You don’t need big player base. A few friend is enough and take the heroes with you.

It’s still a lot of fun just to do stuff and play around with all the skills.

I just found out the price for original guild wars 1 and factions and nightfall expansions is only 25EUR. I think this information is worth sharing for all the people that might wanna try it and experience the story before Guild Wars 2.

If you need someone to play with contact me in game (Maryln Scout), I still have it installed and will gladly help.

I don’t think I’m breaking any rules since I’m promoting the same game kinda. Or am I?

Now I miss gw1 even more.

Anyone still playing?

P.S.

We just have to accept nothing is comming close to gw1 ever. There’s a few reasons for it:

- The gaming industry is heading in totally different direction
- Gw1 just had the best skill system and PvP modes and unless someone replicates them we won’t be happy because we got used to it so much

The best we can hope is that some sub based game will have enough balls to pull it of and come close go what we had in gw1. I’m just looking for next best thing. I know gw1 isn’t going to be reborn, that’s what we expected from gw2. And I’m certainly not buying gw3 now.

Hey, yes fellow Slovenian.

Yes it’s quite sad what most of the casual players today are like, at least from a perspective of players who grew up with games. I just hope every now an then a decent game comes out. Right now I’m waiting for Dark souls 2 for PS3. That’ll keep me busy for a while. Then I’m going to some other mmo game with subscription model (won’t say which), to see if grass is greener on the other side.

I bought gw1 and all of the expansions. And gw1 made me preorder gw2 as soon at it was available. I didn’t even think about it because I had trust in ArenaNet. I haven’t been playing now since september I think. I just got fed up with it. Mostly with cash shop and how they treat PvP.

Now, they can release whatever they want. Either most awesome expansion, weapons from gw1, maps from gw1 or whatever.

I’m not playing it, I’m not buying it. No thanks.

I lost trust in ArenaNet completely. And I’m not the only one. And you know it ArenaNet.

Sadly this is the direction most of the new games are taking nowadays. This quote from guildwars2guru.com is a good summary of what’s happening.

To quote Ramin Shokrizade "You will see that the latest generation of casual gamers is actually somewhat crippled in their ability to master even simple games compared to the previous generation. I propose that this is because this generation is so over stimulated compared to previous generations that the reward mechanisms for games have to be stronger and more quickly delivered to capture the attention of contemporary audiences or otherwise they get bored/discouraged much more quickly. "

Just my $0.50:

Death should be punished, that’s why you don’t see reenactments of Lerooooooy Jeeeenkins in ESO. You don’t want to die. And about map being to big. It’s not. You can teleport on your keeps that are not under attack. And as I see it they’re just the right amount of distance apart from each other that if you die you can still quickly run back and try to help save your keep.

The other cool thing is (if I understand it correctly) that if someone takes over a keep in the middle thus making some other keep not connected to any of your other keeps you can’t just teleport to it. Making this kind of tactic rewardable but it has higher risks also.

The real reason we have a condi meta is due to client limitations. Condition damage calculation is very easy to calculate by the client because it does not have to take into consideration whether the condi tick was blocked or dodged or gained invulnerability from or avoided due to projectile speed vs. sideways movement. Furthermore, the client does not have to calculate whether it was a crit or a non-crit, and there is no RNG to the damage per tick. As a result of all this condi damage calculation is very reliable from the client’s end.

The condi meta was thought of from the game’s inception in order to counter the client’s limitations due to desync, lag and other issues.

You seem to have no idea how games and servers work.

On the other hand I still think that damage calculation is NOT a bottle neck for them but just a cheap excuse to ignore the community. That holds especially true for PvP, because there’s only max 20 people I guess and calculating damage 20 people in realtime…. Guild wars 1 did that without problems even for 24 people (Alliance battles) and there were more types of damage than two. So unless they did something horribly wrong with the servers software that is probably just a lie.

A 10 years old computer can calculate that stuff in realtime.

Excuse me idiot, it is you who has no idea how servers work. This is not a game like GW1. GW1 does not have to calculate position and range because a skill simply is unavailable if you are not in appropriate range of your target for a particular skill or if you dont have LoS. By contrast, in GW2 you can cast skills regardless of whether you are in range, the client has to then communicate with the server to calculate all of the following: was the target in range? was the target outside the projectile path by the time it reached him? was the target blocking or invulnerable or evading? Is the skill being used an unblockable skill or do you have an unblockable buff? Is the target behind blocking terrain by the time the skill finished casting? Was the skill interrupted before it finished casting? Is the target using a cheat or hack program? Is the caster using a cheat or hack program?

