I don’t mind courtyard. what I mind is scrubs/trolls ragequitting when it pops, or when they die once or twice. this, like other maps, sucks when youre outnumbered
… this game…. please add our old Team q mmr… im tired of playing with and vs bad players… im honestly just gonna have to super pug ever game?? i dont mind steamrolling everyone// but i would prefer if i could just solo q
this is my biggest issue right now. there is too much trash happening with new/bad players trolling, and ragequitting without giving a hoot about the penalty.
I want to be separate from people who’ve never played a certain map, who have no clue how to use their build, who don’t understand conquest, etc. this population needs to troll itself, not others.
anyhow, those seems like good and necessary changes.
I’m on SBI and I was expecting a huge resurgence of players. I go on today, and 5 people are on commander in EB. BL’s empty except for a few roamers.
is this really it? I was looking forward to GvG’s and full maps, huge brawls, like things were 2 years ago. it breaks my heart. how is tier 1?

Lb arrows can get side stepped at like 900, maybe even 600. Rtw is absolutely necessary if you’re using it for damage to attack people who aren’t afk.
Healing spring isn’t the best water in the game. It’s a pbaoe, long cd and not as large as healing rain. Oh did I mention it’s pbaoe?
All you need is PA and rtw. EE is a nice bonus but totally unnecessary. Personally I feel rtw is necessary if you wanna use the lb for damage.
yeah, make sure to report the Entangle bugs guys.
most specs actually have no way to close this distance without giving up all of their escapes and mobility, i.e. blink, RTL. and why are you assuming im gonna sit still and do nothing instead of dictating range? getting humped by a lone thief is part of the job description, it’s actually expected. this is why i have GS. in addition to multiple stun breakers, fear, etc. if i really feel like it, i can LR and swoop for 2100 range just the same, followed by a knockback and invis.
also, 30% increase in damage? what rubbish are you suggesting, it’s not needed and no one who has a clue asked for it.
(edited by mistsim.2748)
sadly we still depend on the pet for burst. i would say qz is a must for this build. few things that ranger brings and gs mesmer doesnt: wolf fear, aoe immobilizes and cripple on point which are game changing (less relevant in wvw), superior mobility hands down, and sustained dps is much higher
im not trying to put your down either. youre probably seeing all the bearbows from pve. when u see an lb ranger who knows what hes doing (not necessarily me), you’ll remember it. thanks for your 2c.
i dont think you know what youre talking about tbh because why would i be getting pulled, dazed, interrupted when i have an invis, immob, short cd condi cleanses, fear, evade, kb, stun, block, 1200 leap, and two stun breakers. most of this is off cooldown anyway because i dictate range on most engagements. and i dont cap points until i kill whatever is on it first.
and i only play teamq where i faced “intelligent” well known players in addition to beating premades with pugs.
people will hate you so much when you pew pew them down from 1500. it drives everyone insane. they become rabid and cuss at you. but all they have to do is counterplay by approaching or sending another roamer after you. this is balance.
two zerker LB rangers can crush any single target in seconds, or cause an immediate burn out of all defensive CD’s. people will learn they have to address this by countering, or risk losing the entire team on point. luckily we have LR, Hunter’s shot, swoop, Entangle and wolf fear to mitigate this =)

Also have you got any tips for Battle of Khylo, I find this map to be where I am least effective.
sorry, i missed this question. khylo should be your best map. i can tell you what i do but im not sure if im correct. im still actually learning spvp because i only recently left my wvw bubble.
i go straight for far and see if i can kill whatever is there. i have to be honest, i own typical hambows and spirit rangers. necro is very doable just be careful not to get fear-locked on your way up the ramp. most engies will die, zerker rifle and bubble turrets can make things difficult sometimes but these are cheese. so most typical specs you should be able to take down 1v1. it’s the cheese tanky condi specs that will give you trouble. i also saw this silly cleric staff ele the other day and i couldnt burst him down.
if youre taking too long, move on to treb. after that support clocktower from the ledges. send your drake + barrage with Qz to burst down whatever is on there. if youre comfortable taking down the people on far point, keep pressure there.
also remember, if theyre sending someone after you, youre doing your job well. good teams will sic their roamer on you for sure. good thieves and engies most likely so just be ready.

