wvw: works on my bursty full meditation roaming build in small fights (PVT/zerker/celestial/knights). u mostly get it for the fury upkeep. does not work on my zerg-busting PVT/sentinel/knights setup. i cant do enough damage to make it worthwhile and when im in a zerg, i’ll either need to block (shelter) or heal to full (SoR)

spvp: works well with bursty meditation build. you only get it for the fury upkeep.

i think it will have a niche role in burst builds. the reason it works well with 3 other meditations when fully traited is it supplements your other heals on a very short CD (24s). i like to precast littany to keep myself topped up, and prevent my hp from dipping in the first place. if you use it as an o-kitten button, it will fail.

you guys also have to figure out how to deliver your burst in tight packets. and not all weapons work. best combo by far is sword/X/hammer. lets say i need a heal. i’ll precast littany and sword#3, and hit JI soon after. this ensures most sword projectiles smack the target simultaneously. i’ll follow this up with Mightly Blow and maybe Smite Condi. this combo will heal you to full generally. then you still have your 4th meditation, virtues and dodge rolls to keep yourself stable. by the time youre done, the other combo should be back up.

in wvw, full meditations will be deadly with celestial gear. it already is with my personal assortment of celestial/knights/zerker and pvt armor. you’ll be critting like a truck, and with 1k healing power (something i lack now) getting tons of extra heals and much better sustain.

conclusion: use for offensive bursty meditation builds in small fights/spvp to maintain fury and PREVENT damage. otherwise, not worth it.

this is very relieving to me, as i was gonna quit the game if the stat difference was significant. i have no plans on grinding crafting or fractals, so a large stat difference would have meant another WoW gear grind for me, which means /quitforever.

does anyone know the TOTAL difference between exo and ascended? (trinkets, weapon and armor)? is it something like 5%?

tried it. the heal is pretty bad if youre pvt or tanky. it works well if youre bursty, i.e. with some knight’s or zerker gear. amazing in spvp actually.

meditations are now viable in many aspects of the game. u can basically keep healing yourself to full, and have perma fury. the new heal does not work well with tanky builds, but is decent if youre bursty. in any case it gives u fury.

their attempt at making zeal more appealing was pathetic.

Melandru + lemongrass are my baseline. SoR and purity. And then few shouts here and there. Oh and 21k base hp. I found this to be more survivable than my cleric with 1600 healing power plus damage is way better. Looking forward to slotting the new heal with JI

I think with new heal fury will become more accessible. Pvt with clerics as others mentioned with a sprinkle of knights. With a higher fury uptime pvt guards will be beastly. I’m thinking sword focus hammer. 2 meditations and 2 shouts.

I will likely be running 2 shouts and 2 meditations including the heal. This will give my pvt guard additional heals and tons of fury. Both smite conditions and JI have very low cooldowns. Is it better than SoR with purity? We’ll see.

A berserker LB ranger makes an incredibly effective sniper. You’re not going to do much in a battle of two groups diving through each other and chasing tails, but you are one of the best tools for removing their best sources of combo fields. Get used to rapidly spotting elementalists.

Basically this. Put together a firing squad of zerk rangers nestled in the backline and watch targets drop.

Don’t make me laugh. These are free rallies. Glassy lb rangers can’t survive a single melee pain train pass. Drivers always go straight for the back line and soft kitten like rangers crumples. Staff eles and necros have a ton of survivability in contrast and do something like 4-5 times more aoe deeps.

Rangers with sentinel, pvt and knights with lb and oh Axe – that’s a different story

Why? Necros are still the strongest prof in duels, small scale and zerging. The issue is they had an awesome idea and couldn’t figure out the numbers.

