As someone already mentioned in a post (don’t know who or which post exactly): It feels like all the gw1 pvp team member either left or got fired, because I see none of the phenomenal constructs that made gw1 pvp so good.
I’m not saying I want exact same thing, but if they managed to do something that good once I think they should at least came close to that ingenuity. But sadly it gets only worse. More spamming, less skills needed, higher damage, …
In Dota 2 if I die at least I know it’s my fault or my teams fault because either we didn’t have wards, noone helped me when they could (stun, slow) or I didn’t use my abilities/skills properly in order to escape.
In Gw2 I die and most of the times I can’t even analyze what happened. Mostly you die just because you get focused by more than one person and not because they crippled you or dazed you or even stun you. Mostly you die because they thrown everything they had at you, every skill/spell and autoattack till eternetiy.
I really hope ArenaNet wakes up and starts fixing the obvious problems.
- Variety of builds and team builds
- Team roles – you knew what your role way and in most cases it was not just to dps (damage)
- UW, FoW, …
- My assassins Ancient armor: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Assassin_Ancient_armor_f.jpg
I used to argue that down state was important and needed and all that. But now I’m just starting to think that it’s a bad excuse for letting people make stupid mistakes.
I can’t quite take ArenaNet’s statements seriously anymore. Somehow I really got the feeling that every single “old” developer either left ArenaNet or got replaced with a new one that doesn’t have any idea about the game. Just some examples – “We want to enable more builds for the elementalist.” “We don’t want grinding.” “The Queen is gonna say something spectacular.” “Every decision you make will have major influence on your character.” etc. pp.
This.

In GW1 you had to be intelligent to spread pressure with conditions, not just a button masher. For a matter of fact, it was one of the most important jobs of a good 8v8 ranger at stand (During balanced-ish build eras ofc). If you could keep poison on 3-4 people you were causing significant pressure which would cause the prot to start to overcast their RC and leave them open to easy shutdown. This would be followed by the ranger swapping to a short bow and going on a poison spread frenzy and the warriors pushing the midline hard. The mesmer would sit on the heal and a spike would go off soon and most likely result in a kill.
Of course, if that sort of intelligent play is overlooked… you get someone who is benefited by just sitting and auto attacking.
Couldn’t have said better myself. Spot on!
For me (and for alot of players from other MMOs or PvP games) guild wars 2 PvP feels like more like “press everything on cooldown”, rather than “wait for it… wait for it… opening! NOW!”. Pressing everything on cooldown should not be promoted that’s why I miss resource management like mana/energy. Even the dodges are used too much imo.
I’m all up for buffing AoE damage (you gotta look where you stand) but give it cast time (not instant) and/or longer cooldowns. Spamable AoE is just a joke. On a necro you basically just put down everything you can, wait for cooldown and do it again. Meanwhile you have to maybe to some kiting and fear someone of and that’s it. Playing necro in a nutshell.
Wouldn’t it feel much much better if you hide your marks behind weak enemies , stack them, then fear him over them and get the kitten out of there? You job is done. Or wait for that thief to jump your team mate and fear him off while your ele casts aoe under his feet? There’s so many examples how synergies worked well in gw1. They work extremely good in some MOBA games. Even if you’re not that good in MOBA you can do some pretty decent combos. And noone just spams skills because you don’t have mana and cooldowns are not just few seconds. And also if you want to kill someone with a combo and you miss your 1 skill or kitten up your part of the gank your enemy will just escape to safety, while in gw2 you forgot to cripple? Well no problem just throw everything at your enemy and hope he has no condi cleanse / heal.
To fix this the whole traits/skills stuff should be revised imo and that will not happen. So we’re just stuck with this casual button mashing PvP game. Feels like palying Street fighter or Mortal Combat when I was 8 years old. Just smash the keyboard, press that kick as fast as you can and hope for a win. Then your friend starts yelling at you “You can’t just press one key, that’s cheating!”.
Just my 2 copper.

Don’t like traits, hope they change them or remove them.
