Uh, I see a lot of people running builds with a good balance between survivability and offensive capabilities. That’s better than a glass meta or bunker meta imo.
1. Full melee will never really be optimal for WvW or PvP. It lacks the ability to contribute to small skirmishes/ team fights effectly. It’s ok for 1v1, but many classes such as Mesmer or P/D thief will be able to kite you very effectively.
2. If I were you, I’d much rather take Martial Mastery from Wilderness survival (reduced cooldown on Sword/Greatsword skills) than Signet of the Beastmaster. This will also give you the protection on dodge roll minor trait, which is strong against thieves in particular.
3. I would exchange Forest Spider for Jungle spider for the very valuable venom immobilize.
4. I would exchange Signet of the Wild for Signet of Renewal (for the extra condi cleanse and stunbreak) or Signet of the Hunt, making you and your pet more mobile.
5. I would definitely change Troll Unguent to Healing Spring. You have 3 leap finishers on your weapon sets and one blast finisher, that’s an extra 6k healing if you perform all of them inside of your Healing Spring.
Here’s more proof of how bad the matchmaking is. Not even remotely close match, and this is my second one today. The other team had 3 rank 80s and we had someone stomping with a bunny finisher. How is this even remotely fair?!
PvP shows PvE level in the party UI currently…
You can’t report afkers, the clowns who report for " botting" will eventually get banned for submitting false reports.
Actually, Anet devs have confirmed that the best way to report afkers is to report them for botting. At least, the ones I’ve spoken to
Currently the scoreboard is silly.
BUT:
If the scoreboard showed damage taken, damage given, healing output to allies, boons given…it would be amazing
Also, the death credit system should work in the same way LoL’s does, where whoever does the most damage gets credit for the kill. This would add extra excitement to the game from a viewer perspective if people could watch and think “Oh wow, so and so’s warrior is on a Rampage!”

So…you’re proposing a redesign of a feature to accommodate your efforts to bypass getting the original loot assigned to you?
Sounds like they should fix the loot so that ignoring the chests wasn’t encouraged or beneficial.
P.s. It’s not cool to use medical diagnosis for stereotyping annoying characteristics and even if it was, I don’t think you really know what ADHD is.
Uh, you can bank the chests and then open them on a level 80 character and they will reward level 80 loot. There is no effort to ‘bypass’ anything, the chests were designed so that new players couldn’t receive level 80 loot, but players with level 80 characters could pvp on any character they want and still get level 80 loot.
For the past couple of days I’ve been experiencing massive skill lag and DCs only in the HotM.
Anyone else getting this?
I’m on NA, jade quarry
You wouldn’t believe the amount of times I get told off because the person I am trying to get to stomp, res, cap, etc said “I have a legendary l2p the game noob”, Then I ask what their sPvP rank is and they say “Rank 16 what do you know scrub?”
I’ve literally never had this happen to me.
I’m also only rank 34 or something like that currently, and yet I somehow am able to easily maintain top 200 solo queue (disregarding decay) while exclusively playing mesmer. What does that say with regards to rank meaning skill?
Hmmm… I just searched for you on gw2score.com and they’ve never heard of you ^.^
Also, what is an athiest?
Ah yeah, you’ll want to search for Pyroatheist.9031
This account is my forum alt.
I actually just found your alt, which is why I edited my original post. What you do on your alt is pretty much the easiest way to boost your rank by waiting 4-5 days inbetween matches. I used this method on my alt and achieved rank 6 sq fairly easily. Playing daily I would not have gotten close to that rank.

Why are Rangers bad for zerging/gvg?
1. Your pet dies.
2. Your attacks deal bad damage, with low amounts of CC.
3. You’re most common boon is regeneration (also the weakest boon for group fighting)
4. You have almost no AoE of any consequence. Don’t get me started on traps. They are bad for group fighting.
5. Any support you could give comes in the form of instadead spirits or instadead pets.
Why are rangers good for zerging?
They aren’t, but healing spring is nice.
Ranked Solo queue should definitely have a rank limit. 20 is pretty low, I would probably put it at rank 25 or 30.
My original suggestion was rank 30, and I know someone like myself could get to rank 30 within a week, but many casual players take a couple weeks to even get rank 20 so 30 might be too high. 25 definitely sounds feasible.
Yep, and to be honest I think many casual/newbies would actually rather unlock their achievements/titles by playing in an unranked queue. It would be a healthier starting environment. Better for new players, better for vets.
