Yes in their attempts to simplify their development they have actually made it worse because some long term developments like this have been caught up with it. In reality they should have done a feature patch now, and start with a clean slate.
Although one wonders about the timing of the feature patch being right on when a certain other game starts. Problem from anet’s POV is that more and more players simply don’t care because of the poor development.

Yes because celestial has less defensive stats.
The scope of the balance changes going in is massive. Honestly, putting all of the changes we talked about on Friday straight into the game today would have been extremely kneejerk, and I’m sure many of you would agree that some of the changes needed additional eyes on them before they hit live. We want the time to go through the feedback and make adjustments, and we’re already doing that.
OK this is PvE related but since youre the only one talking about the changes……… I hope you’re evaluating the effect of the crit damage change on celestial gear still given it stands to make that gear completely worthless even on the classes suited to using it.
Why the arguing based on a livestream that highlighted wip changes that are a ways off? They admitted they were still tweaking how all of this will work…..

If you did not use it before and do not want to use it after that is up to the person that is what you call horizontal progression and there are other gear sets out there that ppl would often say was worthless like givers armor and trinkets. But to sit there and look at the set that give + to all and say its ok for it to give high crit dmg then gear that made for crit dmg is just out-right wrong.
If they want to nerf it fine, but the change is so significant and the armor takes so long to make that they simply have to give players the option to change stats if they wish. They’ve done it before they can do it now, I really don’t see why there would be any objection to this.

It’s likely this nerf isn’t about performance issues. That’s the excuse, but I would guess it has more to do with Anet’s epic world boss fights (Tequatl) being trivialized by the consumables.
But it isn’t trivialised. It still takes a co-ordinated group of around 80 ppl to kill him even with embers. The complaints about Teq are that it doesn’t scale down well and is too hard, well this makes it even harder.
Wildstar wont be the undoing of guild wars 2, believe me I also speak of experience.
I watched videos of its PvP… and yeah… nothing special.
I find it significantly more enjoyable than sPvP, again speaking from experience.
I guess I just feel sad about this. Because when I was leveling for the first time I’d buy these things at various event npcs and heart npcs… And these pets would help me out. I said “wow these are cool!”. Now they make them essentially useless to anyone at all…. It’s just disappointing.
Yep, they add flavour, this change is just pathetic. Fire eles go down very easily, to have to wait 30 mins for another is just ridiculous. Like the other guy said counting the days until the other game comes out.

Then why does BG always claim to be outnumbered by both JQ and SOR when both servers have kept saying it’s not true. Do you think it’s propaganda? Or do you think BG is seeing ghost images of players who are no longer playing?

SoR going around early oceanic today with 50-60 man float team first led by Choo, then a mix zerg (led by HIRE?).
Must have been very early oceanic. I got on at around 7.00pm AEDST and that ‘zerg’ was only around 30 and it was a pug zerg led by 1 of the Choo commanders.

With how the game was released, getting it to a healthy, able-to-be-popular state, well that requires constant well thought out fundamental changes.
The devs haven’t done any of that (timely/well thought out/fundamental), so, I mean, sure these guys could turn GW2 around… it’s not literally impossible… but after a year and a half they showed no signs of being capable of it…
Lets put it this way, I wouldn’t bet on these guys with 1:20 odds.
It’ll never happen with Wildstar around the corner believe me. I speak from experience.

We’ve noticed a real change in player’s behaviour over the past little while. Profanity doesn’t bother us much but there has been a noticeable increase in disgustingly racist, homophobic and sexist comments, as well as generally abusive behaviour.
Do you report them? Because I know of players who have been suspended for abuse in chat.
celestial is +x to all stats. it should stay that way. please don’t make it 47/47/47/47/47/47/76. that just looks stupid, for starters.
Just make it 52/52/52/52/52/52/52 and you’re good to go.
Provided its at a level which provides decent damage that would be fine as a solution.
Look at it this way most ppl do not run celestial just for the crit dmg they run it because it gives you every thing that the ideal behind gen gear like celestial the fact that it was giving higher crit dmg was making it an OP item choose in a way it was a form of vertical progression over the other combos hidden as horizontal progression.
Its never been OP, in fact its been considered a joke for most classes as is and now its being made worse, far far worse.
Hmm just watched the livestream and they actually say that ferocity will be at the same level as all the other stats on celestial. All I have to say about that is arenanet doesn’t seem to have thought this through.
Celestial does more dps than full soldier and about 15-20% less dps than full berserker. With the removal of magic find and ferocity the overall celestial stat need to be buffed. I thought A-net would have exchange magic find for something else by now.
Or they need to make Ferocity the major stat on celestial.
Since celestial has higher crit damage than zerkers, I would think that it would still be higher even with ferocity. Yes it will be lowered a bit, but it would still be slightly higher. By the way how can someone have calculations already when we don’t know any of the numbers or formulas?
You need to read the OP :

