As per title, I would like the world selection list first sorted by guesting status (with the home world all the way down below) .
Frankly after my guest passes for the day are used up, I really don’t care to know which server is full or heavily populated since I have no ability to go there anyway. What will matter is those 2 I have selected for the day are conveniently at the top so I don’t have to search.
Just trying to get help to pair them up with dungeons where they can shine or at least be welcome
ugh… probably not inaccurate but I didn’t level up so many to just play Warrior and Guardian; and none of mine are zerkers.
Seriously. You were told Zerker is the go-to armor for every class, you have 8 classes and none of them has zerker gear? Talk about being stubborn.
Sorry for being harsh, but you ain’t going to “shine” in any dungeon unless you have zerker gear. If you don’t have DPS in GW2, you are a dead weight and you are getting carried by the other 4 members. As simple as that.
You say it like its life or death.
Or perhaps I should have posted this under General Discussions for more casual replies instead of pros telling me I must go zerker. LOL.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I’ve edited the original post for clarity. My intention is just to join a ‘normal’ (read non-zerker only) group, be able to contribute (by ensuring some important functions or utilities are covered) and see some new content. Nothing so serious as wanting to break any speed records or maximize my gold/min.
@DigitalKirin – thanks for your advice. As above, I may have mis-represented myself here. Currently, I’d just like to see new content having only done AC and CM casually. If I ever want to spend much more time in dungeons, I will do as you’ve suggested.
@SoliSnake & Jeremlloyd – Thanks for sharing your Ranger builds. Have started testing the builds provided. Using Soldier armor and gear though…
Thx for the replies; especially your long, detailed one, SoliSnake.
I’ll check out Frost Spirit and Spotter. Hadn’t given them much thought before.
On recent runs of CM 1 and 3, I noticed that Thieves and Mesmers could help avoid large tracts of mobs with Shadow Refuge.
Any other replies to Original Post would be welcome. Thanks!
ugh… probably not inaccurate but I didn’t level up so many to just play Warrior and Guardian; and none of mine are zerkers. I’ll just take that as Plan B.
Wondering if I can get some advice on dungeons here. If there is a similar thread already, I’d appreciate a redirect.
I have every class and multiples of some classes (all Lvl80s with full Exotics) set up for different builds. Just trying to get help to pair them up with dungeons where they can at least be welcome (I will not be attempting to clear every dungeon path with every class though all story modes are completed with every character).
For example,
Eles in AC P1 and P3 because of the Icebow
or
Reflects are good for XX dungeon Path X etc
Anyone can give some advice on the rest? Thanks in advance!
(Edit: removed the bit about “shining”. If I need zerkers to shine, kitten it. LOL)

+1 from me re: They should be skins, not actual armor.
And if they were actual armor, T3 should be Exotic for the price we’re paying for the set (120-130g).
And, just for flavor, Sylvari T3 armor should come with Superior Runes of the Grove and Asura T3 armor should come with Super Runes of Rata Sum etc.
I’d support this just simply to get another class!
Prefer light armor for skimpy outfits but any new class is welcome.
I have noticed much more ‘visual lag’ recently though… not sure if this is what is meant.
Three examples,
1. I walk to a resource node but cannot harvest it. I have to walk around it (around + front and back), all the time pressing ‘F’ to finally get an interaction a few steps away from the node,
2. In the Toxic Tower in Kessex, I suddenly die (no attacks etc) on the ramps leading up to the final platform and no one seems to be able to rez me even though they see me. Then I relog and apparently, I’ve fallen to my death and my body is really far under the platform.
3. In the Toxic Tower again, I believe I am standing next to the Dyson air purifier to get rid of the toxic spores but after waiting 2 minutes, it doesn’t get removed. Again, I relog and apparently I am some distance away.
In order of gravity (IMO),
1. Allowing download of data which enables the existence of TP monitoring websites and allowing flippers to thrive as they do,
2. Zergs,
3. The design flaw which enabled the ‘Ember’ and ‘Dolyak’ champ farms (i.e. failing events is rewarding),
4. Ascended gear + any tier above Ascended gear
I can’t really think of a No. 5. Even No. 4 is a stretch to me as long as Ascended is the final tier. Pretty happy with the game otherwise.
