And you’re not understanding that Ascended gear is BiS, and isn’t meant to be gotten quickly, easily, or cheaply.
In the game I bought it was and that was the intention.
How do you get these recipes?
I completely understand OP about the high amount of laurels needed for people with a lot of alts. I have 5 lvl 80s and plan on equipping at least three of those 80s with ascended armors. That being said, we all just need to learn to wait and enjoy the progress while we wait. If we get everything in less than a week, we would be bored and complaining for more things soon enough.
Nope not if the actual living world content was good enough. To paraphrase a post I made a while ago my best time in the game was early this year before world XP was introduced in WvW and when the events in Orr hadn’t been nerfed. I had karma to outfit my l80s, I was easily able to experiment builds and easily gear up for new builds and just play and experiment to my hearts content.
I had to make sure I did dailies and monthlies for laurels but whilst they were something of a job it wasn’t that bad. I was able to use some mats to make some vanity weapons like abyssal scepter and the anomaly.
Now I have to do dailies and monthlies, I have to do my daily ascended crafting, I have to make sure I mine my quartz and convert it to charged quartz, I have to farm for mats required for ascended crafting in Orr and other areas or grind for gold to buy them. I’m restricted in the builds I can experiment with cause BiS is so hard to get.
Everything is a job or we’re restricted from playing how we want, and anet aren’t learning

Stop thinking that your overly dedicated behavior deserves to be rewarded. Just because Anet allows for more than one character slot doesn’t mean you have to use them. You’re the one creating this burden for yourself, not Anet.
Playing on alts means variety which leads to players staying in the game longer. So anet is just shooting themselves in the foot here.

I prepared for this update with so much anticipation, had materials to level 2 armor crafting professions to 500. But suddenly I check the cost of the recipes and is 5 laurels + 3 gold for EACH piece of armor, this is too much Anet…
This is absurd, it should be 5 laurels per armor SET. Just ridiculous.
I do craft them because I have no choice, that doesn’t mean I support the lack of options.

I don’t get them in raids so it isn’t an option ergo there is only 1 option and no choice. And I’m not dodging anything I am being upfront in saying IMHO the miniscule drop rate of ascended gear renders that no option at all. You’re free to have your own opinion but nothing that has been said persuades me otherwise.
I think its pretty elitist. Ive seen it a few times and all it does is scare people from going in WvW. If guilds don’t allow pugs to follow then how will they learn? They’ll be deprived of knowing how to run. Training pugs really helps your server more than telling them not to join even if you do win more fights.
100% spot on especially when there are no other commanders or guild groups on the BL.
Causic most guilds on Piken do run untagged for closed guild events, but we always have one tagged commander on map for the friendlies.
IMHO thats fine but I’ve seen too often guilds running tagless when there is no other commander on the map, on EB even which is where pugs often gravitate to.
Guilds dont want rally bait to follow them.

OP, if you want the type of stuff to stop, you should be asking for fixes to the downed/rally systems.
No the guilds should be teaching their server mates better so they aren’t rally bait.
Ascended weapon chests drops fairly often I’d say in FotM. I got one with Cavalier stats, and a Dire stat from Teq. And I’ve seen guildies get them in WvW.
I have not had 1 drop, and no its not for lack of trying whether it be killing teq many many times, or other world bosses etc etc. My guildies have hardly had any drop either, so no they don’t drop fairly often.
Again, what are you willing to do for an Ascended because apparently, crafting and raiding are unreasonable?
I do craft them because I have no choice, that doesn’t mean I support the lack of options.
get yer guild group supply from camps your guild group captures and stay out of the server wvw resources if you don’t intend to help your server.
killing enemy players does not count as helping your server anymore?
I ask because most guild only runs are for this purpose.
Harnessing the militia properly will lead to greater enemy deaths therefore yes it helps your server more.
I’m sure there’s a commander in your neighborhood who can make you a better player for the glory of the server etc. (you know the usual community stuff)
This doesn’t necessarily follow, say in less populous timezones.
ESO turned me and many other people I know off by announcing that it will launch on consoles. The fact is that the game will ultimately be dumbed way down in order to accommodate that. That alone made it fail imo.
The only think that might indicate that is the limited action set yet GW2 and WS also both have limited action sets.

