Takes at least another year until they realise family feedback is kitten and test servers for real input have to be implemented. Quitting this game was the best decision. Saves alot of dissapointment.

this! quitting gw2 was definitely the best “gaming” decision i ever made. im having a blast playing other games and i have zero desire to come back to this trainwreck. wont be coming back until we get some new devs who actually play pvp at a higher level.

thats the problem. it’s not worth taking this. that’s what everyone was saying when the patch notes leaked. ranger utilities are pathetic. if take anything other than signets and muddy terrain, you’re gimping your survivability and utility. we never needed the reveal debuff to kill thieves. we have tons of immobilize and hard CC for this.

Yeah this is rather deluding.The brown bear skill is a nerf or a buff, what did it do before?

They just doubled its effectiveness. its still bad

because the bear does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING else. no dps, no CC, nothing. it just has this F2, which is basically useless in the condi heavy meta.

it’s not bad, but i still prefer purging flames with two shouts. my guard is specced for 90% boon duration anyway, so another 20% is kinda superfluous. 14 seconds of stability with VoC and SYG on a low CD is more than enough. so i still dont see a reason to use HG in my support build.

Your allies might not have boon duration.

they dont, but i can hand out just about every boon in the game on a low cooldown. protection, stability, regen, swiftness, aegis, might. when i apply my boons to others, they benefit from the long duration as well.

what blew my mind when i was tinkering with a spirit support ranger 6 months ago was that my boon duration did not apply to my group. so spirit of stone proc did not give them MY protection of 6 seconds. this made me drop the spirit ranger in wvw forever. the only boons we can perma give to others are regen, swiftness and fury, arguably the least useful boons in the game.

it’s not terrible, but as a ranger you’ll always be a waste of space on organized teams, i.e. GvZ or GvG, in comparison to other professions.

these big balance patches are always a joke though. we keep hoping and giving them chances, and hoping and hoping. but im happy to say that i definitely saw this one coming and did not reinstall the game. been gone for about a month now and likely wont ever come back to gw2 as im busy playing better PVP games. i might come back if they employ some devs who actually play their game and know what’s going on in pvp.

i have 75% boon duration, 38% crit dmg, 60% crit chance, 1600power, 1200condition dmg, 600 healing power, 50% condition duration, 3 combo fields.on top 2900 armor an 20k hp + massive evade and easy 14sec protection uptime. when i ask my guild what class i should bring, warrior, guardian or ranger they always say ranger. for small scale wvw fights ( 3-10 ppl is our group size ) it is the stongest dmg/support compromise in gw2 for wvw.

so you basically cant do anything well? sounds like a terrible build man.

Warhorn is actually pretty good with a sigil of earth due to 16 rapid attacks…

But ya expect the warrior and guardian calls from wvw commanders to continue. Guardians just got huge insane buffs to hallowed ground and another ability. They give +20% boon duration while in hallowed ground and – condition duration aoe somewhere else. If you’re a guardian, you should be loving this patch already.

my cleric support guardian is basically going backflips right now. i can cleanse 12 conditions in an AOE from myself and 4 other people (used to be only 9) while outputting close to 20k aoe heals over a few seconds.

1k heal, 1.3k with traits, it’s AoE, it supposedly also gives regen still, that’s A LOT of healing especially since our heal skills are short CD too

and i would use this over an aoe immobilize or fear why? 1k heal for a 2s long cast (lol) is terrible.

very, very underwhelming. fern hound heal will not make me use the pet. while increased HP for spirits will be nice for WvW, spirit buffs and actives still suck.

i like the upcoming MT fix. hoping for some good changes on ranger weapons.

barrage needs to immobilize with first wave of arrows so that it secures kills every now and then, and allows cripple to stack in duration a little bit. cast time needs to be halved.

no viability, none. not if you want to be taken seriously. whenever youre evading, youre not doing any damage or benefiting your teammates in any way. in the condition heavy meta, your evades do nothing against the ubiquitous burning. you can do like s/d with a condi bunker build and have 3 evades, but this is only good for dueling 1 or max two people at a time.

it’s very easy to integrate GvG into WvW and the PPT game. it would be nice if players were asked to give some ideas if the devs arent sure where to go.

GvG is basically the WvW endgame. it was invented by WvW’ers to improve retention and give their guilds a PURPOSE. it would be very foolish to ignore GvG and its popularity, and to not expand on it.

