his is wrong, this concept of meta, this “you have to have this set of roles”, this focus on node control literally being the worst thing you can do for an esport
your not supposed to choose what the esport portion of the? game is, you put in a framework for the community and they decide where it goes
what we have in GW2 is a mess of the same classes running the same builds and a pvp “trinity” system, something arenanet said would not happen
its got alot to do with how alot of classes lack independence in pvp
pvp based on class roles is lazy design, its no different from the trinity system arenanet constantly said they would do away with
the current way domination works is also very poorly done, nodes should be replaced with targetable points that you capture
there should not even be roamers/support/bunkers, the focus of the game should be based around reading your opponents skills and using your skills and utility appropriately
i would like to present the monkey analogy
http://i47.tinypic.com/sfjcq9.jpg
we need to avoid a situation like this, its horrifyingly already begun
if you ever get an enemy trapped in a corner, use fiery greatswords 3 skill in there face, you will spin around in circles constantly and deal around 10k damage + with 25 stacks of might
deals loads of damage but that’s about all its good for
theirs no way to sim damage in this game at the moment and anet refuses to let us install addons
this isnt just a spvp thing too, you should be able to theoretically test pve damage on those dummy’s too, the mist lobby is an excellent simulation environment
the game would benefit if there was an invincible dummy in LA too (but you can still see the damage it takes)
(edited by madatom.5218)
and while all this happens conjured weapons are still useless
the 40% recharge rate should be baseline, make the arcana tree do something with conjured weapons, anything at this rate
damage isn’t where elementalist is having issues but its more or less very undefined roles in weapon play style and casting mechanics that seem… not correct
first thing i have to point out is the attunements are not doing what they should be doing, anet originally described the attunements with very clear defined roles, you can clearly see now this is not the case
the next issue is weapons in there current state are very inflexible, a double dagger elementalist is forced to be in melee, a staff elementalist has an utter lack of melee abilities
people in the past have suggested let elementalists switch weapons but i disagree, we would benefit if we just turned 1 or 2 of the attunements into a melee or ranged attunement for daggers/staffs
alot of our abilities are too hard to aim especially with latency intolerant players, such as dragons tooth, flame grab or shatterstone, the damage however is quite fine at the moment
other classes are simply too simple to play compared, resulting in an unusual learning curve when starting an elementalist
now to deal with the elephant in the room since day 1 BWE
conjured weapons
i honestly cannot fathom why these utilities exist at the moment, completely utterly useless outside of a few very niche situations (such greatsword and an enemy trapped in a corner), breaks the flow of combat and wastes utility slots, conjured weapons need to be completely redesigned
my asura ele, using a mix of T1 cultural and sorrows embrace armor
my weapons used currently are the emberglow scepter and the claws of the desert
i plan on switching my chest with asura t3 when i get the cash for it
when you are done creating your character, there’s a good chance it will not look the same ingame.

press 2 to JASON!
switch to water attunement
im still not pleased with the state of elementalists
but kitten your whiny
because if they didn’t some players would never stop using them, even if its weaker then standard weapons
its ultimately alot easier to use conjured weapons and succeed, since you can deal optimal damage without switching attunements because your only managing 5 skills instead of 20
on the subject of fiery greatsword, if you get someone trapped in a corner and use fiery whirl in there face… well lets just say im still a little hard from doing that
how about fire axe only replaces the 1st 3 skills?
so you keep your offhand skills
so you think absolutely nothing is acceptable? why is it that when people dont get what they expected initially and then do get it months later they praise the man who did it
do you understand that if they fixed these absurd yet simple issues initially we would be receiving something for more interesting now?
when you hand in work 2 months over the due date is your boss/teacher thankful that they got it or upset they got it so late?
why do people insist on giving praise for doing whats expected?
there not even done too, i hope you understand a few fixes does not make any dev an amazing one
the issue with the current meta game is that encourages players to go full damage, full defence or full support
this is no better then a trinity system
if the meta and the pvp game in general is to be improved, the concept of dedicated bunker builds/dps builds/ect should be done away with, players should be brought for their skill and not the role/class they play and should be able to coordinate a mix of offense and defense with their partners
having dedicated builds with dedicated roles will always be an issue, because one class is always superior to the other at that chosen role and no amount of skill will overcome that
no man should be praised for doing what is expected
and conjured weapons are still useless
i agree, 3v3 and 2v2 gets rid of the terrible bunker/roamer/support meta
Anet specifically said they would do away with role based combat, certainly is like that to some degree in pve but spvp LIVES on it for some absurd reason
Right now ele is….
