Ok first of all, this is a positive post, which lately come rarely from me. But here goes…
I’d like to thank personally and in the name of all players that are fans of gauntlet event to ArentNet to finally making a nice challenging content for more serious (maybe even hardcore?) players.
I enjoyed the fights so much, I even did most of the achivements, which happens rarely for me since I don’t like the living story updates so much till now.
The things I really liked:
- Real punishment – It’s how it should be. You make a mistake, you die. I only wish more boss fights were like that.
- Trial & error approach – You actually have to learn the attack patterns and behaviour and not just run around spaming attack and dodging half of the time.
- Clear sense of progression – Tiers and 4 bosses in each tier. Every boss gets harder (not totally necesary for each proffession maybe but very close).
- Diversity – Bosses have different mechanics that force you to change your playstyle. You end up learning more about your class this way and try out different combinations of skills, traits, stats, …
Things I did not like (nothing is perfect):
- Camera problem – whne you’re near the dome your camera gets obstructed by it and especially in Liadri fight can cause some problems until you get used to it eventually. But this doesn’t mean it should not be fixed.
- No waypoints for Gauntlet – It’s pretty kitten boring to run all the way up in case there’s noone around to ressurect you.
That pretty much sums up my experience with gauntlet arenas.
In the future I’d really like more of this kind of content, hard, unforgiving and challenging. All the people that grew with games like Contra, Mega Man, Super Mario, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden (xbox) will surely appreciate this kind of content.
I just want to raise some awereness that Guild Wars 2 has also fair amount of hardcore players and giving us at least something will be much appreciated.
For all the casual people complaining about it:
Suck it up or just don’t play it. Noone is forcing you to do it.* You tell us the same when we complain that content is not challenging and too easy. Fair enough?
For all the brave warriors stuck at Liadri
Keep calm and fight on!
Probably still run out.
The fight is fine except the camera issue and timer. I’d give it 10-20 more seconds.
It’s all about trial & error. You must repeat is so many times you get used to it. Just like riding a bike, playing a guitar, … And noone argues playing a guitar isn’t skillful.
I want more of the same content. More hard stuff please. At least one hardcore thingy per update. Anet is already catering too much to casual players. Let us who want more hard stuff have at least one thing per update. Please? Pretty please?
If it’s not fun for you DON’T PLAY IT!
I had a blast playing gauntlet.
Why not also have a group oriented gauntlet?
Now this is not a complaining response. I have not beat Liadri yet, have only tried 3 or 4 times, but I plan to continue til I beat her…I just want to know why Anet would go through all this trouble to cater to a VERY few when they could have made this just as challenging aimed at groups…
Because they rarely do anything for “those” people. I support this. More hardcore content plz, we have more than enough of casual content.
I totally agree. They should at least give us some title.
The more I play gw2 and read the forums the more I want to go back to gw1. I think the time to replay gw1 has come.
On topic: WE! WANT! CANTHA!
Once you realize thiefs are not all about stealths and backstabs you’ll love thief even more.
Don’t know if you want to PvE or PvP but, S/P + SB is amazing for PvE (dungeons, fractals, …) imo. Try it.
As someone already mentioned, use signet of malice, go dagger storm, after that use shortbow and spam cluster bombs (if you want more heal explode them, if you want blash finisher, then don’t) and auto attack. And ofc avoid getting targeted/hit.
Thief is not all about stealths and backstabs. I discovered this some time ago and since then thief is my favourite proffesion.
I think it’s not amusing. It’s just sad that people nowadays can’t think with their heads.
But yes, unfortunatelly I’ve been called names and whatnot, just because people are too danm dumb to step out of black powder OR knock me out of shadow refuge OR immobilize me OR dodge my heart seeker OR dodge unload OR spread if I’m using short bow OR …
People need to either create more alts and try classes out more or go to PvP and at least play a few matches with classes they’re having problems with. Mostly it’s a l2p issue as I see it.
I admit I was steam rolled a few times by a warrior using GS whirlwind on me. But hey, that’s my fault if I don’t have the reflexes to dodge.
People need to scuk it up and do a little research and l2p.
Just my 2 cooper.
Same. I used to like watching Springer as well.
kitten ! I is the same feeling yes. Just like watching Jerry Springer… O_ô
Just pick up meat until you have 3 stacks on you, then rush the hell out on Chomper. Strugar should be dead easy once Chomper is dead.
What he said.
When killing requires some team effort and coordination, it’ll be alright.
Been waiting a long time for that to happen… :/
Already found a guild.
