting with skill trainers would also allow players to do template changes as many times as they like (given that they have enough gold to spend on resetting traits every time they choose to load a template).

Trait resetting tokens

in Suggestions

Posted by: holodoc.5748

holodoc.5748

I would like to suggest adding trait resetting tokens as consumables which would be available for purchase from skill trainers. Once consumed these tokens should refund (reset) all the trait points and allow the player to use them again.

My main reason for suggesting this is that in order to provide maximum performance for me and my team after switching from one kind of content to another (general PvE-> dungeons, PvE -> WvWvW) I often need to do retraits which require of me to change zones etc. This however is not half as bad as when I switch from, lets say, WvWvW to dungeons just to realize that I am the one who opened the dungeon and all my traits are wrong. Adding trait refunding tokens would greatly help me avoid these kinds of situations and potentially make me want to experiment even more with builds on the field because I don’t have to visit the skill trainers every time I need a change in my trait setup.

If developers feel that introducing this kind of consumables might present a problem of some kind because people would stop refunding points at skill trainers then they might just raise the price of tokens compared to the one players need to pay when resetting trait points at skill trainers (i.e. if skill trainers ask 3s for resetting then tokens might cost 5-6s). Although as a years long Guild Wars player I am in general against punishing people for wanting to experiment with their builds.

Thanks for reading.

Why stop at precursors? I would personally award every 50/50 HoM GW1 player with an account bound legendary weapon. In fact I would also reward them with 500g every month just as a recognition for spamming candies like crazy during the golden age of Spammadan.

People do you even hear your greedy voices when you come up with ideas like these? You are seriously asking for rewards in GW2 for things you’ve done in GW1? Well guess what – nobody asked of you to spent thousands of hours just to get one silly title, it was your own decision. You got the title and it should be a satisfaction to yourself, not people around you. How is spending more time in a game which you payed once loyalty to the developer when in fact by doing so you are utilizing more of their server resources?

I’ve played GW1 for eight long years yet I settled for 30/50 (in fact its a a bit more, not quite sure how much more) and do you know what’s recognition for me when it comes to GW1? The fact that in all the years to come my GW1 friends will remember me as being one of them – a small but important part of a group of people which shaped Tyria and their friendship at the same time. No amount of other “recognitions” can replace that.

And they all contributed to GW1 achievements which resulted in titles. HoM was just a way to easily follow game progression in GW1 but people started looking at it as something which was supposed to guarantee them a better start in GW2.

holodoc.5748

Earning a decent number of HoM points is no easy task as it requires months to reach at least 30/50. Even so with a non-existent population of players in GW1 its now almost impossible to complete some of the requirements (heroes can be of help in normal mode but doing stuff like vanquishing zones in hard mode is very hard without other players, even with specific builds like “Seven Hero Support” build).

So as a years long player of GW1 who is absolutely satisfied with having a 30/50 HoM (amount of points required for unlocking all the skins) I have to admit that I really don’t think giving any (let alone 50) points for GW2 achievements based on GW1 history was a good idea. I think that GW1 players like myself should have been rewarded only with unique skins and titles because a lot of people (and some of my friends) really enjoy competing with me through achievement points. They don’t care about leaderboards (nor do I) but how do I explain to them now that the 300 achievement points I got is something I consider fair in our competition?

Yes my view might surely kitten off some people which have multiple GWAMM accounts but I really think that giving this unfair advantage to GW1 players was a bad idea, no matter what was the reasoning behind it (marketing for sure, I guess).

I’ve played GW1 for a very long time and my HoM is actually pretty stuffed (30/50 that I set myself as a goal) but in my opinion GW1 and GW2 achievements should have stayed separate. Giving people bonuses in GW2 for being active GW1 players is in my opinion just plain wrong and unfair to the new players. In fact I would have removed the “Hall of Monuments” achievement category completely because even giving 2 points per tier for GW1 in GW2 is unfair.

Unique skills and titles should have been the only things that were rewarded to the GW1 players and nothing more.

3rd Party trading...

holodoc.5748

Direct trading/exchange existed (and still does) in GW1. It was a simple and effective way to exchange stuff between players while being pretty secure to use (scams were possible only if extremely incautious). In my opinion the very same system could work very well in GW2 but my guess is ANet doesn’t implement it because people would then have a way to circumvent Trading Post taxes. I would however welcome such a system because in all honesty there are situations where I simply wan’t to exchange stuff with people without using mail or risking being scammed.

I finally got the last goggle – after four days of trying and 37 attempts to land in the pool from the platform (take note, that’s 37 jump attempts not JP completions). I’ve been killed by hitting one pixel wide obstacles that shouldn’t have killed me in the first place, stuck in the rock nearby after simply using a portal to get back to the platform etc. etc. etc. And all that not by simply jumping without any clue (I’ve been using a personal waypoint to actually aim).

