In previous post I criticized the OP and forgot to give my feedback about HoT.
I actually like it. After its launch I played a lot in the new maps and leveled masteries quite quickly. I’m already at 161, I’ve never did Cof/spider farm and I don’t feel that I had to grind. But I enjoyed the maps a lot.
I like that the hero points are actually challenging for solo player, but I’ve never had any problem with getting people to help. That’s what MMOs are about.
I even like precursor collections. Sure they’re expensive, but that could be expected and I’ll rather finish legendary one small step at the time than just grinding for gold. It brought a sense of progression for me. There is one serious rng grind with new legendaries, mainly with ley line sparks that made me take a break from HoT maps after finishing HOPE but overall I find it great.
Story seemed a little too short. I expected more. The cutscenes were great though. I have to say that I liked Zhaitan’s story more, because it felt to be on much bigger scale. Story of HoT is a commando mission.
Raids are great.
Elite specs are great but I’m still disappointed about lack of new scrapper mechanics and just bad gyro skills.
I don’t play pvp and wvw much, I liked the new borderands map and pvp league actually motivated me to play pvp but I get it that there are many flaws and wvw needs rework to incentivize people to play it.
Reading the forums feels like I’m in the minority that actually enjoys HoT content. I don’t know if it’s also the reality. I’m definitely curious how the next expansion will be different from this one and if again so many vocal people will complain about it. I personally am optimistic.

I don’t understand these kinds of posts. What are they good for? This isn’t facebook or 9gag, you can fish for likes there because such posts have only that purpose. Are you looking for an approval, or to see that you’re not alone? If you really hate it, ask for a refund, don’t play it, find something else that you will love.
And so what that you played GW1? This is a different game, it doesn’t entitle you to anything and doesn’t make you any better.
One thing is when you don’t like something and bring a constructive criticism. Another is just meaningless posts like this.

Not bad idea OP, but exchanging toolbelt skills for gyro belt is not so good, because many skills are taken because of their toolbelt skill. This would narrow the options for the player and many player would rather play classic engi instead of scrapper.

They won’t. At least not in this patch. They said they’re going to be nerfing the Scrapper, not buffing it.

How about the movement “fix” would be adding the same effect around the player? Let’s say purgy effect would stay around the gyro but also the same effect with much smaller aoe would be around player after gyro summon?

Oh yeah, movement issues should be fixed asap.
To be honest if gyros would pulse boons after activation (something like facets), I’d actually consider using them. Seriously. That could bring tons of group support if done right.

The thing is, it has an evade. Skills like this with an evade shouldn’t be doing that much damage.
Yes, but then they make the whole skill evade, not give us three uncontrollable leap evades with pauses between them. It’s too common in pvp to be stunned/rooted after the first leap.

Rather than increasing cd on hammer, I’d love them to fix its skill aftercasts and give evade for full rocket charge like it should have. It’s so frustrating to be suddenly rooted/feared after the one leap. And already the hammer has such high cooldowns that player needs to use kits or AA a lot of time. I’d appreciate if they incentivize us to use also other skills than kits and this is the right opposite.

If they are going to nerf sneak gyro so much how about improving its movement so it doesn’t get stuck on terrain changes and responds much faster to our movement.
Just for the sake of discussion, let’s I’ll try to behave insanely optimistic and say that this preview was focused on balance and because of that they didn’t show bugfixes and polish of gyros

It just seems to me that we are returning back to the “engi being nerfed” routine. I’m sure that there will be much more changes but what can we say when they don’t address the biggest issues?
Also 4 changes for detailed preview? Grouch, please come back, that few hour stream before HoT release was detailed, not this…
At least we have the buzzing gyros in Maguuma… that are unable to follow properly… and gimmicky…

Although most of us get the joke and such from ‘’oh yeah and those awesome useful gyros! Everybody uses them!’’ and that you dont mean that, but
I would still be careful with such jokes, otherwise they are really gonna believe or believe even more that we find them useful :p.Seeing they said:

Gyros are arguably the least working elite spec utilities.
They have too many issues, among them, movement, survival and some of them dont even work at all (bugged).
First of all I don’t think that they are stupid, as you can see they needed to mention some specific feature of elite specs for each class at start. That being said, our elite mechanic is not much usable in pve that they mentioned, so I guess the gyros were the next choice.
Second of all, I lost hope for any major elite spec overhaul or gyros overhaul. They would mention it if they were working on it.

On more “hopeful” note: “Secondarily, we’ll be looking at slightly changing the theme of a couple of professions so that they’ll have a strong place in each game type.” I just hope that this means some new functionality for the Function Gyro.

There’s no place in an MMO for this sort of dross.
As a mini game that you can choose to do or not, that would be fine.
But to lock masteries behind these so called “adventures” is wrong.