I’d rather have more weapons skills that you could swap and more utility skills.
I was a big supporter of downed state, but I’t getting more annoying from day to day. It promotes sloppy playing and doesn’t reward skillful play is pvp.
There would be way more strategy without downed state imo.
To be honest, I’d be happier with random mini. Maybe random rare mini.
Probably because people buy it more, otherwise it would not make sense to set price so high and noone would buy it.
People have more money now than months ago and there’s mor ways to get money so naturally the prices will rise.
No doubt in future updates we’ll probably get bits and pieces more of her and why she’s doing it.
Previous living story updates have ensured that I no longer care about future living story updates.
My thoughts exactly.
Enjoy? Repeating something over and over and over again? I don’t enjoy any. I just need the money and I do what’s currently most profitable about twice a day for 1h or maybe 2h.
I doubt anyone really enjoys farming/grinding.
I enjoy dungeons and fractas (fractals get boring quickly too). But even that is starting to get boring. No new permanent dungeons after one year since release. It’s a shame.
Guild wars 2: Play as you like… My kitten …
You obviously need to learn to play. You’re mindlesly dodging and spaming 3 all day long. On top of that you’re always standing in burning field he puts down and you don’t stun break his sword burst (which can be escaped either with skill 2 return or shadow step) which bleeds alot.
There’s alot of room to improve your play.
When I tried Neverwinter I kinda disliked the rooted thingy while attacking or casting but, I’m kinda missing it more and more because because there’s so hard to really punish someone for bad positioning in gw2 in my oppinion.
In GW2, people who stay back and don’t expose themselves too much then choose the correct moment to push a kill win. What you’re seeing is a L2P error. Let your bunker frontline until you can get someone exposed.
Why do you think people complain about AoE so much? It’s because they’re stupid and get AoEd. Against good players, AoE hits 1 target, sometimes 2. Aside from down contests. Hotjoin awarding glory to everyone on the point when it caps has a lot to answer for.
In my oppinion AOE damage should be increased but given a pulse effect, like damage over time if you stay in it. This way people would learn where to stand and where not. Now the staff ele for example is just sad in pvp. Or maybe we should get more pbAOE skills that require you to actually stay in combat to deal damage.
They want us to zerg. Obviously…
Lol you’re idea of GvG is wrong… Just sayin.
No it’s not.
2 team of 15-20 players bashing on each other and 1 of them winning for some reason.
Other players like to watch it too strangely so this is why it needs spectator.
Exactly… Wining for SOME reason. Nobody know why in the end.
Unfortunatelly gw2 pvp community is even more unfriendly than some MOBA games imo. At least in MOBA games people give you an advice or two before flaming you. Well, that’s from my experience. Hundred people hundred different stories probably….
Maybe bad matching of players skills has something to do with it also. You get matched with players far better than you so they expect you to play on their lvl. I don’t know.
I agree with most of what he said but not about balancing before PAX. Even if the current meta is bad, tweaking something right before the tournament is a no go since the teams just got used to this a bit.
Just to get this straight, This is just my oppinion and I’m not a gw1 pvp fanboy. I played reasonable amount of gw1 pvp (mostly random arenas, some heroes ascent, tried team arena and hero battles) so I got a bit used to it and as a casual PVPer I really liked it.
So. This is an example of random arena (RA – not the word “RANDOM”) which is kinda equal to solo queue now I guess. The fight start slowly, people stay back, they don’t want to get exposed too much, players are much more careful, skills are not just spammed (now shown in this example because it’s a disabling/shutdown build as far as I understand):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=8ry2friYbTI#t=30 @ 30seconds
This how gw2 pvp feels like. Everyone cluttered in one space, prepeare with some boons and run in and spam autoattack and rely on signets and so on. Maybe I should’ve used tournament pvp for the example but this particular fight is not far off from what I’ve experienced in solo queue before. Here’s the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=1K0FFiuUj2c#t=223 @ 3min 43seconds
I don’t know the exact solution but it certainly feels like gw2 pvp is a bit off. I like gw2 pvp but there’s something missing.