Justin, the number one thing you can do right now to improve match making is put a rank limit on rated queues, and start out new players with a much lower MMR.
I wasn’t too disappointed with the dragon finisher. It’s a bit small, but overall the animation isn’t bad and I definitely like it better than Bear/Pheonix.
I would have preferred a dragon finisher with a fire theme that was like the dragon firework from the first LotR fireworks, but again, I think the dragon finisher would have always been underwhelming due to the size limits of finishers.
Right now, in NA especially, I find that more matches are decided by which team has a really inexperienced player than who plays the best in general.
I’ve been playing more solo queue matches on EU recently and it seems better there, although I’m not sure why that is in particular.
Also, I like your idea of the queue system.
Unranked queue should replace the ‘Play Now’ button. It should have better rewards than hotjoin and really encourage new players to learn the conquest mode as it was intended.
Ranked Solo queue should definitely have a rank limit. 20 is pretty low, I would probably put it at rank 25 or 30.
On a side note, it would be cool if guilds could earn influence and possibly even guild commendations by pvping together in ranked team queue. This would encourage the growth of more pvp guilds/communities.

I’ve been getting crazy lag…but only in Heart of the Mists… the games are fine for me, both during EU and NA prime times (I have two accounts)
Uh good luck running 3 turret engi against anything with moderate CC. Also, an IP engi can kill a warrior with condis…I’d say you need a bit more than moderate condi cleansing lol
yeah, i know ppl dont think much of it (x3 turret). but i’ve been playing it myself for few days and also played against it. btw, in that link it still carries rifle, p/s is even better (you mentioned cc, there is some survival). its good both single target and team fight.
In hotjoin, correct?
I run builds in hotjoin that I wouldn’t consider even remotely viable and I can still 2v1 with them. It’s a completely different world than team queue
they are strong but not op.
incendiary powder grenade play is boring but with moderate condi cleansing cant kill you.
one build i’d watch is x3 turret engi

@dahkeus
positioning means nothing in this game with all that stealth and port and even z-axis ports! so having a longbow ranger sitting out of supportrange to pew pew begs for an easy stomp for thiefs or mesmers. at this point this place is a burden for the team.another important fact. your build provides nothing to the team and with your positioning u gain nothing.
A ) Just because classes that generally fill the roamer role can port to a ranger doesn’t mean that the ranger is helpless against them.
B ) Rangers give knockbacks, cripple, immobilize and vuln from range. Wolves also provide fear and you can easily step in for a stability stomp when RaO is up. In other words, you can easily knock enemies off point and keep them there while also being able to prevent stomps/rezes.
C) The gain of the positioning is negating the AoE conditions/CC that many of the meta builds are currently spamming.
1. RaO is the easiest boonsteal/corrupt in the game. RaO should have its cooldown halved, and the boons it gives halved as well to make it worth taking.
2. cripple and vuln from range? why not take a warrior and have massive burn fields, 5k aoe arcing arrows, bleed from range… or necro, poison, bleed, chill, fear, condi transfer from range… or staff ele…meteor shower, massive aoe heal, down cleave, static field. OH, and all these things have more damage mitigation than Survival of the Fittest power ranger.
that and:
A. a ranger longbow/gs ranger is helpless against them. all viable roamer (aka thief) will have no problems with a powerranger (in fact a semipower). what u wanna do? use rao? well it gets stolen. blow your only stunbreak? blow your survival skills to cleanse blind? well to bad it all happens again few seconds later! use knockback to have him be right in melee 1 second later? use gs-block that in 99% will not hit? use maul? use your stun on gs during the high evade-times or against blind? good luck.. beating noobs with a build doesnt make it viable.
B. high stability uptime on other classes says hello! aoe cleanses during a group fight says hello! to bad you will having nothing like that cause u positioned yourself out of supportrange! also u seems to ignore that all your “RANGE” attacks are only single target (except lol-aoe skill nr5 on bow and with piercing arrows->bad if you positioning yourself to high to hit the ground behind your target) and wide behind the dmg other classes/roamer can deliever if they arent AOE.
