but his is the right idea. most of you haven’t a clue about what youre talking about. any experienced ranger knows how bad RaO is and how it can be improved. it needs instacast, and it needs a lower CD. that’s pretty much fact.

@Mistsim:
Possibly, but let’s look at the numbers for that…

To account for not gettings stats, they said they are going to move base stats from their current 926 to about 1,000.

In sPvP a glassbow doesn’t get any more toughness or vitality, so you’re at 1,000 vitality … that’s 74 more Vitality.

74 Vitality means you’ll have about 740 more health than the base 15,182 … so 15,922 … we’ll round up to 16,000 for simpler math.

So Barkskin will reduce damage by 50% until you are at 90% hp or lower. So that means as soon as you lose 1,600 health, Barkskin won’t be helping you. So that means they only have to hit you for 3,200 direct damage to drop your Barkskin as 3,200 reduced by 50% is that 1,600 damage they need to inflict to drop Barkskin.

Last I checked, that isn’t very hard to do when talking about the class that drops most zerk classes in a few seconds … over 15k.

I’d be very careful before placing my trust into Barkskin when it’s based on my %HP and my HP pool is tiny.

it takes off the sting from their opening strike, which is all that matters. that’s what I meant. if they deal 4k damage on their first backstab and youre at 100% HP, that gets reduced to 2k. it gives us more of a fighting chance.

Is Ranger in WvW underwhelming to you?

ranger is notorious for being extremely underwhelming in WvW. don’t listen to the fanboys. you cant frontline with it effectively, and honestly I prefer even my meditation guard for roaming because he’s more effective with teammates. not to mention mesmers, thieves, and warriors. thieves and mesmers are so much better than glassbows, it’s ridiculous. they always have been.

glassbow is situational, and bunker condi builds are the best 1v1 builds but that’s not what wvw is about at all. im speaking from about 1000 hours in wvw with my ranger alone (dueling, roaming, gvg’s and raiding).

I believe the specialization patch will make the frontline ranger viable.

mistsim.2748

I say no so it stays in line with the other transform skills.

Imagine Lich form being used every 60 seconds.

be reasonable man…RaO doesn’t even give you a fraction of the damage that Rampage and Lich Form do. the main reason to pop RaO is usually just to get the stab. we often have fury and swiftness anyway, and mightstacking on RaO is pathetic because the pet cant hit. RaO isn’t even comparable to the other transforms, and it actually isn’t a transform. theyre making it a shout. so it should work like a shout.

Predator’s Onslaught need buff..

in Ranger

mistsim.2748

And it would make the Sword too powerful. That’s the reason its not buffed. The sword cripples. PO is not made for sPvP either. That’s why they put 10% dmg onto Striders Defense with Sword.

using sword as the main source of damage is usually suicide. so I think it’d be fine.

remember that part of the trait applying to pet is really negligible. not sure if devs realize this but pets cant reliably apply dps. I mean, they better realize it by now.

fully agreed with OP. RaO always blows because of the huge CD and cast time. make it a real shout, shorten its duration and remove cast time. this will also fix the fact that rangers have ZERO on-demand stability, meaning u can get stab at any moment without a cast time.

again, totally support OP. he knows what hes talking about and any ranger with that many hours, especially in pvp (like myself), will likely agree.

WH5 is supportive. It’s good now…regen, fury, blast finisher and swiftness. If they made the might 3 stacks, that’d be money. So WH 4 needs to have some offensive utility. My vote is for slow or boon stripping, which we both need in our toolset

I’d say a flock of birds getting in your face and pecking at your eyes would certainly cause blindness. Not to mention all the feathers and dust flying in your face from their flapping wings.

1. i want to see what will be done to make spirits and traps relevant
2. a handful of traits are useless or unfinished
3. WH and OH axe are still in a horrible state in pvp, and i want to see what will come of these bad offhands
4. half of our pets don’t have a use, and id like to see them made into competitive choices

Predator’s Onslaught need buff..

in Ranger

Posted by: mistsim.2748

mistsim.2748

Predator’s Onslaught is a useless GM for pvp.

