Play on Tarnished coast, there are people everywhere. I’m serious. It’s the place to be.
Just don’t bother going into WvW on Tarnished Coast right now.
If we had moderators in real life like we do in GW2, the world would be full of mutes.
Love how this has been derailed into an anti-thief thread. Don’t we already have a crusade against stealth in the official Thief forum?
Guess I need to farm 55+ elaborate totems and ectos, again. This could take a while.
Tarnished Coast is like the physically disabled Quaggan in a “Kick the Quaggan in the Face Contest”, and the two contestants are beefy Norn on a rampage fueled by steroids and alcohol.
WvW was kind of the whole reason I bought the game. Me and my fiancee played Warhammer for a few years, and she got addicted to open-world PvP. When that game went down the crapper (well, it kind of already was down the crapper, but it got flushed to the very bottom of the septic system, as it were), we got our PvP fix where we could until Guild Wars 2 was released. She told me, “It looks like Warhammer with a bigger budget!” At the time, I agreed. I wasn’t the jaded cynic then, that I am now.
We took our time with the game, because maybe in the back of our minds, we were trying to avoid being disappointed. But when we finally got ourselves into exotics (not as cheap or easy as people claim), we went out into WvW together. It was like being a kid excited for Christmas, but finding a stocking full of dog droppings, and a giant, steaming stool in the corner next to the cookies and milk. Now I am thinking Elder Scrolls Online is our last resort for good open-world PvP. I guess we’ll see. I don’t see this game ever being fixed, because the developers don’t really have any motivation to make that happen. To be honest, they don’t seem to really care that much about the game at all. So why should we?
Dear Blackgate [Urge] chick,
I like your personalities.
That’s how I want to die in real life. With a face full of cleavage.
I setup my warrior with 30 in defense and tactics, in full cleric’s gear (with soldier’s runes). My banners were healing for over 300 a second on everyone, and I used shouts to help out. But . . . bah, it’s not enough. Looks like support roles don’t get kisses, they get kicked.
I could ask this here, or in every profession forum. I’ve been messing around with Guardian, Warrior, Elementalist and Engineer. I can’t decide who brings more to the table as pure support (maximum boon duration and healing power, spreading the love around, etc.). Surprisingly the Warrior with banner regeneration doesn’t seem too bad to me, but I still can’t decide. I don’t see too many of these types running around out in WvW. Probably because support isn’t rewarded in this game, right?
Noone really gives a rip about badges… I have dealt with BS thieves fairly well before but the issue with haste backstab combos is that the rendering issue takes so long that they are nearly halfway through their combo before I even have a target and by then my health is done… And this is coming from a defensive build. NowI know other classes have access to haste/quickness/stealth mesmers have timewarp and a couple invis skills and timewarp is great for groups but it is centered around an area and not on one specific player. Warriors have frenzy but they take double damage. Rangers have hide in plain sight for a certain amount of time and quickening zephyr. But none of these other classes are as rewarded for the combination of stealth AND quickness like thieves. And before you have the audacity to stay use stun breakers or a block or some other random bs. Think about the amount of time it takes compared to the amount of time it takes their combo to finish while hasted. If the computer can’t register that a player is there in that amount of time how can we and then also react. This is broken and please don’t try to argue other wise.
Why take it out on one class? Culling is the real issue, not thieves.
Any post worth its salt usually vanishes into the 4th dimension. So mysterious.
I am wondering if all the people who called us liars are feeling a bit sheepish.
Yes, home border land’s defense can be very frustrating in T2, but try your hands with offensive BLs, your opinion of WvW being boring might change. And you play a thief, one of the funnest profs in WvW, once you get enough experiences you’d be able to pull off some crazy stunts
It’s not boring, really, it’s just that it feels like we’re against impossible odds. I don’t think we are bad by any means at all, we just don’t have the numbers. After a few hours, it starts to feel pointless to try anymore. But try we do.
Have you tried joining a WvW guild or avoiding TCBL? At least, that’s where I assume you’re going based on the description.
I wasn’t about to throw myself at guilds just yet until I got more experience. I played Warhammer for years, but I was a Zealot (healer). Now I’ve been running out there as a thief. I don’t do too badly, I guess. But I still don’t fully understand the setup. And yes, you are right. Borderlands. I don’t think I’ve gone beyond the top half of the map yet, as we keep fighting over the same 3 or 4 areas all day long. We don’t have enough people, and it’s frustrating. Every time we go to take a keep, a group 4x the size of ours comes out and it’s like a freight train running over a basket full of kittens (<—— not a bad word, I mean literal kittens, just to be clear). Fight to take one of the three supply camps, our garrison, lose them a few minutes after. Wash, rinse, repeat. Try to take the eastern keep, fail, run back, die again . . . you get the picture.
Well, I’ve only been WvWing for the past 3 or 4 days, but it does seem to me that my server (Tarnished Coast) just doesn’t have enough people interested in participating in WvW. We try anyway, and usually fail, but I’m also seeing commanders in map chat getting bitter towards each other, as if there is some sort of power struggle or something. I’m new, so I don’t know the history. But shouldn’t they be working together? Or is it just an inside joke? Trolling, maybe? -shrug-
If it didn’t take 300+ badges to buy a piece of armor in WvW, no one would be complaining so much about thieves anymore. You’d be laughing at us instead.
Anet doesn’t care what you/we want.