prysin while i agree that ranger is in a great shape after patch in spvp and maybe pve (?), not enough has been done to make the profession viable in organized wvw (gvg/gvz).
maybe, MAAAAAYBE GC rangers can now compete with GS mesmers and thieves in focus groups to burst targets down. but when it comes to wiping competent groups that are 50-100% the size of your guild, rangers just dont have enough sustain and aoe dps. this is a fact and should be addressed by the devs. thing is im so burned out on WvW that i just dont give a kitten about rangers in that setting. not any more.
it is true that ranger hate in WvW in very out of hand in NA. when i kill people in wvw and spvp, it seems i get hated even MORE. it’s sad and funny.
oh and while eles have to sacrifice their dps for a few seconds to put out water fields, rangers completely give up their survivability! if you put your water on the commander, you dont have a heal for 30 seconds. bad.
i do think you can design a viable support melee ranger for gvg/gvz that can spit out immobilizes and a bit of damage. i demonstrated that in my sentinel guide. however, would i give up a warrior, guard or necro slot for this ranger? no, because these 3 profs when specced right can immob and put out much more aoe damage compared to the ranger. not to mention aoe hard cc!!
(edited by mistsim.2748)
you can really steamroll single targets.
you can nuke a point with qz + barrage + lightning breath, followed by tailswipe which hits for 2.4k base on a heavy. it’s insanity.
Glad we’re finally gaining diversified builds out of “hurr durr spirit 1 spam.”
yes =) it’s nice to have a roaming role. dont have to bunk home all the time.

confirmed that this is an issue with the g9x, which is a shame because it’s one of the best mice on the market. when i switched to my naga, no issues.
kicked for being a ranger, sounds about right. rangers are banned from organized WvW play. spvp is fun though.
Um, what? Kicked from organized WvW? Never had that happen. Maybe you should switch to the quarry…
By organized WvW i think he means GvG, in other words, a fake game type that even Anet isn’t supporting.
i also mean GvZ. none of the top guilds (i.e. the ones that successfully wipe zergs twice their size) allow rangers. ive pushed the ranger to the max in that setting, and even i admit bringing a ranger is a waste of a slot. you have to be seriously delusional to think that it’s ok to bring a ranger over a necro, staff ele, guard, or warrior if we’re minmaxing the team.
and like it or not, the “fake game type” (whatever the kitten that means), is the only thing keeping most WvW vets interested in WvW. and it gives newcomers something to aim for. because WvW is entirely pointless in itself.

sorry to hear that, the build isnt for everyone. i was just on a team with another one of these. we had a good bunker and absolutely decimated everything.
confirmed it works perfectly
why do we have to suffer through Skyhammer and Spirit Watch? when are these getting removed from soloq as requested by just about everyone? playing teamq in higher brackets becomes ridiculous without a premade.
thanks jc, it gives me an idea where to start my gearing.
biggest waste of developer resources imo. oh and capricorn.
Lb does much more sustained damage than the rifle, and fires at up to +500 range.
(edited by mistsim.2748)
updated OP to more accurately reflect my current build and experiences.
It’s a cute build and all…sad to see that every ranger and his mother is running this build. I never tire of destroying these rangers with my trapper tho
Any ranger running longbow or GS i see as a free kill.
most rangers are probably running 30/30/10, which can be easily destroyed unless theyre exceptionally good. the only thing im not afraid of in tpvp is other rangers. trapper? really? id like to see you get within 1200 of me =)
(edited by mistsim.2748)
Thief is there to put you on your toes so that you pay attention at all times. Good thieves can make a big difference but they can all be countered by cc, burst or condis like any other prof.
So much fail in this thread. Just go to mists and take 10 mins to test things out before crying on the forums.
I switched to keen edge mostly for the fury. I’m gonna update the build now that gw2 skills is updated
Honestly dude no one gives a kitten about gw1. Give specific examples of hard counters in gw2 so we can all laugh at you.
@rym
It’s viable roaming build, very high skill cap. You can spike, go far point, steal npcs, cc, pressure bunkers. Basically a thief with more mobility, less stealth and superior long range dps, probably best in the game now. Long range allows you to choose targets and easily disengage if needed, rarely dying. You also bring hard cc and the most aoe immobilize in the game.
