Living Story - achievements and backpiece

in Living World

Posted by: justkoh.4073

justkoh.4073

I have 2 issues with the current Living Story which I hope An-net will consider fixing.

1. The Living Story achievements – the achievements are unlocked for obtaining once the Living Story episode has been completed the first time. However, its silly that it must be that same character. I would think that after the first character gets through (and hence get the episode complete achievement), the rest should be eligible to start doing achievements as they clear the Living Story but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

2. Most ingredients for the vine backpiece (from the Living Story) does not seem to be stack-able. It is taking up a lot of space as I have multiple characters. Could the unmodified ones be made stack-able please?

Toxic players when Tequatl is up

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Well who’s the selfish party here?
Is it the person who doesn’t simply take the 30 seconds to log out then back in thereby being put onto a new map, who also has the potential to cause up to 150 other players the loss of a significant event and rewards?
Or is it the players who are trying their best within the games limits to succeed in something that takes significant effort to organise?

People often don’t know the inner workings of a game engine, which leads to irate players trying to succeed against false game mechanics (ie: map limits) instead of succeeding against a genuine challenge in a dynamic event.

So you can ask (politely) a player to do something, but you can’t force them to. I think this is really why guilds ala TTS change maps so often for organised events. Not because you aren’t welcome, but because you aren’t cooperating for success.

I have been in the OP situation, particularly in guild events where I ask ‘Do you need help with X’.. or they ask ‘Please leave as you are scaling up the event’, to which I gladly do. The good community of Guild Wars often sends genuine thanks to anyone who contributes positively in any form.

My stance on this thing is, ask politely and hope they comply. They have a right to be there as well.

If they don’t comply, I’d say too bad but nothing gives you the right to be rude and abusive especially just for loot.

To those not participating in the events, the reasons have been stated by earlier posts and you can make your own decision if its a valid reason, possibly with the tone of the request taken into consideration. If anyone gets abusive, I suggest to screenshot and report.

Empyreal Fragments I throw away immediately or once a stack is completed.

Pile of Bloodstone Dust I keep only because I still have stacks of Pristine Toxic Spore samples and can make the “Toxic” series nourishment.

Dragonite Ore I used to keep but after Dry Top, I think I may start throwing them away soon.

That said, I try to maintain about 60 each of Empyreal Stars, Bloodstone Bricks and Dragonite Ingots at any time.

[Suggestion] Account wide harvesting tools

The one problem with this is money. Buying one permanent tool for each character gives more money to Anet. Having all characters only needing one of each between them is a considerable loss of profit. I too would love to have every toon share permanent gathering tools but it’s just not a logical move for the company to make.

Basically this. While I’d love to be able to get a refund for my multiple tools, ANet got $150 (for 5 sets of the three tools) out of me as opposed to just $30, so why would they change what’s working?

But Zaxares, such tools used to be soul bound and when they became account bound, all players who had multiples could get refunds (albeit gem refund). There were threads covering the refund policy but as I recall, players could get them through Customer Service.

(Found it! https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Infinite-Gathering-Tools-Some-Info-for-you)

It may sound counter-intuitive but I believe there may be many players like me who have resisted buying any infinite tools because of them not being account wide. I have no trouble resisting the urge to buy but I would if they made the changes requested.

I’m not making any demand here; Just a friendly suggestion on how they could get my money. Next move is theirs.

And since we are on the accountwide-topic: same for Salvage-o-Matic and Roylal Terrace Pass pls!!!

Actually not only those. How about the Permanent Bank Access Contract etc? The implementation really doesn’t make sense as usage is based on which character currently holds the ‘contract’ item.

Anyway, back to the topic.

My promise to you A-net: make the harvesting tools account wide (including for new characters) and I will buy a full set (one of each type). If you don’t increase the price further, I will buy it at full price (i.e. won’t wait for discounts).

There are some cold places in Tyria, You gotta keep your private parts warm.

So the scene is this great cavern where my necromancer and 4 party members go into to face Mordremoth for the first time.

