Seems to be a problem with the Windows patch.
I had exactly the same problem and had to revert to the previous version of Windows which fixed the problem.
There are some suggestions that the Windows patch replaces the custom video driver with a generic windows driver which is slower.
This issue has been around for a long time, but seems to be getting worse.
When I res a player there is a small window that shows the progress of how far to go b4 the player is ressed.
But frequently, the window is simply not visible, so there is no way to tell how long it will take.
This is a pain if you are trying to res someone while at the same time some monster is attacking you , so your health is going down , but you have no idea how long there is to go b4 the player is ressed.
What kind of trinity do you mean?
Do you want a WOW style trinity where a dedicated healer class is needed and only the dedicated healer class can res people, in which case thats the worst possible outcome this game could ever have.
The last thing any MMO needs is dedicated roles where only a subset of the player base can perform a particular task, and to complete any content needs a combination of the defined roles.
I played WOW for years, and the worst part was constantly begging for healers before any raid or dungeon could even be attempted.
The real problem is the reward mentality, ie I wont do anything unless I get a reward for doing it.
Means that lots of useless stuff has to be provided as rewards , as the alternative is to give you nothing or give you some upmarket item, which then simply inflates the market for the better items and then they become worthless.
Automatic salvaging instantly destroys the market for all the various types of salvagers that you can buy.
It would be far better if players simply junked the reward mentality and actually played the game for fun of it , rather than the rewards.
Must be something really wrong with me , but I play MMOs to actually have fun, and NOT for rewards.
Seems for everyone else its if theres no reward I dont do anything.
Well, I havnt even got to the final room yet, after about 20 tries, so just gave it away as not fun.
Unfortunately , there are usually only 2 types of answers to threads like this .
One is " I did it so you can ."
And the other is its total terrible design.
Games are supposed to be fun, and this sure isnt , but it doesnt fuss me , as you can do what you like in an MMO , and ignore what you like .
I just move on and do something that is fun instead.
Does that then mean that a multiplayer game that has jumping puzzles and mini games in it , is not an MMO?
Surely the designers of new MMOs are trying to make their MMO as differant as possible from all the others, otherwise all thats happening is the churning out of more of the same.
ie go and kill this monster, then do it again, or go and kill another monster.
The M in MMO stands for multiplayer, but thats simply means that the game has more than 1 player in it.
MMOs dont specify in any way shape or form what the players in the game must do in order to be “playing the game.”
There is no requirement for interaction with other players in order to be “playing the game.”
In fact you could spend all your time at a trading post buying and selling stuff, and you still are “playing the game.”
What is the issue that needs fixing?
Salvaging has never been guaranteed to only return items that have value.
All the “useless sigils” can be sold to vendors.
For the Nebo terrace event to succeed, you must have players man the 3 trebuchet towers who know how to aim and fire them as these are the only way to provide enuf aoe to take the centaurs down fast enuf.
The centaurs will also climb the towers if the trebuchets are doing too much damage, so you must also have players available to help the players who are firing the trebuchets.
I have loads of fun, but I suspect that my idea of fun doesnt equal anyone elses.
The only event in the entire game that I do is the AB meta because its actually fun, and I use the loot to bankroll my TP trading activities which is lots of fun.
I dont give a stuff about stats , traits or anything else.
Did all that sort of mindless stuff when I played WOW, so dont want more of that here.
I sort of agree with the OP here.
I dont want to see a monthly sub, but players have to understand that theres no such thing as a free lunch.
Producing and running an MMO costs roughly the same regardless of whether its P2P or F2P, and so a F2P game has to recover its costs in some other way, but they have to be recovered.
eg its not reasonable to expect an expansion for a F2P game to cost the same as an expansion for a P2P game , as the revenue helps to make up for the loss of the monthly sub.
Theres already been threads here where ppl are expecting the next expansion to cost only $20 which is utterly unrealistic.
WOWs expansions cost on average $49.99, so any expansion for a F2P game will cost at least this much if not more.
People have got to be realistic.
I really wonder why people play online games.
I play games to have fun.
I play Engineer to have fun.
I coudnt give a stuff how much or how little dps Engineers have or how they compare to other classes, or how useless the skills are.
As long as playing the class provides entertainment , thats all that matters.
Remember you cant win an MMO.
I just wish they would fix them all.
Theres a heap of WPs in Tyria which are permanantly contested, even theres not a mob in sight and have been for at least the last year, maybe longer.
You can summarise this entire thread this way.
I want to make something.
I dont have the mats to make what I want so I go to the TP to buy them.