2. Agree but I’m talking about the ‘server main’ and not any overflow.
!Repositioned nodes are not limited to overflow. Even the main server’s own zone can close on itself.
OK but one case I was in I logged out one character and brought in another immediately and it was already changed. And that’s just shortly after the daily ‘reset’ where everyone is busy with gathering so it cannot be empty. Point is, I don’t think it should have randomly reset like that, as the server main, I expect some stability.
@Geekfox – Anyway, thanks for the replies and I’m not invalidating the possibilities you’ve brought up. I’ve quite a bit of experience with these 2 zones and the ‘rules’ governing said nodes. I am quite convinced something is wrong with Malchor’s Leap. I would like A-net to take a closer look.
(edited by justkoh.4073)
Look out for traits and skills which are triggering automatically. Very often, this happens when you’re harvesting while still being attacked.
Some examples I know about:
Engineer – Hidden Flask (Minor trait under Alchemy). If your health drops to the threshold while harvesting, you’ll drink the elixir (considered an ‘interrupt’) and that causes the ruined node.
Warrior – Shrug it Off (Major trait under Tactics). If you get 2 conditions while harvesting, this will activate (considered an ‘interrupt’) and cause the ruined node.
Elementalist – Arcane Shield (Utility skill). If you cast this up before harvesting and it blocked the 3rd attack, it will explode. When it does, its considered an ‘interrupt’ and you will get a ruined node.
Another possibility is getting dazed or stunned while gathering. That would give you ruined nodes too…
I’d like to use the small interface but its the illegible AH interface that forces me to switch back (to medium).
Thanks for the replies.
@Hannelore – I’d like to clarify that I exactly mean the Orichalcum and Orrian Sapling nodes. Apologies as I didn’t realize that there were so many kinds.
I know about the developers trying to mix things up but what I’m reporting as a bug happens randomly. On one server and not the others and without any new build update. And always only in Malchor’s Leap and never in Cursed Shores so I believe some setting for the zone must be off.
@Geekfox –
1. I know about this one, its expected for new build updates and any server maintenance etc.
2. Agree but I’m talking about the ‘server main’ and not any overflow.
3. This is probably the case and its happening with increasing frequency. I’ve known these random resets occur from 6 months ago but I only saw them maybe once a month. Recently, its been happening more frequently.
Please get this fixed. Thanks!
The nodes in Malchor’s Leap seems to be suffering from random repositionings (i.e. their positions switch even when there is no update). Yesterday, it happened to Maguuma. Today it happened to Dragonbrand.
In contrast, the nodes in Cursed Shore are stable and remain until a new patch or server reset.
Is this intended? If so, please confirm. If not, please investigate and fix.
BINGO! you just mentioned why this is happening if Overall Loot and rewards were nowhere near as bad as they are there wouldnt be the toxic enviroment we are seeing from farmers
I disagree. The better the loot, the greater the opportunity cost and gold/min lost and therefore the more sensitive the farmers are to disruption and therefore the more toxic they will be. Do farmers have a preset limit in their minds about how much was enough and would stop once they reached it? I doubt so.
as for failing events on purpose people hardly even attempted them to begin with except for those doing 100% completion
The Ember farm disrupted the ability to get Arah open did it not? And there’re folks who go around doing all the temple/world boss events.
I’ve not ascertained if the current Dolyak farm prevents any temple or important meta from starting. Assuming it doesn’t, I’d say the Dolyak farm is less disruptive but again, no player owns mobs or events.
I’m against this kind of farm because:
- I feel players should be free to complete any event they want on the map without harassment.
- I regard it as an exploit. The champ reward bag represents a degree of control A-net has over the amount of reward per time played for champ farming as an activity. This kind of farm bypasses that (the amount of loot normally obtained and the event reset timer); which is exactly the point of it, why some players will disrupt it and why I hope A-net patches it.
as for your first statement it does not make sense as if farming had any impact it should lower prices of things sold not increase them as items would be more common and more sellers would keep trying to sell before each other by putting cheaper prices.