The great dragon rises out of the seemingly bottomless chasm and roars at us. It is a sight that literally ‘scares people kitten-less’. The other party members immediately drop their weapons and cover their bums. All except my necromancer whose gaze at their adversary is unflinching. Camera then pans to her adult diapers and the words flash across the screen…

“Face the elder dragons with greater confidence with Kodan brand adult diapers”.

The gemstore (infinite) harvesting tools used to be per character, and now they’re account bound and can be shared.

How about another QOL improvement? Make it such that if I buy any such tool, it appears on all my characters within the account? i.e. so that we don’t have to transfer it between characters.

Further, perhaps Anet can make it such that it operates like the wardrobe system for those who bought different versions of, say, the logging tool and would like to see different animations for each.

It may just be the effects of the piece of armer try changing to some other armer and see if it goes away. Funny never seen dark grey adult diapers before.

Removed gloves, boots and the top. Nope.

So far all enemies she fights have been ‘blinded’ or ‘petrified’ once she goes into combat pose. One was seen trying to claw his eyes out at the sight of her battle diaper. Others ran away blinded screaming “my eyes, my eyes”!

Anyway, just hope A-net sees this and fixes.

Bind after purchase "disastrous"

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: justkoh.4073

justkoh.4073

Thank you for the replies.

As thread-starter, just thought I’d add my own thoughts for ‘closure’ in case anyone refers to this some day.

It seems the gist is that the main money sink is the 15% TP tax and in order to remove currency from the economy, a greater number of transactions is preferred. This is where A-net perceives flippers as important to the economy.

I have asked before for a TP interface where I can see Buy and Sell price breakdowns in one screen (instead of the current clunky interface) so that folks will not fall for bait prices and sell at ‘sub-optimal’ prices; but this is probably also a reason why such a request will unlikely be entertained. If an item is sold too cheaply, it can be flipped more times and therefore more gold can be removed. If that is deliberate, its terrible on A-net’s part to help maintain such practices.

But I digress. Back to topic.

So it has been explained why it would prove disastrous for GW2’s economy (this post included). However, IMO, explained is not the same as accepted. Basically what I mean is it is sad that A-net needed to ‘collude’ with flippers to maintain the economy. I wonder if no other way could have been chosen to do so at the start? But at this point I doubt anything can be done since it will invariably cause too great an upheaval and involve too much work.

So for folks who justifiably feel that reward should equal effort, I think this thread will offer some explanation as to why binding after purchasing is considered disastrous. Perhaps it works but the method chosen cannot help but leave a bitter taste in many mouths.

Excess coins for Dry Top pls

in Living World

Posted by: justkoh.4073

justkoh.4073

Why is it luck to of found the coins without a guide.. luck has nothing to do with it, its up to the individual to put the effort in, in order to find them.. add excess coins and the achievement becomes nothing more than a 5min easy win.
Forgive me if I am wrong but I could of sworn there was no time limit on finding all 30 coins so take a break and do something else if it’s frustrating you.. failing that players can choose to take a guided tour. You think that by adding in extra coins to dumb down the achievement will stop players going to places like Dulfy for a guide.. cos I will bet my kids dinner money it will make no difference at all.

I get it, you can’t find the last coin and so you come here to try and put out a smokescreen to hise your whine and frustration.

ANET… no need to water the exploration side of your achievements down in my opinion it works just fine as it is…signed "Lucky Achiever!

It could be luck, it could be you searched hard. Why couldn’t it be some of both?

Adding leeway coins is a 5min win? Then what is using guides straightaway? When players use that, the gratitude is towards the guide maker, not the game for making a good and satisfying challenge. Another thing I want A-net to consider.

Yes, I am aware there is no time limit for finding the coins. You do not know how much effort I’ve taken to search so don’t make assumptions and baseless accusations. I have searched for more than 14hrs over a week for that 1 coin. I really hope its not because its bugged as someone above said.

I am not whining. I know what information is available online. If I want that last coin that badly, I will just refer to a guide and complete the achievement. As I said, I will have it. This isn’t the same as asking A-net to dumb down Liadri so I can complete the Gauntlet.

I believe A-net knows who its players are. If they believe that GW2 players are hardcore, by all means continue with 30/30. I’ll just use the 5min win in future; not going to waste time doing this. No one knows any different anyway. But if they believe otherwise, then I think the game is better served with a little slack.

