My queue pops, and then the game bombs with this message, wont let me back into the game, so its a 4v5.
FIX YOUR GAME- in addition to that, most people’s ping has rapidly risen lately.
so every solo player should just roll an engi?
they can work great together too besides being amazing at 1 vs 1.
this game seems incredibly unbalanced at the time and what exactly counters aoe spamming engi?
Engineer is the hardest counter to the thief class in the game IMO. I actually think that at mid-tier its a harder counter than thief vs. mesmer.
If you are sick of fighting condition, or cele rifle engineers and want to beat them, I suggest running condi necro or survival condi ranger.
Against turret engineers, if they are sitting on their home point, with no one around, leave them there. Use it to your advantage to secure a really strong grasp on your home and mid point nodes while you outnumber your enemy.
Another good counter to engineers in general is staff elementalist. This can help fight back against condi spam in team fights with lots of AoE clear for your team, and you can also destroy turrets with your fire AoEs like Meteor shower.
A build like Support Bunker Guardian uses Clerics rather than Settler’s for the higher healing power as opposed to the higher toughness.
Other than that, I can’t really think of a reason. Other than certain AI builds which just prefer power as a stat than condition damage.
Solo queue has always been full of engineers. That’s because they are pretty much the ultimate carry for solo queue. Just be glad you aren’t playing against them before they had Automated Response nerfed.
Engineer is extremely effective in solo queue due to a number of factors:
1. Undodgeable condi spam (Incendiary Powder, doom/geo)
2. Crate being overpowered in 1v1s and also a good contribution to any size skirmish
3. Perma swiftness and easy escapes if you are out of position, just shield block/invis your way across the map. Easy access to perma swiftness is huge in solo queue, given how random the rotations can be.
4. Ability to affect fights from 1500 range.
5. Great downed body cleave: nades/poison/vuln stacking
6. Stealth/invuln stomps
You could probably add more to this but yeah, thats most of it in a nutshell.
Engineer gets less strong in team queue, where its easier to coordinate and bring one down due to the lack of condi clear.
I think a good, practical start would be to make sigil of fire only hit stuff around your actual target (instead of the target itself), and increase the healing from blood, making it no longer do damage. With that change fire, air, and blood each have a unique purpose.
If those changes went through, then maybe they could change Air sigil to be similar to Doom, where it procs on first hit after weapon damage (thinking like 2.5-3k damage, once per swap). Although, I could see this being a problem with classes frontloading damage from stealth…aka mesmer/thief.
Dodge the Incendiary powder
YES WE’RE ESPORTS NOW ESPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been thinking about joining or creating a team for a while now. I have a problem:
I honestly don’t know how good I am at this game. I’m better than average. I can win many1v1s, I don’t do silly rotations, I don’t blow major cooldowns in silly situations (like 2v1 lich forming, etc). I have a decent knowledge of each classes skills, high damage, defensive, and so on.
My problem is this: Although I think I’m decent at this game, I feel there is no easy way of judging who would be a good match for me skillwise. This is due in large part to the leaderboard system. My peak solo queue ranking was 6th, peak team queue was like 50. Have I been close to the 6th, or 50th best player in North America? Hell no.
In other games, for example, I have a rating I can trust (for the most part). If I’m playing online chess, I know that someone within a 100 rating point difference of me will be close to my skill level and most of the time we’ll have a good game. If I was going to form a “chess team” I’d just get some people close to my rating and we’d try and improve together. This same principle goes for other games with decently trustworthy MMRs.
Imagine how much easier it would be to find a group to tPvP with in HotM if you could just say “LF4M 1800-2000 MMR”. No weird percentile leaderboard system to go look people up, and wonder if they are a good player who hasn’t played a single game in ages, or a person with a jacked ranking due to playing 1 game a week, etc.
If Arenanet wants to see competitive teams forming, and sticking together, I really think that the first thing they should do is make it so people can find others of similar skill easily. And that comes through a trustworthy leaderboard/MMR system.
1. Empathic Bond: This trait is really poorly designed and implemented. It’s annoying to me as a ranger that I can’t clear when I want to, and it’s annoying to people I fight that their condis are removed randomly and automatically! It’s also annoying to my poor pet which takes all my condis up its rear.
Solution: Change this trait to remove conditions upon pet swap, possibly move it to the beastmastery trait line.
2. Reaper’s Protection: It’s just flat out annoying to be feared for 3 seconds because you landed a good CC on a necromancer.
Solution: ? Possibly gain life force when CCed, would have to be tested
3. Incendiary Powder: I’m sorry, this trait needs to go. Engineer’s most damaging condition on a completely undodgeable, random proc is not skillful.
