There’s nothing wrong with champs outside of zergs which are dumb in the first place.
With 1-5 players, they work well/as intended.
I don’t really understand this change at all; wouldn’t reducing the amount of gold given at the end of a dungeon while increasing the amount received from events do a better job?
Either way, it’s a real shame, I love doing the events while I’m out filling in my map.
everyone does the same job. There’s only 1 role in this game: DPS. Don’t even try to claim otherwise, you’re objectively wrong. Nobody brings a “tank” or a support character, nobody brings a “control” character (to control what? bosses are immune to all those effects 80% of the time), everyone just brings damage, damage, damage, damage, and damage, there’s your 5 slots.
These things do exist, just not in the traditional MMO sense and the only reason some people shun support characters is due to a loud but misinformed minority that thinks anything other than damage isn’t viable.

Namely the role-players, which they have been so good at doing since release. I know it will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for many of us.
I honestly can’t recall the last time I saw a roleplayer using town clothes, if ever.
I’m just glad I’ll finally be able to wear glasses with regular armor skins. That was all I ever wanted from the exclusive town clothing pieces.
I’m still a firm believer in the 10/20/0/25/15 trait spread simply because its versatility is far superior to an overly-focused mantra setup.
Developers communicate with the player base, people complain. Developers stop doing as such, people still complain.
There is no pleasing the average gamer.
Sure would be nice to have a source instead of just blindly believing uncited words on an internet forum.
Because we dont’ like mind-numbing pve? It’s ok the 1st go around, in fact, it’s very fun and exciting.. well worth the enjoyment… but to do it again? /wrists
So much subjectivity.
Honestly, if you’re that spiteful towards any sort of repetition, don’t play an ARPG ever again.
I don’t have an answer but I also haven’t been able to access it in a while.
So funny, all these people saying “don’t rush, explore the world, it’s beautiful!”, “one of the cool kids” etc. It’s all so stupid. HELLO some of us have been playing since release and have 100% map on multiple characters and don’t wish to take our sweet A. time exploring a world we’ve already seen 100 times. We want to know some tips for getting to 80 quicker because, for example doing Frozen Maw on an 80 gets you guaranteed Rares, whereas doing it on a level 20 doesn’t, so it’s pretty much pointless.
Oh yeah right, this is where you say I shouldn’t be playing for loot but should be playing for fun instead.
Ah yes, the mythical anti-hipster hipster, the irony to end all ironies.
As to what keeps me motivated? Nothing. Once you’ve made it to 80 you’ve experienced the game.
When I hear things like this, all I picture are those strange people that never watch a movie, read a book, etc. more than once.
How anyone could think the combat in guild wars 2 is good is beyond me. Give ESO a try and im sure everyone will like it.
Because it’s fun, engaging and aside from balance issues that are currently being worked on, well-designed.
Stop following a zerg some time and see for yourself.
you will be staring down the barrel of ascended crafting and the pursuit of legendaries and wonder if it’s even worth the effort.
There is so, so much more to this game than either of those two which are entirely unessential.
Would pay real money for this. Make it happen, Anet!
Number one isn’t even coming out any time soon, two is published by the same company as Anet making it a non-competitor and three will be the next Old Republic.
Why even make this thread with all that in mind?
I wish there were more shorter styles for the ladies, heh. Trade you?
I’ve seen most every area dozens of times, but the game is so vast that I rarely remember any of it by the time I revisit somewhere I’ve been.
I do feel the leveling slows down a bit too much about halfway through to the cap. I find exploration much more satisfying when I have more variety in build tweaking that comes with being 80.
Good riddance I say, less whining about misuderstood gameplay mechanics that Anet will never change.
Removing the trinity was the first step in the right direction, ArenaNet just lacked the imagination to make it happen.
Very well said.
PVE is stale not because GW2 lacks a trinity, but because the trinity was removed and nothing meaningful was added to compensate.
More like the merit is subjective and the average gamer is too set in their ways to try new things out.
also this game is ez and you can faceroll any dungeon so need for trinity.
I have no idea why people continue to perpetuate this myth. They are either A. fortunate enough to run in an idealistic group setting 24/7 or B. lying to compensate.
I lean towards the latter.
Why would anyone ever miss being pigeon-holed into a one-dimensional role, spending ages looking for a tank or healer or playing either of those two simply out of necessity?
Trinity as a gameplay mechanic should have died in the 90’s along with most archaic MMO design.
GW2 does have control, support and damage. The reason that some of the player-base rejects the game’s approach to them is because those roles are tied neither to professions nor to gear. Apparently, this is too much of a hurdle for people used to thinking in terms of how roles are handled in other games — where the trinity roles are tied both to character class/profession and to gear type.
Exactly what it comes down to. I’ve played every class and they all have weaknesses where the others excel. If that isn’t support at a basic level, I don’t know what is.
It does not reduce Illusionary Riposte. Illusionary leap isn’t that important in PvE, not that you require it to be spammed.
Celerity reduces Riposte if you don’t have your swords traited so pretty sure it’ll be fixed in the upcoming patch along with a lot of the other Mesmer bugs.
Illusionary leap isn’t that important in PvE, not that you require it to be spammed.
It is if you don’t have blink and ranged weaponry equipped.
It’s so clear for me not to spend a single point into illusions tbh
Maybe to you, but I’m sure the people you play with would appreciate you not being on the floor and/or stuck far behind which tends to happen more often if you’re set up purely for damage and not much else.
(edited by medohgeuh.4650)
It’s lack of hype because everyone has glanced at it, seen the aesthetic and recoiled faster than a thief with a shortbow spamming 3.
Everyone? I think it looks pretty good.
Rather it’ll be a good game, though, I can’t say, but it’s probably the only online game I’m interested in trying this year.
Only two of those can really be considered competitors (ESO, Wildstar), the rest are single player games with different audiences.
Speaking of the 10/20/0/25/15 spread, this is what I use for (mostly) PvE: [link]
One great thing about this setup is that you can swap traits for a lot of special situations… very versatile imo.
Spending 15 points in illusions is bad in general. The 3-9% damage is nothing compared to 100 power + 17.25% phant damage or 100 precision + 10% crit dmg wich also affects your phants. The 20% cdr are ok, but again a 3rd inspiration trait is superior. Traiting in illusions just grants terrible stats and is onlyrecommended if using a full reflection uptime / dmg build. %dmg affects reflection, power doesn’t, precision does aswell crit dmg.
You’ve neglected the fact that Illusionists Celerity also reduces the CD on both Illusionary Leap and llusionary Riposte, both of which enhance our in-combat mobility, something we normally lack. That’s worth far more than anything else as far as I’m concerned.

I came here from City of Heroes, and our non-RP servers were like what Tarnished Coast is here. The unofficial RP server (Virtue Server) was just unreal. RP would break out mid-PUG for no reason, and a lot of the time everyone would just run with it. Yes, we had trolls (we also had Trolls, who were green skinned Superadyne addicts, but that’s a different problem), but by and large RP was all over that server. And it was awesome.
GW2, especially compared to a game like that or SWG, is very RP unfriendly. PC outfits are fairly limited, the chat system is awful, the emotes are sparse, and more. Still, there’s those of us that RP here.
Are we playing the same game? The GW2 I know has dozens of armor sets that can be mixed and matched, a highly customizable chat menu and tons of roleplay breaking out in the remotest regions over on TC and PS.
Even then, all you need for RP is a decent community. The rest can be improvised from there.
I wouldn’t go all celestial, but for the odd trinket or two where acquiring a replacement isn’t going to be easy, I don’t see the problem.
I don’t see why not, assuming if someone else like a Guardian can pick up the reflects.
Heaven forbid we don’t all play the same cookie cutter build in our game mode of choosing…
That 25% speed buff still won’t solve the overall lack of mobility from skills unless you’re running a PU build.
Why would that only be useful in PvP? There’s way more crap on the screen in PvE and WvW than an sPvP match.
Shatter works fine in PvE… Mind Wrack is our only reliable method of AoE, after all.
Or rather than complaining about how other players aren’t ‘as good as you’ you could bring up the issue that most players don’t believe dodge should even be such a freaking huge part of the game. Dodge is 90% of the games skill yet other than uptime and 1 trait on most classes it is always exactly the same across every class in every fight, it negates any need for most stats or builds, prevents you from having to learn different mechanics for different mobs, and bogs every class down to one, two, or even zero trait paths.
It is not the players fault that ANet has invested such a ridiculous portion of its game into mechanics that most players do not consider fun enough to learn. People become more skilled at something when they find it enjoyable, not when they feel forced into it. If forced, they will just find a go-around, a cheat, or they will leave; but they will never put in the work to become more skilled.
Better stop playing ARPGs, then, because they’re all based around dodging which is frankly a good thing.
See Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Dragon’s Dogma, etc. for reference.
Heroes are what killed grouping in GW1 for good. No thanks.
