Quite remarkable that they haven’t said anything even if its just they’re looking into it.
So I understand this guy got banned … I assume someone actually took the time to file a ticket? It’s the only way I know to resolve issues like this, and if you take the time to document it, the issue gets resolved.
The OP said he’s been reported, he also had an account on SOR and did exactly the same thing and has been reported by many people on SOR including myself. The accounts were very similarly named.
From what I understand an anet dev actually witnessed him griefing first hand and banned him on that basis. Nothing was done as a result of reports unless this dev was investigating him as a result of reports.
Anet didn’t tell any of these players to wait for the Tequatl. There is the event assistant in the upper right corner.
Well people have been forced to wait because otherwise they’ll be put into overflow. Just one of the many problems with this event.
So when you telekinetically levitate your spell book to your enemy and spin it around with dark magic, they are sliced up by…..paper cuts? Personally I think spell tomes should just be added as an entirely new weapon type for artificer; even suggested it once along side crossbows for huntsmen and polearms for weaponsmith. But of course that was before I knew Arena Net didn’t actually read the suggestions forum and only created it in the first place because they were tired of reading suggestions here and in the profession forums. You know; the places where people who might actually care could see them.
Look at an arcanist in Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn. Their weapon is a spell tome.
Cant we just agree that even if rng is random that doesnt necessarily mean its fair.
Spot on, whether its fair or not almost doesn’t matter because as I think the OP argued even if the rng is fair the odds are so small that there will always be players who could play an astronomically long time before getting a drop. Thus there should be a way to mitigate this. That there wasn’t anything in the game at launch goes to anet’s complete inexperience in these matters.
hmmm i thought fallout new vegas is better than fallout 3?
I agree it is. Skyrim then FO New Vegas are my top 2.
I like HL 2 a lot but its too much on rails for me to mark it that high.

Hi
Perhaps this has been discussed here before, as I don’t read these forums so much I have no idea. But I did search a bit and couldn’t find anything….
Am I the only one finding the games skill system to be too boring and too shallow?
Nope in fact I’ve come around to the way of thinking that unless its a moba type game that the traditional hotbars you find in most mmorpgs are a better way to go than restricting the number of active abilities. Plus they need more weapon abilities.
It’s not about whether or not it effects the end result of the matchup, but rather the effect on the players in wvw at that time. Having your guildmates being locked out of the map and being disadvantaged versus another server because of a gvg is a negative and souring experience.
If you choose to react like that when there are 3 other maps to choose from then its your issue not the guilds GvGing.
They aren’t “the server”, when they are doing a gvg they are acting as “their guild”
The only times I’ve even been aware of a gvg going on is when it was interfering with wvw gameplay. So I’m certainly not seeing any interaction, aside from the negative impact.
Hmm yet when I watch a GvG I’m rooting for the guild from my server.
If grinding isn’t fun then why are so many people doing it?
For the carrot, I’ve just finished grinding my way to 500 artificer via collecting mats rather than buying them and I felt like gouging my eyes out at the end. It wasn’t fun but they have made it so that its the only reliable way of getting ascended weapons.
…with the Living Story, it’s clear they completely abandoned most of their core principles.
I think what you have to realise is that they abandonned most of these principles upon launch. Check out the GW2 manifesto vid, my fave quote from that is in my sig.
Funniest thing about that quote is Colin left Anet because of what we’er complaining about, GRIND.
Unless its just happened Colin is still at anet I thought. It would be really great to see how the devs would reconcile articles like this with the game they have now which is clearly completely at odds with those initial ideals.
*Again stating that since THEY own the game, THEY get to decide what content is added or not added. This includes Living Story, map changes, questlines, updates, PvE, Rankings, Rewards, WvW, Leagues, if/or GvG, Server Population, etc….THEY are the only ones who can dictate the overall content and how the game is played, not US.
OK fine lets all leave the game and anet employees can play it by themselves to their hearts content.
1) My understanding is that we literally can’t match NA and EU servers up. It is about the physical locations of the data centers and the speed at which data travels. So, until that changes, interleague is off the table.
My understanding is that the NA and EU servers are both located in the US.
Don’t want to ruin your moment here but isn’t when you bandwagon the guild goes to the “winning” server?
Was Kaineng a winning server………..
Looks like DB may be already tanking to get into the silver league.
