Playing since the first day of headstart and never getting an exotic drop in the open world goes beyond the law of averages. You cannot chalk that up to “bad luck”. Sorry. Also, people didn’t notice this happening until after the Karka/Southsun Cove patch back in November. I hardly think all of these people having loot issues since that day can be considered a coincidence. And while Mr. Johanson and his team looked into the loot tables, I have to wonder why they went that route when people have always said it was diminishing returns. It was called a “DR bug” from the beginning. Maybe they should have checked there, first? But what do I know, right? I’m just a brainless consumer with delusional tendencies, with a penchant for making things up. Oh, I also wear a tinfoil hat. That’s just adorable, really. Typical.
If you’re playing a Mesmer, you won’t even need Pain Inverter, LOL.
Sure, no class really NEEDS anything, but when its time to hit the ‘blow up all my clones in his face’ button, id rather know i have a stun on him while my clones move in for the kill
I’ll give you that. If they hadn’t nerfed the Sylvari’s Grasping Vines, I’d say go for that. But Asura are hilarious.
It’s hard to have public relations when you refuse to have any sort of relations with your public. Well, other than insulting them and insinuating that they’re delusional, pathological liars without the intellect to understand what’s really happening to them (it’s just bad luck, you see).
If you’re playing a Mesmer, you won’t even need Pain Inverter, LOL.
There is a huge gap between player perception through actual experiences and the dev statements. I am not saying which, if either, is right but that gap must close otherwise this game will hemorrhage players while the devs remain (publicly) in denial. Either way the gap must close.
Anecdotally, DR will not stop bots … it may thin out a few of the less committed bots but not all … it does is chase real (but maybe more casual) players away leaving a higher concentration of more resilient bots. Just a personal opinion.
What you say should be common sense to them, but they do not seem to have any interest in logic or sense. They also seem to have no interest in us, whatsoever. To me, it seems they are just waiting this out, hoping it just goes away. Well newsflash, Anet: this is not just going to go away if you ignore it. You either fix it, or you deal with what comes, and it will come sooner or later. And when it does, don’t pretend to be all shocked and befuddled. Though I am starting to wonder if you’ll even have to pretend to do such a thing.
Maybe it’s just me, but every time I enter Fields of Ruin (from the portal to the Ebon Hawk in Divinity’s Reach), my usual 100+ frames per second gets knocked down to around 5-7 frames per second. Also, while running around on the map I have noticed tearing between the “cells”, where the seams meet. Sometimes my frames will go back to normal, sometimes they won’t, even when I log out and back in. Memory leak, maybe? I don’t know.
Well, that settles that I guess. We’re all just delusional. Everyone go about your business. Nothing to see here, folks, move along. The case has been solved, you see. Mission accomplished. Job done.
I got down-leveled in an 80 zone, and I’m 80. And I got the crap kicked out of me by another 80 who was orange because I was down-leveled. Make sense?
I have felt the same as you, OP, since the 30th time I helped to down a Champion, only to realize that there was absolutely nothing to loot from its corpse, and no chest appeared (well, at least not for me). There is absolutely no sense in wasting 20+ minutes of your life hitting an over-sized muppet when the only benefit is a medal and a few pieces of silver. The loot/reward system in this game is so bad, it’s almost like I’m being trained to live in a 3rd world country with exceedingly long hours and bare minimum pay. Maybe there should be a Krait following my character around, holding a leash and cracking a whip.
Playing every day since launch and completing every heart in the game at least 5 times, and spending ungodly amounts of time in Cursed Shore doing events with large groups of people . . . and never once seeing an exotic drop? Yeah, I think that qualifies as very unlucky.
Why couldn’t this have been done two months ago? So much aggravation could have been avoided! I’m not saying this will resolve any issues of ill will but it could have spared many of us months of unnecessary angst and loss of faith in Anet and likely would have spawned far more cooperation among your player base.
I think it’s pretty obvious they don’t care. Or maybe their hands are tied by upper management, and upper management is full of idiots. When I look at this game, it’s obvious that at least the art department cared about their work, and were passionate. But the suits upstairs are running a business, and they are just plain lousy at public relations. I’ve never seen a company so out of touch with its consumer base before. It’s actually quite appalling to me, to see such a lack of communication between them and us, and therefore, I have no choice but to assume they couldn’t care less about our dissatisfaction, whatsoever. That’s bad business practice, as the ones they’re upsetting here will likely never buy another product with their label on it. But that’s the way it is.
I have 8 characters, all 80. 5 of them have 93% map completion, the other 3 have 66%. I’ve been playing since headstart. I have never had an exotic drop for me in the open world. Ever. Period. Not for any of them.