Therefore it doesn’t matter how ferocity translates to crit damage, celestial gear will have far less than zerker whereas previously it had more. I can only think this change wasn’t completely thought through by the devs cause this change is ludicrous especially if they aren’t going to give us the opportunity to change stats.
We had 1 group of 30 people and 1 group of 15 jumping between 4 maps making up 45 people in 2 organised groups (supplemented by around 5-10 pugs on each individual map). Not our fault you didn’t push us. We managed to get everyone into EBG to push back the assault on our keep + take SMC.
We had 1 group of 30, and that was it. At 1 stage on SOR BL you clearly had a blob of more than 45 players, it was more like 90 and there definitely wasn’t a large group of rangers amongst them..
It’s a pity we can’t have good fights during Oceanic though. We just don’t have the numbers at that time. Can barely pull numbers to queue one map unless we get a lot of NA players staying up combined with a lot of SEA players logging on early.

The change was seen as an easy fix to appease people, an easy way out, a band-aid to temporarily hide the problem. This is why people are upset – it is extremely disappointing to see this approach taken rather than an objective look at why things are the way they are. It shows a severe lack ov acknowledgement & discussion on it from anet. It is almost like a statement saying that they are happy with the state of pve, it just needs to go a little slower. And for those of us yearning for diversity and interesting/challenging fights, that is disappointing. With things the way they are, it won’t matter what is increased or decreased in damage – whatever does the most will be the preferred setup.
I agree but I don’t see why anyones surprised anet takes the easy way out all the time.

When their pvP Lead Dev chortled during an interview about how he’d gotten a whole section of PvE quests/content moved into the PvP realms just so PvPers would have people to gank, I was certain I wasn’t going to be playing that game. Ever.

Combine that with a max party size of 4 and a mouse-moves-the-whole-screen interface and there was exactly NOTHING for me to be had there.
That would be for instanced dungeons, it will have raid type groups of up to 24 I understand. Not sure how and when they can be created however.

Not that I am looking forward to ESO … it was the devs that turned their backs on RvR in DAoC and gave us things like Trials of Atlantis. I am holding out for Camelot Unchained, personally. CU is a PvP/RvR focused game where ESO is basically a PvE game with RvR thrown in.
Not really, the RvRvR is the central PvP part of the game. Its central to their vision that players move from the PvE side of the game into the RvR as the elder game.
If you had listened to the livestream, you would have heard that the nerf to zerker damage is just a first step, and that changes to monster AI, reactions to specific conditions, etc. to balance the usefulness of damage, support and control would follow later
All that means is that Anet will once again over correct to a silly degree. Monster AI changes is all that was needed not a nerf to crit damage.
To gain a little perspective here; with 50% critical chance and 100% critical damage (reduced to 90% critical damage) the overall DPS is lowered by 2.8%.
That’s reducing the highest physical damage stat combo in the game by 2.8% DPS.
So before anyone starts marching in the streets or throwing away their ascended berserker gear just make sure -2.8% is really worth it.
Tell the devs that then, they said that it will be a 10% reduction in damage.
For reference:
(Ascended) Celestial 2H weapon + Celestial armour set gives +230 all stats and 30% critical damage on live.
This will be converted to +230 all stats + 230 ferocity after change.
(Ascended) Berserker 2H weapon + Berserker armour set gives +517 power +369 precision and 27% critical damage on live.
This will be converted to +517 power + 369 precision and +369 ferocity after change.
Wow this is ridiculous, they have to give celestial armor and weapon bearers the chance to swap.
This thread is now a dead issue. There will be no “change berserker to something else” feature.

