2) There are multiple ways to get Ascended weapons. You can craft them, or get them from drops, or from WvW Rank chests. Just because you’re not lucky enough to get an Ascended chest drop, doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

I count drops from chest as drops, and like I said the drop rate is so small that it EFFECTIVELY doesn’t count as an alternative. Its probably so small that someone could literally play for thousands of hours and still not get 1 drop.

Just this: if you play a certain build it requires certain stats to be effective. If you just want to play differently you have to kittenING CRAFT ANOTHER kittenING SET OF ASCENDED AND FARM THE kittenING TRINKETS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. This is one of the issues, anet tried to break the mold with GW2 when they perceived it as failing they panicked and fell back on out of date techniques maybe because they have little experience with actual mmos. They’ve had close to a year to come up with something better for ascended weapons and gear and they can’t.

I’ll ask this here given that the interview talks about ascended weapons but I doubt I’ll get a response.

Chris W made 2 statements when ascended items were introduced: that there would be zero grind associated with acquisition; and multiple ways of getting them. How can these statements be reconciled with the grindy nature of obtaining mats to make ascended weapons and that there is effectively only 1 way of getting them (given the drop rate is absolutely miniscule)?

There are 4 maps. The goal is to get enough people to fill those maps. Blackgate did that better than the rest. It isn’t like we can put more people on the map than the other servers. People calling blackgate overstacked are just using it as a way to smear that server. You shouldn’t be such a sore looser.

Your arguments over the manifesto won’t work here given this is a statement made after the game had launched when they introduced ascended items and is crystal clear about no grind. Its kitten ing IMHO especially when combined with the statement about multiple ways of obtaining ascended items which has effectively not even been true since the introduction of ascended accessories (given extremely low drop rate and ludicrous alternate pricing). I didn’t remember Chris W had made this statement and thank the OP for bringing it up.

Well you must have saved up all the mats throughout a year of playing then because I try and farm as many of the mats I can and it is a grind.

Like the model or not, Anet really does not have a choice with the direction they have chosen (no monthly fees, no current expansions for sale) but to continue to provide content that promotes logging in EVERY day to pursue in game player goals. Good or bad, the plan seems to be working (for now, at least).

They have the fortnightly content updates to keep people playing.

I’m waiting for that other game (and CU beyond that) because to me anet put too little into WvW and its simply too casual. In the other game its far more central to the game as a whole and the designers have more experience with this type of game mode.

Only not, the alt unfriendliness is due to the time gating on 2 critical components. I don’t see how this is so hard to understand. The fact that the process is faster than the time gating in relation to trinkets does not make either right.

And given that you can collect enough mats for the ingots and the wood to make 1 per day along with the time gated components on 1 character means the fact that you can collect the components on more than 1 character irrelevant.

To settle a few things straight, I am an oceanic commander as in my primetime is in GMT+10 (Brisbane, primetime starts at midnight PST which is four hours before SEA starts); during oceanic primetime after lorthos quit and SoR was unable to field their large oceanic zergs we would often as not get a ridiculous ppt into the 460+ range. JQ was largely a non-factor at that time due to its lack of oceanic guilds (0000-0400 PST) where the meta was to PvD JQs assets before SoR did it first. Oceanic is the first timezone to die in world PvP games, as it did in Warhammer before GW2 – and I’d say that competitive oceanic T1 WvW died with lorthos quitting.

Last time I bought some for salvage there wasn’t a single exotic item that could be salvaged on the TP for less than 1g 15s. Given that I had to buy 15 IIRC just to get the 6 globs of dark matter I needed I would hardly call them cheap.

I do a selection of these every day and am lucky to get 1 exotic per week.

On dark matter my returns have been generally pretty bad, around 0.6. I think there’s a definite argument to be had about reducing the variance on the results of salvaging exotics for dark matter.

Demoralized refers to your overall WvW participation. Your “hardcore” daily WvW guild will be out there every day, we know that and those people are respected for it. It’s the fair weather population that becomes the issue. The difference is that BG has its 25-30 man guild group and 30-40 pugs with them because they are doing well VS. SoRs 25 man guild group and no pugs because you’re not doing well. From where we’re standing it looks like SoR stopped showing up and is demoralized.

Thats fine but just don’t rewrite history to say it hasn’t happened to BG when it clearly has on multiple occasions since I’ve been playing against them.

Yep, some of us have said this is a situation that must be addressed. Methods of obtaining lower level cloth etc. must be more reliable.

However on the off chance that this is how they plan to introduce precursor crafting eventually, so………… they are going help the RNG problems inherent in trying to get a precursor by introducing more RNG with its recipe! Seriously! Anet please stop relying on RNG.

The recipe drop rate would have to be far more common than the actual precursor drop rate for this to be a good thing.

Yep, this is ridiculous, if they can do it for fractals they can do it for WXP. Fractals are PvE where there is much more reason for there to be character progression.

In the first CDI topic, it really felt like there was little meaningful interaction and discussion with the developers. Instead it was the developers giving players topics and asking that they talk about it. In the cases where there was interaction, it was often in the form of “This is how we’re doing things. Period.” This isn’t just something that can be solved by the developers having more time to post. Instead it’s something that requires a shift to more openness amongst the development team.

Sorry but I can’t help thinking that you’re changing the process and avoiding the difficult topics. The first topics (for WvW and PvE at least) were basically gimmes, not really difficult topics to address. The topics that I remember that may have been coming next ie. RNG, reward systems, account bound world xp were always liable to cause massive QQ.

I think that instead of limiting the TP, we should first look at limiting DR and increasing reward-based gameplay. I only reverted to the TP when I saw that the more I played, the less the game rewarded me. That’s bad;

I’m someone who has been critical of the TP and I would heartily agree with this statement. There can be no doubt that the main game is the rpg/adventure game and the rewards should reflect this.

Then to not receive a Permanent and Unique reward. A stack of colored Dolyaks which have a limit and a time until the next season is a slap in the face. 2 Years from now during Season 10, who will know where a player placed in an effort to help their server to glory?

Yet I can finish any PvE meta in a day and I get perma-skins, titles and much more. Who knew Emissary of the Mad King and Apprentice Toymaker were cool titles now.?

Its actually at least 10%.

With asc armor the actual stats may not be that much of an advantage I would think the greatest advantage is going to be in the increase in base armor values.