C. yeah u negating some dmg or cc. but on the same side you deliever nothing to your team and getting nothing. also you are out of supportrange. what u wanna do if a thief ports to u? run into the group to die because you have no defense? or peel of in the false hope of outrunning a thief (lol good luck with that) and furhter increase the range where ppl can help u?
to sum it up. this build provides nothing to the team except some singletarget dmg from far away, that is below what other classes can deliever. is helpless against most other classes/builds (even 1vs1) and just gets carried from other players. that alone lets you believe its viable.
to this i can only say; Roll ranger and l2P. It is that simple to counter any “viable” spec.
Yeah yeah, you play WvW and kill uplevels and people running zerg builds. So power ranger is viable.
I would love to go out and pay for a boxed expansion to this game with new classes, races, weapons, spells and areas

magic find has nothing to do with champ boxes. it only affects the quantity of droped loot from npcs
srsly this is known for months……
It affects boxes from PvP, as the developers have stated.
How many eles were there? Last tourney I watched, there was not a single one.
I think around half the teams in the Ro32 had an ele, and a team with a d/d ele won the tournament. 2 of the teams in the semifinals ran eles as well
The devs are obviously not interested in the ranger profession considering how they’ve left rangers as complete cripples in WvW, all citing that “Ranger is a skirmishing profession” meaning I guess that we shouldn’t be able to fight in large group settings effectively (even though thief can). Ranger and ranger pets need more ways of impacting a group fight in a meaningful way.
Ranger is weaker after the patch. Eles coming back just bring more automatic condition cleansing and spirits were nerfed again. Rangers also can’t make very good use of strength runes.
Power Ranger still brings no meaningful support to a team, and is completely overshadowed by a number of other professions.
With runes of strength and cleansebot eles back in the meta, condi isn’t looking so strong .
Not until thieves stop abusing LoS with ports, thank you very much.
Oh, and Ranger pets do already have a leash range.
I agree, 30% might duration and 5% bonus damage is where strength should be at.
Also to the guy above, S/D thief can stack 25 stacks of might with these runes pretty easily. Almost every class can use them to upkeep 10+ stacks of might. 350 power and condi damage is a big deal from just runes.
Engineers have always been like playing piano, just to be effective and stay alive. Who cares if they have a strong talent that works well with rune overhaul. It’s not like they haven’t a had to work their kitten off to “stay in the fight” for 2 years prior.
It might look easy or overpowered to you, but like all things engineer. There are multiple layers of difficulty you just don’t see when you’re on the opposing end,
I don’t think you play piano if you think cycling through bomb/nade kite to spam condis on point and then dropping a crate comes close to what it takes to play piano lol
I thought the casting from Blu and Sireph yesterday was some of the best that I’ve seen from them.
The only thing I never really wanna see is map view, since a player’s perspective is almost always more interesting.
When I have 2 Emperors and 2 Heroes of Lions Arch on my team, I know that we are going to be a powerhouse

Actually the easiest way to climb high on the leaderboards is to only play a game every few days ^^
This was a great tournament. Things I learned:
—#llamaprophecies and a lot of luck gets you a new finisher
—Precursors are not just for PvE players anymore
—If you lose, just do a Posi (joking aside, I hope that guy is banned from all future ANET sponsored tournaments. What a disgrace.)
—Mesmers are way more valuable to top teams than to average teams
—Eles are backGreat tournament and I’m looking forward to NA.
What did posi do?
Well, the shoutcasters made it sound like he threw a tantrum and refused to play in the match which would have decided 3rd place because Car Crash got beaten so bad in the semi finals.
The individual skill of the top team players is most of the time higher then the average players skilllvl.
Best example is soloq where you dont have your rotations.
You wanna tell us only zerker stuff is skilled stuff, so u will fap on one-hiting thiefs in WvW i guess.
Pls make a video which will show us u can beat the cheesy professions in 1vs1 mirror vs the top players, cause u said there is not much individual skill.I almost never play wvw and usually only do solo or team que and never hotjoin. I’m not saying zerker only is more skilled than other builds but it is higher risk higher reward. Why are you so offended at what I (and the majority of players) view as cheese and easy to play? What’s even funnier is a lot of the “top” players play these easy mode specs because their preferred spec got nerfed into nothing or other classes got buffed so hard that they couldn’t keep up anymore. Shatter mesmers are a great example here take Sensotix, Sup Cutie, etc. They all went from mesmer to thief. Even helseth was for awhile but he played mes in ToL and wouldn’t you know it the team with the mesmers usually did worse in ToL.
Further more alot of top players that switched their classes because of the meta had named their characters as such like a hambow warrior named “was ele hate meta.”