This is not a single player game where all these calculations can take place without sync considerations. Furthermore the age of your computer bears no significance in this matter.

what did I just read
you know there is cap on condi damage because of server stress, right?

The issue is not server load. The issue is desync and skills occasionally missing when they should not have or creating other anomalous results. Engineer’s magnet pull is a great example of desync. About 20~30% of the time magnet pull will go through all calculations and hit the target, but on the screen of the caster the target will appear to be where he was when he was hit by magnet, on the target’s screen the target will get pulled. For a brief time the position of the target represented on the caster’s screen is not the real position of the target, as a result any ground targetted abilities at the target’s location will miss. The moment the pulled target moves or takes some action he will reappear on the caster’s screen in his real position.

I guess your attitude reflects your age…

This is what Gw2 community has now become I guess. PEACE OUT! drops the mic

P.S.

You claimed that clients does calculations… Nuff said.

The real problem is what DIDN’T happen to this game. We were soooo close…

Anet bought the best spot on the strip for a restaurant, hired the best chefs, sent out fliers and bought TV adds announcing the grand opening… Then, when it came time to order the food to cook, because they didn’t want to spend the extra money (or maybe didn’t have time for it to arrive) , they bought hot pockets and pizza rolls.

The people showed up in droves to enjoy a night of fine dining and instead were served hot pockets. People loved the atmosphere, the staff were fantastic, so they were willing to come back with a promise of, ’We’ve got some fantastic ingredients on order, we can’t tell you what they are, but we promise it’ll be the best food you’ve ever tasted". The people kept showing up, eating the hot pockets week-after-week. Eventually, the ingredients that were promised arrived, and nobody liked them because they apparently had been sitting out in the sun for months and became spoiled. Anet realized their mistake, and told everyone MORE INGREDIENTS ARE ON THE WAY AND IT’s EVEN BETTER THAN PREVIOUS INGREDIENTS, WE JUST CAN’T TELL YOU WHAT!. Well, we’re still waiting for them to arrive, but we’ve become ill…

We all now have high cholesterol and food poisoning.

Moral of the story? The PvP population didn’t leave the game, we all died of food poisoning and heart attacks from high cholesterol.

That’s the best analogy I’ve read so far. This is exactly what happened.

Everything has to be slowed down. They want you in that game and they don’t want you to leave. Sub games all seem to have dailies. They also seem to have rep grind. They also seem to be focused on raids and dungeons which frankly are not why I play an MMO.

Seems like a nice description of gw2.
- Slowed down = gating (we’ve seen enough of it).
- Dailies – check,
- Reputation grind (achiv, glory, wvw rank) – check,
- Raids (dragons maybe) – check,
- Dungeons (almost every LS has one) – check.

How come no one brings up the Iteration blog post that Anet posted that spent the entire post talking about how they change things that don’t work, including completely throwing out entire systems if necessary. Seems like a curious omission to me.

What systems? PvP which needs a major rework is still in the game.

P.S.

I already moved to a different game (sub based) and I’m happier because there’s no cash shop and the last update was just awesome.

A gold cap would be a nice solution — it existed in GW1. It’s not so much a punishment as a limit to the amount of wealth you can accumulate in the system. It’s a safety net against loop holes, exploits, or other unforeseen consequences of game changes.

The number would be sufficiently high so if you hit the cap you are sufficiently wealthy to do whatever you want in the game. The limit exists to prevent a small number of players from doing something drastic in the economy. This something “drastic” might be something that is possible only after a future game change when the vast wealth could be applied in a devious way. This is really a theoretical discussion at this point, but you can imagine the possibilities.

A cap would be a last-line-of-defense in the game economy.

Yea and we would be back to using something else as a currency like ectos in gw1 which were used in trading rather than gold (platinum).