War and guard heals can be counterplayed easily in spvp. But in wvw where they get lost in the crowd and are always whacking 5 targets it will be over the top.

one other thing id like to mention in agreement with Hexxed, is that we currently have zero kittens and l33t cats in the guild, and we hope to keep it that way. team players only =)

while we always encourage WvW meta profs and builds, our priority is to have fun. bring whatever profession you like to play, and with some tweaks we’ll make it work.

that’s where you misunderstand. the difference is amplified as the groups get larger. take an organized guild in a 20-man pain train, all with a 7% stats advantage fore example. almost all damage in WvW is aoe damage. even survivability is aoe (boon sharing).

it’s going to be a lot more than a 5% difference. and that’s PER character, as Melody mentioned. imagine 20 people with a 5% advantage in stats. yeah. but it’s gonne be more than 5 when the armor comes in.

is anyone else really concerned about ascended stats snowball when the armor comes out? i bought this game for hardcore pvp/WvW, it’s all that ive been doing, and im very concerned. this new level of grind will be introduced, fine. but will we get the opportunity to get the armor in WvW from killing people and taking objectives?

stats difference between exo and ascended will be significant…if it’s significant enough, i dont see myself playing this game in the future unless all the ascended gear is accessible through pvp in some way.

necros absolutely can stay in melee. if you want to die a horrible death. if you want to own, you’ll kite and nuke from range. dagger isnt a bad dueling or pve weapon, but axe is vastly superior otherwise.

im not here to hijack the thread with my “valk build” so i’ll just end it with this post. there are a few misconceptions im going to address:

- best type of damage mitigation is downing somebody instantly or in seconds; when youre in an organized group of people, offense is the best defense. as the numbers piles up, attrition becomes less and less effective. when your group is doing more “instant damage”, you dont have to worry much about sustain

- stats for a proper valk/zerker build with buffs are: 2600 power, 50% crit chance out of DS, 23-26k HP, LF pool 20k, 95-100% crit damage, and about 1k toughness; crit chance in DS is 100%. aoe damage is something like 20k over 5 seconds with wells and life transfer, but more importantly for skirmishing is your life blast which you can snipe people with. tanky heavies are hit for about 4k per blast so guards go down really fast; glass thieves are mesmers are usually 3-shot at worst. out of DS, staff 3 and 4 hit for 3-4k aoe, and axe/focus can burn down any boon-heavy scrub in under 10 seconds if they decide to stick around.

- getting PVT or knights is really a waste because you rob yourself of that sweet 100% crit damage. you dont need all that survivability if youre in a good group. for GvG or GvZ it’s a crime to equip PVT/knights on the necro, unless youre brand new to the game. u just need high HP and LF. LF bar fills up very quickly as you down more people. with coordination, kills = limitless LF.

- you’re more mobile. youre not sticking around to build up condis on someone. you can nuke while moving, or nuke then move. mobility on its own is worth the 600 toughness difference between builds.

so in summary, attrition play doesnt work against a higher number of competent opponents. what works is mobility, high burst and the accompanying element of surprise. i did play a rabid necro for a long time, but it’s very difficult for me to go back, at least in gold league, unless we’re doing duels or something like 2v5 for example.

I hate it because it’s one of the primary reasons our class is slowly getting hacked to pieces. Right up until this dhumbfire came out, we weren’t in a bad spot. Now thanks to this one trait, it’s affecting more than just the problem build in a chain reaction just in an effort to keep it from being op.

We don’t want it. Get rid of it.

this, get rid of it. the terror nerf and subsequent bleed nerfs to make dhuum less OP is just dumb. how about we start recognizing what the real problem is?

I have watched your video with a lot of curiosity… i was suspecting something and i was correct…

I have seen you time and time again surviving people ganking up on you, via plague or teleport or even getting res by your team… and my final word on the matter is this:

You have outskilled all those who have failed to kill you, they in fact were quite bad… significantly bad…
For me this video does not prove that necromancer can survive focus fire, it proves that you can survive focus fire if you heavily outskill your opponents + have help…

Regardless… you play well, and congratulations for that… just that it is not the class that carries you, it is you… who carry the class.

ps: just to prove my point a bit more… i am willing to demonstrate at any time that, even though you survived 4-5 players at a time… you won’t be able to survive me + 1 friend of mine, you would be dead in under 30 seconds… hell… i solo other necromancers faster, but i am coming from the idea that you are not “other necromancers”, you are a skilled necromancer + your premise of surviving focus fire… therefor +1 on my team.