Horror of horrors, the prices on the TP are far higher than I think they should be , so the economy is broken and Anet should fix it.
The bit thats missing from this argument is why are the TP prices so high.
Well its because everyone else wants to do exactly what I want to do at the same time.
Supply / demand economics 101 seems to be lost on most ppl.
If you support game modes locking certain content , then you must support all game modes and not just the ones you like doing.
So for example how many people would support having to do every jumping puzzle in the game in order to get some hi level item?
Indeed.
In an MMO there is nothing that any player cant acquire if they want too, which is totally differant to a real world economy.
eg if in the real world I want a mobile phone, I have to buy it of someone else because I cant make one myself.
There is also no requirement that players who put stuff in their bank are somehow obliged to sell if the price on the TP passes some arbitrary value.
Many ppl including myself collect stuff and put it in the bank simply because they will be needed later in the game.
The price of them on the TP is irrelevant as to whether I sell them or not, simply because Id rather have the items than the gold.
If I sell my items, its quite likley that when I need them later, Ill have to buy them back which means I immediately take a 15% hit in their value when I sell them , and as most MMOs suffer from inflation, the price will be higher when I want to buy them back.
If someone has a gazillion mystic coins in their bank, they must have either got them from someone else, or got them from the various methods available to get them.
A process thats available to everyone.
A big problem with housing is what happens when a player with a house leaves the game.
I played Lotro which had housing, and there were complete communities full of empty houses with not a player in sight, simply because the players had left the game.
Unlike characters which can be kept forever if they dont play, because non logged in characters dont appear in the game , the houses of non logged in players do and they stay there forever.
To make housing viable from the perspective of the dev time required, houses MUST cost the player gold on a continuing basis, and most players will hate this.
Whats the purpose of having a bank in the game , if not to put stuff in it ?
Im unaware of any limits set by Anet of what you can put in your bank and in what quantities.
So the basic assertion here is that my need for mystic coins and hardened leather is greater than your need for the same items, so you should give them to me.
I dont know whether this is a feature of the event or a bug, but sometimes the turrets that are needed to remove the slime from the vine dont fire properly and do no damage or slime reduction at all.
I then just usually get another one and use it instead and the 2nd one usually works.
But this morning, every turret I used didnt work.
When they dont work, instead of a bright orange flash, all that happens is a very dim orange flash but no slime gets removed.
Been happening for many months , but is random and most of the time they do work properly.
Well, after 22 goes at this mindless event, Im giving up.
I cant even get past the first room with the jade constructs as they kill me in less than 5 seconds, and are now not possible to evade.
The majority of complaints about mystic coin prices are coming from ppl who havnt got any, and are looking for someone or something to blame.
Ppl who have got lots are fair game as they are classed as hoarders.
The entire purpose of having a bank in the game is to allow ppl to store stuff for later.
Doing this is not hoarding.
Im surprised that so far no one is complaining that legendary weapons on the TP are too high, and that Anet should fix this.
All MMOs have grind , and its essential to have it , simply because the time taken to create new content is many orders of magnitude greater than the time it takes for players to experiance the content, so repetition of the same content is essential.
Its a bit easier to do in a sub based game like WOW, where the level cap keeps getting increased, but a lot harder in a F2P fame with a fixed level cap.
Its odd because I can talk to the players who are trying to rez me , and they can talk to me as well.
Hitting F11 shows normal ping times.
Seems to be most common in the AB meta event , but has been around for quite some time.
Dead player on ground, but hitting F does nothing.
Has happened to me too and can see players trying to rez me, but health stays at zero.
When this happens its worthwhile trying another way of connecting to the Net.
For emergency purposes, I just use a mobile phone with wifi hotspot enabled.
This usually changes the ISP, and also changes the routing, so if the problem is still there its at Anets end, but if its fixed then the prob lies with your original ISP or one of their upstream providers.
Polls only work when the people being polled are randomly selected.
An online poll would achieve no useful result as the people responding to the poll wouldnt be random.
Online forums have the same problem in that they only attract posts from people who have some problem to complain about, but people who have no complains are not seen at all, thus skewing the results.
Anyone know what the minimum number of ppl that these events are designed for?
I mainly do the AB meta event, and this event scales up if there are lots of ppl in the lanes,
but it doesnt scale down if there are only a few, like 4 or less.
So that seems to imply that the event is designed for some minimum number of ppl before it can actually be done.
Likewise for the other 3 in VB, TD and DS.
Most world theories work, mainly the one of supply / demand.
Be aware of the 15% TP tax take when you sell anything.
You can also gamble in a sense, by trying to predict what might be needed in new expansions or new content , and buying up the items now for resale later.