BTW, I am not asking A-net to place those extra coins in plain sight. But searching for one coin is not fun. And when you find it, you realize it isn’t that great an achievement either.

ANET – please consider my reasoning in this thread. The system as it is only adds to user frustration. Being too insistent on 30/30 only drives people to use guides and that could become habit forming. Finding 30/34 (or even 30/32) has precedent and was a better system IMO (e.g. Sky crystals in the Zephyr Sanctum).

Dungeons ... before I turn 80, or after?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: justkoh.4073

justkoh.4073

I know I will be flamed for this statement… but…

I hate running dungeons story mode or explorable without all level 80s.

Level 80s are required to do story mode so they can have access to open explorable mode. They also need all story modes/explorable modes for Dungeon Master title.

Level 80s have better armor/ better skills etc.

Also, don’t forget the trait points. Trait points not only include more powerful effects at Grandmaster level but each point put into a trait line also increases certain stats.

In addition, while most players would spring for exotic gear at level 80, they would try to scrape by at lower levels. This means that the level 70 on the team could be using level 60 gear or lower depending how thick their skin is. To be clear, that is under-leveled and likely not exotic gear.

I don’t think I’d consider myself “Hardcore.” I still haven’t finished the achievement myself, but I’m enjoying the hunt. I just think it’s important the everyone remembers what achievements really are. They’re not core content, they’re not a gate for anything, and they’re not geared toward casual players, aside from the occasional “Congrats, you opened your inventory!” achievement. Achievements are meant to add replayability and difficulty for the more dedicated players who are willing to commit more time to honing their skills and solving puzzles. If someone has a desire to complete all the achievements, then fantastic! They have a bit of a completionist streak, like me, and this game caters to that side of players very well. However, in order to satisfy that completionist streak, they’re going to need to go above and beyond the call of duty, so to speak. That’s the way it is and should be. If someone doesn’t want to take the time to hunt down that last coin, they need to be satisfied with their 25 coin achievement and forget about that extra 3 AP.

In a world without online guides, I could agree with you. However, the reality is that such guides do exist. I will get that AP but I would prefer to do so by myself (up to the limit of my patience).

As it stands, the folks who decided to use the guides without even trying are already ahead on the achievement.

As I said in the OP, for the majority, the current system only promotes frustration or ultimately referring to sites like Dulfy. If a couple of leeway coins could be included, it would be much more satisfying for the casual user to be able to locate all of them themselves.

It would figure that the hardcore folks (or the very lucky) could prefer the current system. But I believe A-net can better understand my issue from their own perspective.

By insisting on 30 out of 30 (in this case), they’re just pushing a lot of folks to check guides and in doing so, deny them of the sense of self-accomplishment.

Please remember that guides do exist and there isn’t any way to distinguish between those who found it themselves or those who referred to guides. GW2 has been catering to casual players and I think not insisting on 30/30 would go a long way to helping folks enjoy the game and in so doing, contribute to the longevity of GW2.

Without using any guides, I found all the coins in Uplands but am missing one for Prospect Valley. I’ve searched many times over and over and now thinking I’ve spent too much time for this achievement.

Needing to find 30 out of exactly 30 means that if you just miss one anytime on your search, you’d need to search all over again. Its not fun.

I hope that if A-net comes up with coin searching achievements again in future (or similar achievements in later living story segments), it will be for 30 out of 34 coins i.e. please don’t make us find exactly 30 out of available 30 coins.

In that sense what they did for the (regular) crystals in the Zephyr Sanctum was good, IMO.

When they insist we find exactly 30 out of 30 to get the achievement, the only thing they’re doing is promoting sites like Dulfy because:

  • Player who tried to find them himself gets frustrated and gives up,
  • Player who tried to find them himself ends up referring to Dulfy guide,
  • Player doesn’t even wanna try and immediately refers to Dulfy guide.

That robs the majority of us of the sense of accomplishment that we did it ourselves and make the players who went straight to the Dulfy guide seem like the smarter ones.

"Griefing" steam champ at the reactor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

justkoh.4073

I’m trying to see this particular case from another perspective.