Does getting the achievement mean I’ve changed my opinion about introducing such exponential increase in difficulty for already existing achievements (hence achievements treadmill)? Absolutely not. I still stand by my opinion that it was completely wrong to introduce such a requirement in an almost unrelated achievement category.

Marriner plaques - why so many spoilers?

I was wondering what was the reasoning behind putting so many spoilers in Marriner plaque inscriptions? I bought both of the previous books and I really enjoyed them (especially “Ghosts of Ascalon”, that is one hell of a book!), now I am waiting for Amazon to deliver the third one (“Sea of Sorrows”) but after reading all of the plaque inscriptions I think I got all of the book’s content spoiled

My intention was not actually to read them at all but one of my characters was in real need of 5 skill points so I decided to see if reading the plaques was a viable solution to get them. Imagine my surprise when after reading the first couple of plaques I learned what was the fate of the main characters, what was the highlight of the book, who got to live and who to die o.O I get it that the plaques were meant to promote the new book but really why put so many spoilers when you probably know that some people might read the plaques (either accidentally or because of pure impatience)?

But what ANet could do is implement the exchange system which worked so well in the original Guild Wars. This system required of players to both confirm their exchanged/received items before the actual exchange was done. It worked flawlessly with exactly zero scam potential except in cases where players were extremely incautious.

Why they don’t do it in GW2 I can only guess but if I had to place my bet its simply because ANet doesn’t want people to circumvent trading post taxes etc.

Wear the goggles. Buy a revive orb from the TP. Drop. Die on an obstacle. Use Revive Orb. Win.

Aside from the fact that the jump itself is pretty bugged this doesn’t work because at the moment of the impact you’ll revert back to your regular armor and loose the “goggles state” which means you won’t be able to get the achievement. Believe me I’ve tried it.

A treadmill is something you have to keep doing. HAVE TO.

In most games with a treadmill, you can’t enter a new raid without specific gear, which you have to keep running the old raid over and over to get. That’s a tread mill.

In Guild Wars 2 people can get achievement points for doing dailies. They can get them for doing monthlies. They can get them from WvW, SPvP, doing dungeons, mindless killing, using specific weapons.

Even if you dont’ focus on achievements you’ll get SOME achievement points.

If you don’t want to get the goggles, don’t get them. If you want to get them, some mesmer will portal you up (it happens all the time) and you can skip like 90% of the puzzle.

But it’s not a treadmill. Once you get that achievement you have it, but it’s not tied to any achievement. In other words, you don’t need that specific achievement to progress.

That’s not a treadmill. A treadmill is by definition a process of constantly raising the requirements for a certain accomplishment, no matter if I have to fulfill it or not. So independently of my choice to pursue the requirements they are still being raised.

The new JP is hard, yes, but it’s hard because of learning the new mechanics and being very careful. As soon as you know what each thing does and the good, easy spots then it’s easy.

It’s like the Mad King puzzle. People freaked out over that and said it was difficult. It was not difficult all the way through until you learned. You just didn’t know where to go. As soon as you figured it out you could do it multiple times.

The only difficult AND unreasonable achievements in this game are the WvW achievements. Some of them will take years to properly do.

I get a feeling that my point wasn’t understood well. If you have an achievement with a fairly trivial 37 requirements yet the last one, which is required to complete the achievement, is miles harder than all the rest then something is simply not right there. Not to mention the fact that the last requirement requires of you to go even further than the puzzle chest itself and that the jump at the end feels almost as RNG.

As someone who had 37/37 achievement points before the new JP was released I must inform you that I lost 10 points when the new JP was released and I had 37/38 on the Dive Master Achievement.

You DO lose points if something new is added on an achievement line and you DO have to finish the new objectives to get your points back.

Essentially it means that if someone decides to take a break from the game for a couple of months he/she might be looking for hundreds of missing points after returning. A treadmill no matter how you look at it.

If you aren’t willing to put in the effort, time, blood sweat and tears..

Then you don’t deserve those achievement points. It’s as simple as that.

That’s why they’re called achievements. You dedicated yourself to achieving whatever it wanted you to.

Want Diving Master? Sure, then you’re going to have to do both the easy and difficult content to get it

I am fully aware what achievements are but on the other hand I also know what are unrealistic and misplaced requirements for obtaining them. Yes other places for the “Diving Master” achievement required doing some JPs but none of them were even remotely as hard as the new Aetherblade JP.