What I want isn’t crafting material. I believe the champ farms did bring down the cost of crafting mats somewhat but combination of much more gold in the system + TP flippers has made the prices increase 50-100% since it started.
so all in all the real issue you got is pretty much the toxic attitude farmers have
What is the real issue is not up to farmers to decide.
To be clear, I am not against champ trains (I am against Ember/Dolyak farm-type champ farms – my views above). I think its unfortunate it exists in the way it does now but at least its a legit activity (i.e. events being completed as designed). The existence of the champ trains didn’t bother me much. Any verbal abuse I heard directed or not directed at me was promptly reported (I didn’t block anybody in case I needed to report again. If simple disruption gets that much rage, then I think farmers would die a little inside with a temp ban).
I think there needs to be a income limit to every activity (dungeons, champ farming etc). Of course if you’re a participant and have gotten used to the income level, you’d be upset if it was reduced. I should know. IMO, the nature of champ trains (i.e. the great skill and knowledge needed) means it should not be at the levels of profitability it is now.
1. How does this harm YOU?
2. How does this harm YOU?
3. How does this harm YOU?
4. How does this harm YOU? I call BS on the hundreds – I presume you meant multiple hundreds – of gold per day. 100 is even questionable, but I can see how it’s possible – that’s only in the most extreme/addicted cases.
TL;DR: It doesn’t harm you, so you don’t have standing to complain. Thanks for your opinion, though.
^^^ This many many times
there was a quote from someone of arenanet(or something) and I think it went by something like “We Want players to play how they want” just because you LOOOOOVE dungeons apparently does not mean everyone has to suck em up for you .
what do you even gain by nerfing champs OP? less players playing the game how does that help you again? champion bags give at most around 8 silver and have some sort of DR so they become useless at some point and even so using your psychology Champion farming as you say is as free as dungeon gold NO ONE is paying for the game you do dungeons for free players kill champions for free it literally takes hours and effort to farm a good load of money so you must be complaining because you are too lazy to “farm” OP
How does it harm me?
- First and foremost, the gold I earn has devalued thanks to all the champ farming. Several items that I want and monitored have doubled in price since champ farming started 3 months ago. Champ farming makes it such that no other way of playing can keep up.
- The toxic atmosphere that it has cultivated in areas like QD (more so) and FGS (less so) where champ trains think that they ‘own’ the mobs there. Just a side note that I PVE with my guild and we don’t respect the train and kill what we need if the daily achievement requires it; We won’t intentionally disrupt it. If they’re there when we arrive, we just join in and leave once we got our Champ Killer or Group Events done.
Personally, I think the rewards are too good for the effort, skill and knowledge required but as long as it doesn’t turn verbally abusive, its hardly as bad as…
- The ‘exploit’ of deliberately failing events to spawn champs. The Ember farm and Dolyak farm are such examples. The combination of it being an ‘exploit’ + exploiters turning abusive when disrupted is why this one needs to get fixed and fast. What I will say about this one is I am comforted looking at the recent Toxic Offshoot events in Kessex Hills that A-net looks like they’re getting it (event fails if Siegemaster dies, Engineers who can be defended by a small team and who will eventually complete the event, elites spawning instead of all champs etc).
(I say ‘exploit’ because AFAIK right now, its not officially recognized to be one in A-net’s eyes though I think they just don’t want to ban so many people. In the eyes of many, it is an exploit. Anyway, rules have been known to change so don’t go hiding behind this for too long.)
- I think all the botters and verbal abusers I’ve reported could also claim not to have harmed me directly as well; and I’d have to agree. But that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be reported. So “TL;DR: It doesn’t harm you, so you don’t have standing to complain” is misleading. In fact, the ‘mind your own business’ mindset is exactly what farmers, exploiters and botters want to promote.
As for this:
there was a quote from someone of arenanet(or something) and I think it went by something like “We Want players to play how they want” just because you LOOOOOVE dungeons apparently does not mean everyone has to suck em up for you .