1. it’s too situational. people have a lot of cleanses and most of the time they wont have those condis on them

2. many pets don’t do significant damage, while others will always struggle to connect with the target; therefore, boosting the pet’s damage…it’s unreliable

3. we’re always much better off grabbing Remorseless, or LTW if using LB; PO will never get picked

this GM needs buffing to at least +15% damage of pet and ranger. this would make it “not bad”, but for it to compete with LTW and Remorseless, the bonus really need to be doubled to +20% for both pet and ranger. and my argument for that is: 1) soft CC isn’t gonna stay on the target for more than a second or two, and 2) the pet doesn’t make contact with the target very well.

+15-20% damage would make the GM competitive and could make MH axe and SB very formidable.

I actually think that all warhorn 4 really needs is a blind on an interval.

Let’s say, 4 blinds, one per every 4 hits, on like a 3-4 second duration?

5 blinds, 1 per every 3 hits, same duration?

Or it could also apply the new Slow. That would also fit thematically well and “feel” effective.

Even some sort of just cripple would be welcomed. Other than that, I don’t personally really think that Warhorn needs any more damage on the 4 skill, and we already have 2 entirely condition based offhands, and with offhand axe as the power option, warhorn really just needs to bring the full on utility imo.

Also, can we please get the might stacks up to 3 on warhorn 5? I mean, I already see perma-fury niches with certain traiting, but the single might stack has been bothering me since forever.

I think locking down a target with blinds for 5 seconds is OP. thieves do it with combo, necros do it with wells that you have to stand in. Hunter’s Call would have no counterplay. same if it was a cripple.

we don’t really need to buff our 1v1 capabilities, we don’t need more defense. we need more team utility.

and yes to getting that might up to 3 stacks.

Warhorn & Windborne Notes Trait

I think that Hunter’s Call birds should rip off boons. adjust the animation in some way, maybe have 4 birds swoop in over 2 seconds to take off 4 boons from one target. secondary effect could be just straight up single target nuke, a soft CC, or small buff to the ranger.

this skill is a perfect place to insert boon hate on the ranger. I hope theyre also giving some attention to Whirling Defense.

Proposed Ways To Introduce Boon Removal

If they decide to address the pet performance with something other than band aid fixes then that could be an option. The rangers have a choice to make (choosing to bring a pet with boon stripe) or not.

they are addressing pet performance. their F2 is being virtually overhauled. casting the F2 will result in a variety of pbaoe effects like weakness and taunt. pbaoe’s don’t miss and they hit multiple targets.

rangers not being competitive currently doesn’t have much to do with rangers being weak, but with the versatility of a handful celestial specs.

builds that stack 20+ bleeds on a target are not competitive, and likely youre seeing success in a very “low tier” environment. im assuming youre talking about shortbow critz, because the meta condi bunker cant stack that many bleeds on a semi-competent player. any kind of rabid ammy build isn’t competitive. the only semi-competitive build involves the settler’s ammy; and even with a perfect splitblade + sharpening stone proc + geomancy we’re talking like 15-16 stacks only. but you can mask the bleeds with other condis and reapply them quickly. great against engies, less so against skilled shoutbows and d/d’s

Traps improvement.

in Ranger

Posted by: mistsim.2748

mistsim.2748

I think some kind of stealth mechanic would work great with traps. traps don’t offer the ranger any utility (no stun breaks, no target drops, no evades, no boons, etc.), so anything to improve survivability with 3 traps slotted would be great. like the trapper rune, maybe a camouflage when the trap is set, or triggering Hide In Plain Sight.

again, the major issue with slotting traps is survivability, hands down. with the upcoming activation timer, applying dps will be even more challenging…but that should be ok as long as the trap is unblockable or cant be sprung with dodgeroll spam

I think it would be super cool if pets removed 1 boon on a critical, say every 10 seconds or less. adding this to rending attacks would be practical. rangers don’t have to have the best boon removal in the game, but we need some. even the guard can remove boons with Searing Flames. gaps like these really need to be filled. every profession should be able to do anything if specced appropriately.