A lot of people haven’t seemed to notice that the event gives a raw 1.8 gold, which is pretty big by itself for 15 to 20 minutes of work, on top of the rares, blues, greens, champion bags, chance for a mini-pet and high chance for ascended gear and precursors,
Except it isn’t 15-20 minutes, since you’ve got to organize for it and the spawn has still got a variable window.
Spot on, for someone on my server its at least an hour with the waiting cause otherwise we’d be stuck in overflow.
And the gold is nothing anyway, I’d far rather a higher chance at the loot with no gold.
What are the odds that ANet employs at least one person who is conversant with statistics, and that they understand what the system they decided to use means with regard to obtaining anything via RNG?
Considering it’s an extremely basic flaw that has a known solution (my WoW example)…
Actually that’s my point: they should employ someone like this. Or else let them do their job. Or at least look up what it is that a known RPG designer does to make their game “balanced”.
Since you missed my point… here it is again. You’re assuming that “it” is a flaw. My assertion is that it is that way on purpose. Yes, I’m saying that ANet intends RNG to be that way.
That doesn’t mean it isn’t flawed.
Fortunately, there are ways around RNG. The Trading Post provides a way for players to trade goods on an open market. If RNG isn’t your thing, you can buy it and skip the whole “random” talk.
Except with ascended weapons. They could have bypassed this whole problem with ascended weapons by making crafted weapons tradable.
You are assuming, though, that randomized loot is (or should be) the intention. What are the odds that ANet employs at least one person who is conversant with statistics, and that they understand what the system they decided to use means with regard to obtaining anything via RNG? I think they knew exactly what they were doing, and the current system is working as intended.
That may be true, although a lot of what I see in the game design makes me wonder if they really do think things through to their logical conclusion. If true then it speaks very ill of the developers.
I’ve tried to make this same point before over the last several months. It seems quite clear that ANet has some very talented people working on various aspects of GW2, but whoever has been making decisions has been doing a HORRIBLE job of synchronizing and coordinating everything to make sure that it all fits together. Why would anyone choose a game engine that was incapable of meeting the design objectives of the content and game play?? Why is there so much disparity and lack of synergy between story lines and game modes?? Why would anyone structure the game design so rigidly that fixes and upgrades brought the resource pool to its knees??
It’s baffling, and you don’t need to know a thing about software design to grasp the failure of integration here.
I’ve been saying something similar for a long time, their project management of the game as a whole is really really poor.
You can actually craft to 375 in each for roughly 100 gp, you will be within 10-12 levels of 80 depending on how you do it.
No it won’t; not since ascended crafting was implemented. It’ll get you to maybe 50.
7 levels for each so level 56 to be exact. And since you don’t have access to T6 mats at that point you have to wait until 80 to go to 500 in the weapon crafts.
Could you please explain this? From what I have read, seen, and heard, a majority of MERC stayed on BG. If so, how is this a move “about the guild”?
It was a move about the guild, because our active commanders needed more support for our guilds playtime. A number of mercs were nearing burning out night after night covering multiple timezones. Basically from Sea all the way to EU time slots. This moves allows those who stayed with merc and transfered to carry less weight and focus more on our guilds core and our enjoyment factor. I can tell you being a merc has meant you carried a lot of weight.
So a pretty similar reason for moving from SOS to BG in the first place. Gee that worked out well didn’kitten
One of the main reasons I got into this game is because the developers in every blog, interview, and video game the impression that they believed in what they were doing. Their passion for making something better than the genre-norm was as refreshing as their reversal on that ideal was disappointing.
Spot on, the manifesto was the centrepiece of those ideals but it was in almost every single piece of info released by anet around that time eg. Colin’s blog about fun. To have them panic and go against those ideals within 2 months of launch was hugely disappointing. And then to not only not address the change but to deny there was a change at all was rubbing salt into the wound.
As for persistent world, on wikipedia its defined as “A persistent world (PW) is a virtual world that continues to exist even after a user exits it, and to whose state user-made changes are to some extent permanent”
For minor changes sure its persistent but for major changes its not really.
From a more personal point of view the treatment of world v world just makes it worse, a part of the game that has hardcore guilds playing it has been treated shamefully.
Wrong.
Having BiS gear by level 80 was intended from the beginning. In no way was it a mistake. It was a conscious decision. This is the Eurogamer quote from Johansen that is floating around.
Yeah I’ve said it before but that quote is bizarre, I think he’s either misremembering or being disingenuous. Plus there’s the fact that at launch exotic gear wasn’t that easy to get unless you did certain things exactly right. They in fact made it much easier with the introduction of karma jugs as rewards around about the time ascended trinkets were introduced.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
Anyone else tired of getting new back items in EVERY content release?