Solution: Remove incendiary powder as a trait, give Engineers compensation with things like more condi clear, better autoattacks, lowered cooldowns on elixirs, etc. This would help solve engineers hardcountering thieves but being hardcountered by necros.
4. Renewing Stamina: Arenanet needs to decide whether eles should have: permanent vigor, high protection up time, good condi removal, or high passive healing. Because at the moment they have all 4. They have already nerfed other classes access to vigor, and now would be the perfect time to nerf eles vigor, as the class is currently a bit overtuned.
Solution: Maybe give vigor on using an arcane skill (?), or change this trait to something else entirely.
ty but with a mind like mine i prefer to pursure carrier in advance neural science
You’re using cleric’s amulet, please dont try and say all your damage doesn’t come from your minions, since it does.
Also, this build is dreadful, and please move it to the necromancer section. Or maybe the WvW section

PS. This idea NOT STOLEN from WoW dungeon queue.
Here is how to fix the issue of game starting 4v5, with one player afk, or log out:
This highly genius and intense thought diagram show u how to fix this mindbend tough problem:
This conceptually advance diagram appear 30 seconds before the game starts. When a player doesnt click check to ready, he or she is removed from queue.
If you do not understand this complicate diagram, I offer private tutor courses on understanding and grasp the idea
Ah, I remember the days when I was a new player and thought that mesmer was completely impossible to kill and overpowered. Good times…
Yes, now that there aren’t 8 warriors per match is clear proof that Warrior is now horribly underpowered and needs to have healing signet buffed by 3x
Elementalist – S
Engineer – A+
Necromancer – A
Thief – A
Mesmer (with thief) – A
Warrior – B
Guardian – B
Ranger – C
Mesmer (without thief) – C
Yep, jumping over these attacks causes them to do no damage. The same as dodging them would do.
Arenanet really cares about mesmer bugs LOL
- Leave Skyhammer in the rotation as an utterly broken map
-Refuse to add the obvious solution for 4v5s (functional readyup button)
-Add standard models to team queue and custom arenas only (???what)
-Leave leaderboards in a broken state that punishes players for playing multiple games per day.
Basically, arenanet doesn’t give a single kitten about your solo queue experience. All of these things could be fixed in one day. ONE day.
All it needs is a slightly increased cast time and a tell like pin down got.
Ranger pet is useful for some things… like epidemic, or stealthing off of it XD
I have yet to see a top team start doing really well with a power ranger. So please, just because you don’t know how to dodge rapid fire in your hotjoins doesn’t make you qualified to come on here and talk about how OP ranger is.
If we start seeing teams running 2 (or more) power rangers, like cough cough warrior, ele cough, cough then you can come on the forums are start whining.
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
Yes the guaranteed 3 condis removed every 8 seconds giant aoe that envelops more than the entire point that applies burning and does the same damage as an Eviscerate throughout the entire duration and is a catalyst for insane might stacks! It’s fine!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
I love you vee wee xD
Why is this topic even still open? It’s a ridiculous complaint and just plain rude.
Karl gets me the info I need. I don’t need a professional actor to do it. Keep up the good work Karl.
^
Totally agree with OP and 2nd poster!
1. Passive fear just on hitting or CCing a necro is terrible design.
2. Necros need more sustain only in fights with more than 4 total people and less than 10. They have very good sustain in 1v1 and VERY good survivability in zergs.

First of all, Ranger shortbow does pretty miserable damage. If you’ve ever fought an even halfway decent warrior as a SB ranger you will know that the weapon can’t even get close to killing them on its own.
However, it excels at focusing targets in a team fight with the cripple, and interrupt on a relatively short cooldown. Add piercing and you can pressure people very well in a teamfight with a reliable on demand heal interrupt and a combination of power and bleed damage.
Obviously, most of the hate for ranger shortbow stems from how the attacks are all similar, and the very fast auto attack. People say that “Ranger shortbow has no counterplay”. That simply isn’t true. The easiest way to fight ranger shortbow is to simply get right in the ranger’s face and outdamage them. Because almost any other class in the game is going to out-damage the shortbow from close range.
lolwut. 20g says I can kill a warrior with just SB. Warrior is not the unkillable monstrosity people make it out to be, and I find ranger has all things required to kill a warrior.
1. Plenty of access to poison, this counters healing signet, which 90% of warriors use.
2. Plenty of CC to kite for days. Even with dogged march it’s still possible to kite warriors.
3. Plenty of evades to dodge those hard hitting skills. Tons of weapon evades, natural vigor, LR, all makes for easy dodging of those 1 shot skills,Throw those three into a build and warriors won’t be a problem, and most builds have access to at least one of those. Having said that, you can still run into the warrior who is actually a good player and will wreck you, but a good player is a good player. If you get killed by somebody who knows the class and plays it well, don’t feel bad or feel the class you play is bad.