Someone took the trouble to infuse a key and was selfish about ‘sharing’ it. However selfish, isn’t it his right to use his item as he sees fit? From this perspective, it seems that people are just upset because they feel entitled to his efforts.

How do you determine intention short of direct admission? In theory, I may be able to agree with what Fenrir says about deliberate disruption. But in practice? It’s just not enforceable at all!

Be careful. If not, we’ll start heading in the direction where anyone who refuses to fall in line with how and when you choose to play, can be considered to be griefing and that is rubbish.

Anyway, IMO this isn’t griefing. Somebody wanted everything and is upset he couldn’t get it.

Request for New Stat Combo

I’ve seen a request thread from Anet staff here on the forums asking what other stat combos we’d like to see.

Back then, the one I could think of was (+Power, +Precision and +Vitality) and someone had suggested it early so I didn’t monitor further.

Playing further now, I have some other new requests for stat combos.

Firstly, I am thinking that the ‘Giver’ set should be properly separated i.e. there should be one set with

  • (+Condition Duration, +Precision and +Vitality) and another with
  • (+Toughness, +Healing Power, and +Boon Duration).

Secondly, I’m hoping to see at least one of the following:

  • (+Condition Duration, +Condition Damage, +Vitality),
  • (+Condition Duration, +Condition Damage, +Toughness)
  • (+Condition Duration, +Condition Damage, +Power).

I’m thinking if Power can be paired up with Precision and Ferocity, Condition Damage users should have access to something which further supports their builds too.

Thanks!

PS. Sorry if all this has been suggested already. As I said, I stopped monitoring once I saw the (+Power, +Precision and +Vitality) suggested.

Who deserves to be rich?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: justkoh.4073

justkoh.4073

Here’s a philosophical question for you all.

Who deserves to be rich? (in GW2)

Let’s accept that GW2 is a game with trading, money and scarce items (as opposed to say, an FPS where you build up points to unlock weapons on your account, and everyone has the same menu of unlocks.)

So what type of player, in your opinion, “deserves” lots of money? “Deserves” the precursor, the legendary?

In other words, what activities in the game should be well rewarded?

- Is it the person who spends a lot of time farming? (and bots)
- Is it the person who plays with the market?
- Is it the person who completes extremely difficult content? (ie. 1% of the population)
- Is it the person who got lucky on an RNG roll? (and spent 1000’s of gold rolling over and over…)

snip

Who do you think deserve to be rich?

IMO,

  • First of all, all bots deserve a perm ban. This includes farming bots and TP bots,

(My opinion about them getting rich is Anet should up their enforcement)

  • Person who spends a lot of time farming – Not sure about rich but as much as RNG (for random drops) and his wares will get him,

(Assume its legit farm, my opinion about them getting rich is “well deserved” for the effort and business savvy)

  • Person who plays with the market – There is risk involved so fortunes can be made and broken here. What I object to very much is the data from the TP can be downloaded by websites and used by TP players to find opportunities TP-wide with a few keystrokes. I would like this ‘gap’ to be closed. If a player used his whole day to manually search and calculate, I would have no objections.

(My opinion about above group getting rich is… mainly disgust)

  • Person who completes extremely difficult content (ie. 1% of the population) – certainly more deserving that the one who runs around in a group just spamming ‘1’.

(My opinion about above group getting rich is mainly admiration. Wish I was skilled enough too)

  • Person who got lucky on an RNG roll? (and spent 1000’s of gold rolling over and over…) – if everyone who did that got rich, then there is something wrong with the system. If out of 10 people who did that, 6 or more were ‘financially ruined’, then its acceptable to me.

(My opinion about above group getting rich is “you got lucky this time”).

WVW Zerg/Blob Solution?

in WvW

Posted by: justkoh.4073

justkoh.4073

IMO, there is little we can do to prevent zerging.

I don’t necessarily think its a bad thing and I think large scale fights with battlefield siege sound pretty cool. However, one sided zerging is unfair and can get boring after awhile since its nothing more than a QD train in the Mists.

