You’ll make having a High WvW Rank mean something…when lately it’s been feeling like it’s meaningless.

Most platinum players and higher have just farmed enemies in EotM or with their blobs in regular WvW…or they need to get a job or anything like this. I know a lot of hardcore players who are around 1.5k – 2k ranks because they normally try to avoid blobbing or EotM for some intense “small” scale fights or stuff like that.
There are also a lot of players within this range who are just new brain dead karma zombies so ranks are totally useless for determining if a players is hardcore or has skill or anything else.
It’s like the PvP rank: I have killed so many dragon rank roamers because a lot of them just farmed their rank and are now out there roaming with cheese condi builds and in addition they try to catch you off guard…there are some dragon ranks with no skill and some who are just a pleasure to fight.

This post! Anet wasn’t able to respond to anything regarding golem rush, they’ve locked a lot of players on servers without any warning – yeah there was a forum post but it was at least worth a real announcement or anything like this – within just 2 weeks…and the small fact that there isn’t a real development since release. Should this statement defuse the current situation? A wall of text and you are not even able to tell us anything new.

As I T1 commander in a large WvW guild, what I hear (i do not claim to speak for them or see the future, as some here do) is about 50/50, with many having no interest in that game based on development issues we have discussed amongst ourselves. Others I have heard say they are anxious to try it. But this is what I have heard from discussions with the player base on at the time I was in TS. Who knows that those who play at different times and in different demographics would have to say with the same discussion.

A lot of players are going to play CU. Especially players who weren’t playing GW2 for ages because of all those issues and almost no improvements. A big chunk of my old WvW guild is going to play CU, several roamers I know and almost every former WAR player I know. The current WvW community is rather casual so you’ll not hear a lot of discussions about this game. Let’s face it: a lot of former WAR and DAoC players are playing GW2 or killing time in other games because there is nothing to do right now.

Yes we have some people that run custom and not perfect builds, but this a) doesn’t apply to whole server, b) last time I checked people can run what they want, c) we play wvw to have fun and gvgs (or blobs vs blobs) to be competitive and d) you transfered off the server a few months ago, which I respect but please stop sprouting kitten about millers.

Go stack on one of the goldservers (you’re on piken aren’t you?) and enjoy your skillful staff #1 guard gameplay in 80vs80.

Yeah so I know what I’m talking about. The lower tier servers have problems which can’t be fixed by this ridiculous restriction. In the end there is no choice how you like to play WvW and just transfer to the server which fits best to your playstyle. Everything gets just mixed up and locked in place. The hardcore gamers will blame the casual for playing like they are braindead and the casual gamers will blame the hardcore players for killing their fun.

BTW I have left Piken because of all those bandwagongers who wanted to do exactly the one thing you described and now I’m looking for a new server…without bandwagoners or a kittenload of handholding casuals. I Guess I have to wait for a new RvR game.

Yeah we can blame serveral servers here like Miller’s for refusing to play like real WvWers and getting rid of any serious WvWer within one month. This server would be full with all those people who come and go.

The whole free transfert mess was because it was free for everyone. It would be beneficial if only TOWARDS low population servers.

Without free transfers the new mechanic will change things really, really slow. Who wants to pay for a transfer from T1 or T2 down to something like UW or FoW? I guess nobody…or maybe some drunken guys.
We need some bandwagoning to change the server populations or we have to wait for new players to fill up the lower tier servers…which will probably never change anything about the state of the full EU servers. They will stay full to the end of time without bandwagoning.

Our guild recently wanted to move to T2 for guild fights (we don’t PPT), we wanted to move to SoS, we didn’t want to go to YB but we had no choice, it was the only open server. Then we heard some T1 guilds were stacking on YB to move it to T1, and they managed to transfer here even through we had crazy queues already.

To put it short: WvW is a complete mess. You get the fights you’re supposed to in tier 1 and 2 only, and everyone is stacking there. It’s what you get when you leave a game mode unattended for over 2 years and don’t listen to the community outcry.

If Anet finally want to fix it then they shouldn’t do it with half-measures, get a full team working on it.

First things first: they’ve never confirmed if their little playgrounds will be large enough for GvGs. In addition to this fact: so fights only guilds should just stack on low pop servers, forget about regular zerging and try to get GvGs every night? They are on high tier servers for a reason: fights. If you have to face something like Miller’s or Dzagonur you are most likely laughing at them while you wipe them…for the first few fights…then you fall in great agony and start cuddling in your guild hall again waiting for the next GvG with a proper enemy.

Yeah because having to do hard decisions is what everybody has to do in GW2…not. You realized that about 50% of the WvW population are fair weather choo choo karma zombies, 25% are bandwagoners and about 25% are players who are really into WvW (just my experience from playing on several server across gold, silver and bronze league). Did you?

