Sounds good overall, would be a huge improvement. A few thoughts:
- Why more points for Solo compared to Team?
- Unrated Queue: When you say 1-5 party members, you mean dedicated servers for for example 3v3? ’cause 4v5 would still be no fun in any scenario…
Maybe you misread? Team queue gives 1500 rank pts, solo gives 1000 (same as it is right now)
1-5 party members means that in unrated queue, you can join with a full party, a partial party or by yourself (similar to the current rated team queue). All this would mean is that people who want to queue with a friend or a few friends would be able to in the “Unrated queue”. Matches would still be determined by hidden MMR.
After reading and posting on the subject of how queue types should be arranged, and the debate over the existence of hotjoin, these are my most important suggestions for how the queue system should be reworked. These changes aim to alleviate frustration from both newbies and veteran players.
1. Rated team queue: The ‘serious’ queue with TotSS, Khylo, Niflhel, Foefire. 1500 rank point rewards
2. Rated Solo Queue: Solo play only with TotSS, Khylo, Niflhel, Foefire. 1000 rank point rewards
3. Unrated Queue: Casual queue with anywhere from 1-5 party members. TotSS, Khylo, Niflhel, Foefire, Spirit Watch, Skyhammer. 750 rank point rewards
4. Hotjoin is maintained as an 8v8 game mode on a number of public custom arenas. Maybe on the new deathmatch arena. Hotjoin rewards 250 rank points per win.
5. Hotjoin is now manual join from the server list only and the “Play Now” now is changed to the “Unrated Game” button.
6. New players must be at least rank 20 to participate in Ranked Queues
7. New players MMR starts out at 25%, meaning they have to work their way up the leaderboards and are not immediately paired with top players
It’s unfortunate that all teams cannot be accomodated, but at least 64 on each region is a sizeable bracket.
I would prefer leaderboard ranking to be factored in directly to those who get to participate in the tournament.
IE: It would be kind of sad if a team of randoms ranked in the 40% got chosen over a new team in the top 200 that blu just hadn’t heard of.
This trait is the epitome of a ‘crutch’ used by inferior engineer players especially in solo queue.
Also, this change will lead to less condition spam because the terrible engineers using it to spam nades/bombs all over points while at 20% health will now be dead.
Well, stealth killshot thief might add at least a hundred hours of hilarious troll capability to WvW.
Shortbow is one of the strongest, most streamlined weapons in the game.
Autoattack does great DPS for a multitarget attack and wrecks mesmers
Clusterbomb a spammable blast finisher that does a ton of damage. You can use this to blast the poison field for AoE weakness or Pistol #5 for stealth, or stolen Ranger water field for an enormous amount of healing.
Disabling shot… a spammable EVADE with cripple. Amazing for kiting.
Choking Gas very good in team/ group fights, especially on downed bodies.
Infiltrator’s Arrow is great mobility both horizontal and vertical.
Poison Master should be changed to reduce healing by 66% and increase damage to 700-1.2k a tick
ROFL
I mean seriously, it’s been like this for ages… and seems to work in some forums and not others….
Not trolling but maybe I didn’t think things through clearly. I get your point. But I also think it would be a shame if newbies come to the pvp and just get demoralised by being trashed 500-0 or by practicing and then being told that sorry they didnt get a place because they weren’t “known”.
In short, this tournament SHOULD cater to the casuals and newbies imo. It is what the game needs
I agree with this. And who is to say someone is known or not? I doubt he knows Karmy and his SW guildies, or June guild, or UC, or many, many others who definitely have a decent chance of beating everyone, including “known” teams.
Also, I believe that Anet guys would organise this much, much better. At least they are not teenagers and have way more experience with this. I hope they will get inspired and host the next one, properly.
But I still have hope that this one will work out. Let’s see if it will be what it was advertised to be or it will be some type of yet another boring invitational with same teams as always.
Disagree, it can be organised well by the community especially with Blu who is really good. So I dont think anything needs to change in that respect.
But I had kind of hoped this tournament would bring new players into pvp from pve and wvw. I would love if this was the aim of the tournament. But if they aim is simply to reward those most hardcore players then fine. That is cool too, just a missed opportunity from my point of view.