What is the point of making a bet whether you can kill a warrior with just a Shortbow? If the warrior knows how to play, and has a proper build, then no, you can’t. If you CAN, well, the warrior sucks. Plain and simple.
I did not say that warrior is an unkillable monstrosity. However, there is an obvious reason why you see teams running 2 warriors and winning tournaments. It’s because warrior is, like ele, overpowered at the moment.
I don’t feel ranger is bad, and no where in my post did I ask for shortbow buffs. I think shortbow has a role right now that it fits well.
It’s pretty funny that whenever someone mentions how warriors are strong you get ridiculous responses like “oh yeah? well ill beat a good warrior with just a shortbow! that’ll show you”. Lmao.

Axe auto attack is horrible dps and only average in multi target situations. It’ll be ok, but as a new player it would make levelling more of a challenge than some other weapons. Also, once you reach late endgame open world pve (Ruins of Orr + living story) you will want to probably get a weapon with good single target damage (longbow, or sword)
What do you mean ‘viable for open world PvE’? You could do open world pve in this game without a weapon as a ranger just having your pet kill stuff
Sorry, you must have the wrong website. GW2 has no professional gamers
Visible MMR with a slow, but permanent decay is how GW2 leaderboards should work.
Why Visible MMR?
1. It’s more transparent and shows skill better than a leaderboard number/percentile. Maybe there are just two players at the top who are way out in front of everyone else, or maybe everyone in the top 500 is very close in rating. Without visible MMR, you can’t tell.
2. It gives new players a concrete evaluation of performance and a way to improve. Rather than seeing themselves as a percentile, new players would be more likely to try and improve visible MMR incrementally by setting a new personal rating record(even if only by a few points).
3. If people can actually see what amount of rating they lose or gain while playing, instead of seeing their leaderboard number fly around like crazy after each win or lose, players will stay calmer. Losing 20 points off your rating doesn’t seem as bad as dropping from 55% to 49% on the leaderboards.
4. Visible MMR works for other games, like Chess and WoW. It’s a proven system that most people have no problem with.
Lol why are you guys arguing over the way a tournament with no ACTUAL rewards is run? zzz pointless drama, you are just gonna make Hman clinically obese
Are you the messiah of esports we have waited for?
Amadayiss Moatzert
well we will have to wait and see . . . but it i’m honestly tired of playing a game where constantly keeps nerfing the only profession i like.
I mean . . . it’s cool that ranger, engi received some buffs . . . . but why! just why the hardest profession to kill for a thief receive a significant buff against us! WHY?
Ha, like engies use utility goggles.
the rating system is a bell curve, as you get a higher rating you find less people with that rating and therefore win less points and lose way more, so unless they maintained a 75% winrate everyone above you has gone down due to less people to play against so the maximum achievable rating has also decreased. Since you were nearish to the top of the rankings (~15 win streak from first) and due to the significant reduction in the player base, your rating which was inflated due to a larger population is now much higher relative to everyone else that has to play in a more restricted rating range.
Please show me some statistics that show that the community is now exponentially smaller than it was two months ago, I’d love to see them.
Better yet:
“After you dodge gain 2 seconds of Striders Defense (non-stacking), Striders Defense destroys incoming projectiles. Dodging also returns some of the endurance used.”
Hey now, that sounds fun and interesting. Like a super version of the thief’s Feline Grace, just takes more trait points.
ArenaNet: “We’re still trying to figure out how to put needed RNG in our combat.”
Speaking as a Ranger main, Ranger doesn’t need more dodges, nor does it need benefits from dodging. Evading has its own obvious benefits.
Both your suggestion and the suggestion of the guy above are clearly overpowered. Dodging needs to be toned down in this game.
Just because thief has broken mechanics which keep it as the top berserker spec doesn’t mean we should add those type of mechanics to other classes.
Okay then, keep Strider’s Defense to a 20% chance to destroy projectiles. It’ll join the lonely trait pile with Dhuumfire.
Thief has broken mechanics? I main an Elementalist, I find them balanced. The combat doesn’t need less dodging, it needs no invincibility skills (AKA Endure Pain) and a punishing mechanic if you dodge too much (AKA under 50% endurance when health reaches 0, you die, do not go into downed state) to give that zerker classes more risk for their reward.
Besides, it doesn’t matter in the end, rangers are being buffed wrong.
I’d prefer to see it be a useless trait than one that added more dodge centric gameplay to the mix.
Brief invincibility skills are ok as long as they are factored into the design of the classes overall sustain. Elementalist and Mesmer also have brief invulnerability skills.
