from what I remember, when asked about housing, the answer was “yes it’s something we’d like to do, and it’s on our to-do list, but it is low priority. Don’t get your hopes up”
….I don’t think it is ok to release an unfinished game.
I haven’t logged in for a LONG time..but I just had to ask…this game is technically “unfinished” is it not? They’re constantly evolving the game…I thought that was the entire point.
Constantly evolving and missing key features the game should have shipped with are two different things.
OK, so who defines “key features?”
FourthVariety, am I gambling if I use gems to purchase gold to buy loot bags off the TP for the chance to “win” lodestones/cores? and if not, how is that different then using gems to buy keys to open BLC for the chance to “win” a rare skin?
In Spvp, because of the way it works in this game, just buy 3 extra character slots, make 1 of each proffession, and you can play w/e is meta at the current time with full build/bis gear. in WvW, due to its large size, its more down to who can communicate and coordinate better.
yes
I just helped someone find a compass today as a matter of fact
Norns are awesome, but they are just a bunch of drunk vikings.
That may be so, but I’d like to see any of the wimpier races beat them in a fight.
that’s what golems are for, boohka. it doesn’t matter ow good a fighter you are if we can just bury you under wave after wave of explosive golems.
ANet has said no. and since it’s their game, it’s their decision.
Oh, fair enough. I have to admit, I get mad at her for blaming Eir. I was hoping at the end, she’d have a psychological insight moment & realize it’s herself she blames. She was too glib there, I thought. Still, it’s actually one my favorite Felicia Day performances. Caithe is the one that annoyed me – she just talks too much & with very little humor. However, in the last Sylvari story I did, I really liked her – she had some humor there.
If you haven’t yet, run citadel of flame story followed by crucible of eternity. CoE is where zoja has her epiphany moment, but it won’t make sense w/o running CoF first.
They didn’t know that the sylvari were sentient when they experimented upon Malomedies.
from wiki:
“The asura have offered peace. They did not realize that he… They thought he was simply another of the strange plants of the deep Maguuma, mimicking sentience,” Aife told them. “When they realized he was truly aware, they returned him to us.”
Yeah, you’re victim of market manipulation. Or if you’re one of those who do not believe it exist, the victim of a witch doctor. Or some other supernatural being cursing you.
I’ve tried to see this in a lighter manner, some bugger thinks I should save more for my Sunrise.
If it’s market manipulation, then you can just wait it out. If the price doesn’t fall, then its not market manipulation, just market forces at work.
if you do not introduce a new currency, then you have to reward people with some form of existing currency. if the new content is more efficient, then there will be people who complain why do x when n is more rewarding. if the new content is not as efficent, then the opposite is true.
thats gamers for ya, never satisfied
this is coming in the patch.
this question has been asked about every major patch. and, for Halloween patch, we actually don’t know when the patch will go live /endfacts
this probably has something to do with their server architecture, which is designed that way to minimize downtime.
I cant believe somebody is complaining about this lol.
can you name something that hasn’t been complained about/questioned?
Like I said, there’s a courtesy involved. They changed the mechanic of how you can obtain bank and bag slots. If I had known that this change was going to be happening, such as mentioning this change when they talk about upcoming patches, I would have had the foresight to wait until those ‘items’ would go on sale, as they always seem to eventually do.
Otherwise, it’s just nice to see that a sale is upcoming and not immediately upon us. That has been a fairly common occurrence in most games and in stores. In this instance, I would’ve been one who would have been able to save some money. It’s not going to catch everyone, but it gives a little bit larger of a window to have more people catch the sale.
you seem to be missing the point. what about those people who buy something just before the sale is announced?
/sigh..
Thats why it is called PvP Servers as the title says.
lol love to see people freaking out where it got nothing to do with their servers
Its for those people who love that kinda Pvp.That’s the point, people that love that kind of PvP for the challenge already have WvW.
/sigh another one who never seem to understand the difference between Open World Pvp and WvW. Scroll up please or just read the cut & paste explanation below from my previous post…
To those who dont understand the difference between WvW & Open World Pvp.
