No doors into Mad King's Realm anymore?

There are no doors in Queensdale, Kessix Hills, or Gendarran Fields. I repeat, there are no doors in Queensdale, Kessix Hills, or Gendarran Fields. At least not on my server. And everyone is confused about it, according to map chat on all three of those maps.

The only time I ever got mad enough to break something was Vice City, and the firetruck missions. I took the CD out of the drive and put it back in its case, then broke it over my knee. That was years ago, and I have yet to see anything in this game or any other compare to that amount of aggravation.

All I really want to do is be able to run around and kill things, farm metal and wood, and mats from enemies, until I have enough to make rare and exotic gear. Or at least sell trash for gold until I can afford to buy it. Right now, I suck. Bad.

Has Guild Wars 2 been worth your $60.00?

No. I was excited for the game during beta, but now I understand why we were only allowed to play for 2 days out of the month. This game is pointless. It looks pretty, I’ll give it that. But essentially the game never changes from the first map, leveling is pointless, crafting is a joke, rewards are nonexistent, and the developers don’t seem to have a freaking clue what they’re doing with the updates (example: Ranger, and the lie about an animation bug that never existed—an excuse to nerf them). My interest in the game started dwindling around level 60. Now I can barely be bothered to play the game at all. Why? Because Guild Wars 2 is like a bad girlfriend who never, ever puts out. So in the end, it’s all a waste of time. There is no satisfaction to be found!

Ugh, I Want To Like Crafting So Bad, But...

in Crafting

I’m wondering how much worse it gets, really. It takes 96 fine materials (venom sacs) for my thief to make 6 pieces of armor, two daggers, two pistols, a spear and a harpoon gun at green level. But now that I’m 300, and soon will be moving onto the 70-80 zones, I am wondering just how much worse it will get. So far, it has been every 15 levels, I have to grind that much out, since level 20. Then at level 35, 50, 65… so I would assume at 80, I will have to grind out yet another 96 venom sacs. But wait… there’s rare and exotic, still, which is another tier of mats? Let me guess… it will jump from 8 mats, to 16?

Crafting drop rates fixed yet?

in Crafting

Posted by: jwburks.9735

jwburks.9735

This is why I’ve been wondering what the use of crafting is. It isn’t to make money, obviously, when you can make more selling the mats because they’re so difficult to get. I’m starting to think vjek is on to something.

Is crafting just a waste of time?

in Crafting

Posted by: jwburks.9735

jwburks.9735

No, and the reason I have not is because my Chef has been stuck at level 200 for a very long time, probably because things like chili peppers and vanilla beans are so difficult to come by. I have two bank tabs filled with cooking mats that say they can be used to discover new recipes, but I am missing exactly 1 ingredient for all of them. Just one more thing to love about crafting in this game -sarcasm-.

So making money isn’t the purpose of crafting, and it’s probably easier to just buy gear. I am still wondering what the point of it all is? I wonder if ANET even knows.

Is crafting just a waste of time?

in Crafting

jwburks.9735

Everyone seems hung up on the money-making thing. That was never even something I was concerned about. I make money selling trash, and doing events. And if anyone ever expected to make money from crafting, the only way to do that is with things that get depleted. i.e., food and potions. Am I wrong? Because you only hit 80 once, and once you have your 80 gear, what else could you possibly need?

We heard . . . we listened . . . we ignored.

Is crafting just a waste of time?

in Crafting

Posted by: jwburks.9735

jwburks.9735

I never expected to make money from it. From all the research I did about Guild Wars 2 before launch, I was under the impression that there were several ways put in place to get your endgame gear: Dungeons, paying for it (with gold, not real money) from the cultural armor and weapon vendors, or crafting. This was practically shouted from every corner, before launch. That’s all I ever heard about.

Now set aside all this money-making stuff for a second… if my choices are dungeons, paying gold, or making it myself, clearly I would rather make it myself, just because, hey, why else have crafting in the game, at all?

BUT

As it stands now, just getting the mats to level the stupid crafting disciplines has basically sucked the fun right out of the game for me. I am about to walk away from Guild Wars 2, simply because I am sick to death of killing the same garbage over and over again, for hours and hours and hours, putting up with bots in the same area, no matter where I go, and putting up with the barely existing drop rate. It has been this way every 15 levels, for every character. Yet ANET seems determined to slow progress down, for whatever reason. And here I was thinking GW2 was different from all the other MMOs that did this. At least those other MMOs have a reason to do this: it’s called monthly subscriptions, and keeping the players paying for as long as possible. So… what excuse does ANET have?

And as for the XP? I can do something more fun than crafting for that, such as… WvW, or complete another map—even a low-level map. Why punish myself with this? What is the freaking point of crafting?

I would always have the staff, but I initially started off with a scepter/horn. Now I am trying scepter/dagger. I see a lot of Necromancers running around with two daggers, but they have every single minion in the game running around with them. I am only level 15, for now, so I can’t do that yet.