The best 2/3 players I have ever play with or against are all people who rarely PvP but spend most of their time in WvW or PvE. And I have played with or against everyone of any renown in PvP. The fact is PvE and WvW have a way bigger player base so it is no surprise that the absolute best/most talented guys come from these game modes. The problem is that the barrier to entry for them is huge and they tend to love rewards. If this tournament could bring these people, and others who aren’t as talented, into spvp (finally) then we could really see esports get going.
First of all, I have no idea who you are, and im certain I have never lost to you or your “renown” friends. Secondly the reason Pvers dont play PvP is because they are inclined to continue clicking their skills. As far as WvW, there is little to no skill required in zergs and roamers are still not near the lvl of pvpers. WvWers rely on broken stats and gear, and are quite inferior to PvP. Even guilds like Apex, which was orignally PvP only has transitioned to WvW because they were not top tier pvpers. However in WvW they are very good.. You WvWers and PvErs will soon learn your place in the skill heirachy.
-Backpacknot gonna say I’m disagreeing but I’m disagreeing. just look at caed and toker, tons of wvw thieves can beat them 1v1 8+/10 times.
Caed and Toker play viable PvP builds and wud wreck anyone that matches spec. And if for some reason they need too, they could adapt to the shadow arts handicap, but for now that is useless top tier pvp… Cruuk was probably the best regen thief that played this game and I guarantee he would dominate any WvW thief at the game of cat and mouse…. and if stats were balanced in wvw no thief would run regen if they planed on killing something other than a misquito
Your confidence in PvP players is hilarious. PvP is decided by running to empty points. Primarily that is what wins. Combat takes a huge back seat to this “pro” tactic. In WvW at least combat is the primary factor in success or failure. The people there simply fight and have practice in fighting which gives them the edge (in many cases) over player vs pointers in spvp.
I say it again, I have played against or with anyone who is anyone in spvp. Either in solo q or a team q. And yet the best people I have fought have been in WvW. That is an unpopular opinion on the spvp forum. I get that. But maybe it is time to wind the egos in a bit. PvP players are big fish in small ponds. There are better players in WvW. And this isn’t from a WvW player. This is from an almost exclusive pvp player who has played enough to grind multiple accounts up to the very top of leaderboards multiple times.
You buy multiple alts because you arent good enough to actually play consistently and be at the top of the leaderboards it sounds like.
The primary factor for success in WvW is who has the most coverage and who can bang down doors the fastest.
To say that combat isn’t the primary factor in who wins a PvP match is absurd.
Are Engineers even aloud to play this?
If so, Out of our two weapon choices I suppose the pistol’s Explosive Shot leaves much more to be desired.
Engineers are definitely allowed to join in the discussion, and kits are up for discussion too
Fresh MMRs need to be rock bottom. This is a really big problem, and probably the most pure and important take-away from this thead.
I agree, the leaderboards would become at least slightly credible if you had to work your way up rather than getting lucky and randomly ending up in the top 100 because your starting MMR was 500 and you had a couple of great players on your team.
@Rezz,
I would prefer if all teams were allowed to compete and were eliminated fairly. However: All new teams have a chance to participate in both the weekly ESL and Mistpedia NA tournaments. The fact is that a team who struggles to be ranked in the top 1,000 of the leaderboards will get absolutely crushed by top teams in this tournament.
I’m expecting there to be ~200 teams by the cut off date for registration, which is quite a lot of matchmaking and game observation that would have to be done by the admins. I think when Arenanet planned this tournament they obviously were not expecting this level of interest.
What would be nice is that any team with the majority of the players in the top 200-300 gets a free pass into the tournament and then anyone below this still has a chance to qualify in a series of preliminary rounds hosted a week beforehand.
114? 60 per region already…
If I signup till 14th well still get equal treatment on whatever criteria they later decide right?
yes, when you signup (so long as it’s done before the cutoff) will not affect your chances of getting in.
Is current leaderboard placement of your team members important for whether or not you get in? It’d be kinda sad to see teams with members in the top 200 being tossed out for people who have never played before.
Thats in regard what I’d do with the traits to make my proposed suggestions possible:
Under Critical Strikes
Merge Keen Observer together with Opportunist and name it Opportunist.