My intent wasn’t to focus on condi builds in this thread. I’m also not arguing this is the best ranger build for everyone, so tone down the ego. For the record, I’ve crushed every regen condi or spirit ranger I’ve faced so far. They’re so easily kited.
@dolt
Reasons I use gs are mobility, block, stun and burst. Too many good things. S/d just doesn’t have the dps and mobility.
(edited by mistsim.2748)
Op post is insulting and inappropriate. Honestly keep that garbage to yourself. Not to mention that you’re so very wrong in your stance on the matter. Spvp needed fresh players badly. Some will get better while others will sink to the low brackets, as is appropriate.

Hi,
I’m also having this exact camera mouse problem with my Logitech G700 (wired mode).
Yesterday I tried to troubleshoot/fix it myself, and here’s what I found :
- Using a software I coded for the matter, I found that GW2 sends fakes double clicks, on a delay no human can achieve (double clicks of 13-200 ms). Trying to filter or negate these fake double clicks is still under work. A log of my software can be provided for further investigation.
- It happens in wired and wireless modes
- It happens with and without the mouse software in memoryI noticed another thing, I don’t know if it’s linked :
When you have nothing selected and you turn your camera, if you directly face a pnj (without selecting it), it highlights itself. It’s like a semi-selection, and maybe it bypasses the focus function ? Juste a thought.I confirm this bug is extremely annoying, and could become a game breaker if it is not fixed quickly.
To me (a developer myself), a main component of the game is currently broken : the camera.
Please fix it ASAP.
bumping this because the problem is worse than ever on my g9x. and i think this dude has it figured out, listen to him. my camera cant seem to rotate in really intense fights. problem is resolved BRIEFLY when i switch usb ports, before starting up again after a few minutes.
Your build is gaining a reputation. He(BLU42) mentions a guy from Arkham(hard to make out)? But, looking at your guild tag I think he’s referring to you. Congrats on the build.
Thx but I think jcbroe ran something very similar if not identical since patch hit. Someone did whisper me about the build and we chatted guess it was blu I forget his character’s name.
@con
I’m looking forward to gearing this for wvw. I got decent stats with valk armor, zerker/valk trinkets, assassin weapons and precision runes. But I’m sure it can be minmaxed better. Gonna put out a guide soon and maybe we can discuss minmaxing there.
@ keen
That’s outdated I think…definitely sigil of intelligence on the gs as per someone’s suggestion, I love it.
(edited by mistsim.2748)
I very rarely have condis on me to be honest, biggest problem being nade engines in which case I just need to invis and reposition. Poison and blind is least of my concerns at long range. So far anyway.
It doesn’t matter what is said in this thread, you have an agenda and you can’t be convinced. Some people prefer to whine instead of coming to conclusions based on thorough experimentation. A lot of you speak like you know what you’re talking about. But you only think you know.
Eurantien, i tested 30.30.10 for a few hours and you gotta sell it to me man…i just dont gain enough from 30 in skirm, and lose so much sustain. MoC is nice, but i feel it needs a much larger bonus. pet crit bonus is decent, but not game changing. Tail Wind is sweet, but i dont need it with Pack Runes. already have vigor. rarely find decreased bow CD’s useful.
the main things id gain are the extra crit chance and 20% crit damage, which i could barely notice in practice.
30 in NM gives me: on-demand cleanses, 30% boon duration, extra vit for dat condi meta, protection, and 100 power.
I would still say that the pet is messed up, and I will continue to say so as long as the pet is meant to deal damage or the AI ain’t godlike.
As I have said already, RTW is highly situational and can be made useless by simply closing up to the ranger.
your opinions do not match my experiences. i would say pets are very effective. their cc and applied dps are much better and f2’s activate reliably all of the time (so far). you simply cant ignore the pet any more. for example, my raven’s f2 downed some poor hambow with a 3.5k crit because he was completely ignoring it. the bird was on him constantly. if the enemy focuses the pet, i will continue unloading from a safe distance.