The Ranger core is strong.

this is where you’re wrong. it’s the CORE that’s rotten, with a few useful things on the “outside.” things like OH axe 4, muddy terrain + entangle, HS, wolf fear. a couple of neat things, kind of all over the place. but overall, there is absolutely no foundation to the profession mostly because our mechanic is insufficient and broken overall. on top of that, the ranger has no burst and arguably the worst survivability in WvW.

oct 15 patch might entice me to come back, depending on how good the support revamp will be. i always wanted to play my ranger as support anyway. hoping to see Barrage and Whirling Defense buffs. the leaked changes are excellent, but definitely not sufficient.

ive been away from the game for weeks now. hoping these guys will do something interesting with this mess of a profession.

this class is terrible because they have no vision with it. main issues:

1. prof mechanic is fundamentally broken, unresponsive, boring
2. no burst damage
3. most conditions require melee-600 range to apply
4. disgustingly bad utility skills
5. few if any effective disengage abilities

other than having access to several aoe immobilizes and a water field, the ranger does nothing better or different compared to other profs.

condi rangers cant roam. no target drops, no real escapes. more than 3 competent players get on you and ure done. cant really “roam” without GS and a bunch of stun breakers. best roaming build is probably LB/GS themed because u have spammable target drop and a disengage.

i think u guys are confusing roaming with dueling. rangers are great at dueling.

sword disengage is much stronger than gs, its not so easy but if you know how to deal with it a far better option

me hitting 2.5-4k dps from 1500 is more than anything a condi ranger can contribute to a small gang scenario in the current meta. i played condi bunker and made guides about it before it was cool. all i see is these guys getting gang banged by engies, warriors and thieves. as i said, good spec for dueling, one of the top. but you cant bunker 3 good players with S/D for longer than 10 seconds. that’s a fact. in small gangs, ure the the only one with one leg and no target drops. any experienced ranger who spent a lot of time with condi/regen bunkering will tell you this.

What would you guys consider to be minimum crit chance for a power oriented roaming ranger?

45-50% without fury, 80-100% crit damage, 2200 power without food or stacks. rest doesnt really matter. just stay at 1500 and pick your targets, keep range. LB/GS is a high mobility high risk setup that has a pretty high skill ceiling. imo, it’s the best the ranger can offer in current stun/condi/mobility heavy meta.

Honestly after all the ascended crap, lag, blow out matches, bloodlust, commander garbage, and much much more I can’t see WvW making a comeback. By the end of this first season many new games and consoles for that matter will be out leaving a big question: what are the devs doing to maintain their player base?

took me a while to realize it, but when looking at Reddit posts to gauge public interest, the resources that have gone into PVE fluff and other content, and the lack of WvW and spvp content (we’re 14 months in guys), i cant help but conclude that GW2 is a PVE-centric game. soon enough, new weapon skills and utilities will be introduced, yet dozens of traits and utilities are broken or utterly useless.

i make this post in the spvp forum because this was supposed to be a big pvp game, so what gives? why am i playing real pvp titles like EVE, dota2 and soon bf4, instead of this? i pretty much exclusively pvp in gw2 (WvW and spvp) but nothing is holding my interest lately so i find myself barely logging in.

Problem is long cds on signets. Warrior and guard shouts all mostly 30s or less and they heal, stun break and/or give boons. The other issue is these guys can spec for survivability while still doing lots of damage. Not the case for the ranger.

hey im running a similar build with valk/knights/zerker gear and assassin weapons. i ditched offensive signets, just use SoH for mobility. LR, QZ and RaO. i use 1500 range for the LB and basically try not to get hit. keep range on everyone at all costs. range is your tank. whipping out 3.5k autoattacks from 1500 is amazing fun. just dont get caught… GS and reduced GS cd’s are necessary i find. with LB, either go all the way, or ditch it. PVT type stuff is really underwhelming, but i run that too at times.

Im offering a solution. Nerf pet dps so they’re nothing more than a small dot, greatly buff utility and survivability, and give each pet another active ability that we can use on demand. All problems solved.

you can run as many players as you want in WvW. The only point should be whether or not a build makes a difference, not how it compares to other builds.

even though it does AoE crowd control even better then the Necromancer? I don’t understand that..

I don’t see how anyone can categorise that as being “soft”. Especially considering that this is just caused by one Ranger, imagine three Rangers doing this..

Necros are more reliable sources of chill and cripple because they can spam scepter 2 and staff 3. Necros also have an aoe fear and immobilize on 30s cds. Unlike rangers, necros bring huge aoe dps. So in wvw, nobody will ask for a pack of rangers instead.

Soft cc is not a subjective thing. It means the affected player only loses control of character partially, as opposed to totally like with, fear kb or stun. The only soft cc that reliably secures kills is immobilize because it disables dodge rolling. This is why it’s important to use point blank shot and axe 4 when running a support/utility ranger. In addition to entangle and mt of course.

My issues with the build:
- no survivability
- no hard cc
- insignificant damage

If someone gets annoyed enough by the traps they’ll swat u like a fly. No invuln, no stability, no stun breaker. And you’re doing all your work from 600 range! Do I really have to keep arguing why this build only works in your head? This kind of build is what we call a free rally as it actually helps the enemy.

zerg busting works by:
- hard cc
- high sustain
- high aoe damage

Trap bombing has been around since beta really so this build isnt something that was missed by thousands of players. Zergs have also been around since release so there’s a reason this kind of build isnt part of any meta new or old. You’re gonna have to put up a vid demonstrating the build’s efficacy against a solid group of wvwers who know what theyre doing, and then we can discuss new meta.