The devs never said they were against farming, they said the opposite. They’re just against botting, which impacts farming.
That’s what I thought. Except all the traps setup for bots are affecting real players, too. Why do we get punished for their actions? It feels like I’m at the airport getting groped by the TSA sometimes, and I haven’t even done anything wrong.
The problem is, those of us who have issues with loot drops, (in my experience) are worse off with magic find. Until the loot issue is properly resolved (and magic find ends up working as intended) then magic find may be necessary for more good drops.
It’s gonna be tough to resolve an issue that they (and a lot of fanboys) refuse to acknowledge exists in the first place.
You complain about the daily; I complain about the monthly that forces one to do Fractal dungeons. I have yet to complete a monthly since the game launched.
One of the requirements should be to log into the game.
A set of armor requires 30 pieces. Took about 4 months though to get to 25. It ain’t a race.
Funny, because further up you said that when a person hits level 80, all they’ll need is 5-6 gold to make a full set of exotic gear. Now you’re saying it took you 4 months to grind out 25 ectoplasms? Sounds like someone can’t keep their story straight.
Of all the points listed by the OP only the ascended gear is the actual problem.
Yes exotics do take some time to get but as in the original promise of the game once you get them you are set. After nov 15th however that however is a lie.
Unfortunately right. It also broke the loot drops for some people, and those unaffected refuse to believe it.
Also, you can craft an exotic set for 5 or 6 gold if you’ve played the game to 80 and harvested as you went along.
Complete hogwash. It costs that much just to buy the globs of ectoplasm needed for a couple pieces of exotic jewelry.
Baloney, by the time I hit 80 on my necro last week (3rd lvl 80), I had 25 pieces of ecto. You know, from breaking down the rares I was crafting, running around in Orr farming and just playing the game. Bought 5 more ectos…and a few other mats and crafted a full set of rampagers armor. Jewelry later…but everything is rare.
5 gold and some change..total
A set of exotic jewelry requires 25 globs of ectoplasm. That would cost 10 gold on the trading company, currently. Not everyone gets so lucky to see that many rares drop, and even if they do, there’s no guarantee you’ll get an ectoplasm. I’m curious to know how long it took you to grind out 25 ectos?

So what happened to play how you want to play?
My question exactly. Still waiting on when we’ll be able to craft ascended gear.
I didn’t bring it on myself. All of the in-denial, self-loathing ex-WoW players brought it on myself. Along with the Pokemon mini-game that everyone made fun of Blizzard for doing.
Exotic gear is inferior. I don’t want to walk around in Wal-mart armor, I want to walk around in my Armani suit. With Johnny Gat shades.
I just about have 8 80s now, one of each profession. I remember back when Anet said we could play the game any way we want, and still get endgame gear. I would like to know when I’ll be able to crafted ascended gear, thanks.
Yeah I’m at 2% still, it’s been a while. Doesn’t help that everyone and their grandmother is downloading it at the same time, either.
I don’t know. I still have PTSD from hearing “EVERYONE! COME!” so many times before. It’s going to take some time before I’m brave enough to face those annoying, mouthy zombies again.
So it really was you I saw running around with lightning shooting out of their fingertips the other day.
It’s just orichalcum. It’s way harder to get tier 6 mats to drop. At least orichalcum is a guarantee if you look for the nodes.
You’re not the only one. I was in Harathi Hinterlands the other day, and apparently the gate to the final skill challenge had been closed shut for 3 or 4 days. The only way through was to kill Kol. I wish they would have routine server resets.
I bet you the Asura sitting there is the evil mastermind responsible, if it ever does happen. Probably an Inquest mole.
I just leveled 3 alts from 1 to 71 in less than 2 weeks. If it had just been 1 character, it would’ve been 80 much sooner. Leveling isn’t where the grind is.
Take a look at what nerfs did to the ranger and engineer professions, and wonder how long it will be before those professions are worth more than a quaggan dropping. That’s one reason.
The flesh golem stands around like a drooling doofus 50% of the time, and the shadow fiend behaves in the exact same way. The blood fiend and bone fiend are okay. But the other two need to be fixed. Darc isn’t exaggerating. The flesh golem will attack things in the surrounding area as you are passing through, who were just minding their business. The script that runs them is obviously broken, but what else is new in GW2?
Well, they can either give us mounts eventually, or give everyone a signet with +25% movement speed. Right now the thief, necromancer, elementalist, and ranger have one. That’s half the game’s professions that can move at mount speed 24/7 while the other half can’t. Could just get rid of those signets and introduce mounts so everyone can get +25% movement speed, and spare us the humiliation.