Crafting-For What it's worth

in Crafting

jwburks.9735

All I ever really wanted to do, was to make my own end-game gear, so I can get on with playing the game… which for me, would be WvWvW. But… I am starting to question the point. The unpleasantness of grinding for mats, and all the work I have put into crafting disciplines does not seem to be actually worth it. I am not even taking into consideration, that some people take up crafting to make money. I was never in it for the money. But I am seriously starting to think that crafting is 100% a pointless waste of time, since I would eventually get all my gear from drops, rather than bang my head against a brick wall, killing things for materials, which have a next to nonexistent drop rate, because for whatever reason, ANET is determined to make this a living nightmare.

Is crafting just a waste of time?

jwburks.9735

I’ve been playing this game since day 1, and before that, since the first BWE. I have 8 characters. :-/ I think I had to do this, simply because of how my brain works… or doesn’t work. I did it to determine which profession I really wanted to play, just by exploring them all. And I have 5 of them up near to Orr, around level 65. Every one of them has 2 crafting disciplines, around level 300. So I’m nearing the final stages. I think. I am not sure. It seems there is one more tier of gear, but still 2 more after that—rare and exotic. I don’t know how that works, because I’ve never gotten that far.

But all I can say is that I would have 8 80s already, if it weren’t for crafting. I would say about 40% of my time has been devoted to leveling, and 60% gathering materials. That’s just a guess, really. But I do know that the majority of my time has been spent gathering fine ingredients, and it’s about as fun as biting my fingernails down to the bone, and then dipping my fingertips into lemon juice. What I’m trying to figure out is… why is ANET so determined to slow our progress down? You can buy your gear, get it from dungeons, or even drops, right? So why the adamant determination to make this so unpleasant? It’s not as though the gear looks amazing. Well, I do like the rare light armor set (not so much the exotic). The leather armor doesn’t look that great. So what’s the deal, here? It’s not about keeping us from looking so good, and gear can be gotten many ways. What’s the point?

You’ll have to bear with me, because I’m a bit stupid today. For instance, I made tea in a microwave, put sugar in it, and the tea bags, and then forgot that I already put it in the microwave. Needless to say, there was a bit of fire. And I would say this game has rotted my brains away, just a little bit. So… I have the Well of Suffering. I like it, but what other skills are must-have? Should I just kick minions out? If not, which ones should I bring? I really hate that minions do not heal after a fight. :-/

On Botting and What We’re Doing About It

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jwburks.9735

jwburks.9735

I saw my very first bot today. This player’s character was just standing there, swinging their dagger, but the enemy they were attacking was about 50 feet away. Then they would just vanish and reappear right next to the enemy, sometimes facing the opposite direction, and yet somehow they could continue swinging at the empty air, and manage to kill it. I was out in Mount Maelstrom, trying to kill spiders for venom sacs. This is where I encountered a bot, doing exactly the same thing. /report

But the sad part? This is probably someone’s hacked account. Banning them just means the hacker will use a different hacked account, and in the end, it was the player who got hacked who suffers for it.

I think at least educating people on how to prevent being hacked would have helped. Downloading Avast! antivirus (which is free) and Mozilla Firefox with the NoScript add-on (also free) has kept key-logger trojans from infecting me for about 5 years, now. I tried to post about this here during the BWE days, but the forum was either shut down as soon as the event was over, or it got deleted for some reason. And if it’s true that these hackers were using old password and e-mail combinations that were previously hacked, well… there’s not much they can do about that, I suppose. I change my password every week, now, it seems, just out of sheer paranoia. And the gold spammers are so out of control in this game, I think they even beat Warhammer Online, for once.

R.I.P. Drop Rate

in Crafting

Posted by: jwburks.9735

jwburks.9735

I’ve said this before, but I’ll go ahead and say it again. I’ve been leveling my crafting with my level, to keep up. Sure, it isn’t what most people do, but it’s logical. Make your own gear, as you go. But if you do this, you’ll be punished for it. Severely. At first you only need 18 fine ingredients to make 6 pieces of armor, but every time you hit the (master) level of that tier, it jumps to 48 instead of 18. Add to that what you need for your weapons (8 ingredients per weapon, some classes get off light if they use mostly two-handed weapons, but still…). It takes 96 for my thief. After going through this a few times, I wanted to shoot myself in the face and die, and never see Guild Wars 2 again. The mindless killing things over and over again to gather these things up takes many, many hours. It’s the worst part of the game, by far, and it makes me sick to my stomach.

The thief’s downed abilities were nerfed into the ground due to complaining, but I think they went a bit overboard on the cooldown. Basically my thief is always dead before he ever gets a chance to use it. But even still, my thief gets to bleed enemies to death, and I usually manage to survive. Usually. The elementalist, however… as I said, just please give me a (5) Kill Self ability so I can spare myself the humiliation of being molested to death every time. Because there’s no hope. Once I’m down, it’s over. Maybe if they added burning to the (1), that would make a difference, but still the squishy factor pretty much dooms me.