One part of the solution can be equalizing the populations of servers (I suggested server clusters which can be reassigned occasionally as players transfer in a separate post) so that there is at least a fair fight in terms of numbers. Once both sides have zergs, some of the complaints about population disparity should disappear. Coverage could sort itself out as hopefully there will be less stacking.

Another part of the solution is in the supply chain to maintain the zerg. Currently, the biggest zerg likely wins because after clearing the battlefield, the winner simply revives everyone who was killed and moves on. There is no slowing down the momentum of the biggest blobs.

It has been suggested before that the down mechanic needs to be revamped and I agree! In a previous post, I suggested:

•Hard down should require WP to revive. This prevents the larger group from simply steamrolling everything in its path without the need wait for reinforcements.
•Soft down can only be revived by self or by teammates. This will force a decision to be made – break off the attack to save a teammate or carry on fighting and possibly lose him because once hard down, no revive.
•Ideally remove the rally off players killed mechanic. Or at least restrict the number rallied to just 1 and within a close radius.

This means that a large zerg can be whittled down slowly by guerilla attacks and in each fight, players need to make decisions if they should rez downed allies or keep fighting. The fully offensive zerg would find itself depleted quickly.

It also makes it more challenging for zergs to take the enemy keep and garrison since one side is near their own spawn while the other needs to run a further distance. However, under this system being able to hold the enemy keep or garrison is a sign of better tactics and supply chain.

Please can I have your your permission?

Here’s another idea:

Siege hotfoot trap: Small AOE (approximately the footprint of a trebuchet). Instant deployment. Costs 5 supply to set up. When triggered, any enemy player caught in trap cannot operate siege for next 5mins.

Useful for: If an arrow cart user seems particularly good at firing into impossible corners. So good it seems like he’s using hacks. So send out your thief and set it up besides him.

This idea is inspired by some players using hacks in WvW and this will effectively remove their involvement in the battle. It shouldn’t affect a group of legit players since anyone else could probably take over. However, if the group is benefitting from a hacker, well the hacker just became non-operational. Whole group will need to be hackers to keep benefitting.

Invent a new trap!

in WvW

Posted by: justkoh.4073

justkoh.4073

I think one good use for traps is to punish clichés. And one of the biggest in WvW is the zerg/blob.

Asuran Teleportation Trap: It’s suposed to teleport the enemies to the sun… But it only have power to send them back to their spawn…

Some sort of trap that took a large number of people to trigger could be interesting. Say 10 or 15 people to trip it.

Teleportation Trap: When triggered, the next X enemies that pass through this trap get teleported to a nearby location (max range is the same as a Mesmer’s Portal). For best lethality, place the exit trigger at the edge of a nearby cliff or from the top of a high building.

With that in mind, I’m liking the above concepts. It doesn’t violate the guidelines listed by Tyler and it will help slow the momentum of large blobs. Or reduce their numbers to that feasible for counterattack.

So my extension of Jeknar’s Asuran Teleportation Trap: Sets a trap with radius 1200. If 15 enemy players are ever simultaneously on it, trap is triggered and places a buff on all enemy passing through it in the next 3 sec (including the 15 that triggered it). After 3 sec, all payers with the buff are teleported back to map spawn.

My thoughts:

  • Anet rewards “offense” too much and defense too little. Yes, the server maintains control over the structure but the player gains very little personally,
  • Very disheartening to see CMDRs prioritize their own Ktrain/raid over defense of almost completed keeps despite early warnings and pleas for assistance,
  • If the enemy is using hacks, it feels there is little point defending until Anet fixes the problem.

For 2 mins after trap deployment (within the large radius of the trap), anyone who completes a finisher will find themselves finished (i.e. hard down) and the subject of their own finisher animation. The original target remains down (soft).

Trap expires automatically after 2mins. No limit to the number of times triggered basically denying finishers from being used for the fight in the area.

That is a terrible idea………

I’m guessing you must play a Thief in WvW. I’ve always hated stealth finishing.

It is poor design. You can’t adjust to one guy who is killing off the bosses when they shouldn’t be killed. Have you even done Boss Blitz at all?

I have. But since you’ve admitted its poor design, then does it make sense to to report someone over it?

End-Game Content (Time Gap)

What is this “end-game” content I keep hearing about?