The casuals won’t care because they play just PvE or something else instead if they dislike the current MU. The bandwagoners are already on a server, they wanted to be and the WvW players are locked in place. What could change it? Should players start to plan mass transfers and take over low pop server without caring about the existing community? That sounds like a blast! Start playing WvW like a hardcore gamer or get off of the server you are playing since release!

Every public test, beta weekend or event always has an element of advertising to it. This is nothing new.

As for your thought that this is not a stress test, it still is a stress test; they will be packing the servers with the number of players they expect to be using the map during a matchup for WvW. If they find that there is too much lag during the stress test, they can reduce the player cap (which is what they have done for the current maps). Further, any bugs that are encountered will be identified and might be fixed.

Reducing the players cap is not the answer to any lag issues. They should fix it. There are other games having the same issues but they are working on it to get 500+ players in one map.
Cap the number of players in one map. Cap the “WvW” population of servers. What issues will this solve? None but it forces the players to spread across the servers or quit.

Before they patched the whole trait thingy you had to options on thief: go full zerker yolo mode or use a more balanced build. Full zerker is still there and the other build died because you have to kill your enemy before they kill you and it got quiet easy with all those changes to kill thiefs…

In the long term most of the actual hardcore WvWers will take a look at Camelot Unchained and Eternal Crusade. I guess at this point all the issues regarding WvW are solved.
We don’t look for a certain IP and we give a kitten about how much content you can play besides WvW/RvR. Such things won’t hold anyone of us.

This change will not work as intended. It will only make more WvWers quit the game. I was there…I’ve played on your “medium” servers. The numbers they have is not the problem. The problem is how they play.

Use ts at least while running with a public tag? nope. Playing builds which actually work in zergs and are not just bullkitten? nope. Organizing the server to move up in ranks? nope.

I’ve seen about 40 players joining one of these servers and within two months they’ve left again with about 60-80 players because everyone is sick of the “servers” mindset. Yeah they want to have more players but at the same time they want to do change anything. Leave them alone.
The server stacking in EU happened because of bandwagoners – yeah I have to admit it – and the hardcore WvWers who wanted to play some serious MUs and not this handholding perma losing kitten down there.

Just remove this system again and merge the last 12 servers into three. Problem solved.

Anet loves their streamers and PvP championship players. They are so easy to control. What did they say on their presentation about competitive gaming? Yeah right! “Give them the feeling they are something special an they are the best advertisement for this game”. xD

Yeah they’ve made it clear but I think they didn’t have thought about the consequences…AGAIN! So you have the low pop servers which are going to celebrate this change. Then you have guys like lil devils x and me stucked in a crappy situation because of this change. There are also servers like SFR with a bunch of second acounts sitting there to ktrain once a week.

It does not solve anything. Most of the low pop servers are low pop servers because of their mind set. Let’s take a look on Miller’s for example: they don’t want to play meta builds, they don’t want to have some people organizing the server, they just want to have “fun” even if every hardcore players has to lose because of this fact. They’ve lost several players due to this fact.
Will the changes affect them in any ways? Maybe but the guys who join Miller’s won’t be happy.

“Time” is a problem though during the time that people cannot play with friends or are logging into ghost town servers, we will be losing more players that " would have been" that will leave the game. The issue is this causes more problems than it solves unless the end goal was to have less players playing wvwv all together in the end.

Instead of telling your friends to come play with you , you will have to find a game you can actually play together now instead. For me to play with my Lil sis, we will have to play a different game instead.

^This. I can’t play with friends right now. Several guys asked me to transfer back to my last server but sry. I have to do dailies for a long time now and play other games until I can get back…but hey: I’ve got a lot of time now to watch Supernatural and all those anime I have on my ToDo list…and BnS NA/EU is going into beta soon.
I won’t keep playing a game with average PvE and PvP just because I love WvW what I can’t play as I enjoy anytime soon.

I hope algorithm is going to change things over the coming weeks. In the T9 I am in all the servers are medium yet we have a massive imbalance of player numbers. The population tiers feel to wide. Does it mean all medium servers will play each other at some point? The matchups are sooo stale atm

I want to know how their algorithm works right now. Riverside is declared as full but they don’t stand a chance against other servers because they have like 70% fair weather WvWers.

The funny thing about this change is: I wanted to take a break from my server because of all those bandwagoners joining the last few weeks and now I’m locked out because of them.

I guess I have some really bad timing and it’s just one person but I’ve spent several hundred bucks on this game because I like it. First I transfer to a lower tier server for roaming => golem rush event => wvw dead and now this change. Am I paying anet for slaps right into my face? xD

that’s not what I am talking about, guilds would form alliances not Anet, guilds within would have control over alliance composition, so it would strengthen the ability to play with whom you wished not weaken it.

