How long do you see yourself playing GW2?

Casual gamer, so probably stick with this for quite a while.
I am not as rich in-game as you are and, having played SWTOR at launch and before that CO, two gams were you could really get rich fast, I feel constantly broke in GW2.

Elite Skill Golems

The golems are just bad in general. I really regret picking the d-series golem now.

It’s gotta be better than the useless battle suit thing. Less damage than I can put out without it, and just as squishy as I am without it.

Everything is better than that Battle Suit.

Switching from Human to Asuan Guardian, worth it?

Everything is better if combined with an Asura. It’s only natural as Asuran scientists will be happy to prove.
Besides, your character will be smarter: studies show that inteligence is in direct, reverse relation to body size, making asura the smartest of the races and norn the least intelligent.

human - noble - 1. quest (level 3) - got swarmed by bandits + insane spawns

The fault I see with the L2P argument when it comes to some missions is that the very early personal story missions that have the “swarmed by enemies” problem are, well… early, low level missions. At that point you shouldn’t be expected to know every mechanic and strategy. A lvl 3 mission seems the wrong place to tell players “well you should have known how to kite, run circles and shoot arrows at opponents”. Especially as warrior or thief may actually get into the mission without having a ranged weapon yet.

good luck with the new job!

Fire Elemental at Thaumanova Reactor

Maybe an NPC shouting tells would work?

“that Bridge is a deathtrap, get in there….!”
“We are being swarmed by his minions, kill the firethingys” (cant remember their name)

Or something similar, the difficulty is spot on in my opinion, though as its a starting area, maybe a few hints would not go amiss.

+1 for this!
really thats the solution here!!

+2

As it is a lowbie area it doesn’t hurt to “teach” a tiny bit more actively.
As it stands the fire elemental only really is dead ‘ard because the event scales to all the corpses littering the bridge. It’s a good thing there are no real physics in games otherwise that bridge may very well ahve collapsed under all the people waiting to be revived…

Ugh that mission was terrible. Nice concept but terrible implementation. It turned you into a sitting duck with nothing to do but hope that your opponents would sprain an ankle or something while they beat you up.
Seriously, when I finally got downed and had to throw rocks at them to rally, I felt I was at last fighting somewhat effectively.

Why college of synergetics? Any asura male character you can get that vibe. If this was a bioware game you’d have romanced her a long time ago and then she’d get jealous because for some reason Rytlock would also think you are fantastic even though you were simply being understanding of the plights of the charr people :P

Priory Mission: Doubt - the grawl talk animation

in Personal Story

melkathi.5203

I am not sure where this should go, but since I found it in a personal story mission putting it here. Obviously spoilers

During the Priory missions I was send to do missions with the Grawl. So I went. I found a Grawl and talked to him. But his idle animation and his talking animation are nearly identical (or my imagination made me think there are two sepparate animations). It made the dialogue scenes extremly wierd. Here there is this savage with a very cultured voice who hardly moves his mouth while speaking.
I found it rather affecting the atmosphere and imerssion.

Personal Story Difficulty Unacceptable

I like challenging missions. The missions that bother me are the ones that have duration and difficulty created through spawning waves immediatly after the previous wave was defeated. It seems… lazy (in lack of a better word). Is there no other way of making those missions interesting? Especially at low levels when players do not yet have access to a huge selection of tricks, some of those missions seem to punish specific type of players a bit more than necessary, without actually being challenging in a stimulating way: a zerg of npcs is not challenging in any way other than how good an aoe spam one can device.

Seems easiest to do the daily in the low level areas. Metrica province has quite a few working events that happen frequently.
Also the various centaur areas (except for those burning fields in eastern Queensdale).

Suicide button.

Doesn’t the slash-command /killme that works in other MMOs work here? That’s a shame then…

halloween event

But me being Aussie has a big part of my bias in this. Just because it’s celebrated in one part of the world doesn’t mean it should be shoved in my face everykittenyear.

For me the “Thanksgiving” episodes in so many TV series are worse

I don’t mind events as long as they just import the general theme/atmosphere. So using Halloween as an excuse to have an increase in undead activity or some witches coven doing stuff I can enjoy. But while I dont necessarily mind “seasonal” cosmetic items, I sure can do without them.

Romance

in Personal Story

Posted by: melkathi.5203

melkathi.5203

While it wouldn’t adversely affect me if it was added without any real consequences for the character, I am not very keen on romance options in games. I feel they often cheapen the writing; a npc should be made interesting and the player invested in them without the possibility of love/marriage/sex. I believe that is harder to achieve and therefor a non-romancable npc that players truly care about is a greater testament to a writer’s skill. When romance drives the story forward it is great and can truly enhance a story, but when it’s added just for romance’s sake, then I can happily do without it.
So I hope that if/when romances get added, it is done well or in a way that it can easily be ignored

Sylvari Engineer – Steamwood

Need to come up with a Charr but the Sylvari character creator is so much fun…

Bad Blood

Posted in a different thread, but may as well say it here as well: died over thirty times doing this, but had a blast doing so as I was in vent and joking about it with friends.
As an experiment in exploring non-kill-all type quests I thought this was a great idea. The implementation on the other hand not so much.
Still, I made a short little video of my experience

Though by the time I thought about doing that I had died over 20 times already

That video is priceless! Glad I found this thread, I’m taking notes for when my mesmer goes through this one.

Thank you
Just remember, when you do it on your mesmer you may make it across on the first try and not understand why people were having any trouble. For some it is a breeze (ooh I made a pun!)

Attempted this quest several times one night and failed, yesterday morning I failed TWENTY times before giving up, although I was entertaining my guild and vent with my count as I went along. Then last night, tried it again, and did it on the first run! It’s crazy to make it that difficult. Definitely take off your armor though, it save a lot of money that way!

This can be a very entertaining mission for vent. Totally worth it just for that

I think this quest was an interesting attempt to give players something else to do in the Personal Story other than the old “kill everything” approach. For that I really appreciate the effort the devs made to make Durmand Priory missions fit the faction not only in backstory but also in implementation.
That being said, it is a bit unfortunate to add something into the main game that many players may just be really bad at and end up very frustrated with. Jumping puzzles for example are great, but they are great because they are optional and you will never feel forced or tricked into them.
I had a lot of trouble with the flags for some reason, even though I had already done the Metrica Province jumping puzzle and was supposedly familiar with crossing narrow places with stong winds.
Though being in vent at the time and joking about it made it a lot more amusing and I think after while concentration was lapsing.
So I made a video of it to commemorate my abysmal performance in this mission:
