If a player is unhappy with this game for whatever reason, its extremely unlikley that Anet is going to change the game just to suit the unhappy player, so the options are to keep playing the game and stay unhappy or find a better game , so the suggestion to play another game is the best option available.

Most of the MMOs Ive played which have a TP or something similar all have the same complaints about it , in that everything is too expensive and that means the economy is broken.
They think the TP is more like a shop where you can go and buy stuff at some record low price.
A TP must cater for both parties, both sellers and buyers and in any economy where you have sellers and buyers, its the seller who sets the price of what they want to sell.
Buyers are free to not buy items if they are too expensive, which will then cause sellers to either lower their prices or withdraw their goods from sale.
The system works and is self balancing.
More importantly there is nothing on the TP thats needed to play the game, so all purchases are totally discressionary.

Exchanging gold for gems or gems for gold does not create any new gold, it just shifts around existing gold and gems between players, so has no effect on inflation at all.

The TP is a pure supply / demand driven economy.
If prices are dropping its simply more supply / less demand which is exactly how its supposed to work.
Such a system will balance itself over time.
Its much better than hyperinflation which affects most MMOs.
Its totally unrealistic to expect that commodity prices will always go up.

Why is auto-loot gated behind masteries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

What the game really needs is a free gold mastery.
Once you master this you can simply stand around doing nothing and the amount of gold you have just slowly gets bigger all the time.
Fantastic.

Thanks.
I suspect that the chests Im referring too arnt the type that the wiki describes, as none of them have the save for later button on them.
Reward chests you can simply not open and they will stay there , but the chests that give a reward and XP you can open and see whats there and then choose to not take it now by hitting the save for later button.
A good example are the chests you get for completing the AB tarir event some of which have loot , but no save for later button, and others which do give loot + XP have the save for later button.
All very confusing.

Sorry for this really dumb question, but some of the events in HOT give as a reward for doing them a little chest which appears on the right hand side of the screen and if you open it and click accept you get some items and some XP.
There is also a small tick box called save for later.
If you click this box how long will the contents of the box be saved for?
Reason for asking is that Ive run out of enuf mastery points to train the next mastery level, but dont really want to waste the XP by hitting the accept box until Ive got enuf mastery points to use the XP.

Why is the endgame so "unrewarding"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

The big benefit of this game over games like WOW for example is that gears grinds are not essential to play the endgame content.
Its not essential to have ascended or legendaries in this game to play the end game content, so if you take a beak from the game , and then come back you arnt behind.
Gear grinds inevitably lead to forever increases in the level cap, which in turn leads to harder and harder content that many players will never be able to do.

If there was then the weight of all your armor and weapons and the weight of all the items in your backpack would have to be modelled as to how the physics of your characters movement was affected.
Ever wondered how you can run around the entire world forever without getting tired works?

A Word On This Targeting System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mauried.5608

One feature that would be useful and is found in other MMOs is target by name , where you can simply type target <name of monster> in the chat line and this would then target the named monster if its nearby.
This solves the problem of not being able to target something because you cant click on it as its obscured by other players, eg the Octovines in Tarir.

The other problem with the targeting system is that targets dont stay targeted while you are fighting them, and you are forever having to retarget them to continue doing any damage.

Why There Should Never Be Invuln in P. Story

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

The problem with the personal story is that its instanced, so if you log out and then log back in again you dont start where you were when you logged out, but back at the start of the instance which can be many fights away.
It would be better if the personal story had checkpoints in it so when you log out and then relog back in , you are at the same place where you logged out.

The problem in making people knowledgable is that they have to want to learn.
You cant force people to do the fights properly, especially if they wont listen and simply do what they think has to be done such as attacking the Octovine when its got 15 layers of slime on , or burning down the Octovine when the other gates arnt even close .
The problem with the fight is that once its starts its pretty chaotic and people dont have the time or inclination to stop and read whats in the chat window.
Anet could help a bit by putting up a really big Invulnerable sign on the Octovine when its got slime on.

Supply / demand economics is working exactly as you would expect so as the price rises, more people will start selling them.
The price of MC has only varied between around 78S and 90S over the last 5 months.
Theres no problem that needs fixing.