My 2 cents:
- Full berserker groups are awesome.
- Most berserker warrior suck. They can’t even dodge simple attacks. For example CoF p1 boss – burning aoe and knock down. Sad but true. That’s the problem. Most zerkers just “follow the group/script” because "that’s how I’ve always done it’. They do not know or understand the core mechanics. And that is also why they fail when kittens are hitting the fan. A lack of knowledge added with no versatility and survivability is a useless player that has to be carried.
Exactly. Go full berserker if you know your way around the dungeon extremely well, otherwise go something with more vitality or toughness.
I always tell those players to not play full berserker if they don’t even know when to dodge…

Looking for a nice small to medium sized guild (20-40 active ppl). I’d like to do alot of dungeons and fractals. If you do any pvp even better.
I’m relaxed, laid back 27 years old dude.
Add me ingame: Chimamire Yuki

Melissa is awesome aiding us always..
I should not have a cap. Zergs should be easily punishable for their mistakes. Going into choke point blindly? BOOM! Static field, AOE, AOE, AOE, and go F yourself stupid zerg!
That’s what wvw should be like in my eyes.
I still find it hilarious that this is called GvG
Me too!
If I went and made a guild only for boys I would probably be marked as sexist.
But hey. Go ahead…
Btw, it’s SOOOOOO awesome that you’re married. I’m so happy for you! Really! Honestly! … O_ô
I used to be impressed by legendaries. I went and made my own sunrise and I was proud. But then came the selling of legendaries. Now I feel like it’s just a nice skin on my gs warrior…
If any AI dies it’s owner should be punished somehow (stun 1s for each spirit/minion OR slow owner for 2s OR reduced dmg OR something…). Problem solved! Go grab a bunch of spirits or minions now.
Bringing AI should come with additional responsibilities not only benefits.
Its like Mario..you saved the princess, game over..move to another game
… but our princess is in another castle.
Are you serious? One (max 2) guardian shoul be able to keep you safe from spiders if he knows what he’s doing and ofc if other party members know what they’re doing.
Just stand behind wall of deflection, inside sanctuary and inside spirit shield. If executed right this means like at least 80% less damage to your team.
Always kill boss at range in this path and don’t use AOEs so you don’t lure more spiders.
Simple as that…
That’s why it flawed. No dungeons should require so specific professions and builds, let alone requiring projectile reflect from guardian(s). And as some people said, there are a lot of spiders that don’t use projectiles and also do insane damage if your party stacks up in a reflect field.
And iirc, they changed the spiders’ AI and they now aggro you regardless of range if you attack the tree.
It’s only an example for guardian. Other classes have reflects also (thief, mesmer, ranger, …).
It’s doable with pretty much any random combination of classes but the easiest way is with the guardian.
What you’re saying about no dungeon should be built so you NEED specific proffesion, I agree with that. But I don’t agree with you on reflect stuff. Dungeons are way to easy and they always were too easy. There should be more mechanics like this and they should be more deadly. It’s not fun autoattacking. You should fail a few times to learn and think how to do it properly.
Honestly, I miss pre-nerf cof p1 where last boss was hard and you couldn’t just brute force the kitten out of it with dmg. And I miss Arah p4 before nerf.
In conclusion, imo every boss should be as hard as Lupicus in Arah. I don’t want more dungeons where the ultimate tactic is faceroll.
Guess this is what gw2 future will look like. Gem store armors and temporary content with more gem store items. :/
You just wait until they start charging gems for gameplay.
Honestly, they could go that way with an excuse that you can buy gems with gold. Somewhat similar to EVE online.
I agree. This time gating and content stretching via anti-farm (aka DR) is pretty dumb.
From my point of view, they do this to keep players playing the game, so you log in daily and do stuff instead of just log in on weekends and farm the hell out of it.
I’d like to play the game at my own pace. I don’t feel like playing gw2 lately but I would (if I could) farm the hell out of stuff on weekends. Sadly I can’t, because it’s either time gated and anti-farm kicks in or the drops are totally nerfed. Which leaves me only CoF p1 farm, which becomes boring pretty quickly.
Why can’t we play gw2 as we like? We were promised that aren’t we?
This aint gonna happen because gw2 caters to casuals. And 90% of them can’t dodge at the right time nor run away from damage, sadly.
I do with they made the whole game harder and more rewarding. Ah well. Will have to wait for some other game.