Lemme explain…
WvW is an Instance Pvp. Similar to sPvP only on a Huge Scale.
Anyone could pop out (out of combat) and hop back to the Main World anytime.
And live happily ever after.
Open World Pvp is in the Main World itself where Pvp (Player vs Player) could happen at any place, at any time. And there is no way you could pop out to another World.
So either Fight or Run Run RUN!!!
Just an example of an Open World Pvp.Still cant see the picture? Play those mmos with Pvp Servers and you will see the difference.
um, they can jump to another map. its called wvw or heart of the mists. or, for that matter, just wp away.
Wait wait wait. I had no idea Anet is forcing me to sell my Dusk for 700 Gold. So if I were to put mine for sale at 400 Gold, will I be banned for not following the rules?
Man, this game just got so much more complicated.
Drop rates. Supply.
Learn to read.
demand. how does ANet control demand? because supply is only half equation for price.
here’s a little tip that I’ve found to be helpful in getting world completion: you don’t have to hold the point to get the credit. if you follow around an enemy zerg (thieves are best for this) you can run in as they’re capping to get POI’s and even vista’s
yeah … well … expansion slot before the 20% sale was 400 gems for 5g60. now it’s 320 gems for 7g 50. A 20% sale leading to a 50% price increase for the same goods. I call bullkitten!
You’re calling “bullkitten” because you’re saying that the price of a moving target is….well….moving?
You realize that the cost of gems in real money has not changed one single bit, so the 20% off “sale” they’ve got going on is 20% off of a stationary target….the real money to gems market…..NOT the moving target of gold to gems.
The 50% price increase you’re quoting is due to the fact that a TON of players just went in and converted their gold to gems instead of buying gems with real money. You can’t blame Anet for that. They would much rather you buy gems with real money anyway. Blame the players.
Anet went in, and took an “item” that pretty much anyone and everyone needs at least one more of, and arbitrarily lowered its price by 20%. If that wasn’t designed to inflate the player controlled gold to gem conversion rate what is?
I get that players are ultimately responsible for the rise, but it was in response to a move made by Anet. Move and counter move.
so the point of this sale was to boost sales? isn’t that the point of every sale ever?
mesket, your complaint seems to be that legendaries are out of reach. You must have missed the podcast where they first revealed legendaries, because in it, they stated that they expected only 5% of thee playerbase to own a legendary. so it is perfectly reasonable to say that they should be rare, because that is what ANET expected them to be.
think about this: the gold<→gem exchange is driven by the players. they announce this sale. the demand for gems goes up→people exchange their gold for gems→the exchange rate from gold to gems goes up. simple economics explains why this happened.
slash the price. think about it, if it becomes so cheap that everyone has one, then the prestige value goes away, and the only people who want to command would use them
for new weapons (which the devs have said that they want to do) I think battleaxes are the most likely weapons to come out.
did you know that if you right click on a dungeon token, you get a greyed out “deposit collectible”?
what I think OP? I think you are asking for ffIX II. you want to get back the memories of your first MMO, which may never happen. and no matter how you set up the combat system, w/o a variety of enemies, it will still come into a repetition in what you do.
Yea WvWers will mass exodus when ESO hits. WvW cannot be fixed because it was designed to be a casual gametype. It was not meant to be competitive, but that’s what the player base wants. We want competitive, mass PvP.
Just curious, but why are so many people talking about ESO? The ES combat system is rather dull… is there some real info on ESO that people are taking to heart? I mean we should all be leary of new MMOs that generally do not live up to the expectations. Lets take Kurt Schilling and the State of Rhode Island.
ESO has promised mass open world PVP on a single megaserver. I predict that truly large scale fights will have problems simply becaue the architecture isn’t there.
what color is lava? if it’s considered red, then there is no problem.
welcome to internet forums! seriously though, forums are almost always full of complaints, because people who have a problem are much more likely to post on the forums then those who like it just the way it is.
you get a skill point. you can use them to purchase stuff from the mystic forge vendor
to counterpoint your thread, I would like to mention this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/About-elitism-in-MMOs/first#content
it purpose is to highlight this thread: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/7864486403?page=1
if you expect a certain level of experience, you prevent those who do not have that experience for gaining that experience. or, in other words, if you refuse to teach, how can they learn?