F2P games are limited in how fast new content can be created, as developing new content is the most time intensive and expensive activity.
WOW can do this because its a sub based game.
Also without increasing the level cap endlessly which just means a continuous gear grind , its tricky to add new content without some other form of incrementing reward system.
Ultimately though all MMOs have a finish point where people will have done everything, and then its time to move on.

Does the tarir event in AB need tweaking.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

This event has been failing frequently recently due to the players on the East burning down the Octovine extremely fast compared to the other gates, especially West and North which seem to be getting less and less players who actually know what to do, so that the entire event times out and fails.
As the East gate is the easiest to do, its where most players go, so the other gates dont get enuf, or if they do, the players dont know what to do.
Obvious examples are players attacking the octovine when its got slime protection on.
The obvious solution is to get players from East to come and help at the other gates, but they either dont understand the problem or dont want to help.
I dont know what the fix is to this , but some kind of balancing of the gate difficulty might help if it gets a more equal number of players on each gate.

Its pointless arguing things like <if the Devs dont do something about this , then players will leave .>

Grind exists in all MMOs, and is essential for making them work.

I have the same problem.
The most likely cause is a congested router somewhere between your ISP and where anets servers are, which basically means it’s not fixable.
Anet could minimise the impact by breaking the personal stories into smaller segments so that when you do get DC you don’t lose as much.
I can’t complete hearts and minds because all the fights are 1 instance, so when you ger DC,you have to do them all again.

'the market will fix itself'

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

Theres no such thing as a reasonable price for anything.
Reasonable is a totally subjective term and is differant for every player.
The market as it stands is working exactly as it should.
The price is simply being set by supply / demand economics, and over the 3 days over 3000 Mcs have been traded.
Thats roughly 10% of the total MCs available to buy.
If the price was unreasonable or too high then no one would be buying, and the sellers would have to drop their prices.
There is nothing that needs fixing, which is exactly what Anet is saying.
All MMOs over time suffer from inflation in the price of commodities that get bought and sold, simply because of the infinite resource supply, but this game is by far one of the better ones at controlling the inflation rate.

You dont have to buy anything off the TP.
Everything on the TP is being sold by other players, which means they obtained it by playing the game , so you can do it too.
The only benefit from buying stuff off the TP is that you get it faster, so the saving in time has to be paid for by paying more gold.
To quote and old saying from the goblins in WOW , “Time is money”, and thats absolutely true in MMOs.

Theres very little benefit in an MMO in having lots of gold at any one time .
What can you buy with it that everyone else would also want to buy at the same time?
So theres no reason why everyone would want to sell their MCs all at the same time or all at the same price, regardless of what the price was.
People only sell things when they need gold rite now.
If anything, the game needs far more gold sinks to suck gold out of the economy, but most players wont want this.
Supply / demand economics always works if left alone.

Indeed, there is no particular reason in this game simply to sell items that you dont need right now, unless you are really short of gold .
Ive got heaps of items , MCs included that I dont have a use for right now, but I dont need to sell them as Ive got enough gold to buy what I need right now.
Selling items simply to free up space only makes sense if you are constantly running out of space, and then you will sell the least valuable items first.
No one going to be dumping anything unless there is some major shift in the games economy that requires players to have lots of gold and not much of anything else.

What keeps most people playing an MMO is whether the game is fun to play or not.
The entire concept that a game has to be challenging or easy to play is meaningless.
Everyone in an MMO doesnt have the same skills and never will, so you cant force a one size fits all players into an MMO and expect it will be fun for everyone.

[Suggestion] Cash only shop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Increasing loot drops in the game wont increase the amount of gold in the game by much at all, as the TP relies on supply / demand economics to set the prices.
If more players are selling items on the TP to get gold, then the item prices will fall.
The only exceptions are rewards where you get gold directly such as the dailies, or when you sell your items to vendors who always give you the same price which isnt very much.
Id actually prefer that Anet fixed this so that vendors also apply supply demand economics to what they will buy, so if you try and sell them a lot of junk items, then you get zippo for them.

How about a compromise.
No unlocking of the WPs, but you can buy a gizmo in the gem store which marks on the maps where they are and their name.
This only works after you have a LV80 with 100% map completion.
You still have to run to them to unlock them for your alts.
A common problem I find with the dailies is that you have to do them all on a character that has 100% map completion as many people in a zone will indicate that there is an event going on near WP XXX, which is meaningless for a char who hasnt as yet been to that map.