I really hope it’s per character. Otherwise I give up. Nerfing every possible way of getting money efficiently is just stupid. I want to do dungone 5 times because I have a good team . Don’t make me do other paths I don’t like.
“Play as you want” my kitten ArenaNet!
honestly, its quite the opposite.
If the game prevented ANYONE from using anything more/less than the basic amulet with equal stats spread out, and left customization in stats entirely to traits. You would have a game that still allowed players to be more damage oriented or tank oriented without slipping into the realm of frusteratingly hard to kill players or insta-kill type damage.
Totally agree.

I want to like the current shoutcasters, but I agree they’re kind of bad. I get no extra information from their talking. All I get is random groaning, high-pitched yells and overreactions to revives and spikes, which anyone can easily detect by looking at party frames.
What he said…
Just 2 days ago I had a team in SoloQQ where 3 of my teammates caped Mine together while there was no one there. All 3 of them just stood there until Mine was full cap. When Mine was full cap they together went to kill Svanir. While they were killing Svanir, the enemy started caping Mine again. When my superduper Teammates killed Svanir they all headed towards mid, ignoring the cap on Mine. Mid however was safe because I was defending it and no one was there.
So… yeah… How do you refrain yourself from throwing insults at people playing like that? I couldn’t understand how they could play so stupid!!!! I bet if I was playing with a group of pigeons they could make better calls.
Anyway yeah… That’s soloq for you, but still… It’s way better than hotjoin however. At least in Hot-join I don’t mind people playing just to farm glory (as stupid as I find it). But when people play like that in SoloQ it makes my blood boil…
Exactly!
I want henchmen or heroes back from gw1. They probably could be way better than most of the people.
Pop corns and Enjoy!
Didn’t read trough everything but in my oppinion (emphasis on oppinion!):
1. GW2 classes are already too similar
2. Trait system is not that good. We should have more skills to change – for example swapable skills on weapon sets.
I miss diversity like in moba games, where every match is different (gw1 was way better at this). Gw1 had way more skills which imo brought more diversity, but Gw2 went for less skills and traits system. But with so many useless traits and so many passive traits it does not bring the desired level of diversity.
But hey, I’m no PRO and this is just my oppinion.
P.S.
With that said. I’m probably going back to Dota 2. Sadly, I had high hopes for gw2.
(edited by matjazmuhic.1649)
We’ll get them soon…. In a year or so probably.
I believe Jonathan Sharp has mentioned this in the past, but I will repeat it in case you missed it. We are actually working on toning down skill particle effects.
Cool story (bro). So we can expect this in a year or so?
There is no skill involved in blocking attacks from stealth. You CAN’T see them! How does someone so skilled evade a stealth attack? Come one! Use your brains.
I play thief manily and I’m all up for this change!
If it’s obvious someone is blocking or will block because of aegis you should switch target, switch priorities or just wait.
On the other hand, aegis lasts too long right now.
I would LOVE to see them add more weapon skills so you could maybe choose a weapon and at least replace one or two skills. I. WOULD. LOVE. IT!
We need overall dmg reduce in pvp…
Dreamer I felt the same reading it yesterday. But hey. Still no response from Anet. Maybe we should ask Grouch to ask some of the questions on state of the game.
Tengu?! Who the kitten wants to play with large, adult, grown up chickens?
I only tried lol but I played dota and hon. The level of team play there is much higher than gw2 even in PUGs.
It’s truly sad. Btw, I went to play gw1 for half and hour today and I almost cried. I miss some things from gw1 soooo much.
I secretly hope Anet is doing something with PvP behind the scenes. But… I don’t know. Might loose all hope soon.
I went and played gw1 for just an hours. Almost cried. I want gw2 pvp to be more like gw1.
Best post I ever read on this forum. I agree. I recently made a post myself about gw2 lacking team builds and synergies. But I guess I’ll be overloooked just like this post was by Anet. :/
So this is a topic that is bugging me from the begining. Do you think team builds in PvP (they have no real role in PvE) are as important as they were in gw1? And what about team synergies? I feel like there’s no real team play in gw1. For example, combo fields are used mostly by person who created them or by mistake by other players, you rarely see chained coordinated use of cross profession skills, …
Do you think adding more game modes could bring out more builds and potentially better team builds and better teamplay? For example, deathmatch could bring more team builds which focues on destroying enemies fast, staying alive long, …
I just feel like there’s something missing here. OR! Or I just haven’t play enough or with good team. I’m only r20, so I might be mistaken.
Let the discussion begin!

Ritualist or paragon! And crystal desert already plz!