Add then as new Master TraitPrice of Demoralization
Your Dancing Daggers will steal up to maximum 3 Boons now instead of 2 and you share your stolen Boons now with up to 5 nearby allies.Merge Furious Retaliation with Pistol Mastery under Furious Retaliation
Add then as new Adept Trait“Precise Assasination”
Increases the Range from Heartseekers and adds to the functionality a Line of Sight-Ground Targeting Mechanic to make its usage more comfortable and precise/accurate in the execution. This way will become D/D Thiefs also a better Group Support from the shared stolen Boons they could provide in battles.
Lmao. I can’t tell if you are trolling or actually think these changes are in any shape or form balanced.
Do you even understand how powerful boon steal is? Obviously not.
@Orpheal, Your suggestions are absurdly overpowered.
@Original Post:
Torment instead of bleeds on Death Blossom with increased power damage but also a 1-2 higher initiative cost might help d/d both as a power and as a condi set.
Dancing Dagger is simply awful and should have increased damage and more accurate projectile
CnD should have reduced initiative given that it’s melee and has a reasonable cast time/tell.
Honestly the entire longbow doesn’t make sense to me, it’s a totally unfocused weapon; what they should do is rework it into a long range AoE weapon and give us a rifle to use as a high damage single target weapon.
This^
They could take literally every skill except for #5 on Longbow, put it on rifle, and then give us a brand new longbow ideal for skirmishing and wvw with more AoE.
Hi everyone, I’ve been thinking about what the weakest kits/weapons are for the classes I play for a while. I was wondering what other people think about the weakest sets on their class.
These are my top picks for what could be improved weaponwise on the classes I play:
Ranger:
1. Greatsword: Hits like a wet noodle. The biggest hitting skill “Maul” does about the same damage as the last hit in the thief sword autochain while being extremely telegraphed.
Honorable Mention: Mainhand Axe, autoattack is pretty dreadful damage scaling, barely dealing 1k with over 3300 power. The weapon is OK in condition builds, but generally shortbow is better.
Thief:
1. Offhand dagger: Dancing dagger is pretty pathetic damage and not even guaranteed to bounce. Cloak and Dagger is a huge risk against all targets since evades and blocks are so prevalent. Compared to pistol offhand, dagger just doesn’t cut it.
Honorable mention: Pistol/Pistol, overall a very weak kit when compared to D/P or S/P. Very little synergy
Necromancer:
1. Axe: Very bad damage on the auto attack for being single target and short range. This attack feels like it should cleave. Axe 2 and 3 are alright, but nothing special.
Ah, the sight of a dead decap engie. Glorious
Edit: Congratulations to whoever the person was who killed him!
idk how many games i lost becose someone was afk on close and enemy team just ignored him whole game
What I do:

Bugs
- Often the orb carrier icon disappears or never appears on the map.Map Architecture
- Guarding the middle point, Raven, is difficult because there isn’t a good line of sight for incoming players unless you’re far off point.
- The various ramps and stairs cause numerous pathing issues for teleports and charges.Orb Mechanics
- As long as the orb doesn’t normalize stats and disable all profession-specific abilities, there will always be a best profession for carrying the orb. Currently it’s warriors.
- When you have a tanky person carrying the orb and are ahead, it’s very hard to lose. The orb carrier is hard to delay and even harder to kill, and defending the orb and point while running it quickly is better than trying to hold two points, especially with the spawn being closer to the orb than the middle point.I would suggest that the orb change to a decap-oriented mechanic, rather than giving extra points for returning it to one of your own nodes. That allows it to be a boost primarily for the team that’s losing the node control fight. I would aid them in turning the tide. Close matches with point swings are the most fun to watch and play.
That is actually a really cool idea… instead of giving points, carrying the orb gives you an automatic neut on the point you carry it to. It would actually be a counter to the bunker 2 cap auto-win that we see in a lot of games.
There’s a reason why nobody takes a staff Ele in high level competitive PvP. Everything an Ele can do, others can do better – and is much less of a risk.
DD 0/0/10/30/30 bunker cantrip Ele can’t be considered “viable” anymore in competitive tPvP. That build has roughly 14k HP with around 2.6k armor which can’t be considered tanky at the current meta where Thieves deal massive damage with just a few clicks of a button (most top tier teams usually have a thief in their lineup). Healing only works if you can survive long enough to actually take advantage of your sustain healing.