Yep they seriously need to get more creative in the rewards department.
Why all the hate towards the ONLY villain with an actual personality and interesting background and story?? (not counting the Mad King here)
What personality? She’s just a one dimensional cackling villain, a poor mans joker.
Coupled with the fact that she’s a complete mary sue of a villain.
A minority crying and moaning about a fight being challenging shouldn’t be a priority.
Except thats not what the majority of the complaints are about.
So for days we’ve been talking about Teq fight, what’s wrong with it and how it could be fixed/adjusted, and discussing how the current problems with the game has a negative impact on the community, mostly the overflow system and condition damage.
To that we got no single comment by Anet.Regarding the availability of a couple minipets we get an answer within a day.
I do like minipets but i think you should get your priorities checked…
Yes, this was my immediate reaction as well.
To be honest, if a 50-point stat buff is going to make the difference between losing to someone and beating them, you probably don’t deserve to win anyways. Running food buffs or having the new ascended gear is just as much of an advantage. A lot of commanders on my server will even throw down trays of food to buff their zergs. WvW is inherently not fair by design.
I think a lot of players, like you, underestimate what is actually going on, and as a result aren’t as bothered as they should be. Food and ascended gear add less than half of what blood lust does. And with a little effort any individual can get both food and ascended on their own – not so with bloodlust. Bloodlust is +50 PER stat, not total. That means 50×6=300. For one. 900 stat points for all three. That’s like having an entire extra full set of ascended trinkets.
I did not realise that, it makes the buff even more outrageous.
I will say it again. If the cap were raised performance would suffer greatly. That is why it hasn’t been changed.
So why the change to having characters who block count towards the 5 player cap then, which as noted is another thing that promotes zerging. It was working before so its not a system performance issue
I thought Scarlet would be getting exposure once every 6 months, not every second month. Does anyone actually like her?
I think Scarlet is the best thing to happen to this game. Seriously.
Dunno why she’s a cackling one dimensional caricature.
I’ve been away again for work and during my trip, all I could do is read the forums to follow up with updates, player response and the likes. And it’s all hate for this game here. What gives?! What did ANet do exactly to us that we’d bash them endlessly like they’ve committed atrocious, heinous crimes that deserve death on the stake?
The perception that they betrayed their ideals. The forum didn’t start to get really toxikittenil the November update and ascended items. Its reached another level with the intro of ascended weapons.
I’m not sure there are a lot of players who oppose the token idea. However, I doubt ANet will use it.
Why? They tried a token system in dungeons at launch. Players complained that the tokens took too long to get. So, they would do only the first boss in a path (over, and over and over) to maximize their tokens/time. ANet increased token rewards and back loaded all the tokens to the final boss in the path. Players used speed runs and skipping anything that could be skipped to maximize their tokens/time. ANet threw in diminishing returns. Players still obtained their dungeon sets fast, and complained about nothing to do.
Thats an issue with dungeon design not a token system. For high level loot all mmos use token systems because RNG is so frustrating for players if they don’t have any luck.
There definitely should be some kind of token system in place. Arenaent just doesn’t leanr in this regard.
Cause Colin Johanson, in a prerelease blog, stated that their overriding metric for the GW2 game design is ‘is it fun’
Just one of the may pre-release ideals that has fallen by the wayside.
That’s a matter of opinion. Something being time-gated doesn’t mean it’s not fun. One thing not being fun doesn’t mean that generally, GW2 isn’t fun either.
Time gating is an exercise in frustration for a player and thus is anti fun.
Time to move to EU. While there’s grumbling about potential matchups, the population is by far more evenly spread out than the mess that NA is …. and should make for some interesting matches. Honestly, pick any server but the top two, and you’ll likely have a blast.
I started on EU, but after a few months started getting unplayable lag all the time, and tracert showed I was connecting to the EU server via Texas, and essentially doubling my usual ping to Europe (which was already not good).
So now I’m trapped…
The EU server hardware is actually located in the US.
If you heal someone by a significant amount (1500hp? That’s like ~8 seconds of regen given out with a clerics build), and that person then scores a kill, then the tag should also be given to the healer.
I doubt its that easy. The engine can’t even cope with condition stacks higher than 25.
Do competitive WvW guilds have to stop playing to show you that you need to change it?
