Why cant you get 100+ charged lodestones from playing the game?
Is there a hardware coded maximum limit per player?

A reasonable price is what people will pay for the item.
The TP seems pretty healthy to me as theres always plenty of stuff to buy and there seems to be plenty of turnover.
Whenever I do the Tarir invasion event in AB, you get loads of stuff from all the chests and I generally sell it all on the TP with no trouble finding buyers for most of it.
In MMOs the economic side of the game is not essential, unlike the real world, so its not necessary to buy anything to play the game.

If people are hoarding things which they could choose to sell, then you must ask why.
Some reasons could be that they dont see the need, ie the amount of gold they would get by selling their items is less than the effort needed in game to earn the same amount of gold.
Or , players value items over gold due to currency inflation which happens in all MMOs.
If its possible to make 100s of gold a day, then there would be little need to sell stuff unless it was simply cluttering up your bank.

Hoarding, if you want to call it that, takes up bank space, and getting more bank space costs lots of Gems, so hoarding stuff isnt free.
Also many people, myself included store things for which I dont know their current use, but obviously have a use, otherwise they wouldnt be sellable.
Players also hoard gold and gems because they dont take up any space, but no one seems to care.

I mean by this an actual GM character that appears in the game , and is differant to all the other classes.
Other MMOs Ive played have them, but Ive never seen one in this game yet.

The problem I have is the term challenging content .
What does this actually mean in objective terms.
Put some numbers on it in terms of how many players are needed, what type of gear must they have , how many mastery points must they have , how many hours of playing are needed etc, to do this challenging content.
Otherwise is just a meaningless term which tells people nothing.

Hoarding doesnt achieve anything in a game that has an infinite supply of everything.
All it does is temporarily remove some items from the economy, but it doesnt stop the supply of the same items to the economy by other players.
Most people who complain about the economy are players who want to buy something that they cant be bothered getting themselves, but find the prices are higher than what they think they should be , hence the economy is broken.
About the only gripe I have with the economy is the large number of items that cant be sold at all, because they are soul bound or account bound .
In any economy, anything that has value should be sellable, but most MMOs have these restrictions so there must be some reason for them.

Why do the loading screens take so long?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

Loading times are also affected by how many other players are standing near to where you player is , and also whether the game is downloading an update, but has got past the playable limit.
This is more noticeable on low data rate Internet connections than hi speed cable or fibre.

SSDs also make a huge differance, but are more noticeable on older PCs or Laptops which still have 5400 RPM hard drives.

Replayable personal story?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Id guess its because of the 3 orders of which you have to choose one.
You are clearly told that the choice is irrevocable and once you have joined an order, you cant then join another.
Making it replayable would negate this.

If story instances are balanced around the player doing most of the damage, then having additional players helping you in s story has to be banned.
You seem to have a problem with an NPC helping, but no problem with other players helping.
Whats the differance?

Worhtless NPCs

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

Theres really no differance in outcome to being helped by an NPC than being helped by another player.
The monsters that you are fighting dont get buffed if there are 2 players fighting them, so I cant see any problem in having NPCs who can actually help rather than being there just for show.
If the NPC is really useless, how about players being able to give NPCs better gear just on a temporary basis for the duration of the fights.

Using gated content to enter a new map isnt a sensible idea.
Taimis game is a pretty challenging story that many people with have trouble with and you have to do it to get to the new zone.
Would have made more sense to make the storyline harder at the end so people who cant manage Taimis game can still explore the new zone.
I got thru it , but sure as hell didnt like it and wont be doing it again on any of my other chars.
Games are supposed to be fun , not frustrating exercises of dieing over and over.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Has to be this way due to the fact that it takes many times longer to make new content than it takes players to go thru the content.
So there has to be some way of getting players to keep going thru the same content over and over.
If this wasnt the case players would simply run out of things to do.

Instanced content is a real pain for this problem.
Im having exactly the same issue with Hearts and Minds in HOT.
Whilst the problem isnt totally fixable, it could be alleviated by making each fight its own instance rather than having a long string of fights in the one instance.
That way if you get DC any progress up to that point is not lost, and you only have to do the fight again in the instance where the DC happened.

HOT is OK as long as there are enuf players in the zones to do the events.
But its getting harder to find enuf players, especially if you are in a non US based time zone.
Ideally, the events should auto scale to match the available players but they dont appear too.
Last night Australian time , I tried about 5 differant events and all failed due to lack of players.

Player Housing? anytime soon?

How many people in this game would be happy to have to pay a monthly rent for a house?
I suspect the answer is next to none which means the deserted cities problem comes back.
Player housing is a big project for the Game devs, so there has to be some kind of return for Arenanet for introducing it.
It would either have to be some kind of continuous rent , or a large capital cost in gems.