As a play style, champ farming can continue to exist. But the rewards just need to reflect the risk, difficulty, knowledge and skill. Sorry to say mashing ‘1’ to get rewards is not any.
(edited by justkoh.4073)
Champ farming has been at the heart of most of the verbal-abuse and deliberate event failing type exploits in recent memory. I hope A-net nerfs the champ reward further or the reworks the reward/quest structure.
I suggest,
- Make it such that champ loots is accumulated in a buffer for each player until the event succeeds. If it fails, no rewards aside from token XP are given.
- Put a cap on the number of people who will be rewarded for the kill. I believe if you put the cap at 5 (for example), the ‘zerg’ would automatically adjust itself to approximately 5. I cannot understand why a mindless activity which requires no skills and has no risk should generate the biggest rewards.
- Make use of the elites. I believe this has been implemented in the Toxic Offshoot quests in Kessex Hills and in combination with other safeguards, has worked well in preventing them from turning into champ farms. A-net, just please remember to update your older events as well.

Because of TTS, I think the server that has downed Teq most should be… the Overflow.
To answer the question in the title directly, I won’t.
For example, I skipped the entire SAB series because I wanted to play GW2, not Super Mario Bros or whatever game SAB was trying to imitate. Despite missing out on skins, achievement points and content.
PS. Being slightly burnt out from the rapid LS releases helped too.
Just want to say that I applaud A-net for this change.
I hope this nerf sticks. Good job!
I’m enjoying the Teq encounters. I’m really not too concerned about the rewards or lack of it… I believe I’ve been able to enjoy the encounters exactly because I’m with a large (Teq-killing) guild.
I only wish there’s something more to do while waiting for Teq to show up. Currently, it can be an entire hour of waiting around doing nothing once the zone starts populating to fight Teq.
I am very much looking forward to the other World Bosses to be buffed up with interesting mechanics.
Necromancer – waterproof flesh golem
Ranger – perma-storage of pet until summoned. Better still if we get a buff to compensate
Mesmer & Engineer – reliable 25% increased movement speed
Elementalist – weapon swap slot (just for alternate weapon storage. Cannot be activated in combat)

I only have problems with folks that are going out of their way to spoil the train. Otherwise, just move to the next champ and life goes on. I still recall when a small party politely asked the Icezerg in map chat if they could tackle the Champ Quaggan on their own without interference. The response was nothing but positive and folks cheered them on and wished them well. And yes, we just bypassed them and let them have their fun/challenge.
If someone, or a group of someones is simply playing along why should they have to ask the zerg for permission to simply play? They have as much right to do the content as the zerg.
To me, this is like having to ask your spouse if its ok to sleep, or to eat, or to use the bathroom. You shouldn’t have to ask permission to do something that should be considered as part of the natural order.
Because if you know there’s a train that usually kills a champ, it’s polite to ask first. Polite, ya know, the whole ‘treating people how you’d like to be treated’ thing?
I don’t think politeness has anything to do with it. You don’t need to ask for permission to kill something in the game because someone else (or a group of someones) might come around and want to kill it.
If people want to run a train, that is their choice. But that choice is not binding on anyone else. Making choices comes with a certain degree of implicit responsibility. The people in the train need to take responsibility for the fact that one of the creatures they might want to kill will be already dead.
But politeness has everything to do with it. The interaction that was described was a civilized one wherein everyone was polite to everyone else and no confrontation or foul language was necessary. It’s not the ‘asking for permission’ part that is important in the interaction, it’s recognizing that there are other people playing the game and treating them respectfully.
I will take it that the request was “to take the champ without interference”.
On one hand, it is encouraging to see the mutual respect shown by both groups. On the other hand… I’m just concerned that making such a request reinforces any misconception that the champtrain owns the champs when in reality, both groups are just as entitled to take the champ.
OP, as many have pointed out, just kill what you need if you can. No one gets to call dibs on the champs.
Yes, and report any abusive messages.
Don’t bother with the claim that QD is a farming zone. The same could be said of any zone as and when a more profitable route is found.
That said, the champ-trains are a convenient way to clear the ‘group event’ achievement category.