Any clues as to why this stuff has rocketed in price recently.
On the TP theres currently buy orders for over 1.5 million mithril ore at around 61 c .
The Gemstore is a virtual shop.
Items in the gemstore take up no space at all, nor do they prevent the addition of new items, so even for items with low sale value, its better to leave them there, as someone will still buy them.
Most of the items in the Gemstore have no real use, and are just cosmetic, but ppl still buy them.
Theres currently 15K+ hardened leather for sale on the TP, so its not as if its hard to get.
Too many players treat the TP as a kind of shop where everything has got to be “reasonably priced”, whatever that means.
Far too much of the "I want everything now " mentality, but I dont want to pay for it.
If you want the price of thick leather or hardened leather on the TP to come down, then sell all yours and increase the supply.
I really wonder if ppl understand how the TP actually works.
This very same argument occured about 4 months ago regarding the mystic coin price.
If you do the AB Meta regularily and salvage all the greens and blues with an upmarket salvager, you get heaps of leather, and you can sell whats left to buy more leather.
Really depends on whether you need the gold for something else.
Its impossible to know what will happen to Mystic coin prices in the long term, but they have been fairly stable in price now for many months.
If you do sell them , dont do it all at once , but sell small numbers per week, preferably on the weekends, as that way you will get best value for them.
The real problem with this story is that it requires an ability to mash keyboard buttons really quickly, and / or the ability to move your mouse around really quickly.
If you cant do this, it doesnt matter what in game skills you have, as you wont win.
Not everyone has mega fantastic hand dexterity to keep up with the speed of the fight, especially older gamers like me who dont have full use of my fingers.
Indeed.
There seems to be a strange mindset in this game that everything has got to be hard or its not balanced.
The AB meta has 4 lanes each of which have differant levels of difficulty which allows players with differant levels of skill to participate, and more importantly the event takes place in the one location.
Theres no need to be able to navigate the 3D world which is needed for the other 3 metas.
Everyone in the game isnt a super uber player.
I sympathise with the OP.
The issue with this event which I eventually got thru is that its simply not fun.
I dont know about everyone else, but I play games for fun, not to bash my head against a brickwall for hours and wonder why it hurts.
There seems to be some kind of mentality in this game that all events are there to test your uberness, and that people who have difficulty should not complain.
Having someone else help you to do an event still does not make it fun.
This game has many events in it , especially in the personal stories that fall into the head banging exercise.
You will most likely get them out eventually if you perservere, but will wonder why did I bother.
How about an ultimate challenging mode for uber players.
When your character dies, the char is instantly deleted and you have to start all over from l1.
Wonder why noone will like this idea.
Making new content like dungeons is a extremely time intensive component of game design and only a small subset of the player base likes dungeons.
Its far more cost effective for the devs to create new content that everyone wants to do.
And players dont like gated content, ie you can only get some item by doing some extremely difficult type of content.
Thats why this game is differant to most.
If you like dungeons then play WOW.
I get a fair bit of hardened leather from salvaging all the greens and blues you get from the chests in the AB Meta event, usually 5 -6 pieces per event.
Using a silver fed salvager, so dont know if that affects the outcome and have 170% magic find.
AB Meta is actually better now as the ppl who do the event are actually interested in doing it for the event rather than just the loot , which was the case with multi map.
Now , the tarnished sage and traitor also get taken out at the end of the meta every time , when previously with MM no one cared.
Blizzard hasnt done it with WOW, and if it doesnt work there it wont work anywhere.
Its a similar argument for no ports to Linux.
You have to then support multiple platforms and need multiple sets of support people, multiple sets of coders , as well as multiple sets of updates .
Too much expense for too little return.
Its pretty much an impossible task to balance all the classes so that everyone is happy, as most players have a favourite class that they know needs buffing to make the game balanced.
How many ppl play all classes, but dont have a favourite?
Does anyone know if the teleport to friend item, works if the friend is in an instance?
This could be a fix to this problem if its not easily fixable otherwise.
The Video card is a low end card and adding more ram wont help.
As per previous poster, wind down everything in video options in GW2 to the lowest possible.
One of the problems with threads like this is the term “challenging content.”
What is it?
Ive asked this question many times and have yet to get a sensible answer.
The bottom line is that “challenging content” to some players is impossible content to others, as everyone in the game doesnt and never will have the same degree of skill.
Well, after spending over 2 1/2 hours of hell in this event and getting nowhere, especially the last room, I have to wonder what is the purpose of events like this.
Games are supposed to be fun, and thats the last word I would describe this event.
No more of this garbage for me.
