Just add champ/world boss event, i.e Blood Witch of Kessex Hills

I’ve never seen people help to kill the Blood Witch. I don’t know if that’ll help enough.

My apologies, I should hv used underwater fractal as example of engaging underwater combat experience :p

The main idea is to fashion underwater combats after popular space flight sims, such as X Wing vs Tie Fighter. You will always have to be on the move, and as we have 360 degree freedom to move around, the battle sequence should allow more than one approach to take it down.

Borrowing fr ‘Return of Jedi’, let’s say Inquest has a huge underwater assault base that is guarded by a force field generated from a remote generator. The main objective is to deliver a bomb which is strong enough to disable the base. You will need as least 2 groups – 1 group is to escort and protect the bomb while the second group goes about disabling the force field generator. The event will fail when the bomb go off prematurely when it makes contact with the force field, or it gets destroyed by inquest patrolling outside the base. It may sound simple, but bare in mind the inquest can attack the bomb from below, so it will require tactics such as kiting/baiting. For remote generator, you can take it down by direct fighting against the defense system, or you can sneak in through a trap-filled vent. To make it appealing for PvE folks, you can have achievement for each of the approach you take.

Heck, we can even have an extended version of dolphin path for new mini-game activity

However, I will like to suggest adding underwater only skills to current skill set, to make the underwater combat more interesting as compare to current fighting with ‘limited’ choice of skills

Sure, they are real pain in the rear if you are caught off-guarded by those from opposing servers, but (power * snicker *) rangers are great for anti-siege raiding to take out bothersome trebs. It’s a double edged sword, but I’m always for points than individual kill tally.

Cult of Zhaitan

in Lore

Posted by: loneknight.8425

loneknight.8425

*" “The Cult of Zhaitan” was an [AARM] guild TS3 joke that eventually became part of Lapis N Lazuli’s Orr campaign history. Whenever someone logged on to TS3 chat, people who were part of the cult asked, “Excuse me, sir (or ma’am). Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior, Zhaitan?”

“People who joined the cult had their Ts3 chat names end in “of Zhaitan”. Their TS3 avatar would be a picture of a baby Mouth of Zhaitan with a RL celebrity’s face on its stomach. The celeb’s face has to have an open mouth.

“This inspired a real random RP event in which members of the cult had to convert other players to Zhaitan in-game (including the devs).”

I LOL’d hard at this. Care to share the background story of this cult RP? Any contribution from devs to the fan lore?

Carries mainly single handed non-edged weapons only mace/focus/warhorn/torch so as not to mess up the clockwork mecha accidentally; wears heavy armor because clockwork mecha may mess you up accidentally XD

The Role Of Elder Dragons

in Lore

Posted by: loneknight.8425

loneknight.8425

@Stephen – A+ for effort.

I share the same sentiment as Ishmael on the mysterious nature of magic, and its relationship with EDs. I don’t really agree on magic as sustenance for ED, like food to us. Based on Prof Gorr storyline in PS and Ogden’s journal in Scarlet’s drytop room, it seems to me that EDs serve as mechanism to control concentration of magic in Tyria. Perhaps I will use potato & salty soup as analogy (yes, as an avid gamer I do cook sometimes, try not to faint) to explain what I have interpreted the whole dragon & magic thing so far:

Imagine Tyria as a pot of soup, and salt is the magic that ED ‘consume’. According to old cooks’ tale, if the soup is too salty (aka magic level too kitten high), potato is added to lower the saltiness level. In actual fact, some salt in the soup are absorbed by potato via osmosis process, meaning there will be salt left in the soup, not all of them will be absorbed by potato (i.e magic locked in bloodstones).
(If EDs really depend on magic for sustenance, they could have clawed at each other during the last awakening, to fight for whatever magic that have left to satisfy their hunger.)
So now, if Tyria is now a pot of plain water (aka not much magic, when the potato is added back it, the salt absorbed will be slowly released into the water via osmosis process again. To draw parallel to EDs lore, the magic are never digested, they are being ‘stored’ inside ED all the time until they are being leaked back into Tyria.