That comment wasn’t sarcastic. This thread is evidence of why they put precursors in their mail, because it makes you think about it. That’s how marketing works.
or, in other words, you are now advertising for the gold sellers.
josh, thank you for answering questions.
I do have one question though. will we still be able to use our normal skills in the new dungeons? because I suck at jumping puzzles but as a engineer, that doesn’t matter as much (jump shot
)
are you not listening? Anet makes money off gems bought with gold, because they were purchased with gems at some point. so they have no reason not to have the price be what the playerbase thinks is acceptable. that includes the people who by gold with gems.

Yes, if you write out you own detailed explanation on how you perceive the market mechanics you, too, will be wasting your time on speculation and conspiracy theories. That is what this thread is for. Arenanet will never disclose details of their game’s market behavior and how their controls affect either it, or corporate revenue.
All we can do is ask pointed questions and have a little fun with it. Instead of taking attacks to blind faith in an assumed free market personally, write out why you think there is a gem exchange, how it really functions, and how it affects game play.
Arenanet only makes money when people buy gems with real money. The game’s gold economy is nothing more than a toy for players made by the dev’s. The gem exchange is probably a research project studying how to control the money supply and effects on gem RMT. I remember reading that the gem exchange was installed to discourage illegal RMT but wonder if it actually was all that effective.
If you post here again, I want to see you reasoning.
the issue with your conspiracy theories is that we were actually told, by a dev, how the gem-gold exchange works. basically, when you purchase either gold or gems, they go into a pool available for exchange. presumably, the sizes of the stockpiles determines the price. therefore, when you purchase gems for gold, areanet isn’t loosing money, because those gems were originally purchased for real money by someone previously, who exchanged his gems for gold.
fallen, you’re incorrect, you don’t need healing to create any of those interesting fights, and they make them more boring because you have no defence if the tank is bad.
there are already healing enemies, you have to interrupt them and poison them.
Healers just mean that one person is playing whack a mole, my support engi and ele are a great boon to the party, that’s enough.
People need to protect eachother already, not just the healer needs protecting. It’s way more dynamic.
needing to search for healers/tanks for groups outweighs any positive aspect of the trinity.
We can already be tanky and supporty, forcing people into TANK and HEAL is way worse than the current system. Anet have not exhausted the potential of the current system for encounter design, not by a long shot.
What you speak of is homogenized and indistinct. I doubt you even played GW1, so i won’t bother. By the way, the enemies that heal, they heal themselves. Your elementalist and engineer only throw out boons and heals on big cooldowns in a homogeneous, blanket fashion. There’s no depth in that and it certainly doesn’t create the full paradigm set that i have in mind. I really don’t think you even understand what i’m saying, much less have any real evidence to call what i have said incorrect. All this post sounds like is " I don’t like having to wait for a healer."
It’s not dynamic, it’s homogenized, indistinct, messy, and shallow. You may be able to focus on what you believe to be those roles, but they don’t stand out in a party where everyone is just spamming cooldowns and throwing out all kinds of buffs and healing. There’s very little depth in it compared to GW1 combat.
I could make the same claims about your arguments. you response to being questioned is “go play gw1, then you’ll understand”. that’s not evidence or proof that having a healer would be better for gw_2_. could you not randomly throw out boons and such in gw1? could you just spam cds in gw1? so why are you claiming the spamming of cds=lack of depth?
to allow people to purchase gold with gems, and vuce versa?
I’ve played a variety of class, and they generally seem to be of similar survivability. some classes require more active defense then others
EDIT:
I think if this game claims to have removed the trinity, they should just completely remove it and make every class just as viable. Otherwise, please add monks back in. It’s only fair. Balancing combat around dying and down state has to go.
you do realize that having classes will cause people to claim differing viability, even if it doesn’t exist (my belief about gw2, BTW)

Thanks to all of you guys confirming that I’m not gone crazy recently.
Let’s pray Anet will hear our despair and return(again) to the original system…
They heard our complaints and concerns about the trial in December and their decision to use that culling system now. I’m thinking they don’t care.
or maybe it’s an overall improvement, despite the issues some are having with it??