The Mystic Coins Inbalance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

The TP is not a forcible place of exchange.
Players who dont want particular items are not required to have to sell them on the TP.
Likewise there is nothing on the TP that cant be obtained from within the game.
To quote an old saying from the goblins in WOW, “Time is money”.
And nothing is more true than in an MMO.
The price of items for sale between players is directly related to the time taken to acquire the items.
The only minor criticism of GW2 is that there are many items in the game that have a non obvious function, and many players will choose to keep an item if they dont know its use, in case its needed later in the game.

ANet and the case of Insider Trading

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Really depends on what you are participating in.
MMOs dont have any rules which define how the game is to be played, hence there are no winners ever.
No one ever wins an MMO.
Also progress in MMOs is simply time based, ie whoever plays the most gets the most.
Its not fair in the sense that not everyone has the same amount of time available to play the game , but short of applying a quota of time that each player can play per day or week which no MMO is ever going to do, its as fair as you can make it.

All zones are pointless after you´re lvl 80

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

Just about every MMO becomes pointless once you reach the level cap, if all you are interested in is levelling and acquiring rewards ASAP.
You could play WOW where the level cap keeps increasing, but all this does is stalls off the boredom factor for a while.
Eventually you will have to leave and move on to something else, and as you cant take anything with you that you have acquired, its all lost.
There are lots of things to do in this game that dont require levelling and getting rewards.
Try doing all the jumping puzzles.
That will keep you consumed for months.
I simply dont understand why people are so obsessed with acquiring gold and loot.
None of it is real.

Gold selling out of hand again?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

The simplest fixes of all are the ones that always get ignored.
Charge for whispers.
Of course this wont happen because of the mega outrage from all the player base, who want gold sellers eliminated from the game , but in a way that doesnt affect them.

Is vertical measurement of distance possible.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

Currently in the game the distance to objects which are horizontall to the player are displayed in some unit which gives you an idea of how far away the object is.
But for objects which are vertical relative to the player all you get is above or below, but not how far.
No big deal for the original world where its mostly flat, but a bigger problem in the HOT zones where there is a significant vertical component to the maps, but in Bloodstone Fen where the map is more vertical than horizontal the lack of distance info in the vertical plane makes navigating to something really problematic.
Can a measurement unit be added so that instead of just above or below , you get a numeric value as well?

Gw2 player burnout, PvE gold Grind

Yes, why is it necessary to have gold.
Its not real, and theres nothing in the game thats essential to play the game that needs gold.
MMOs are supposed to be fun , so why do things in the game that arnt fun?
The only gold I have is whatever rewards I get from events and jumping puzzles, and I do them because they are fun.
No grinding needed at all.

Gold selling out of hand again?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mauried.5608

mauried.5608

Players who buy gold from gold sellers dont need whispers to tell them that gold can be bought.
All thats needed is to google GW2 gold and you will get pages of hits of gold selling sites.
All the ingame advertising is just to get existing gold buyers to switch companies.
Players will still buy gold if the ingame advertising stops.
The only way to stop gold selling is to break the economic model of gold sellers so they cant compete with Anets gem price.

Wont do much better unless using a service like Lowerping.
If your latency is well above this , then its a sign that the route to the US that your ISP uses is congested,or goes thru a lot of routers.
Tracert or pingplotter will show you where the lag is occurring.
Theres very little a game company can do about lag which is outside their control, simply because of the way MMOs work.

According to the Utube videos, Ive done everything thats needed, but the event doesnt end.
Im now stuck with either, theres something else thats got to be done of which I have no idea what, or I havnt done things in the right order.

mauried.5608

Ive been finding this problem numerous times going thru all the various storylines in the game, and basically you find an invulnerable mob you have to kill to progress the storyline.
Theres little to no information provided by the game to help you, and Ive been having to resort to Utube videos of previous players who have recorded what they did to get the storyline to progress.
This to me seems a bizarre way to design a game , and is really just a band aid fix to get you thru this part of the story so you can move on to the next part.
You have no idea of why you are doing what you are doing, other than this is whats needed to progress.
Surely a sensible solution would be to get some kind of ingame hint of what to do when trying to attack invulnerable mobs, rather than having to go outside the game to 3rd party web sites for hints.

Even withing the Linux community, you wont get any agreement as to which version of Linux is the most popular.
From a game makers perspective , they need some kind of commercial backing for any OS they develop a game for, so Windows works and IOS would also work, but Linux doesnt because theres no commercial backing for it.
Android works because its backed by Google and if there was a PC version of Android backed by Google then its more likley that a game manufacturer would look at it , but its unlikley as Android was never designed for X86 architecture CPUs.
As an example of the types of problems that a game manufacturer would have to overcome, I got myself a new laptop a couple of weeks ago and it came with Win10 on it, so I decided to put Ubuntu on it to see how well it would work.
Installed fine , but no sound and no wifi.
Turns out the the Intel soundcard and the broadcom wifi card have no Linux support, and no one can tell if / when they ever will.
A person buying a Linux game for such a PC would blame the game company as the game would be unplayable.