1)best roamer
2)best assaulter
3)best supporterWho can’t recognize this simply need to …l2p
what evidence do you have to show this?
why are you putting “>” in front of your text on these forums
I agree

there’s a large casual appeal for objective gamemodes(because kill or be killed is a very unforgiving environment) and should still exist, but not for the competitive scene
There’s is a large casual appeal for deathmatch game modes (because it takes less commuication / co-ordination, less strategy / tactics, is more simpistic, generally requires less thought and appeals to the kill MOAR type), whcih is fine, but not for a competitve scene, watching people hide behind pillars for 30 mins in WoW was dull as crap, hence it failed as an esport (one of the reasons).
you seem to be associating deathmatch will call of duty, where everything is stupid and ignoring the fact that this games core gameplay requires a substantial amount of thought and communication to combo properly, which is exactly why i have not PUGed a single thing since the BWEs, pve or pvp
this games pvp has fallen flat on its kitten because the competitive pvp scene is suffering the same issues that most pve games get, which is mandatory class combinations for success
the fact is in its current state its all about class composition and nothing is on the player, WoW arena did not die as an esport and still operates to this day (somehow) and that core gameplay is why it survives now, infact it was arenajunkies and many of the break off communities of it that initially hyped the game under the assumption that their esport would carry over well and replace WoW arena along with its many pve atrocities
so to say there’s no place for the deathmatch style arena is absurd
people are here because of it, instead they find this objective gamemode that encourages the things that many people came to guild wars to avoid
also complaining about pillars in pvp means your sub 1650 and makes your argument invalid
Sorry to tell you but the community overall thinks that warrior is a balanced profession. I can agree on the other 2 though.
warriors are sort of balanced, i think there far too easy to play
even hammer/mace is still a very simple build compared to most other classes
i dont understand the “whack-a-mole” analogy
you mean like force player models in quake?
yeah that’s alright, on the subject of stuff being hard to see i think the game actually needs brighter maps
5on5 ist best.
noneed brainless deathmatch where only full dps oder full tanky grps running arround. go to wow if u wanna have it.
capture the point with 5 are nice. Would like to see a capture the flag in the future too.
absolutely not, full dps builds and full defense builds would be pushed out of the meta game because balanced builds would dominate the environment, this puts a greater emphasis on the player instead of the class unlike what we have now, its too easy for truly horrible players to get carried by there team or class because of how simple there role may be in the current game format
we dont want it to be balanced on 1v1 games (obviously 1v1 duel balance would be nice but the competitive scene should not be there), most of us are unhappy with the current metagame, as well as the dependency on class roles
seriously guild wars 2 went backwards on that one, i cant speak for everyone but i would much rather a 2v2/3v3 format with a focus on balanced builds instead of 5v5 objective gamemodes with dedicated class roles
agreed on 2v2/3v3 and even 5v5 gamemodes without objectives, only fight
there’s a large casual appeal for objective gamemodes(because kill or be killed is a very unforgiving environment) and should still exist, but not for the competitive scene
OP is flat out wrong
elementalists still have heaps of mechanical issues
WvWvW is not to be used as evidence on actual game balance EVER for any class period

admittedly i do get bothered about this sometimes, it should be restricted to party members
its immensely frustrating when i drop a fiery greatsword and then the random who picks it up jumps in the water straight after
the biggest issue with haste is it doesn’t scale equally across all classes
elementalists for example
Element swapping is ONE way to play elementalists but NOT the only way…
these people still exist?
this is one of the utterly massive design flaws everyone complains about
the arcana tree has 1 mandatory trait and around 20 points within the tree is also mandatory for cool-down reduction if you want to play your class well
Everyone claiming that the profession is the problem when it comes to them not being able to compleate normal PvE content. That is, only world PvE and personal story. Are dead wrong.