Hello, I’m here to crush your dreams.
> dies like Padme in Revenge of the Sith <
Yeah, don’t you love how you can never get a refund for anything? I accidentally bought the wrong manual and had to sell it on the trading post for way less than I paid, just to get any money back at all.
When I try to be funny, I always fail. It’s only when I am not trying that people laugh at my epic failness.
But under the humor is a bit of truth. 1 second of fear is hardly worth the time it takes to push 5 and click. I’ve only been playing my Necromancer in the past week, I have leveled from 1 to 46. I can’t seem to get a grip on the class because it seems to have a lot of broken toys. The minions also seem to be blind, deaf, dumb and stupid 50% of the time. I love how I will get into a fight and my flesh golem just stands there, watching me die. Oh, and they die in about 2 seconds or less. I don’t want to hear any rangers complaining about their pets. I have one of those, too, and the pet isn’t anywhere near as useless.
I agree with the OP. Making the real players (us) suffer for things that bots do is just wrong. It makes about as much sense as DRM like SecuROM. You punish your paying customer for something that software pirates do. Sooner or later people get sick of it and stop buying your games. The logic is epic fail, Anet. Wake up!
. . . because it cures hiccups.
True story.
Necromancer minions are special, as in they have two braincells and half of them don’t work. That’s my only complaint about the Necromancer, really. Well . . . that, and they excel at condition damage, but the 25-stack limit kind of puts a damper on that.
Unfortunately true, Keiran. It’s Fractal Wars 2, now. If you’re on Tarnished Coast, I could help you wipe them out, but they’ll just respawn again and kill those sad frog people in no time. The only way to get them to come back to life is to wipe out the risen and end the event. Unless that happens, the event just sits there until the timer runs out, and I seem to remember the timer lasting 45 minutes, at least. Very inconvenient nowadays.
You’re talking like it’s going to destroy Gw2. I’m talking about SMALL Addons like a cooldown message for the most important skills like the Healing skill and Elite skills. It’s not going to be a 1 button smash contest <.<….
So you want them to enable add-on authoring just for this one thing? Why not ask them to put it into the game, in the ideas forum?
Hyleks aren’t too bright, it would seem. They haven’t invented doors or gates yet.
There’s always an event with the risen that spawns right outside the walls of that place, and they get overrun. What I don’t understand about this game is, why do events spawn when no one is around? And no, not just a few players, but enough to put an end to it. It’s really sad to look at Orr and see how so many places are overrun with no one to stop them. That shrine in Malchor’s Leap (the one with the skill challenge in it) is always overrun by risen and a mesmer champion. It takes a big group to complete that event, but it spawns again soon after. No one is ever around there these days, so the entire place is just a cesspit.
I don’t know about you, but I remember playing a certain game for years called Warhammer Online. That game didn’t have many restrictions in the add-on department, so eventually a certain one called “Nerfed Buttons” got popular, well at least it did to a few so-called top players. Essentially, you could set this thing up to play the game using only 1 button. That one button changed depending on the situation. Somehow this was totally fine with the devs at Mythic. Not so fine with everyone else getting their face crushed in by kids who were pressing one button over and over. That’s literal face-rolling. :-/
So now everyone has to play pretty much by the same rules as the next person, on equal ground. We have a total of 1-5 weapon moves, and 6-0 utility keys. Tell me what an add-on would be needed for, exactly? Is this a DPS meter thing?
Does anyone think it’s weird that I have done every heart in the game with five different characters, and never, ever had an exotic drop from anything in the world? My warrior is in all magic find gear (100% without food), and I have run up and down Orr with him, slaying everything for hours on end, and even still, I’ve been playing since beta weekend events, and I have never, ever seen an exotic drop in the world.
I am on Tarnished Coast. A lot of people seem to be in denial that the population is way down from what it used to be. For the most part I will see maybe 3 people on any map. Lion’s Arch was booming during the Wintersday event, but it’s back to being nearly empty again. I see RPers in Queensdale a lot, if that’s your thing.
They didn’t address the ranger profession, they didn’t address the loot drop problem, they didn’t address the goofy pet AI. That’s what didn’t happen.
Horses haven’t been invented yet. So instead of saddling up on Moa birds, the Asura capitalized on the lack of mounts by putting portals all over Tyria. When you think about it, it makes perfect logical sense, right? Sure it does.
Remember the Halloween jumping puzzle? I hope I don’t end up having to do it again.