I am not saying you are bad, on the contrary i am saying you are a good player… yet it is the class that pulls you down, you would do more if you could… but you simply can’t…

this is only an issue with the way you guys play the necro (dire/rabid, condis). valk power necros actually have more survivability. u have the exact same capacity to survive burst, except youre cranking out 6k lifeblast crits, and doing upwards of 20k aoe damage over 5 seconds. downing people quickly gives you more survivability than “attrition play”. mind you, it’s a team build. and admittedly, condition play has a much higher skill ceiling and is more appropriate for tiny fights (2v2, 3v3). but i will always invite or bring a valk necro to an organized fight (lets say 5+ players on each side) over a conditionmancer. most of rennoko’s situations would have ended very quickly and horribly for the other team if rennoko was in fact a valk necro accompanied by those guards.

i hate dhuum because i feel torment is a much better suited condi for the necro, and fire just doesnt go with the theme. at all. id love to be able to stack 3x torment on crit. it makes perfect sense because necros survive through kiting more than any other prof, and would actually be much less OP. in addition, you would punish people for moving toward you, which adds more strategy to the game (do i chase and take more damage, or do i wait it out and let him gain some distance?)

i think u could improve a bit on using/timing your doom. u missed a few =P

do you have weakening shroud? i find that trait to be most useful for when youre getting trained.

but yea, echoing what others are saying…this is why when leading a havoc group, i always primary the necro. damage output is insane, but it’s very well balanced by the fact that once you force him to pop all his CD’s, there’s no way out. you will drop a lot, and depend on the coordination of your teammates for a fast rez.

axe/focus is one of the deadliest skill combos in the game. spinal shivers + axe 3 is basically another corrupt boon and will annihlate any warrior/guard/engie/dd ele when timed well. reaper’s touch + axe 1 can easily stack 20 vuln on a single target in seconds. you can epi that for fun. axe 2 with 2k+ power and 100% crit damage is used for spiking tough targets down.

if you guys want to fix a weapon, you should seriously use your talents to buff warhorn, arguably the most useless skill-set in the game.

Absolutely. With 15 points in curses the 20% bump makes it easy to proc. Also, its 100% on crit, so any one crit an do it from any attack source.

I’ll make it fair so that you can snipe me too. I was the baddie necro in profane armour; we got into a DS auto attack showdown. I don’t know if you remember… I hope I was gentle but it’s hard not to be heavy-handed in zerker gear!

i feel dirty spamming 6.5k LB crits on people from 1200 on my valk necro. yes one can be an awesome duelist, but a powermancer can ruin anyone’s day if not focused and cc’d hard.

we engage in frequent small gang skirmishes (in addition to zerg-busting ops), so spvp skills are a huge asset. we have a number of GvG/GvZ veterans, and are in the process of rebuilding our roster. if you’re a pvp’er looking to get involved in organized WvW warfare, we can help you get started.

- dedicated pvp’er*
- communication
- no drama or excessive ego; when we dive a 60-man BG zerg, and happen to wipe, we dont care for those who sob about it. bags must and will rain.

having a blast running with all the jq oldschoolers. two things we’re looking for: dedicated players, and no drama. we’re very active and friendly.

or get a cleric guard. burst heal and cleanse output is quite a bit larger, except you’re mobile, provide perma prot/swiftness/regen and up to 15s of stability, and dont need water field setup or to waste blast finishers. recent Healing Breeze buff has only made the spec more awesome. Cleric Guard heal/boonbots have existed for well over a year, but very few guilds know how to maximize the spec.