One of the best NA teams is currently running a staff ele.
Everyone below rank 39 stays the same rank.
Every rank up after 39 takes 20k rank points
Rank 55 becomes 80, rank 50 ~70, rank 45 ~55, rank 40 still rank 40
Maybe if you wanted a more mobile class you shouldn’t have picked the heavy armor white mage archetype ^.^ not known for being particularly nimble
To begin with, how is it possible in mmo history where a Heavy Set warrior class run fast/er than a cheetah?
also…
How is it possible for a Heavy Set warrior to be the Undisputed King of Speed than the Light Set 125 pound cheetah?
" This is Why You Can’t Outrun a Cheetah "
Of course
see> Warriors
You are 100% right burnfall… Guardian mobility is fine as it is, warriors are way too fast.
Maybe if you wanted a more mobile class you shouldn’t have picked the heavy armor white mage archetype ^.^ not known for being particularly nimble
PvP destroyer weapons are made from Pheonix Tokens in the mystic forge.
After the patch you will be able to use pve destroyer weapons (which costs ~20g) in pvp.
You can buy them on the trading post or craft them in pve
Have you ever encountered a double endure pain berserkers stance gs/ sword warhorn warrior on this map?
The biggest thing you should know about thief for sPvP purposes is this:
Your role is to end the fights your teammates start very quickly.
The number one thing I see beginner thieves do is try and fight 1v1s on enemy capped nodes. The fact is that thief is best played as hard to avoid burst on a target already engaged in a fight with other teammates.
As a beginner thief, generally the best plan of action is to stick between home and mid and burst down people, and only go far if you see it’s open and you can get a quick decap.
You aren’t playing a strong build like hambow or dhuumfire necro.
You are playing a broken build which aims to specifically take advantage of the fact that more often than not a solo queue roster won’t have the right builds/classes to counter your miserable spec.
I think everyone knows that Nary Why Irk is a skyhammer farmer already who wants to be rewarded for jumping down into a hole after spamming AoE a thousand times in a row.
He should actually be banned for a few weeks and have his rank reset to 1 for admitting to match manipulation.
When did he admit to match manipulation?
Also no, you don’t get banned for reporting someone if the report is based on some evidence.
In the above quoted posts he admits to skyhammer farming which is a form of match manipulation for sure.
If you have any proof or evidence please submit it to exploits@arena.net
Good evidence would be the quotes of you saying you farmed skyhammer, and the fact that you have a tiny amount of games played compared to other rank 70s.
Also, what does you playing decap engi have to do with you farming skyhammer? A high rank on the solo queue boards means what, exactly? That you abuse a broken build to take advantage of people who can’t counter comp you?
You’re a decap engi skyhammer farmer. LOL

I’ve bought two sets of phalanx, two sets of krytan, and two pairs of Toxic Glove Skins.
With the new addition of the wardrobe, essentially I purchased 1400 gems worth of skins that I now have permanently unlocked.
Is Arenanet honoring the fact that these duplicate purchases are now pointless? If there is a way to get a gem refund, how do I go about doing this?
Thanks!

People saying that thief needs more risk added to them should try playing one.
Couldn’t had said it any better myself. If they mean the ones not even in combat then thats common sense they cant perma stealth while fighting.
If you think thief is risky, you’re playing it wrong.
Just curious if power necro is tourney viable I am going for my next champ title which is phantom and absolutely despise condition builds I think they are nothing more than mindless spamming…. So is there a viable power necro build? I was thinking axe/focus+dagger/warhorn 30/10/0/0/30
It’s really ignorant to say that power builds require skill and condition builds are mindless spamming.
The fact is the best power necro build is power wells which involves placing giant wells on point, spamming death shroud 1, spamming Lich form 1.
I forgot to mention that this idea would also reward currently high ranked players who have won thousands of games on their main class with a cool title that most players below 60 do not have yet.
By this, do you mean to make it retroactive so that the thousands of games are rewarded?
well yeah, all the tournament games you’ve played so far would be factored in to whether or not you get the title
I forgot to mention that this idea would also reward currently high ranked players who have won thousands of games on their main class with a cool title that most players below 60 do not have yet.