- Boost HP
— because berserker in PVP is not really viable unless you are running a one and only popular pvp build
— because with 10k or even 15k HP you get downed by a necro in less than 3 sec
— because you get backstabbed and one heart seeker and you’re down (yes I can dodge HS spam but I only have 2 dodges while thiefs have multiple HS uses)

OR

- tone down DMG a bit
- tone down conditions a bit

Ideas:
- What if conditions could not stack?
- What if burning could stack? => Suddenly maybe a burning condition guardian becomes at least viable?

On the other hand I’m not that annoyed by warrior stuns and stuff. Most of the animations are pretty obvious, ofcourse is up to you which ones will you dodge because they have many. Maybe just remove some stuns from some skills but don’t go too far to make them unviable again.

Just replace dumb traits that noone uses please or at least change them for PvP.

If PvP keeps going in this way (specializing classes for roles like Warriors = good at stun, Thief = good at burst, …) I’m gonna be extremely happy.

Do something about those cheesy build like S/D spam, necro condition and fear spam, …

Make more build viable.

My suggestions might look dumb, but that’s because I’m not pro at PvP I just wrote down my observations as a casual PvP player.

We’re seeing a ton of response from the PvPcommunity, we just need to get those last bits in place and then we’re really going to dive in and try to become a big part of eSports.

They’re almost there, apparently. Those pesky last bits!

As long as conditions stay single target they’re fine. They’re not fine when people spam AoE conditions without any thought.

Either nerf AoE conditions or make them “tick”. Ele AoE does dmg over time so should necro marks imo.

I do believe AoE number of targets should be uncapped not only max 5 but make the animations more obvious or make the damage “tick”. It’s our fault if my team is not smart enough to move out of AoE which is too obvious in Gw2 due to red rings.

Zerker PVE survivability issues

I always get amused when I join “no noobs, only experienced, only zerker” groups for CoF p1, just to later see them constantly getting downed on bosses due to the fact that they have no idea which attacks to dodge and when to dodge them. They don’t even position them selves so they wouldn’t be hit by that cone spray attack the boss does.

Come on guys. Putting full zerker gear on and go to CoF p1 doesn’t make you a good player. Knowing when and what to dodge is basic knowledge.

Imo bosses should hit even harder to punish bad players who think zerker gear will get carry them.

Hammer
We are taking damage away from the hammer skills that do CC, because we don’t think it is ok for skills to do both of these things. I see a lot of comparison with Greatsword damage, but the Greatsword has no interrupts and a single cripple on the Bladetrail. We left the skills that do not do hard control alone such as Fierce Blow and Hammer Shock, as we are ok with those skills hitting hard because they do not actually disable. We also left Backbreaker alone because it has a long cast time and a long cooldown. The standard hammer build is still going to be very strong after this change, but it will open up options for mace to make a comeback as the control weapon.

Thanks for the explanation, however, I find what you say at direct odds with the trait Merciless Hammer, which specifically boosts damage when an opponent is disabled. If you don’t want the hammer to do strong cc and damage, why have traits that directly link the two?

Exactly. Sometimes I feel like they have no idea what they’re doing.

I kinda hate this. I thought we would have some roles at least but everyone is now running in a zerg train spaming whatever you can on enemies or enemy zerg trains.

I wanna see this so badly, maybe this would even get me playing again. I’d just love if AoEs (not conditions) get buffed and have max tagets uncapped. It would be especially fun in WvW. It’s your own fault if you stand in AoE so either dodge or you and your whole zerg group gets melted by my AoE.

This could also be cool when trying to stop zerg at choke points. For example put static field down and lay some AoEs on top of it = zerg gone.

This would force people go spread around a bit maybe break in smaller groups or something.

As far as GW2 goes, it is fairly good value for money. Sadly, maybe because it has no sub, Anet don’t seem to be able to afford to make an expansion like a sub based MMO lile WoW which has just announce yet another expansion. Something that no doubt will help them to bring back a lot of old players and new alike.

As far as B2P, I think only Ever Quest Next is following that model. Every other new MMOs are either sub or f2p.

Steal interrupts 21s cd, spammable interrupts.. dazes and ridiculous damage plus blind field. ..etc its beyond ridiculous.

This is not true. However ths skill floor for playing decent got quite higher because of the S/D evade build. You can do pretty well just spaming FS/LS and dodging. But there is a difference between a really good thief and a really bad one for sure. This holds true for every class/build, but currently the differences are not so distinct for some builds.