If you watch a really good thief play S/D, its pretty clear that that set is not balanced. D/P is balanced because there is proper risk and reward in the gameplay.
Downstate is alright (terrible for wvw and pve), but I’d prefer to see a 1 res, 1 rally system. Where only one person gets up if one person is ressed. I’d also prefer to see conditions stay on a target once downed and one revived.
It blows my mind how many times you kids are told how the leaderboards work and you still complain about it, no one is playing soloq, there are 100s of people above you in terms of rating but none of them are active, the system would work fine with an active playerbase but there are <50 good active players in the entire game so even if they remade leaderboards it would not matter because it would just be a bunch of noobs complaining about the new leaderboards.
Listen up, kid.
My rating was around 300 before I left 2 months ago. If I had played an extra game and won before I had left, it probably would have been about 260. But, if I wait a couple of months, that extra game will make me jump to #10 on the leaderboards.
No logical rating system would make me gain a massive amount of rating just by winning 1 game after being inactive for a long period of time.
This also allows people to abuse the boards because by not playing, you gain substantially more rating when you finally win a game than by playing frequently. And I can guarantee you that no other game with semi-respectable leaderboards (LoL, DotA, WoW, etc) has ratings that work like this.

I come back after 2 months, I’m ranked 53%, play one game, jump to #10 on the leaderboards.
Before I left I wasn’t close to 10, I was probably 200-300.
If Arenanet wants people to take this game seriously and have a competitive community, maybe they should start by fixing the abysmal rating system.
In addition to just being ridiculous, rating jumps like this don’t encourage people to keep playing. Look at the two guys at the top of the NA solo boards right now with less than 20 games played. I personally don’t feel like playing more now that I’m at the top of the leaderboards being really rusty and knowing I’ll get destroyed by the people of similar rating.
The main problem with Ranger GS is the abysmal damage scaling on the auto attack. Other than that, it’s a very solid weapon.
Dur hur Anet donut confuz us rangar wit complekated pet controll
I’ve posted before about how Skyhammer is completely unsuitable for ranked play. Why Arenanet openly ignores this fact is beyond me.
I’ve had a conversation with an ex-Arenanet developer who I shall not name in which he said *"We didn’t expect people to tryhard Solo Queue". *
I had no clue how to respond to this. This is PvP, of course people are going to tryhard it and take it seriously.
Skyhammer is fine for casual play, in fact I enjoy the map in hotjoin. If someone is running an über-troll build like Focus mesmer or Decap Engineer, I just leave and find a different game. The map mechanics are fun when you aren’t getting demolished in ranked play simply because someone is running a build specifically designed to abuse the map.
The simplest solution to Skyhammer would be to remove it from Solo Queue. However, I think a Map Vote option, where players have a choice to vote between two maps when their queue pops would satisfy the majority of the community.
I recognize there are some people who like Skyhammer in SQ, so these people would still have a chance to play their map if there were enough votes.
In addition to alleviating the Skyhammer problem, Map Vote would end up with more people playing the maps they enjoy more of the time, which couldn’t be bad for the game.
One thing I forgot to mention is that I’d really like to see is unique weapon and armor skins from completing a zone, from the heart karma vendors. I feel like this would make the exploration experience feel a lot more rewarding.
@Drago, some helpful advice: looking at your other posts, it appears you run a really glassy axe/axe mace/sword full melee warrior, which is actually very bad against thieves and mesmers.
Try running a melee set with a longbow, and make sure you have burst mastery and cleansing Ire traits. You will do much better in general with a setup like this.
Edit: I’m no warrior expert, but maybe something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQNAneTjMd0FaVImhwJagfgCZQ0CGDgIQdak7lBA-TpBFwACOCAOeAAl2fYxhAoaZAAnAAA

Just wondering what type of content would make people pumped again to play this game! Pick any options that you think would be really fun.
Also feel free to post if you think I missed any potential content additions
(edited by infantrydiv.1620)
For WvW, go with Critical Strikes. Most people are so bad there you don’t need the extra utility, and the extra damage will make you hit much harder.
From what I’ve seen of Sizer playing 20066, he’s really maximizing his evades by evading practically everything. I’ve seen him down an engi who crated him without getting hit till the engi was at 20% health, and I’ve seen him dodging individual ticks of Combustive shot as well. 20066 is really dangerous if you know how to play it, but if you aren’t able to predict and evade lots of attacks, it would be detrimental to run compared to 26060.
If you like a hyperactive, spammy style, Thief is fun. Good for PvE, PvP, and WvW it has no problem tagging stuff if you are just casually zerging. Don’t know much about it from a GvG aspect