I clear as much of the PVE non-WvW ones as I can.
The way I play is (B) followed by (A) i.e. I will target the remainder once I’ve completed my daily routine.
I would like GW3 to be… non-existent.
GW1 to GW2 was instanced to open-world. I cannot imagine what excuse could they give to create GW3 that I can accept and support.
IMO, I don’t believe that A-net thinks an expansion will not sell. So many requests for it and an expansion would mean being able to charge the player-base for content; from the company’s perspective, what’s not to like? Also, I just don’t see the next dragon released in temp content.
The problem I think is that they have nothing (or not enough in quantity to define an expansion anyway) right now that’s the same quality as the base game. That’s going to take a lot of time to produce and polish. I hope that when they do release an expansion, it will be as immersive and beautiful as the vanilla.
So in the meantime, they try to keep us busy with distractions like the LS and grind like Ascended gear.
Just my theory.
I went for the new longer hair on my Ranger.
That’s a nice windblown look that’s really suitable for rangers.
Once I can convince myself that isn’t a starfish attached to the head, I’ll be changing my ranger too (i.e. wish the “flower” stuck out a bit more like a flower than following the exact shape of the head).
Its been done. Removed.
(edited by justkoh.4073)
I’d like to suggest changing the daily essence of luck reward to be a percentage of our current %MF bar. 50 luck really is kinda insulting, especially at higher %MF levels.
I don’t really need it but just to throw it out there as a suggestion.
How about making completing the story up to the Order Arc (as described here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Personal_storyline) a requirement for the race change? Once the race arc is completed, the rest is not race sensitive anyway. Any investment made into racial skills are lost and all cultural armor becomes unequipped.
Think about it, A-net; folks will probably buy a Total Makeover Kit + Name change contract right after. Mmmm… $$$
Perhaps as added flavor, every NPC will henceforth address the player as “freak” (like in http://zeldawiki.org/Thievery).
IMO, champ farm zerging is too profitable for the effort/skill required. Yes, there should be more ways to earn gold and people should not need to feel forced into this form of gameplay in order to keep up economically.
That said, champ farm zerging still sits easier with me than that ember farm exploit.
I am not a game developer but I don’t think it is necessary for me to suggest an alternative in order for me to state an opinion or observation. This I leave to A-net to figure out; they’re paid to.
We now know that if the humans in Ascalon and Orr had made their city gates only accessible by clearing a Jumping Puzzle, the Charr would never had won.
(edited by justkoh.4073)
At the start of each dungeon instance, I would like an option to party-vote the disabling of cinematics.
If it happens to be enabled, you can skip manually each time.
Agree that underwater combat is lacking at the moment. IMO, they have until the DSD release to fix it. Right now, Orr isn’t still sunken.
Would be a plus but it would degrade the value of Legendaries.
If anything, I would say Legendaries can change stat the first time, after thakittens fixed.
Apparently, you think PVE was boring and I don’t like PvP. But just as you want people who “want to grow their favorite character” to be satisfied, I want Ascended to be the final ceiling for gear grind. I believe both preferences must be respected and a middle path found. A-net needs to find a way or risk losing part of their playerbase.
If I wanted gear grind, I’d have stayed with another MMORPG.
My answer on gameplay time is accurate. 2.7K hours on actual PVE and not AFK or farming either.
Regarding the gameplay, I like GW2 the way it was (up to the Queen’s Jubilee patch). I just think its time for them to release the next chapter and not try to keep us logging in by introducing more time-gated grind.
Not going to debate this. I’ve said my piece. You’re welcome to your opinion too.
GW1 vets (including myself)
How many hours have you spent on gw1 PvE? 100 or 1000 hours?
2.7K hours
IMO, GW2 doesn’t need that kind of progression. It needs a new class, maybe a new race, new weapons and skills for each current class and most importantly, new permanent content like the next dragon.
And what about players that want to grow their favorite character? You can’t just say to them: “find another game”. That’s not the solution.