Expertise training is very interesting in the adept slot! Longer pbaoe cripple, fear, chill, immob, poison, weakness. Pets are becoming pbaoe bots which will ensure they hit more targets more reliably.

ET would work in power builds that don’t need ambidexterity.

I agree that rending attacks is underwhelming because it relies on pet making contact with a single target.

Condi rangers is far from average. Its a great build. Way better than Power ranger.

In the grand scheme of the meta, Condi bunkers are painfully average outside of 1v1’s which are very rare while roaming or holding a point in pvp. It’s not even a competitive build compared to celestial roaming builds (shoutbow, rifle/kit, d/d). All cele builds are better in 2v1 or small skirmish scenarios, which dominate both wvw and pvp meta.

This is a horrible idea. Stealth needs to proc when we’re in trouble or when we need to be offensive, not when we’re taking fall damage.

I don’t think that was what Durzlla meant, but rather that the two traits works as they do now, but combined into one.

I see. Well regardless, I feel a certain type of ranger… perhaps the trapper… could benefit from a second semi-on-demand stealth. Like camouflage after placing s trap and standing still or something. We shouldn’t rely on just one weapon.

placement of axe and Gs show me the light.

in Ranger

mistsim.2748

The lowdown of it is:

- MH axe gives might to you and the pet; might stacking hugely benefits pet so you can put points in more defensive stats like healing power, which allows you to be tankier.

- axe also has a spammable soft cc which further benefits pet

- GS also has a bunch of cc’s that benefit the pet but also vuln stacking

- GS generating fury allows you to invest less in precision and therefore more into defensive stats; it will also work beautifully with remorseless GM

BM and the two weapons basically allow you to go tankier while still outputting decent damage. A power build with more sustain for example. Before with cleric gear, our damage was negligible even though we had lots of sustain. The placement of these traits that buff these weapons in BM was arguably very well thought out. You can and will still use GS with other power builds but as it is currently, you won’t need to trait GS. Whereas BM line benefits from traiting these weapons.

Hope this helps.

Critique of Ranger changes

Sword is completely non-viable in zergs because it separates you from the group… it’s a skirmishing weapon.

I see strider’s defense as a way of dealing with us blowing up when 1-1-1’ing with the sword. It’s near useless because we are mostly killed by cleave, ground-targeted aoe’s, pbaoe’s and non-projectile ranged attacks. I think SD should simply give a flat defensive bonus while meeleing someone. Forget destroying projectiles, I give zero kittens about that situational scenario. -10-15% damage taken while in mêlée should be good.

A flat defensive bonus would still be better than its current iteration. They could possibly do something like “Dodging a projectile grants you a buff that reduces damage taken by 15% for 5 seconds” 5 second ICD. This would at least be controllable and skillbased, although it might need balancing.

This would indeed be very very cool. I hope they read our suggestions and dont waste the opportunity to create a fun new GM mechanic.

I’m just laughing at the idea of taking 1 handed sword in WvW. You’ll just end up somersaulting into the middle of an enemy zerg trying to activate the trait. Evade on GS auto attack is still going to work much better.

ok read striders while performing a Melee attack , you do not have to hit anything.

Swinging at air would make this trait a bit more interesting, if not sillier. But I doubt it works this way… likely you have to be hitting something.

the problem in general with Wilderness Knowledge, is that no matter what line its in, is its really too good to pass up for the majority of builds – its staple-ish, even if you only take entangle and troll unguent.

Exactly. I just can’t see any non-glassbow ranger rolling without wilderness knowledge and TU…they are so so good. HS will need serious buffs, and if they want us using shouts and HaO, they will need to rework the shouts completely. Adding more utility to them like lots of boons, condis or stunbreaks. Otherwise their ‘shout line’ will fail.

I think it would be cool if shouts gave boons to ranger, pet and maybe the whole party. To make it different from other shouts in the game, I think shouts shouldn’t apply to the party, instead just massively buffing pet and ranger. Prot to both, might stacks to both, there should be a quickness or resistance shout, a stunbreak shout, etc.

And survival skills should continue to work as anti-Condi toolset.