Of course, being WvWer first & PvEer second, I could have missed some part in the lore that could explain the relationship between ED & magic, so apologies in advance for long wall of text :p

pirate sylvari

in Lore

Posted by: loneknight.8425

loneknight.8425

For me, the pirate sylvari are not neccessary evil. Depending on their motivation – some may join to satisfy their wanderlust, some may join just because they find high seas adventuring ‘romantic’ (I blame One Piece); some may be inspired by the pirates at Lion’s Arch, etc, they could have adopted the concept of ‘the ends justify the means’ for killing folks out of neceessity. I think the motivations are very similar to those of ‘good’ sylvari, therefore there shouldn’t be much conflict when their experiences are added to the dream.

How I choose to make sense of the whole corruption thing it is caused by what is currently being called ‘dragon energy’ (or ‘chaos energy’ according to inquest), not by the will of ED itself. Therefore, even ED is gone, the corruption still takes place as long as this energy is present.

According to Professor Gorr storyline in PS, the amount of dragon energy imbued in a minion is proportional to the amount of its power and intelligence. So I assume that it’s the energy that forms the will of the minions and guide them, so ED needs not to be physically involved in command and control.

The reference to her being the spirit or soul of the tree could be a metaphor. In eastern religions, such as Shintoism, a spirit (representation) of some natural force (e.g the moon) could manifest as a physical being, such as a fish. Physical harm to the avatar could have repercussions for the health of the thing it represents.

In asian folk beliefs, however, an avatar can manifest as non-physical beings, such as in form of apparitions (i.e banana tree spirit. I kid you not). Too bad our toons are not given the opportunity to have any physical contact with the avatar, so we have to leave it to anet writers to tell us how it is.

Posted by: loneknight.8425

loneknight.8425

You’re just looking for possible reasons why Phlunt just isn’t a nice guy now aren’t you? :P

Heh, you can put it that way XD

I went through the dialogues a few times, without skipping. With audio on, Phlunt sounds like a jaded has-been/attention kitten, who is envious of Taimi’s ability to attain achievement at young age, and he just want to deny Taimi her joy. A textbook kitten.

With audio off, however, just based on the words, I choose to interpret Phlunt as a typical by-the-book pencil pusher, who is trying his utmost to keep a young loose cannon under control. His decision to confiscate Taimi’s device is result of his general distrust of Taimi, properly due to her behavior/conduct or her young age.

I don’t know, maybe the tone of Phlunt’s VA is deliberate to make him the current walking target board :p

Which just goes to show that the idea’s been done. But unlike the Sons of Svanir, it’s kind of hard to picture a cult focused around immortality through undeath (the biggest shared theme of risen). Especially with the Elder Dragon dead now.

We can borrow the cult mentality from Flame Legion, who believes their ‘God’ Gaheron Baelfire can be resurrected, or depending on how the current cult leader spins it, that ED is just taking a nap before making a big comeback.

lol, this whole undead god cult thing sounds like something from Lovecraftian universe

loneknight.8425

It took me 10+ tries to finish story mode (yes, I suck big time), but just 3 tries to get all 3 achievements. Yes, I also faced choppy framerates and/or lag.

So, for those who are still struggling with this instance:
i) Prep some condition removal skill/trait, especially for crippling and any other conditions that will affect your mobility;

ii) Move around/strafe a lot, try to refrain from dodging as much as possible – get familiar with the chamber layout, so you will where to go/dodge without falling out of the chamber. Conserve your dodges for the ‘oh kitten! what to do!! what to do!!’ moments;

iii) Familiarize yourself with boss’s AOE fields – each has a distinct area shape and progressing pattern. Try, as much as possible, develop tactics for each of them without resorting to dodge. i.e. for circles ‘donut’ field, I will try to predict where the centre of the ‘donut’ is and move towards there;

iv) Time yourself for avoiding stomp attack – to my best knowledge, timing for stomping is dependent on your ping. For me, I mumbled “lerroy jenkins” twice after the floor glows before I jump/dodge;

v) I prioritize the mobs to be eliminated by the following order:
1) wolf/threshers;
2) (stationary) tendrils that range you with small poison circular fields – only 1 of them will spawn at a time (for solo);
3) healing pods (for challenge mode);
4) small tendrils (dangerous only at melee range);
5) dragon;

Good luck and don’t give up!