We are not the vocal minority, and it is the competitive WvW guilds that make up the backbone of all server communities. If that is what it takes to actually get your attention, than so be it.
Well according to his now infamous post on the testing forums, yes we should quit for them to listen.
IMO Anet is taking a huge gamble, and I can’t say they will be the better off for it in the long run.
They won’t be, they’ve completely lost the goodwill of the majority of the GW1 community and others that bought into the initial GW2 vision.
For any future games nothing they say will be trusted any more.
Its not the only reason for me.
I spent 15 hours sunday in mumble helping and out of those 10 times, we beat him once. With a 10% chance to succeed, they would have to make it 100% chance at an ascended, mini or special ascended. This is where RNG fails and really they need to go currency, and not be unrealistic with it, meaning.
Acceptable would be
1 token = necklaces, aquabreathers
3 tokens = ascended regular
5 tokens = special ascended
8 tokens = mini tequatl. At least with this, its a reason to invest time in it
100% correct. Anet have been told time and time again that there needs to be a workaround to bad luck with the RNG and they refuse to listen. Some events have had it but its just too inconsistent. It needs to be a design rule covering all events.
This event is probably the most fun I’ve had and has really brought the PvE-side of our server together.
Its just a harder jormag, a raid boss in the open world requiring players to take specific actions at specific times, which is absolutely not dynamic at all, and ends up being an exercise in frustration because its reliant on too many ppl doing the right thing at the right time.
If anet really want to innovate these types of bosses should be made more dynamic.
I don’t think they implemented time-gating to make stuff fun so why do people assume it has been put in for that reason?
Cause Colin Johanson, in a prerelease blog, stated that their overriding metric for the GW2 game design is ‘is it fun’
Just one of the may pre-release ideals that has fallen by the wayside.
If you know what you are doing and know the market, you can even make a profit while leveling from 400 to 500.
Except you probably need the dark matter you get from salvaging the exotic items you make.
Have you tried Master Tuning Crystals and Powerful Potions of Centaur Slaying? Still a large monetary loss making them, though, like everything else.
Yep discover the potions you’ll end up using 10-20 or so crystalline dusts which really isn’t too many. Also discover some exotic weapons from the T6 mats you refined in 400-425.
It might possibly be the single best piece of content added to the game in the last year but that doesn’t change the fact for quite a few people it’s about as unfun as it can get due to over tuning on low pop servers and/or the many many technical issues the fight highlights.
Also not fun for those of us who refuse to wait doing nothing for 2 hours between fights in sparklefy fen just so we can actually fight in our server and not in overflow.
It has been like this since forever but this Tequatl patch just push it over the top.
How the hell are we suppose to do the “Hunt the Dragon” achievement without Dulfy? .
We can’kittens just lazy design. This whole update is just lazy except for the change to the TEQ fight.
Funny thing about SOR. Two weeks ago it had an easy match-up and you had to wait like an hour to get into WVW. Last week it was back to fighting Blackgate and JQ and SOR losing and you could get into WVW no wait anytime. This week another easy match….and the hourly queue is back.
SOR sure does like to beat up on the little guy and when a fair fight shows up, they run home…..
What queues? I’m actually on SOR and haven’t experienced any yet except no reset day like normal.
When the league starts there will be no tiers. Glicko rating will disappear. Everyone will start on 0 points. Depending on the draw it is possible (even probable) that the current top three ranked servers aren’t going to finish as the top three.
We have to change the way we are thinking about this.
I think I see a pig outside my 3rd floor window.
Here is a preview of a T1 server fighting anyone outside of T1 (JQ,BG,SoR)
http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/map/1002Moar data needed! Besides, I’m sure FA and SoR had a really fun time testing their skills against higher rated servers.
Moar data you say, last night OC time SOR reached 660 PPT in our weakest timezone.
This league idea is beyond ludicrous and must be scrapped.
T1 NA is dying…rapidly. If you were to take Kaineng or Maguuma from 6 months ago and pair them against the current T1 NA servers, they would win.
I think you’re overstating it and its a game problem not a T1 problem. Populations down to T4 were far higher 6 months ago.
The league idea is like the increase in strentghs of ACs, anet thought it would break up the zergs, instead it had the opposite effect, just like the leagues will have the opposite effect of what anet want and drive players away from the game.

Also, we have a mix of AoE and single target on every single weapon.
On staff single target damage is negligible
Being dumped into overflow every time I try to do this fight with my actual server mates doesn’t get me pumped for future content either.