First off all let me say that I personally hate jumping puzzles because in my opinion they are poorly executed and plagued by camera and terrain issues which can be extremely annoying at times (please bear with me, this is not a JP rant). But I don’t complain about them because I generally avoid them whenever possible. JP’s are simply for people who are willing to invest time and nerves to learn every corner and jump by heart and since I am primarily a WvWvW player in all honesty I am not that keen at doing that.

Here is the real issue I am having. Since the announcement that achievement points will finally be useful for something I decided to go over all my unfinished achievements and try to finish some of them, especially those I’ve been dragging for months. One of them was “Diving Master”. I thought since I already got around 20/38 places it would be worth completing the achievement for additional 18 points. I went to Dulfy’s website to find all the goggles I’ve missed and simply completed 37/38 places. Imagine my surprise when I found out where the last diving google was – at the top of the most difficult JP in the history of the game, as claimed by many people who actually do JPs o.O

And it wouldn’t be so problematic for me since I do realize that it’s a game requirement to get the achievement. However, my issue is that by adding this new diving goggle to the “Diving Master” achievement people who didn’t finish the achievement until the introduction of the new JP are simply punished, especially if they don’t like JPs – hence the achievement treadmill. Why not simply add this diving goggle achievement as part of the “Sky Pirates of Tyria” achievement section and leave the original 37/37 requirement be? I mean how can my “Diving Master” achievement be the same compared to the one before the new JP if the requirements differ?

To make things worse even if you reach the goggles as I did with help from some mesmer friends you are not guaranteed to reach the water even if you jump from the platform in the exact way other people who got the achievement did. I’ve tried the jump about five times and every single time I got killed by hitting either an obstacle or missing the pool by a mile. To make things even worse the most ridiculous obstacle that got me killed was a 1px wide vertical net o.O

TL; DR Please stop adding new requirements for already existing achievements, especially if they completely contrast in difficulty and nature from other requirements to complete the achievement.

2) I did not specifically choose a location for filming but simply looked for the first high ground I could find after logging in to the game.

3) It seems that the “Invulnerable” text is much harder to see now however that doesn’t change the end effect in this case (read the video description).

@Tobias Trueflight
Dude, don’t be so lazy and ignorant. Use the search function above and type “invulnerable”. You’ll find at least two dozen search results for posts where people confirm mob invulnerability to happen for various reasons (one of them being the difference in terrain elevation). Do you play WvWvW? Are you aware of the bug where a simple defender could climb just 20 cm above ground on the hill behind Vale and be able to screw around with 30+ people attacking him because he would receive Invulnerable status (reason being for that – difference in terrain elevation). That bug was finally fixed about a month ago and anyone who actively played WvWvW during that time will confirm it. It happened always and unconditionally which is why it was heavily abused.

Essentially I won’t do video requests just to prove a single guy (or girl) something that he/she can read himself/herself on the official forums. In fact I will make a video which proves invulnerability caused by difference in terrain elevation just not now, but when I actually find some spare time. Until then enjoy your spotless gameplay and stop implying that people which do have invulnerability problems lie. Its plain simply rude.

Does not happen to me, and I’ve tried even the rocky, uneven terrain in Southsun Cove east. I’ve stood on rocks, and thrown axes down at Risen during trips in Orr. There has never been “obstructed” when a terrain feature clearly was in the line of fire or “invulnerable” ever.

I tested this. A lot. I gave up an entire hour running around and testing things people said give them this bug. The only one close was the Giant Arctic Jelylfish, which don’t go invulnerable but just leash back to start.

At this point, I’m calling BS unless you post a video.

You can call it whatever you like fact is a lot of players, including myself, are experiencing the invulnerability behavior on every day basis. When I get some free time I will make a video which clearly shows it happen but in the meantime you will have to satisfy your curiosity by simply searching these forums for the words “invulnerable” and “invulnerability”.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

holodoc.5748

I can’t even remember how many times I complained about the concept of mob invulnerability. It was the first thing that came to my attention as absolutely unacceptable behavior which I haven’t seen in any other game until the release of GW2. And not only that… As I already mentioned in a thread just a couple of minutes ago, the fact that people can’t shoot stuff if there is a difference in terrain elevation between the player and the thing he/she is shooting at is also unacceptable. A simple example… If I decide to step on a rock which is just 5 inches above the level of terrain on which a mob is the mob itself becomes immediately invulnerable to my shots.

There is also the story about knocking enemies down from high ledges like Kraits from ships wrecks (Krait witch anyone?)To cut the short story long, you can’t do that even if you wanted to. On the other side all the enemies which do have KB skills will be more than happy to knock down players from high ledges and (in most cases) bring them in a downed or even defeated state. That’s not fair! If I can’t KB an enemy over a high ledge I also wan’t them to be unable to do the same to me. Period.