It’s simple if you look at ToL their were still more hambows than any other spec, followed by spirit ranger, and bunker guardian. The only reason people aren’t screaming bloody murder about bunker guards is they still go down eventually and require harsh management of cds and heals.
Err, I dunno what tournament you were watching, but I saw plenty of teams with no warrior. I saw two teams with mesmers in the final. I saw a team without a ranger win the tournament. Also, 55 HP monks was not running a spirit ranger either.
At the skill cap I would say the hardest builds to play effectively (IMO):
1. Interrupt Mesmer (6/2/6/0/0) (no crutch from DE or iPersona)
2. S/D Ele
3. Shatter Mesmer
4. Power Ranger
5. Power Necro (Non-MM, MM is trash and needs removed)
6. Static Discharge Engineer
7. D/P ThiefI say this because these classes are very high risk high reward specs. They are not (totally) dependent on AI with the exception of the shatter mesmer but even then the damage is the shatters and not the illusions…. and they all wear a zerker amulet.
Cheese builds which require little to no skill and can just be picked up and ran with are
1. Warrior… (anything but killshot 100bros builds which are just hilarious).
2. Spirit ranger
3. MM Necro
4. PU/Phantasm Mesmer
5. Decap/Turret engi…
Lol, here’s betting you play interrupt mesmer
The best and easiest fix for warrior heal signet is to make it scale with adrenaline, just like the mesmer heal scales with clones.
Even if it healed for 500 per second at max adrenaline, warriors would have to choose: do I want to burst to remove conditions, or do I want the extra healing? Should I try and sustain with my normal skills right now, or do I wanna put combustive shot on point?
It would add a lot of thought, as well as counterplay to warrior. And because of that, the active and passive could be reworked to potentially provide more healing, or maybe other effects.
Maybe your name causes the server to crash
Outside of balancing issues, bad players, etc, we have the DC. Someone just dced in a high profile match and guess what? The game resumes. Just look at league of legends and their thriving esports scene; everything is played on lan, effectively eliminating DC, and online tournaments have a pause function.
Hmm, last time I checked Guild Wars 2 was an MMORPG, not a RTS or MOBA. Maybe that’s why it doesn’t have a pause feature currently, since MMORPGs are not designed as specifically competitive games.
Also, I thought today’s tournament had a great turn out and that the competition was surprisingly tough. The last match was unfortunate, but overall, the majority of the tournament so far has gone off without a hitch.
As for ‘bad balance and bad players’, every class was represented well today, and if you think the players are bad, get yourself a team and try and win the next tournament… because no one cares that you were ranked 11 in solo queue.
I hate thieves more than any other class in the game. It kittenes me off to see someone hit me for 7k+ twice or more in a row then stealth and repeat over and over again until I’m dead or run away and heartseeker across the map until out of combat never to be seen again the moment I get decent damage on them. I hate thieves with a passion that burns 10000 times hotter than the sun(no offense Ozii. I’m Sheva Alamarr BTW), HOWEVER I do not go and create threads that blatantly suggest to Nerf or take away something from another class. That’s such a kitten move. If someone said take away thieves’ ability to stealth you had best prepare yourself for a crap storm of negative comments coming your way. You know what I did? I switched to DPS meditation build and wrecked thieves who thought it was a brilliant idea to stab me in the back while having a 1v1 or sometimes 1v2 and beat them in their own game.
Perhaps if you spent more time theory crafting and improving yourself as a player than you do creating threads to Nerf another class maybe you wouldn’t feel this way.
Maybe if you learned how to read, you would take note that the OP wasn’t talking about 1v1 capabilities.
The fact is that in terms of group support (what you apparently failed to grasp before going on your tangent about 1v1ing thieves), was that Guardian far exceeds all other classes in every area of the game.
How many people came in to watch? I’m on Hawaii time so it was a little early for me, hope to tune in tomorrow!
I believe the highest number I saw was just a little over 3,500
That’s 51 unique borderlands.
I understand that community designers can attempt to alleviate the workload, but in fact with the amount of testing and fixing the designers’ errors that will be required, it’s unlikely to make any significant difference. The other problem is that players are only going to see a handful of these borderlands because any one server will only be pitted against a small number of servers, and NA/EU servers never meet. So, it’d be easier to just work on a few new maps and put them in a random pool.
[Edit: For the record, fighting in the Gate of Madness, Kaineng or Abaddon’s Mouth would still be amazing. Better if you didn’t have to do it every week.]