It’s as reasonable an assumption as suggesting to make crafting unnecessary. My problem with these threads is this … the option of raiding to get an ascended weapon is inline with crafting it, yet you are saying it’s not an option to raid for one and you don’t want to craft to get it.
To repeat raiding is not an effective option because the chance of dropping is clearly miniscule and there’s no other system to make up for it (like a token system) as all other mmos have. We are asking for reasonable options not free stuff.
Exactly. Every time a post like this pops up, it’s always someone saying that their favorite style of play is not the play style that gets them what they want, so it should be changed. It’s unreasonable. A system was set in place to achieve a reward. If you don’t want to participate in the system, you don’t get the reward.
Its BiS weapons not just a reward. Plus as I said we were guaranteed multiple options by the devs, something which they’ve paid lip service to.

I personally feel that the video and the Blackgate WvW players are being misinterpreted.
Perhaps but any celebrations on the public forum are likely to be viewed as chest thumping by others. BG players have pilloried SOR players in the past for chest thumping when we’ve simply celebrated a victory for example.
There is weirdness which is kind of a rivalry between TC and SoS because a major guild left TC and joined SoS. We in TC can’t help enjoying killing anyone we find from that guild, but it is bittersweet because we thought they were our friends. Lot of suspicion about spies and uneasiness when TC and SoS are matched up now.
So EP haven’t transferred back to TC with the end of the league?
Therefore the question is: is such behaviour considered ok in GW2? Can you spam “do not join us include random insults”? Is it ok to ignore fellow players who are on your own side obviously not being random bots farming mobs?
Not IMHO unless there is a militia commander on the map. It is best for the server and the game mode for militia to have someone to follow.
You seem to be not understanding a fundamental aspect of the game. There are lots of gear choices because nothing in the game is limited by what gear you have. Full exotics is more than sufficient for everything.
Not if you come up against someone in ascended gear in WvW. Not for high level fractals.
Plus Chris Whiteside said there would be multiple sources for ascended items, I’m holding him to that, and as I said having drops from certain events/bosses with a miniscule chance of dropping is no alternative source at all.
Than for ESO, this is just as bad. Sub requirement was annouced (I do not know the numbers for this one) but the issue here is different. They are taking a game that became famous for their single player RPG aspect and doing it MMO style. To me, this just isnt an elder scrolls game.
But it is very much an elder scrolls game, arguably too much of an elder scrolls game and not enough of an mmo.

Unless you have some numbers to back that up, it’s subjective. The fact is that you DO have choices in this game for gear, LOTS of them.
Lots of choices for ascended weapons? Nope only 2 1 of which is effectively no alternative at all, and from all reports armor will be the same.
Ascended weapon chests drop in WvW rank ups and FotM levels. It is RNG but hey, it’s essentially free if you do either of those. So no, crafting to 500 is NOT necessary.
The drop rate for these appears to verge on precursor levels so no its not a reasonable alternative. Its so low that its no alternative at all.
IRON was also the first dedicated guild to move to NA bracket, RG came later and only stayed for a few weeks.
I don’t believe this is true. I remember fighting against VoTF long before IRON arrived.
VOTF moved to SoS from Eu around January, and then moved back when Merc moved to BG.
ZD’s should be form the start of the video to the end. the only reason why you won.
That would be too embarrassing for ZD if their non edited out video showing them zergblobbing everyone…

Beautiful video that was really well executed, however being in a different tier, I have to ask: is it really that impressive that you won Gold?
Any win is built purely on coverage so no, except for the way they managed to harness their PvE population.
SoR had a choice to fight harder or give up, a number did fight harder but a lot also gave up and used ZD as an excuse
If you don’t like people talking crap about BG then it seems hypocritical to make statements about other servers of which you clearly have no idea.

The total stat gain is going to be less than a food buff for a whole set of armor. Get off your soap box and go click your mouse a few extra times. Get over it.
The gain from existing ascended items is ~10%. Now add asc armor on top of that…….. SO you have that gain and food buffs on top of that.
Crafting is boring for a large amount of the player base and its not just the actual act of crafting the weapon once you get all the materials its the crafting to get to 500.
has anyone noticed how bad ascended gear synergizes with GW2 build flexibility?
Of course its one of the major argument against it. I can only think anet doesn’t actually want us to have that flexibility.