just to give you an idea, the numbers on my cleric guard look something like: 3300, 3300, 3500, 3500, 1800, 1800, 1800, 1500, and 4200 healing breeze , over about 6 seconds on each person, plus constant 320 ticks of regen. not to mention 4.4k healing/sec when i pop my ToC. u dont bring the cleric guard just for heals. i can quickly stack 21 might, cleanse about 15 condis over 3 seconds from each person, and pop other boons if needed. this is all coming from just one guard while on the run.

water field blasting by an organized melee train is superior for its burst heals, but you 1) have to set it up, 2) require a critical mass of frontliners (at least 10), and 3) have to use up your blast finisher. in organized fights, guilds get smashed on the regroup when trying to pull this maneuver off.

How are you calculating this?

hey, glad you asked. these numbers are from my cleric guard who has 1600 healing power with full stacks

3300 – Virtue of Resolve (twice with Renewed Focus)
3500 – this is what you get from Empowering Might (Staff 4) and Merciful Intervention
1800 – this is what you get from your dodge rolls
1500 – this is from detonating shield #5 or staff #2
4200 – this is the 3s channel from Healing Breeze

2100 is from spamming +1 in ToC every half second. comes to 4200HPS.

without popping ToC, i can usually heal a group of heavies from 0 to 20k HP in about 6-8 seconds. it’s definitely not instant, but it’s the best mobile heals you can get. guard burst heal is something like 10-15k if youre quick (to each target including yourself, meaning 5x). and you dont need any blast finishers =P

this makes a huge difference if your group is strong. but if you’re healing a bunch of scrubs who are just gonna tank their HP soon after, then you might as well not.

I can’t stand the cone. If you’re in melee and attacking a monster, you have to deselect the monster, face an ally you want to heal, and then use it. It’s extremely clunky. IMO it should be omnidirectional, and making it a consecration sounds like an even better idea. Drop it on the ground like that Necromancer healing well. That would be neato.

…. You seriously have to de-select the monster? Last I remember using it I just turned my Guardian to face my allies and hit Healing Breeze. I never had to select an ally to use it or de-select the monster we were fighting. That sounds like you need to toggle your auto-targeting sort of game options.

Try hitting allies in pvp with it. Very difficult. And for pve is a annoyance. There is a reason why not many people use it and hint its not because they don’t know what they are doing.

wrong. it’s because they dont know what theyre doing. HB is powerful if you’re cleric. face allies, spam 4.2k heals.

December 10th Ranger changes

LR is a solid skill , but it does not break immob , cripple or chilled . Ranger has poor other defensive options be it block , invlunerability or stealth . Ranger has no built in sustain ala warrior healing sig + adrenal health . The only thing going for us was our natural vigor that allowed us to dodge more .

To get invulnerability you need 30 into MM for signet trait , or you use protect me which will most likely kill the pet in pvp or wvw . To get sustain you need to actually build for healing power , unlike warriors who get 600 hp/sec from just putting on healing signet and 15 into defense . To top it all off our burst is pretty meh , and due to how pet burst was also nuked , we rely on damage over time , which again puts us into a bunkerish role .

i’ll play my guard, then the necro for a while in wvw. i feel great. then i hop on my ranger, and i wanna cry. your analysis reminds me of why i want to cry.

just to give you an idea, the numbers on my cleric guard look something like: 3300, 3300, 3500, 3500, 1800, 1800, 1800, 1500, and 4200 healing breeze , over about 6 seconds on each person, plus constant 320 ticks of regen. not to mention 4.4k healing/sec when i pop my ToC. u dont bring the cleric guard just for heals. i can quickly stack 21 might, cleanse about 15 condis over 3 seconds from each person, and pop other boons if needed. this is all coming from just one guard while on the run.

water field blasting by an organized melee train is superior for its burst heals, but you 1) have to set it up, 2) require a critical mass of frontliners (at least 10), and 3) have to use up your blast finisher. in organized fights, guilds get smashed on the regroup when trying to pull this maneuver off.