57 mobs is not enough to come to any sort of conclusion. I killed at least that yesterday in Orr for the daily and got nothing but whatever the stupid grey worthless skulls are and a couple of bags. Sometimes I can kill hundreds before getting a green and more than that to get a rare.
Then there are days when I log on and the first thing I kill gives me a rare or exotic. I know the frustration but it is how the game works. I am not sure what you are asking for in this thread op. Do you want to be able to tell the game what you want and you have a better chance at finding it. Some items are rare and it can take a while to find them. Did you just start a level 1 char and run out and kill 57 things and did not get anything good, then come to the forums to let us know?
The only exotic I have ever received is from completing a map as a map reward.
I had killed more than 57. I killed 57 until I received a “blue” drop. I then began again at 1. My intent, as I said previously, was to count and make note of every drop for a thread in this forum which was trying to gather data about drop rates and perceived “permanent DR” on some players.
I have taken brand new characters out into new areas and noted the drops
I have taken old characters to new places to explore and noted the drops.
I have taken characters who have maps completed and taken them to places they have been many times and noted the drops, followed by taking them to places they had not been in more than a month and noted the drops.I am either affected by a DR that is permanent, or my account is flagged to receive junk only, or I have bad luck across all characters on my account, or this is the way the game is designed and if the last is the case, then I would like to know about it so I can better assess where I put my gaming money in future.
did you come to the forums specifically about the loot problems? if so, you may just be unlucky. consider that there were over 3 million copies sold. even if not everyone who got it played it, there is still plenty of room for statistically anomalous behavior
John im pretty sure he already used his item and cannot sell in game. He wants an option to transfer his used commander title to another character
I know, it was a joke because that is the cost of buying a new commander tome. I should stop making jokes
If that makes you feel better, I got you, and I laughed
But still in my mind, the Comander Tome should be bought with Honor Badges, and not gold. Someone that has never been to WvW can just buy one and play Commander without a clue of what he’s doing.
someone could just do the jp in wvw, get the badges required, and get the commander icon without having a clue of what he’s doing.
you are trying to measure the unmeasurable. the 100 gold cost is only there to keep absolute FUN’s from being commanders
I like the new one better…
as do I. which proves an important point, that aesthetics are subjective, and not everyone’s going to like the same things
black lion trading post.
that is all
I have to ask: was darksteel stuff around in GW1? if not, then that may be an explanation as to why platinum is no longer used as currency.
(will fill out in the morning when i’m not tired)
If I remember correctly:
she will be back on the 28th
the winters-day merchant is the one thats leaving 28th
OP, to answer your question: areanet has stated that they want you to be out having fun, not preparing to have fun.
How long does it take to organize a raid?
and is that time Having fun, or preparing to have fun?
Well I guess that speculation also goes out of the window.
Also you can look up several posts of mine from a month or so ago, I’m highly against playing the TP.
Anet can be my guest and check my account, I wouldn’t make this thread if I had something to hideBut I also don’t owe anyone answers, just the joy of reading what you have to say ^_~
no, you don’t, but I’m still highly curious as to how you got the mystic coins necessary for those legendaries. could you please divulge your secret, if you did not buy them off the TP?
really?
it’s what, around 231 or so mystic coins per legendary?
so at about 50 a month(approximation) you could have around 200 coins?
that’s enough for 1 legendary not three.
where’d you get the extra mystic coins?
All that your suggestion would do is cause people to start buying up items before the patch to either profit despite ANET’s price fixing, or to directly profit from the price fixing.
In Eve Online it is very common for mineral prices to start rising before big updates in anticipation.
True, but that’s a gamble! There is no gamble to the first person/s that logs on to find a new super lvl 400 recipe and 180,000 stock at 1-5c
could you perhaps provide a specific example of what you are talking about? because from where I sit, it is still a risk that the recipe they are buying mats for is going to be that “super” recipe.
well, here are a few tips:
red circles=bad. avoid standing in them.
big attacks are usually by a special effect those are usually good to avoid.