To the contrary the zerg meta seems to be going away from condition damage because its so easily cleansed within the zerg.
Melandru and Dwayna are both ‘stuck’ on Sanctum of Rall and have been for hundreds of hours. This is an unacceptable length of time for no fix to be applied. Please fix them ASAP.

1.) How important is it to see your squad members as a different color and always visible on your map like party?
Would be nice to see them in the screen.
I think the ability for everyone in the squad to know where everyone else is is vital as others have said it may be difficult with a lot together but maybe all within a certain radius could be aggregated into 1 indicator.
So, let’s say we’ve handled the commander side of it for now and just focus on a squad system. If we added a system for squad management, what are the top 3 things you would want it to do? Examples: Show squad position, allow for orders to be sent to individual players, provide health status of all squad members, etc.

It’s quite funny. I mean, the final standings of the WvW leagues are simply a representation of each server’s coverage and not a lot else. So it was kind of pointless to create much of a gap between first and last place rewards. You still get a special finisher for being on the most stacked server with the greatest WvW population though. Lucky you
As has been said in the other thread everyone who completed the achievement should have got a substantial reward given the time investment, with the top servers receiving a cosmetic reward over and above that.

Just some feedback on the current WvW CDI thread whilst there are some good suggestions it seems to be going pretty much nowhere in collaborative terms, much like the first WvW thread.

Bad luck, this will probably happen to me as well.
If you want to focus on two defensive stats like a Soldiers build, focusing on pure power is going to be your best bet, because the benefits of mixing and matching for 20%ish critical chance here and 30% critical damage there aren’t going to help you much as you sacrifice mitigation/survivability. Which is what you’re going for Soldiers in the first place, not for the damage.
So what do you think of Ascii’s wellomancer build in that regard? Attack below 3000 but high’ish crit chance, damage and toughness.

I was specifically answering your point about players wanting it NOW, not on wanting both. If I had a choice though I would say major overhaul over quick fixes, regardless of the fact that it will take a while.
I would say though, and I said this earlier in the thread, that from a PR point of view quick wins are a good idea. Just not at the expense of long term improvements.
Edit 2: Didn’t have time last post to figure out the Runes/Sigils, but this is what I came up with for an optimal version of your build (switched the rares/exotic trinkets to ascended and used ascended weapons), focusing on damage, vitality and toughness:
I tried the trait setup today with my gear and I gotta say, I think I found my favorite wellmancer build right there. kittening love it! Parasitic Bond + Omnomberry Compote makes for a veeeery fun experience in Plague Form :O
Without Chilling Darkness I find myself using Plague#3 more than Plague#2, which has its own benefits I guess.

Suggest you read the first line of what I wrote within the context of what I quoted.
It only becomes a giant gold sink if you actively spend gold on it, this is player choice and a poor one at that.

Its not about wasting gold in the forge, its about the chance of gaining a precursor not necessarily changing all that much on an individual player basis, as evidenced by the thread referenced. The fact that you have been lucky is anomalous.
If mats can be upgraded, then they should also be downgradable…

To be honest, this really depends on how you play, especially now. It was fairer in the earlier days but now there are so many guaranteed lvl 80 rare drops each day that you could be collecting and dumping in the MF. I’m averaging around 2 exotics (hurray free dark matter!) each day just from running some world bosses and a couple dungeon path runs and dumping the rare weapons in the forge. One thing I have noticed, which admittedly may be a fluke, compared with the early mystic forge is that I’ve only been getting named exotics returned when I know crafted pearl skinned weapons use to drop quite frequently. There does appear to be some changes in what the forge is putting out and i know in the past 6 weeks I’ve had 2 very unexpected precursor drops all without spending anything.

Your level doesn’t give you more drops per mob but you can kill faster if you are level 80 in the lower level zones.
I think the concern is moot. You can look already to what has happened with making wood planks for Ascended Weapons to convince yourself of what will (or will not) happen. I think if it does change, they aren’t going to make it easier.
Wood and ore have nodes that are easily farmed. Lower level cloth and leather comes out of bag drops and armor salvage and are reliant on RNG. They are totally different.
At level 80 I don’t get many drop in these lower level areas.
The point of this initiative is not to create major projects but to discuss the basic principles behind the design of our game with you all. That can mean explaining why we didn’t do something one way or explaining why we did do it a certain way.
In that spirit why was the commander system implemented in the way it was and not with more of a fully featured squad management UI?