So far the best solution I’ve seen mentioned somewhere was to reduce dmg in pvp overall. This way there would be no kills just from spaming auto attack. We gotta be forced to use skills smart not just spam everything on cooldown.
The other thing that comes to mind is that some resource management (like energy) could prevent that. Spaming 1? Yes you can. 5 times, then you’re out of energy. So, you gonna to that or wait for a proper moment?
Well that’s all I can think of. Any other suggestions?
Everything in this game can be bought with money, why you want the last thing that involves some ppl work instead, to be the same?
Actually its one of my few little hopes that this game can become something ‘fun’ instead ‘pay and get anything u want’Because i have 16 fractal skins that have no use. I’d prefer giving them away for free than let them rot on my storage character
Salvage? If you could salvage them for ecto or mists essence/glob/crystal and maybe craft them in forge for reasonable large amounts of those I’d be happy with that. But they should be account bound no matter what.
Nuka Cola ascended gear should be salvagable and it should give ectos and mists essence/glob/crystals imo. At least that.
There IS a reason Nuka Cola. Something should stay special.
Happyfool I agree about account bound legendaries,.
First of all learn to read. I said no such thing about legendaries. I didn’t even mentioned that.
Legendary weapons should not be sellable ofcourse. Other non exotic non rare skins being account bound on the other hand is lame.
I’m all up for more of these kind of rewards, unique skins, that you can only get by doing certain “harder” things. This way we get at least some sense of accomplishment.
Oh yes sure let’s give everyone everything… Kids these days… sigh
To the poster above: You can make alts. Fractal weapons should stay as they are.
^ I can answer that: NONE! :/
Everyone should know by now anet is no good at presenting a story.
What? GW: Prophecies had a good story, albeit it made your character look like kind of a moron.
GW: Factions also had a pretty good story imo, and I even thought it was slightly better than GW: Prophecies.
Screw GW: Nightfall though, that story campaign was the worst. Obligatory link
Totally agree. Gw prophecies and factions had pretty good stories. I don’t know why they didn’t build more on those stories…. :/
Oh, here we go, more theorycrafting which leads nowhere.
Can’t even think of any intresting theories after this miserable update. Because anyway you’ll get some random anime villain with no motive, who will do evil stuff. Why? Becausezheeroohafanfic level plotwriters, that’s why. Eat some more boring events and drink pathetic dialogues.
How could you fail that amount of twists and exciting explanations for the things happening, Anet? How?
Exactcly. So many good and exciting theories since living story has begun but they didn’t get me excited even 1% of the excitement I get reading those theories.
Probably time to stop theorycrafting because none of it ever comes true. It’s just shallow story over and over again.
At least they could do is introduce some basic coordination to these event. Like for example: You have to capture 3 nodes on the map and hold them against waves of enemies while another team tries to destroy a boss in the middle which is invulnerable unless you hold the nodes.
We have enough commanders now in PvE maps and this should be perfectly doable. In the next updates do something slightly harder then rinse and repeat.
I’m totally dissapointed about lack of story in last updates. There’s so many good theories on lore and what’s coming next on forums and gw2guru and yet they fail to come even close. This update got me excited 1% of the excitement I get from reading on lore/story theories or watching woodenpotatoes videos on youtube.
It’s a shame…
Follow nibbler around and you will get dark matter
/salute
Totally brainless zergs autoattacking.
So… Not really fun for me I must admit…
I hope it’s something that connects us a bit to Cantha.
Come on! Who wouldn’t love to smell the salty, dry air of the jade sea and earthy, wet, yet fresh air of Echovald forest?
You can use any class. It has been done with all of them. Look it up on youtube.
My advice is go full on damage or condition damage, you don’t need survivability except maybe some vigor for more dodges or other dodge/endurance enchancing traits/skills.
It’s just trial & error. Rinse and repeat.
All this rage over ~50-100 achievement points and a mini.