With the new rank system, dragon will become achievable for anyone who plays GW2 pvp consistently for ~1 year.
I think it would be cool if Arenanet made a new tier of class titles based on tournament wins.
These titles could be placed at the 1,000 win mark in tournaments.
Would you consider titles like this an incentive to keep playing a class after you reach the champion title?
This idea would be super easy to implement and I think 1,000 tournament wins is a more skill based achievement than rank, showing that you’ve played a lot in a serious game mode on a class and won a substantial number of games with it.
Awesome, this patch keeps getting better
The Soule example in your original post sounds highly sampled/edited.
The Leif/Mclain example sounds like basically organic orchestra sound with far less editing. If by, “buy better woodwind samples” you mean get a better woodwind player, then yeah, I agree. He/she was very out of tune on the melody in that piece.
Spirit Rangers don’t even run settler’s.
Playing the kittening game.
yes they do, carrion sucks for holding points
I would much rather the Rangers on any team I run in, to use Carrion. All the best Rangers in PvP use Carrion. Kind of how all the good Engineers use Rabid. Not Settlers.
Spirit Rangers don’t even run settler’s.
Playing the kittening game.
Currently, if you are rank 71, when the patch hits, you will become rank 80, and receive 9 reward chests.
If you are rank 55, when the patch hits, you will become rank 80, and receive 25 reward chests.
Now, obviously this is not fair to the people who are higher level. They SHOULD get more chests than a rank 55, since they have done more work.
Rather than using this method, I propose that Arenanet gives 1 chest for every rank over 39 that a player is before the patch hits.
In other words, a rank 55 gets 16 chests, and a rank 71 gets 32 chests.
*I’ve talked to one dev who said that fully retroactive chests w/ rollover is not a possibility (this idea would give rank 70s hundreds of chests). *
My method isn’t as nice as rollover, but it’s easy to implement and AT LEAST a bit more fair than giving lower ranks more chests than high ranks.
I’m fully behind the idea that ranks need to be rescaled to be more accessible to new players and give an incentive to average players, but, the idea that a rank 70 gets less chests than a rank 55 and they both end up rank 80 just seems like a slap in the face.
This^
Arenanet, please give Bhagwad a “Hotjoin Hero” title!
Then give him, “I Grind So Hard” at 15 million rank points!
That way, he will stop spamming the forum, and contentedly grind his way until he reaches 15m rank pts for his title.
If you’re having trouble in PvE as a warrior, I have no idea what to say. I’m speechless.
come on anet. r70 make it dragon.
Are you kidding me? You have like half as many games played as a lot of 70s. By your own logic, why do you think you should be rewarded the same as they are?
Give me a title/mini/visible rank and I’ll do it. The idea is for everyone to be able to see the achievement. Personal satisfaction is not enough.
^Ever considered that you might be a minority and that people actually do want to play an MMO with ridiculous amounts of grind?
The fact is that what you see as prestige, others just see as a grind. Do you really think people are going to respect you because you played ten thousand games of conquest? Just because you think you look cool with a shiny finisher, doesn’t mean other people give two kittens about it.
Anyone can go get a high rank very fast now simply by forcing autobalance in hotjoin and farming 100% wins while semi-AFK.
I respect the people who are actually good at this game and who work together well on teams. Not people who have a lot of games played, and even less for people who have lots of games played and nothing to show for it other than a finisher.
If it means nothing, then let those of us who want it, have it! According to you it doesn’t matter anyway so everyone’s happy. Is there a downside to this?
The whole point of my post is this: because rank doesn’t have anything to do with how good you are as a player, it doesn’t need to be exclusive or reserved for only 10 players out of a playerbase of thousands. Leaderboard/ ladder placement based on performance should be the basis for exclusive rewards.
On the flip side, a more attainable ranking system is also nice for new people entering PvP and gives them a sense of progression. Right now the current ranking system encourages absolute nolifing in a game touted for no grinding. This change brings it more in line with the rest of the game, and makes PvP more accessible for average players
If you want to grind, perhaps you should go to Runescape and level up your cooking experience to 200M. Maybe people will be jealous of your ‘achievement’ there.