Enemy health restoration

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: holodoc.5748

holodoc.5748

So I spent the last 20 minutes fighting a champion in Queensdale alone (champion boar) and just when I was about to defeat it it simply turned it’s back and got his health fully restored! Since this is not the first time I see enemies simply restore their health in the game I now have a question for the developers or whoever is responsible for designing the gameplay of Guild Wars 2.

On multiple occasions (including your Manifesto) you claim that your game will offer experienced players the possibility to engage in more difficult and challenging fights. I personally consider fighting a champion alone to be such thing. Now do you honestly think that its fair to fight an enemy for 20 minutes and just when its supposed to go down you game simply restores it’s health? I figured out that the health restoring process is triggered when a certain zone around the champ’s initial location is left but even if that’s the case how am I as a player supposed to know where that boundary lies? There are no borders on the map which indicate the zone in which players have to stay during fights in order to avoid triggering the enemy health restoration.

Is this intended behavior and if yes I would like to hear an explanation why is this happening. To be honest I don’t like these kind of restrictions. Not one bit. First you took from us the ability to knock down enemies from heights yet the enemy will be more than happy (and capable) to do so when its given the chance. Then you introduced the fact that players can’t shoot at enemies if there is a difference in terrain elevation which results in the infamous “Invulnerable” messages. For a game that claims to offer so much freedom GW2 sure has a lot of gameplay restrictions like these.

Original culling behavior has been restored.

As for daily WvWvW achievement conditions I would personally set something like 10 invader kills, 3 camps/outposts/keeps defended or captured and 30 supplies taken from supply camps and NOT from any of the outposts/keeps. Why this? Well too many people simply take supplies from outposts/keeps and are too lazy to tag along to the nearest supply camps effectively crippling defense capabilities of those outposts/keeps. The fact that the requirement says 30 supplies also means that the players would also need to use them

Developers should simply adopt the system used in most popular multiplayer games like FPS etc. I.e. introduce ranks which would be automatically assigned to players for accomplishing certain criteria like number of invaders killed, number of camps/outposts/keeps/garrisons capped etc.

To shed some light on practical implementation I would personally award the first rank to people killing 10 invaders, capping 5 camps ankittenep etc. The next rank would require 50 invader kills, capping 20 camps, 5 keeps etc. For the rank of Commander I would personally set a requirement of 1000 invader kills, 200 camps/ 50 outposts/ 20 keeps/ 5 garrisons capped and at least one successful siege of Stonemists Castle. After this achievement has been completed the player would simply receive something like a “Gift of the Commander” which would be a requirement aside from the usual 100g to receive the rank of Commander from that ugly guy in the Citadel.

Since GW2 already has an achievement infrastructure that can support this it would in my opinion be trivial to implement.

Autobalancing issues

So you really think its fair for the best player in a team to be “auto-balanced” (kicked is the more appropriate word) to the losing team just because he or she plays well?

I found myself millions of time working my butt off to earn some points for the team yet in the middle of doing well I get “auto-balanced” and all my earned points from the original team now work against me? Do you consider that to be fair? I don’t!

But the fact is things like Black Moa in GW1 were so well introduced into the game itself that I still remember every single detail about them. I mean you spend so much time on listening to horrible stories told by the people which encountered the Black Moa just to get a heart attack laugh when you find it and see for yourself how “horrible” the chick actually is

That’s the stuff I actually miss in GW2 cause every single “quest” is nothing more but baby sitting locals and filling out hearts. I miss the times when I had to go through the entire Kurzick zone just to find a kitten chicken

The good news is Valve is still Valve, for now anyways.

Not exactly true. Valve was once a game developer now their focus shifted towards acquiring teams that have potential to bring them even more money. Not to mention their gold mine called Steam which allows them to forget about stuff mortal players in the game industry need to worry about.

But that would mean players would be rewarded for smart play. We can’t have that.

That’s why ANET makes enemies go invulnerable if they can’t find their way to you. Or if they just feel like it.
That’s why ANET has made it impossible to knock enemies off ledges.

I’m partially joking, partially serious.

Hear hear! These are exactly the reasons why I am so pissed off about this game. If you play smart and choose tactical approach over brute force you will be punished! Period. In other words if you choose to climb on a rock in order to avoid a pack of wolfs attacking you there is no way on earth you will be able to attack them from that place because they become invulnerable. If you climb on one of those krait ship wrecks you wont be able to knock kraits down but they will be more than happy to do it to you (resulting in player’s death of course).

I really started to hate this game because of the direction in which it goes making every possible thing artificial. “Freedom to play the game you like it”? Which freedom?

The problem is their spit attack clearly ignores Invulnerability skills like Endure Pain which effectively defeats their very purpose.