RTW is game-changing for LB rangers. it’s useful for every situation if youre using LB properly (i.e. from max distance), therefore not situational. RTW increases applied dps of the LB, which is laser-accurate with the trait.
anyway, Poison Master looks very interesting to me because you can keep applying poison to a target over and over again. so if your team wants someone dead, you will keep it perma poisoned with this trait. the damage bonus isnt what’s important. it comes down to the frequency of application because everyone cleanses. i tested it briefly and i see it as an interesting Mortal Strike mechanic (referring to WoW). it can work with power and condi specs.
the only GM that was a complete blunder is Strider’s Defense. not sure what they were thinking with that one, or maybe im just missing something. it looks so bad on paper that i havent even bothered to test it.
Survival of the Fittest, I can honestly say that a longbow 30/0/10/30/0 build as a long range single target DPS with air/fire sigils works incredibly beyond what I could have imagined for it.
Now, I’ve played a few different versions of the build I’m suggesting (x/x/30/30/x),
It also works decently in a 0/0/30/30/10 build because you pet swap and get might
Oh, for all you theorycrafters out there, Sigil of Battle + Mighty Swap + Runes of Strength.
yes to all of the above. lots of new toys to play with. ive been so busy wrecking people with 30/0/10/30/0 that i havent had the time to properly test some of the interesting BM and Poison Master builds. I agree that SOTF creates many new opportunities for us. im very excited about BM though, as pets are very deadly now, at least in spvp.
i would also like to add that for once, i finally feel we have enough tools to work with, and the only thing holding me back is my level of skill. i never felt this way about the ranger before.
(edited by mistsim.2748)
Wow what an epic OP. Couldn’t have said it better. A lot of potential in gw2 development is squandered on garbage
I’m still seeing good thieves.
We can definitely spike.
Hunter shot for invis > qz + send pet > swoop > bash + pet f2 > maul
There’s your 9k spike. You can also spike with LB if you have the right spec and sigils from 1500 range.
We used to be able to spike with sb as well until they nerfed quickness.
Power rangers can put out some serious pain from long range while roaming due to lb AA being reliable with new gm train. Pets have more applied dps and cc meaning condi bunkers and poison masters will be quite formidable.
People haven’t figured it out yet but rangers are in a good spot.
Because rtw arrows track so well you really don’t need eagle eye. I prefer piercing arrows for spvp due to pet clutter and the trait just improves applied dps.
That being said, eagle eye will give you a ridiculous 1800 range which should be used with rtw otherwise arrows won’t connect. This would be more appropriate for larger more open areas where it’s easier to snipe single targets.
I think it’s just my preference that’s to blame. I feel the build is too hybridized and doesn’t excel at any particular thing.
I’ve just started playing a zerker in teamq rank 600 – ish and climbing. It’s not anything like you describe so far. I can dictate range at all times and I never feel focused.
@ kiwi
I am using zerker ammy
I don’t see the build working any other way.
@euratien
Ehh I don’t think sotf is training wheels. The extra vit gives you a bit of buffer against stray condis because u will get clipped by a doom or burning. Facing thieves also becomes less of a gamble. Thing is I don’t find I hit that much harder with 6 in skirm, but I will do more testing.
(edited by mistsim.2748)
If you’re gonna bring an offensive power spec to the team, you absolutely need to be able to spike and preferably roam. If not, then u gotta have high sustain to at least hold home or something. Maybe this is just me, but I think power rangers are basically competing with roamers and tanky hybrids like hambows, something spirit ranger fulfills. I played a cleric bunker for over a year before going wvw fulltime, and I was able to fulfill that role as well. Then ravens hit really hard and no condi meta.
(edited by mistsim.2748)
your play isnt bad, but i just dont see how this build is effective. you cant spike anyone, you cant bunk. you couldnt take down a hammer monkey on your own and in team fights your damage output is mediocre at best. the longbow just doesnt feel right, i feel you would benefit by using a GS instead and playing the build kinda like the original cleric bunker.
that being said, survivability isnt too bad and u bring revealed, water field and blast finish for your team.
Look at it from the other side. Dealing with pve/wvw baddies is a new concept to many vets. If your game is on another level you wouldn’t want to work with someone who has no idea how to play. So this MMR system is terrible.
That being said people will get used to the influx of new players and will eventually accept them
Also not sure what fantasy you live in but just about every pvp game has this problem.