There’s way too much entitlement in this thread for it to be taken seriously. It’s one boss, not the entire game, what it gives you isn’t even worth doing it for. It gives you a mini and some achievement points.
Finally an achievement that is worth the name achievement. Even if it’s bugged here and there.
Also in an MMO there will ALWAYS be parts of the game that simply are not for you. It’s trying to cater to so many different kinds of people that it would be crazy that you would be able to get everything.
I still remember SAB being told off for not being for everyone. (God save us all for the over 9000 amounts of rage threads when that comes back)
That said, I understand the camera issues, rift issues, and any other buggy things. Still if you can deal with that and still defeat her, I don’t see why there needs to be such fuss over it.
One boss is alienating people from the whole game, because they cant get 40 achievements points and a minipet. 1 boss. Hilarious.
Well said!
Boring, repeating, non challenging, non rewarding content is alienating alot of us too… Just FYI people.
“Hardcore players” are not players who grind the same content only for a reward. They don’t play, it’s just work to them.
The REAL Hardcore players are the ones who have fun playing the game!
No, hardcore players are the ones that will do trail and error (repeat stuff 1000 times) just to beat it at least once.
But imo they don’t like to farm/grind cause it’s boring. You got that part right.
You CAN please both. Just put at least one hardcore thingy in every update. This way we both will be happy.
BUT! There will always be complains. You can’t stop that. QQers will QQ.
Thief, p/d condition build. Probably tried alot over 50 times shortbow and my normal build then after about 10 or so tries I was able to beat her with p/d condition build.
To quote Ramin Shokrizade:
“You will see that the latest generation of casual gamers is actually somewhat crippled in their ability to master even simple games compared to the previous generation. I propose that this is because this generation is so over stimulated compared to previous generations that the reward mechanisms for games have to be stronger and more quickly delivered to capture the attention of contemporary audiences or otherwise they get bored/discouraged much more quickly.”
No nerf needed tbh. If you don’t like it or can’t beat it there’s no need. Just leave it alone. At least that’s what you guys tell us more (or less) hardcore players when we whine that content is too easy or too boring.
Thief is awesome for PvE once you realize it’s not all about stealth and backstabs.
I don’t like the “more guilds” and “representing” stuff. I like the whole idea of it.
Right now, guilds end up with decent number of players but alot of them are not representing ever and half of the guild is offfline with no knowledge for how long that peple haven’t played.
If we had “Last online” and “Last represented” we would know who our loyal people were and could just get rid of the players who never represent and players who don’t play gw2 on more. No point having them in guild and wasting slots.
And so far I haven’t heard of people that are being very active in multiple guilds.
Guilds right now in gw2 feel more like a group of people you’ve met once and you forget about them but just in case something goes wrong with your trusted group you have backup.
I’d rather have guild alliances which would expand possibility of people with same interests grouping together.
It is in these challenges afaik.
GW2 will just keep evolving to eventually become GW3 they say.
Unless they’re planning to go as far as revamping some core systems to fix or improve several issues with this game, I can’t see this.
Exactly.
Overall I liked it and I agree that some things need improvement as previous posters stated.
Here’s my post from earlier about what I like and I don’t (Feel free to comment there also): https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/jubilee/Finally-ArenaNet-has-done-it-Gauntlet-rocks/first#post2626399
“Real punishment – It’s how it should be. You make a mistake, you die. I only wish more boss fights were like that.”
More like that? You mean like every single champ?
And 0.5s later you and 20 other people are rezed by 200 people still alive and the fight is over in next 10 seconds… Unfortunatelly this is how it works.
Ooooh! Now I’m curious.
I think most of the titles are stupid because they can be done just with playing/doing aaaaaaalot of the same stuff over and over again. Killing Liadri IS actually an achivement, not just alot of time spent on it. So I still think it deserves a tittle. A good one.
Kite them a bit away from it then just dodge trough them, pickup it up and throw. The throw animation is really fast so you have time to run way or dodge again.