Im running an elementalist thats soon lvl 30 and so far, no problems at all, i can take on everything in my level range without feeling underpowered or dying and if you cant, you are playing it wrong.
Although the elementalist seems to need some changes that will bring it up to speed with other professions. But rest assured we are not the only profession suffering from many issues and when it comes to just casually playing the game we are NOT underpowered.
- If you expected to have fun melting faces with fire (a laudable goal), you can’t.
by competitive content i mean people who are trying to do sPvP or dungeons
i anecdotal evidence by level 30 players demonstrates nothing on actual balance, and assuming our profession is only support/bunker is also wrong
im trying my hardest not to insult the 2 people above me but dam your just flat out silly
(edited by madatom.5218)
im gonna quote myself from another thread here
elementalist is going to be very underpowered for a very long time, developers in anything hate admitting they have done wrong and often will leave issues unchanged even if it comes to a cost for themselves
the fact is, arenanet said they wont do “kneejerk” fixes or changes, yet the elementalist bwe2 to bwe3 nerfs where exactly that, a panicked change in an attempt to bring the class inline with others despite still having so many issues
arenanet basically has to admit the bwe2 to bwe3 elementalist nerfs where kneejerk changes which is contradictory to what they said in one of there blog posts
if everything is better, and our ability to compete in any environment is extremely limited, then the class literally sucks
its not like vanilla wow where every ultra niche hybrid had a place in a raid due to the buffs and utility it brought, thats still some viability
every elementalist build outside bunker and staff support is simply not competitive
that sucks
both the treb and cannon have no place in spvp, you have fantastic core gameplay, why on earth would you tarnish it with a dam catapult
the biggest issue with it is it encourages dedicated class roles, something anet claims to be against
elementalist is going to be very underpowered for a very long time, developers in anything hate admitting they have done wrong and often will leave issues unchanged even if it comes to a cost for themselves
the fact is, arenanet said they wont do “kneejerk” fixes or changes, yet the elementalist bwe2 to bwe3 nerfs where exactly that, a panicked change in an attempt to bring the class inline with others despite still having so many issues like survivability, downed states and conjured weapons, the change should of never happened period and there is literally no actual proof outside of afew minor complaints that the original scepter dagger burst combo was remotely overpowered
there wasn’t even rerolls and the combo was still hard to pull off
risen would roll around in lowriders with wheel skeletons for wheels
the wheels skeletons would drop bags that give butter and chocolate too
are we including stuff from dungeons because i have a complete set of sorrows embrace light armor, one of the 1st on my server to get it
i seem to get alot of exotic medium armor from drops, gotten around 6 or 7 exotics
replace all the Risen Corrupters and grubs with wheel skeletons from dark souls, double the amount of risen who do the pulling attack
i believe this will have no effect on difficulty however of the zone however
i too have a 69% chance to make up strange numbers, 16% of people will disagree with me and another 4% will attempt to steal my pants
there isnt a reason to not implement dueling in heart of the mists, especially with so many build variations and no real way to test them aside from afew dummy’s and NPCs that dont reflect an actual player or the stats of one
a good example of what Vaerah said would be Jay Wilson and shut up pvp guy or peter molyneux and every fable game ever made
this irritatekittenreatly (<wut?)
instead of building your pvp character to be a solid mix of damage and defense with appropriate situational utility, we instead are encouraged to take on a particular role such as bunker or burst roamer or boon/condition support
this is not much better then the tank/healing/dps system every other mmo adopts, once again players are being rewarded because of the utility they bring as a class not the skills they bring as a player
how about we get rid of the sharks
its actually pretty good if you have abit of healing power, since its actually more healing then the glyph or signet on use
but it seems to scale really poorly in places where your stats are boosted (orbs in wvwvw) or dropped (low level zones) because of the strange way healing power works
guess what
all conjured weapons are useless
wvwvw against obviously undergeared players does not mean much