quick edit to clarify, the devs are smart people, they knew the price would go up with ascended armor and they specifically made it one the most expensive pieces. They didn’t over compensate, they did it on purpose.
Nah I don’t think they realised the extent of what would happen. Like I said they ALWAYS overcompensate on everything, ALWAYS.
It’s a 10% reduction to the crit bonus, from what I’m hearing… not 10% to berserker’s overall damage.
Apparently they said there will be a 10% reduction to the damage of an all zerker build. That is a significant reduction.
No they shouldn’t. That would mean giving every player a gear switch every kitten patch.
There’s a change to the actual stats on gear every patch?
If they significantly change any stat on any gear they should allow that players with that gear a choice of stats. This applies especially given the length of time it takes to make ascended gear.

Well turns out it not an overreaction at all. They actually have to give people the option to change stats on zerker pieces now. No ifs or buts.

WoW = Farm a SINGLE dungeon for ONE item that has a 0.000001% chance to Drop AND when it does FINALLY drop you need to ROLL on it with 5-40 other people to see who even gets it!!!!!! AND you pay a monthly FEE to get Shafted! lol

There’s has been lots of feedback from players who have played WoW relatively recently that BiS gear in WoW now takes significantly less time and effort to get than ascended.
Well said. There isn’t enough difference between gear tiers to justify the mind numbing months long grind for it.
That is the point of it but also the problem. Arenanet wanted a grind to give a particular player segment something to do but they also wanted to make sure that any stat increase was quite low to not annoy the horizontal progression segment. In reality what has happened is that both segments have become annoyed cause you can’t please both.
All that said, I contend that the current Silk requirements for ascended armor crafting represent a substantial overcorrection for that commodity’s former price in the market.
Of course it’s become clear that arenanets modus operandi in anything (whether its the TP or class balance) is to overcorrect. I dunno why they haven’t realised this, or maybe its deliberate. Although the phrase “Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.” springs to mind.

The reason why I say I’m uncertain if it will matter is that they have a business to run and profit to make. They are going to choose which ever method will make the most money and that’s understandable from a business perspective. I’m sure they care about the game and it’s customers
A game with the extreme reliance on RNG and gambling boxes that this has is not one where the devs display a lot of care about the players.
The silk was dysfunctional since the beginning of the game. It was not even profitable to put it on the TP and we were better off selling it to a vendor NPC. Too much silk and way too limited use of it. They changed the situation drastically. It was necessary but is it a good thing in the long run?
But was it really that much different to mithril or thick leather?
At that point it becomes the player bases´ fault and its not a design failure anymore. I am pretty sure that the recipe for Bolt of Damask was well balanced at its time of approval (which is a couple of weeks before the patch) according to the droprate of cloth.
But what we’re saying is that the silk portion at least wasn’t balanced on drop rate but on how much was stockpiled.

It was done for 1 reason only, because there were large stockpiles of silk. Of course this was short term thinking, and makes it extremely hard for those who didn’t have the required amount stored.
The recipe should have been similar to other ascended recipes and they do something about the rate at which it drops.
That’s because a free market does actually work.

To be honest, Anet made more effort to incorporate GvGs in the last 6 months than i expected, they decreased the bloodlust boni and got us the arena in OS. Even though that arena gets trolled (during some matchups) it is a good addition.
Bloodlust wasn’t reduced due to GvG it was reduced because it gave too much of an advantage to the top server.
Iron left them after season, Fear and Retribution moved to FA, XPK to JQ, Choo maybe moving to kaineng? TW rumored to be moving, although they’re the self appointed kings of SoR and looking to tank the entire server instead to drop tiers.

Its cliched and confused and Scarlet is a clear Villain Sue and immensely annoying as well.
And why grind at all? You can actually play the content without getting all the achievements. And even if you want the carrot at the end, it’s so very easy to just acquire a lot of them through doing the dailies.
I don’t grind I hardly do any of the content but there hasn’t been much to the content apart from an achievement grind.