Well, I think that it could be worked out so that some borderlands would be shared between EU/NA: Far Shiverpeaks/Northern Shiverpeaks, for example.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I realize it probably isn’t realistic, but I just still really like this idea and I feel like it would add a lot of freshness/replayability
but a guildy of mine has 33% rank with a 14/9 win loss.
Can somebody explain why the player with more wins has a lower rank on the leaderboard?
If your guildmate hasn’t played a while, he will have had a lot of degeneration to his leaderboard rank.
One of the things that irks me the most about WvW is cookie cutter borderlands.
What if Arenanet got some collaboration going with community graphic artists and gave each borderland a unique skin according to the world’s theme? For example, Crystal Desert’s borderland would be a desert with desert castles, Northern Shiverpeaks would have a Norn theme to it. It would feel like each different borderland you stepped into was a unique place with its own unique community of guilds.
The maps could stay exactly the same in terms of functional design, but I’d love to experience the different skins in each borderland with new worlds each week.
I feel like this could keep WvW more fresh for a lot of people, but maybe I am wrong. It also might take up way too much design time, but it is just something I’d absolutely love to see added to the game.
I also feel like having unique looking borderlands would contribute to server pride/community.
Now now…remove PU and you remove mesmers from pvp all together. Since that is the only viable thing to play now with the phantas “fix”
PU has never been viable in conquest.
will this take another 8 month to fix?
Probably longer, seeing as it isn’t broken, there’s just a high quantity of fools that think it is.
Yknow what I did when pets started dealing twice as much damage as normal? I reported it. I didn’t come on the forums claiming it had always been like that. Grow up.
And neither did I. I hopped ingame and tested out the iWarlock thoroughly. It has precisely the same damage coefficient and scaling as pre-patch. People are just having fits because of the strength runes and battle sigil combo boosting damage.
Good testing bro.
HAHAHAHHAHA!
On a side note:
Fixed a bug that caused NPCs and player-summoned creatures to hit for excessive damage in sPvP.
Yea, it’s amazing the rabid class fanboyism this game inspires :/
I think titles for winning 500, 1000 tournaments on a particular class is a really good idea. Could continue where the “Champion Paragon, Phantom, etc” set left off with Elite, and then Legendary
Reward tracks with unique-to-PvP weaponsets or finishers is also a very nice idea.
For example, if a reward track awarded one new skin at the end, it would give people reason to run the reward track multiple times to collect all the skins for their class.
will this take another 8 month to fix?
Probably longer, seeing as it isn’t broken, there’s just a high quantity of fools that think it is.

I fear this would push people more into bunker specs. For instance, I will often run a dps spec, knowing that if I go down in a good position I can get team support w/o major loss. If I knew random thief-ganks would net my opponent 5 points, there is NO WAY I would play staff zerker ele ever and feed the opponent points.
I think a better thing to consider would be changing the speed of resses such that an immediate res doesn’t beat out a stomp. However, requiring cleave + stomp is also good team-play.
Many teams now seem to be running with more than enough cleave that ressing is often too hazardous to even try. We have seen this happen before.
I’d have to disagree that it would promote bunker specs. In fact, bunker teams are usually the ones I see benefitting the most from suiciding onto points they hold that are heavily contested. Adding points for downing these bunkers as they rush in to try and hold against 2 or 3 v 1 would discourage this type of play which is largely skill-less and gives an unfair advantage to bunker comps in the conquest game mode.
Xeph, I don’t think anyone really has a problem with PvE players coming to play PvP. In fact, I think we can all agree that it’s a good thing.
The problem occurs when you have a rank 1 person who just bought the game or someone who just decided to click “solo queue” while doing the queensdale champion train wind up in a game with top 100-500 players because Arenanet chooses to start their MMR at an absurdly high level.
The other day in a solo queue game I found myself 3v1ing on a neuted mid point for over a minute and a half. We were two capped on the other nodes. My team apparently lost a 2v4.
The reason why this is happening in my opinion is this: In single player games like chess, you can start out someone’s MMR very high because there is no way that a person with an MMR of 1000 will ever beat someone with a skill level of 2000.
In Guild Wars 2, you have 4 other people on your team, which means with a huge amount of carry, we can see people with an MMR of 1000 winning in games of people say, with MMRs of 1800, because the 1000 newbie has people rated 2000 on his team, or there is just a particularly hard counter comp.