I never said “find another game” and I believe Ascended equipment is (unfortunately) here to stay. But I’d like you to consider that GW1 was a game where you leveled up to 20, could buy max armor/weapons easily and then proceed to enjoy the content. I believe many GW1 vets (including myself) want that and hence the disappointment with recent direction.
(Yes, you could say this is not GW1 but IMO, the more they diverge from the GW1 formula, the more it approaches a bait and switch)
I seem to understand that Ascended is the final tier of weapons and armor and the grind to get them is considerable. So let it be and hopefully it satisfies the subset of players you’re talking about. Personally I will be sticking with Exotics and will quit once they announce another tier or make new content require Ascended gear.
That is all.
I have a question and would appreciate some clarification.
1. If I map dodging into one button, that’s technically one button = one ability. Is that allowed?
2a. If I want to notify Party every time I want to cast a certain buff (for example). Is one button = “say string of text” + one ability OK?
2b. If 2a above is not OK, is separating that into two buttons OK?
Thanks!
I can’t really blame people because most of the good names are taken by now.
I think some good ones may still be available but it takes many, many frustrating tries to find them.
IMO, GW2 doesn’t need that kind of progression. It needs a new class, maybe a new race, new weapons and skills for each current class and most importantly, new permanent content like the next dragon.
First time was when I opened a Black Lion chest and got a Permanent Bank Access Contract which was then worth 200g. I didn’t use it or put it up for sale.
The second time, was when I checked the price on TP about a month later (after the Queen’s Jubilee patch) and it was now worth more than 400g. Yes!
In time, aim to take them all. Once you have all professions, nothing is ever a nerf because for every nerf, something else becomes stronger.
In the start, I didn’t choose Charr because I prefer my characters to be beautiful female Human (or Norn). I made one just for the story.
As to why I won’t make a Charr now,
IMO they’re ugly,
Deformed non-cultural armor,
Tail clipping on non-cultural armor,
Really bad on jumping puzzles,
Lumbering feeling during play
I’ve never missed a single daily since Laurels were introduced (I only do the PVE non-dungeon daily achievements).
However, I’ve not managed to get the double rewards when A-net reset monthlys (like this month).
After investigation by our programmers, they have determined that the fix to this issue would be too risky and could end up making the situation worse than it is. Unfortunately, this means that we’re not able to make changes to correct the issue. We’re sorry about this and we will be implementing ways to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future.
I was at 3/4 and even started up a new crafting profession just to do the Masterwork Crafter. Cost me quite a bit in materials as they’re currently at an inflated price. This is very frustrating and worse to see A-net just shrug and say there’s nothing you can do about it when its not our faults.
Regina, as you say, A-net will be implementing ways to ensure that this doesn’t happen again in future; So, can you state on behalf of the GW2 team that if this happens again, that you WILL rollback in spite of the ‘risks’? We shouldn’t be penalized for A-net’s mistakes.
Thanks
I agree that new content is being released too fast. I can hardly catch my breath.
Ideally, I’d like Living Story stuff to be released monthly; each just lasting 2 weeks. Give us 2 weeks of ‘normal time’ in between to do things we like (which may not be Living Story related).
Perhaps this will help a little until A-net gets it fixed. There is an interesting tip section that could give you a better chance of success. I reproduce it here in case it gets removed.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scarlet%27s_Minions_Invade!
Scarlet’s Minions
Tip: For the minion meta, progress is made by killing the creatures coming from the portals 1, thus it is beneficial to continue killing minions after an event is complete. This does not apply to the molten nor the aetherblade metas.
Molten Alliance
Tip: To progress the molten alliance, you simply need a few players to snipe the drills. Others can skip.
Aetherblades
Note: Defeating the group event of Aetherblades does not count towards decreasing the bar. After defeating a group, a captain will spawn. Focus and kill him, then skip the rest of the units that spawn infinitely until he is defeated. Ignoring the captain is a pirate farm which some groups will attempt at the risk of losing the meta event.
So hopefully, this will give everyone interested a better understanding of what/who to target. In the case of the Aetherblades, ignoring the event may not be the best thing to do. Help kill the Captains and it will end the wave sooner. And always kill Twisted Minions.