This thread sure did do a good job of validating the previous one. Oh, the irony…
There’s plenty of what you’re looking for when it comes to medium armor. I don’t see your point.
Uh, GW2 has one of the biggest RP communities I’ve seen in an MMO. Check out Tarnished Coast and Piken Square, you’ll practically trip over them.
You are correct. GW2 is one of the least RP friendly MMOs ever made. That’s unlikely to change anytime soon. RPers are not their “target audience”.
On the contrary, this is about as good as it gets these days. Maybe if pre-CU SWG were still around and Vanguard had an actual population there’d be a legit alternative.
Temporary, zerg-centric LS combat is not reflective of a shift in design principle. The biggest majority of content in GW2 is created for 1-5 players minimum and I doubt that will ever change.
All the content that GW2 released with was designed for solo/small group play.
Never been to Orr, I see.
I’ve been doing the wurm solo lately for the metrica daily. It takes about 4-5 minutes to kill. Two additionally people showed up once and it only took 2 minutes. Much faster compared to having 50+ AFK auto attackers.
I was wondering if I was the only one. I can’t speak for the wurm thing but in most cases, I find most events much easier when playing by myself or with a friend than I do with dozens of players throwing the scaling out of balance.

I just didn’t find the mesmer that entertaining.
Should have just left it at that, just add “to me” at the end.
It’s only viable because the game is ridiculously easy.
I’ve solo’d CM P3 on my guard naked and traitless, with just my exotic weapons.
So, having no traits or gear other than some exotic weapons is viable.
However, it’s not a good way to play. You wouldn’t ever recommend anyone to play like that.
It becomes a question of efficiency, and zerker is the more efficient way to play in PvE.Personally, I’ve played DPS in WoW for years. Then I discovered healing, and I loved my priest to death.
It saddens me too I can’t heal in this game.
But the truth is that the game just wasn’t made to accomodate for all playstyles. It’s made to accomodate just one in its current state. If you want build variety in GW2, go to PvP. Zerker sucks there, and while it’s far from a great place to be for build variety, it’s infinitely better than the current state of PvE in the game.
All I got out of this was a lot of self-boasting which isn’t reflective of how the game actually is.
(edited by medohgeuh.4650)
You only have to do five to qualify for the daily reward; it’s not that hard to do in a short amount of time if you just play the game as-intended.
When it comes down to it, it’s really nothing more than extra incentive to do what most everyone in GW2 does on a daily basis. Not a boring grind in the slightest unless you just don’t like the game to begin with.
It could be used for parrying purposes, like a more defensive offhand sword.
I don’t see the problem other than the fact we need smaller shield skins.
TL;DR: DPS stats scale way better than other stats and the brunt of control/support power is already found on the skills each class can unlock, hence there is no need to pick any stats other than Power/Precision/Critical Damage.
There is if it doesn’t suit your playstyle.
Pretty much everything is viable in GW2, and that’s the beauty of it. Only the player base can be blamed for the fixation on the zerker meta.
So after reading this post I came across people responding in the matter that disturbed me a little bit.
You cannot say “you play for skins” “you play for this”
If this person’s goal is to farm allot of gold the game should be offering him a variable gaming experience.
A good game in my eyes is a game that attract many different kind of people and furfill all their needs, the explorers, the pvpers, the pvers, the gold farmers, the rp’s and so fourth
Jack of all trades, master of none.
The best games tend to be the ones with a very clear focus for that reason alone.
Still those zones have the stench of old on them, especially for those of us, that have completed the maps.
So you punish those who actually played the game by sending them back to what they have already seen. There is no feel of progression.
This is boring.
Speak for yourself. I have no problem going over an area I’ve already been through because I’m always finding something I never noticed before.
The problem is you, not the game.
Please, the only reason anyone wants a mesmer is for a few utility skills. Outside of that, we’re just as unwanted as the rest of the classes.
Aesthetics are subjective, though. No game will ever manage to appeal to everyone in that regard.
How is it “laughable”? City of Heroes was graphically simplistic (even for its time period) making it far easier to design for.
It’s not comparable in the slightest.
Illusions = both phantasms and clones, so yes, it does.
What else did you expect? You’re approach a game by a rule set that it doesn’t and will never follow.
No wonder you’re disappointed.
There are a few pieces I think dye awkwardly (cabalist set skirt, for one), but other than that I think the selection is magnificent.
If you can’t find at least one thing for your character to wear in Guild Wars 2, then it’s you, not the game.