Let’s say that if someone loves it is very likely that he/she is in T1. I cannot possibly find serious WvW players, not in t1, who really like this patch.

fully agreed with most things. i have to say LB is a very decent weapon at the 1500 range, and would be perfect at 1800 if traited.

SB could stay at 900 if they actually buffed it meaningfully. it needs more evades, more burst, and easier condi application. it’s a pathetic weapon right now. it needs to be a skirmishing weapon.

i like 1200 offhands and swoop. but youre right, 1200 offhand range doesnt really make sense. like i could really throw my torch as far as i can shoot my arrow…lmao

i think they’ll be tweaking our weapon numbers a lot for the oct. 15 patch.

well i ran various ranger builds on and off for months in a top tier gvz/gvg guild. there is a reason i kept going back to my guard and necro. guard could give perma boons and heals, necro could output about 20k aoe dmg in seconds. i am not sure what kind of experiences you’ve had, but obviously theyre not in line with mine. you and chopps keep shoving traps down our throats but they really dont do ENOUGH outside of small skirms.

large zerg encounters used to be all about earth shaker stuns until people started running perma stable guard and necro trains. if anyone cares, the meta currently is stability, massive condi clears, and power wellmancers. has been for a while. in gvg, glass builds have a role in backline pressure, and this is where the ranger could contribute. but you cant bring JUST traps without survivability and dps.

so yeah i could roll my ranger and spam a few aoe chill and immobilize, but im doing pitiful damage. damage and well-timed hard cc is what downs people. MT and Entangle combined with Path of Scars and Point Blank Shot bring a ton of hard and soft CC to the table. the 1 second of immob from spike and a second or two of chill from frost (if people dont roll throught it) are insignificant.

the best experience ive had was with a hybrid PVT or sentinel build (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Sentinel-Frontliner-Next-Level-WvW-Ranger/first#post2714708), more specifically the dps version of the build. it brings CC, damage AND survivability to the table. Godspeed from Red Guard ran a very similar build, but mine is better.

PS if you look in my earlier vid at the 10:30 mark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7uWpEfrhKE) i demonstrate an effective trap bombing build thats kind of tanky. mostly apothecary gear. id make a lot of changes to it now, but it just doesnt belong in the current meta where skirmishers hit very hard and evade as much as they want (thieves, gs/mace/shield warriors, mesmers, condi engies), or just run in trains (guard, necro).

with -65% condi duration on all frontliners, or 3 condis cleared PER shout by guards (soldier runes), im afraid immobilize/chill/cripple bombs are virtually shrugged off. even the best condi stacking necro specs arent really viable for taking down guard-heavy melee trains. im afraid the ranger cant teach the necro anything.

if timed well, MT + entangle can secure a couple of kills, but thats pretty much all we have to offer (and water field).

well if hotjoin was anything like the new BL’s, id go! the ruins offer incredible terrain cover, high ground advantage, water combat, all in one map. and due to the way gear works, wvw has more viable builds compared to spvp.

they basically took our major complaint “wvw is all mindless zerg” and SOLVED it. BL’s are no longer zergy. theyre a big playground for roaming gangs. well done i say.

as sacrx explained in his vid, there’s basically nothing they can do about skill lag and overall lag in WvW. problem is with server load and game engine, both of which cant be changed or improved. this is basically it guys.

months ago i ran a build dedicated to aoe CC. issue is it’s all SOFT CC. none of it actually disables the target so the effect is rather underwhelming.

yea this is huge. will basically fix pet survivability issues in wvw and pve. if f2’s are buffed and more responsive, we might be in a pretty good shape. id prefer it if pets also received a flat 30% aoe damage reduction.

and apparently, they do have a programmer working on pet responsiveness, according to the latest SOTG.

not sure what to say about stomping and ppt, but the addition of new terrain in BL’s has buffed my LB ranger hugely. we can now use pillars for cover, canals for escape, high ground to rain death from 1500. i no longer have to beat my head against the wall to think of how to make my LB ranger viable

muddy terrain will be very strong when fixed (to hit 5 targets instead of 3). id prefer it pulses vulnerability as well. thing is, i hate cripple as a condi, it’s very weak. i’d prefer it gets merged with another condi, or buffed in some way.

true about the pet, but HP is getting massively buffed next patch.

um id recommend running backline pressure. you wouldnt be with the melee train. your purpose would be aoe immobilize spam via MT and entangle, and aggressive HS placement. focus squishies with LB.

Lol I haven’t lost a pet to alpha in months and I play coe all the time. I love using me some sword on some alpha.

yea i run the might stacking sword build. i actually use cats and they rarely die to alpha. sword with 100% crit dmg is some of the highest dps u can get in dungeons. 3-4k dps i believe, if not higher.

thanks for optimizing that. but crit is a little low and i lose 10% damage from scholar runes (my health is often above 90…if it’s less than that, chances are im in trouble). the swap to sentinel GS and energy sigil is mostly for defense. i’ll test out a zerker GS but it’s quite suicidal with such low toughness.

you CAN zerg it, but it’s ineffective. leaves the rest of the map open for taking, and little squads can take the points right back.