@Xyonon I don’t think it’s a good decision, to make one of the hardest hitting classes (condi engi) run green fields, you lose a lot of short range dps. I see your point though.
I don’t think there is even a good AI. And combined with pathing issues and slow speed, I think that the leash would be the best idea. But if it can’t be done, I’d rather have a mobile aoe that sticks to me than what we have now. (And I would love to use gyros, anything else than kits, if they wouldn’t be so stupid and slow)

As for a condi build, in raids, abandoning scrapper is abandoning utility for 10% power damage.
Power damage? Come on. Condi build is not focused on power dmg.
Medic gyro is the best heal skill for raids in every encounter, especially due the super speed and condi engi being the ones to go to the green fields. Having super speed for everyone makes this task easier, lets the team reencounter faster, more dps, more effective.
You’re kidding, right? Medic gyro is a solid skill, however it’s still worse than Healing Turret that provides much better heal, 2 water fields and blast + knockdown cc. Super speed does not give you more dps, you do not attack faster. Also if someone is let’s say knocked away, he won’t get super speed because he’s too far, so your reencounter argument is invalid.

IMO it depends on what mode you want to play. While in pvp/wvw hammer scrapper is amazing, in pve the other weapons and classic builds are more effective.

Some time ago, I created a Joker’s lookalike ingame. After hearing Arkham Origin’s soundtrack, I knew, what I had to do. The plot of Arkham Origins occurs during Christmas, so this theme fits the Wintersday theme perfectly. I put two songs together and I like the result pretty much – WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF JOKER SOMEHOW CAME TO TYRIA?

Why do you guys want to engies more passives? I seriously dont understand the logic here.
More? Engi is the only profession without sigils.
We don’t want passives, we want anything else than clunky AI. You just can’t fully rely on AI, because it’s stupid and unreliable. Besides, we want gyros and function gyro to be viable but they are mostly situational and gimmicky because of their AI.

Rifle dmg is much better when playing close than range, skills 3 and 5 do the most dmg then. The dmg of hammer isn’t that big and its skills have higher cooldowns. Higher cooldown – less dps
EDIT: I like the hammer more though because of its utility It was just a suggestion.

I still, honestly, think that Gyros should be a passive skill with an active effect. Equip a gyro, have a mini-bot, much like the Function Gyro already is, following and/or orbiting the Engi while providing a passive benefits that are lost while the skils are on cooldown similar in style to Glyphs. This is actually what I had envisioned when I first saw the HoT scrapper in the teaser, not this janky implementation that, overall, feels very patchwork and weak.
As it is, I don’t like Gyros. Bulwark Gyro was great until the bug was fixed meaning it explodes almost the same instant it’s summoned.

No, new character doesn’t need to unlock all the story. My herald character doesn’t have the personal story completed, I never did LS2 missions with him and you won’t lose any exp because you can switch back to personal story (in story journal) at any time.
BTW you don’t need any exp to unlock herald. You need Hero Points.

You unlock masteries after the first HoT mission which as I said takes 5 minutes if you want to rush through it. You can start this first mission anytime, just go to your story journal and start the HoT story.

This is just not true OP, you need only masteries for few HPs. You can still skip them and unlock your herald with the rest. You don’t need story for it at all. Maybe the first mission of HoT that can take 5 minutes if you rush through it.

I’ve noticed that the bugs start when you die during the final fight with Mordy.
My first instance was buggy as hell because I died a lot there.
Second instance was with another person, we wiped once and there were some bugs but less than the first time, yet we managed to finish it.
My third instance was completed with only one death at start (Eir killed me) and there were no bugs.
So until all bugs are fixed, I’d suggest you OP to be as careful as you can be in order to not die. If you managed to not die and still had bugs then my bad

Sorry but this is only an issue, until you know his special attack and then you just need to pay attention to see when he’s doing it.
First time I also had the same problem, but when I found out the tell for his black hole of death, it became easy and I was able to kill him from close. No need to cheese him

And I definitely don’t say that scrapper is worthless in pve, more like function gyro. I myself play as a scrapper and hammer and traits are just great. I hope that your build changes my opinion about gyros

You appear to confuse your subjective opinion, with actual objective fact. You made a broad negative statement, that opposes what skilled players have previously stated, and you repost to argue against anyone who finds them useful.
Gyros have pathing issues. They need to make the active gyro effects work off the engineer similarly to how the tool belt skills from bulwark and medic gryo do. That way when the gyro pathing gets wonky we don’t lose out. But some of them do in fact bring very much to the table. They need work, absolutely. If you cannot find use for them, that is on you, that have some handy effects in half the cases.
How do I oppose what skilled players stated? What do I repost? If they bring so much to the table, please, provide a viable pve build using gyros. I would like to see that.

As a pve player that has no more Evon Gnashblade flairs from the Cutthroat Politics, I’m excited to have function gyro above my shoulder. It has the same function – hovers over it and looks neat. And is useless. Yeah…
I love the hammer though, combined with the traits, I have so much survivability with my zerker, it’s just awesome.
And gyros? Who cares about gyros in pve, when you have much better non gimmicky skills at your disposal.