What happens to people who are unguilded, but an integral part of the existing community? I know tons of people who are in small or solo guilds and losing them in the shuffle would not be good.

Actually look at it this way: an alliance is an open structure, meaning it could contain 4 guilds of each 100 players, or it could contain 20 guilds with 20 players.

Often, players that are guildless BUT work together with guilds often see themselves as a an integral part of their “server”. In an alliance they could just be categorized in a sub-group of the alliance like “lone wolves”, that doesn’t work like a guild (no ties, no guild chat…), but allows them to have a place in the alliance anyways.

Yeah and guilds love randoms…this won’t work.

Condition damage can be ridiculous op sometimes after the patch. Anet wanted to give condi builds a chance in the current PvE setting that’s why everything got changed and buffed. They don’t care about how it works in WvW. I think there was also some statement about “trying to make no difference between WvW, PvP and PvE skillwise” in one point of interest show…up to three versions of one skill could be so confusing…and is sometimes needed!

All condition builds are beatable but you will sometimes need to have a certain set of skills or you’re kittening screwed. Most of the former cheese builds have evolved to pure kittening cancer builds but hey: we won’t see any changes for a long time and especially not because of how something works in WvW. They’ve balanced it in PvP with their fixed gear options. Problem solved.

I really liked a suggestion about altering the maps slightly so you had moving front-lines. Basically so that you knew where the fights where, if you had pushed the enemy out of your BL it would be locked until they broke in again. So you knew the fights would be in EB for example, trying to open up the way into your BL again.

Kinda like they did in Warhammer Online. I never understood why Anet didn’t used this idea. It was really fun and made numbers matter less. If you have to fight in a certain zone, you can defend easier. Currently you just lose against other servers having bigger numbers. They ktrain on every single map and you have to decide what to defend and what not but in the end they flip everything just because they rush your objectives.
That’s why I only zerg on reset. The rest of the time I’m out there roaming because I’m sick of all the ppt/ktrain mentality.

Well boycotting the game in the state that Anet left it for this week is the best message to send to Anet, altho I’m quite sure they don’t really care.

They don’t have to care because of servers like the one I’m playing on now. Almost perma queue on EB and several queues during prime time. We’ve had more players than normal – at least when I watched the queues because I refused to play regular WvW at all – and this is kinda sad.

My guild will return and do what they did before the event was started, but it certainly changed some things for us. There will be a lot more LoL/Hearthstone/BnS action going on and less GW2 because we realized how boring this game is without WvW.

I will play through the kitten expansion, pick a new main (after all those new specializations), grind this char to 100% map completion, do all the living story stuff coming along, roam like I always did, maybe join another guild for zerging again and wait how WvW will develop with HoT.
If nothing changes I will hop over to BnS – which is released this winter – and just come back for some quick roaming action or a reset night with old friends.

A Net may have failed to axe this mistake but the players managed to come through. I have had two days of decent, even good, WvW thanks to a gentlemen’s agreement to just not use the kitten things.

Well, in addition to the GvG that we know is coming to guild halls…. just a reminder for those of us who feel abandoned by Anet, maybe Alliances are coming and that would be pretty awesome.

If the guild hall arenas really fit the need for a GvG – and only IF -, they’ve still missed a big point: now you can just join OS and watch the GvGs. In GW you were able to watch them ingame via an extra viewer.
So what happens if guild halls will be used for GvGs? Do we have to hope for someone to record it and load it up to youtube?

Watched the queues on Riverside all day long…maybe I’ve missed some free beers or something like that. This is the only explanation for all those queues.

The way ArenaNet goes about handling the community is awful, in my opinion. Sure, it’s one thing to say you don’t want to promise things and then renege on that and disappoint people hence everything they’re doing being shrouded in mystery, but not communicating with the playerbase at all is hardly a better alternative.

You have to option to fine tune your stats. You’ve got food…and in case of thief: the revealed debuff is shorter. It is not a dumbed down version like Anet did with PvP for “esport”.

My server is going wild on this event because they want to farm their little heart out like good karma zombies do. It’s disgusting to see a once top server losing more and more quality. They can’t win an even fight but it seems like no one can beat them in this ktrain golem game.

What else should we do? Only give positive feedback to bait them into a trap so we can actually talk with them? Do you have any idea how to communicate with them or should we just all shut up if we’ve nothing nice to say?

There is no communication going on – besides the lag thingy – and I think this is frustrating everyone here. There are at least two mmos in development which focus on RvR. One looks more like a very strategic slow paced fantasy mmo and the other one like a brutal fast paced scifi mmo. They should be able to fit each WvWers taste.

Should we wait until they are ready to be released and hope they function as a wakeup call for Anet?