The game isn’t ending so why should there ever be “end-game” content?

Why should OP have any such recourse? I know it can be frustrating but this seems like a “others must play by my plan and rules” thing.

You can control it to some extent in dungeons and instances but in a ‘public’ place like the Crown Pavillion? I don’t think its meant to be.

If one person can cause such disruption, then its Anet’s poor design. If its a small group, then my first paragraph applies because collectively, they have a ‘say’ in how to proceed as well.

Overall, the truly successful run is one which is able to adjust to these players.

Stealth and Finishers

I would like that activating finishers will cause uncloak (as in you are uncloaked the moment you attempt to ‘finish’ someone). I dislike the mechanic which allows Thieves to instant kill unmolested.

Shadow Refuge is correctly named in this case and I support its continued use as a reviving tool. As discussed above, there are many countermeasures.

Is "Gift of Heroes" price a typo?

Is the price of the “Gift of Heroes” a typo? It costs 200 tournament tickets (tix) and is used to upgrade Hero’s Weapons (costs 100 tix) to Mistforged Hero’s Weapons (costs 300 tix).

If I have the 300 tix, I’d get the Mistforged Hero’s Weapon direct. And since they’re made from the same type (Hero’s Dagger to create Mistforged Hero’s Dagger), why would I waste the Piles of Crystalline Dust and Bottles of Elonian Wine?

So I’d just like to check if there is a typo?

Email vs Google Authenticator app

Thanks for the reply.

The danger with the mobile app is that phones do get lost or stolen.

However, I’m thinking that if you have an old smartphone, installing the authenticator in it will let you keep it safe at home while enjoying the safety of the mobile authenticator.

Email vs Google Authenticator app

Hoping this is the correct place to post this.

I’d just like to ask, which is better (i.e. safer), email authentication or the Google Authenticator app?

I suppose one con of email authentication is if your computer gets compromised, potentially there is essentially no protection. What are the pros and cons of each?

Are there much complaints by app users about getting locked out?

Thanks!

[Suggestion] Server Clusters to even coverage

in WvW

I agree that it may not be as simple as matching total populations. It could also involve the number of active accounts instead of just total accounts. We also cannot account for individual skill, interest in WvW and that almighty ‘coverage’.

If something like this gets implemented, I will leave it to A-net to come out with the exact criteria.

But, I think that we need to start somewhere. Even ‘coverage’ itself is a function of population. A server with 2000 players may have some chance to muster up 500 players at any particular time but a server with 400 players will have no chance to get that number. So yes, although there are many variables, removing the imbalance in population is the first steps to evening things out, IMO.

As for the rest, servers within the same cluster must learn quickly to cooperate, learn to leverage their strengths and learn the blob tactics that the T1 servers are already familiar with. Perhaps, simply that I could get paired up in a cluster with one server this season and another the next could keep things interesting and could be a reason why some would leave the monotony (yet stability) of a current T1 server.

Separate Elementals and Undead 'team' in Orr

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

When we liberate a temple in Orr, the statues become inactive and elementals spawn. The type of elemental is related to the statue (It was more obvious in the past before megaservers where when you liberated the Temple of Dwayna for example, all Dwayna statues in Orr became inactive).

So we could say the elementals are some manifestation of the Gods’ power. That’s why Dwayna statues spawn Air Elementals, Balthazar statues spawn Fire Elementals etc.

So why are these elementals hostile to the players (who are supposedly trying to help)? Ideally, they should be neutral to players (yellow mobs) and only attack when attacked. Lore-wise the excuse could be that they’re aggressively defending the statue from everything around and so are blind to the player’s good intentions.

But what annoys me is when the elementals coexist with the Orrian undead; and actually cooperate with them against the player! IMO, they should be aggressively struggling against the Orrian undead until they are killed i.e.:

*If the statue is uncorrupted (inactive), elementals continue to spawn around it; defending it against undead and players.

*If the statue is corrupted (active), then undead will take over the area and no new elementals will spawn. The remaining elementals will fight them until they are wiped out.

Therefore, my suggestion is to change the elementals spawned from the statues in Orr to be on a different ‘team’ from the Orrian Undead and fight them as well.