Well I’m not so much feeling the increased loot drops. Look what I’ve got . . . a spike. Oh, another spike. Yep. Another spike. Oh, it’s porous bones this time. Look, another spike. :-/
Yeah. My server has been up against the same people for so long, I don’t even remember who came before them. But they zerg us to death 24/7. We just don’t have enough people contributing to WvW, they’re all too busy running fractals and erping.
There was a patch with the quote-unquote “maintenance”, otherwise the achievement system would not be broken, and there would have been no files to download when the servers came back up. I wonder why they insist on lying to us?
I feel the OP. My biggest backstab in all berserker’s gear is 4,000. On a crit.
You should read the skill desription then. Couse you are face stabbing.
I’m laughing on the outside.
But on the inside, I’m crying.
I have rampager armor and weapons with berserker jewelry. That gives me 60% critical chance and 62% critical damage bonus (on top of the base 50%). I lost 26% critical damage for more precision (+495, to be exact) and +352 condition damage. I’ve done the math, and berserker’s jewelry would have given me more critical damage bonus than armor + weapons, but strangely armor + weapons has higher stats than jewelry, usually. Just not with critical damage bonus, jewelry wins on that.
Honestly, though. I don’t think hybrids work well in this game. It seems you either go all the way in one direction, or you’ll end up mediocre. Maybe that’s just the way I am seeing it now.
You killed a Blackgater in one hit, no one is going to cry or miss them. Good job.
Yeah that signature comes from an ex-Anet employee’s comments, and they were speaking of upper management there. Seems to still be the case, actually.
Ahem . . . well anyway, thanks for the advice. I guess I’ll go learn how to play now. :-P
P.S. Karolis, you told another guy in another thread that this is caused by culling. Here, you say it’s because I’m noob. kitten?
(edited by jwburks.9735)
Unless he’s from Blackgate.
They were random people I found running around out in the mists, LOL. And learning my class won’t help me fight what I can’t see.
@Karolis: I was completely unaware of that, but thanks for enlightening me. Now I know something I did not previously know.
@Maugetarr: No idea. He was visible maybe .5 seconds total the entire time.
I feel the OP. My biggest backstab in all berserker’s gear is 4,000. On a crit.
Huh . . . I did not know that. Wow, how can I be such a noob after playing this game so much? :-/ My thief is glass cannon in all berserker’s gear, but I think my spec is not quite right for this. I’m not sure what the spec they’re using is. Is it 20/30/20?
Don’t get me wrong, I have an 80 thief in all exotics. But I’ve only recently started going out into WvW (the reason why is because I leveled 8 characters to 80 and did all maps, so that took a long time). My thief is probably my favorite character but I was leery running out there, being so squishy. However, I was running with a 6-man group and a thief came out of nowhere and killed every single one of us. The thing is, they could blink in and out of visibility pretty quickly, and for a long time.
But how? My thief has immunity to stealth for a time after coming out of it. So how did this one thief go into stealth so quickly, and stay there for so long? Is it a glitch in WvW or something?
Geotherma. Worst troll ever.
I don’t hate RNG. That’s been around since Final Fantasy games were invented. It’s the diminishing returns that I am hating on.
It’s not just you. It also happens on my ranger when I throw my torch at someone. Sometimes the torch hits, then vanishes, and there is no burning. This started happening only recently.
What? No endgame? Come on guys, we have Southsun Cove and the new Living Story. Two gigantic content updates! Come on, get happy!
Don’t be rude.
It can hurt feelings ya know?
So if I don’t sugarcoat the reality of the situation, that makes me rude?
I think it’s going to be coats all the way to 80. Exotic isn’t a coat, but rare sure is.
Someone needs to explain to me why there are no horses in the game, anywhere. Because we have centaurs in Tyria. Was there some sort of horsey genocide I’m unaware of?
Really, I thought in the early game, people used an exploit to get their precursors. How fast people tend to forget.
No, never. See, there’s this thing called a reputation . . . and another thing called trust, and another called respect. I don’t have any of those things for Anet now.
What? No endgame? Come on guys, we have Southsun Cove and the new Living Story. Two gigantic content updates! Come on, get happy!
ITT; people want the super-rare epic item to be far less rare and epic.
I sure hope that when I get a legendary not everybody is running around with it cuz Anet caved to the whiny.
What is rare and epic about buying something from the TP? Oh, and I see plenty of people running around with them, some people have at least 3. Not so legendary anymore.
LOL . . . “Legendary” has been downgraded to “Gangnam Style”.
Isn’t it funny that the DR mechanism is supposedly there to combat bots, but instead it gives them a stronger market? Because it is so frustrating to get T6 mats, it is much easier to buy them from the TP. And where do most of those T6 mats on the TP come from? Bots.
Funny they mention a monthly fee. Now we know what happens when you play a buy-to-play game: You have no voice, and no one cares about your problems. And the people who work for Anet have absolutely no issue with being rude in these very forums, either. Can’t say I’ve ever seen such garbage before. I guess they all slept through Business 101.
Look on the bright side. The Elder Scrolls Online betas have started.
You can’t say “farm” here, that’s blasphemy.
Me and my friends have our own personal guild for bank space. I mean, I’m the only member of my own guild and I worked on it since launch to cultivate enough points to buy a bank. That took a long, long time on my own, lemme tell ya. So . . . if some puffed up guild leader takes offense when I switch to my guild to access my guild bank, oh well.
Anet wouldn’t pass up a chance to make a buck. It would be foolish to not put these on the cash shop someday. Wasted opportunity.
Ezd, that was the greatest post I’ve ever read, in my entire life. Kudos to you, as it explains everything pretty much spot on. If they don’t get it after reading that, they never will.
