Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
- With the sheer amount of AoE skills, it seems pretty obvious that the staff was meant to be an AoE heavy weapon. The chances that Anet would buff single target damage for the staff seems to be really low (from my viewpoint). Also, Anet would probably have to change or redo some skills which means taking more time and resources out of their staff. Pun intended? Maybe.
Obviously the issue is that we don’t have the ability to swap weapons like other classes to move from ranged to melee or from single target to aoe damage. There should be skills in each weapon set to make up for this lack and that fact that there aren’t is just bad design.
This along with our poor base health are the 2 biggest problems IMHO.
If you watch Sacrx Video. Then read the chat with dev he goes on about functions for raid UI asking them over year ago. They said it was on list of priorities. Not that important after over 1 year then.
Ya he mentioned a Raiding/ enhanced commander and squad system would take time as they want to do it right.
Every other mmo has a raid grouping system how hard can it be.
Also if you want “free” dark matter + globs + inscriptions… do dungeons that give PVT/Rabid/Dire weapons. Buy the cheapest exotic version of those (offhands like focus). Salvage them with a master/black lion kit… they have a chance at the dark matter + globs + inscription of the type of that weapon.
Which dungeons give dire stats?
Increasing base HP for ele is more valid than it seems. Initially, the ele was designed and advertised as a profession of destruction, but anet has eventually settled it as a jack-of-all-trades, probably due to the nature of the attunement system. For this reason, they could very well get jack-of-all-trades levels of HP, like engineer or ranger have/ are.
This is a must and it should have been done from the moment they reduced the elementalist damage during the beta. To me it almost beggars belief that they haven’t made such considerations in their balancing.
Pretty funny to see BG and JQ paying guild to join their servers.
Poor guys.I have yet to see anything more than rumor and speculation that guilds were ever paid to join a server.
There is a difference between helping a guild (who in all likelihood was going to transfer anyway) get all of it’s members over by donating/loaning gold to them and outright paying them gold to transfer to a server.
How about we deal with facts, supported by real evidence, rather than this crap that’s going around lately?
I’ve talked to a friend. The guild got 100% paid.
Ok, that’s great, I’m sure your “friend” has loads of “inside information”. How about some screenshots or have a guild leader swing by here to confirm?
This isn’t a court of law. I’ve also been told directly by a guild that they were offered gold to move.
By far the best RvR advancement system I have seen is in Planetside 2.
All points are accumulated account wide, and then can be spent per character.
Also, many abilities overlap between characters. So if a particular gun is shared, and if you unlock it on one, it is unlocked on all.
It really seems to strike a fine balance between viability of different loadouts, and individual character advancement.
I hope anet are aware of this.
In this thread…a lot of people who feel entitled and want easy mode.
Wvw rank is character NOT account progression end of story, how hard is it to understand really?
Stawman, no-one wants ‘easy mode’.
just because you dont like the reason does not mean that its not a valid reason…its character progression(notice character not account)
THIS
It is character progression.
Already answered, the system as implemented is a poor levelling system which doesn’t enhance role playing at all.
Also its been said in previous threads on this but WvW is mainly PvP. You are playing as yourself. Your character is largely just a playstyle not an opportunity to progress a character like in PvE.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
Is it actually doing that? Because I feel actively discouraged from playing WvW when I want to level an alt. That is a Bad Thing. If I want to WvW, I’m more likely to experience burnout on my main. That is a Bad Thing.
These are the salient points that haven’t been addressed at all.
The whole game is a testing ground. They have said multiple times in multiple interviews that what they expect happens becomes totally different when it hits live.
Yes but they should have a proper public test server.
And here seems to be the reason: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/What-A-Dev-Think-About-The-Official-Forums
Funny how the imbalancing nature of it was one of the major issues around getting rid of the orbs when Habib was here but is not an issue at all now.
Also note how they regard live WvW as a testing ground now.

In another thread, concerning Bloodlust/outnumbered, a dev stated that they don’t want to give any stat boosts to Outnumbered because of potential griefing/harassment of additional players joining the map, and causing the buff (and the extra stats) to be removed. Is this really any worse than having players being told to not use a piece of siege because someone else has abilities unlocked for it?
Of course not that is a laughable reason. Most of the time you would not even know who came to the map last. And its hardly worse than the snowball effect that will potentially happen.
The problem here is ArenaNet.
To modify a rather iconic movie quote. “ArenaNet, stop trying to make sPvP happen. It’s not going to happen.”
The fact that they’d become SO desperate to make a broken and unpopular gametype work that they would intentionally utterly destroy another gametype….really makes me wonder how inside-out and upside-down the brains are of the people running the show at ANet.
What they’re gonna get? Fewer players. Players aren’t going to migrate to sPvP (people hate it. Get with the program.). Players are going to migrate to entirely different games.
I don’t think they are intentionally damaging WvW, they just don’t know any better and are not willing to accept the fact that they might be wrong.
Yep, like sacrx said without the conspiracy overlay they are stubborn in their view of what it should be and are completely unwilling to listen and take into account player feedback when it is diametrically opposed to theirs and admit they are wrong.
just because you dont like the reason does not mean that its not a valid reason…its character progression(notice character not account)…
1. Character progression is invalid in PvP.
2. The way the system has been set up is not even a progression system, it should be more oriented around roles.
@Jonhatan Sharp
We’re working on the staff in an effort to make it a stronger support weapon, and we also improved the conjure weapons so that they’re stronger for support. You’ll see improvements to all 4 of the conjure weapons to make them stronger and better for support.
We also increased the healing on Water Blast, the radius on Geyser and we reworked
Unsteady Ground to make it function more like line of warding.Basically the upcoming “buffs” are all intended for support role , including the conjure skills which may be now more appealing to an ally.
Anet doesn’t want ele to be best at anything, it’s their intention to have the ele as a " ready for everything" high skill cap profession, what are your thoughts?
Its ridiculous, the staff is already a strong support weapon it needs buffing in terms of attacking abilities.
The explanation is that they want each character to have a unique progression path.
It doesn’t make sense to me either, but that’s what they said.
A suggestion has been made that would keep this and thats have points account bound but have characters individually choose how the points are allocated.
They have already said that they have no intention of doing this. They would prefer to address the issue by making it easier to get ranks.
As some of us said above this ‘solution’ is anything but.
They already said they won’t do this. They increased the amount WXP you get so you can rank up faster, they added liquid WXP to rank chest (though the drop rate is garbage, I got one in 40 ranks) also they said they will add a way to buy liquid WXP with (i think) badges. I don’t think that last part is 100% confirmed though.
This is all just lip service and doesn’t come anywhere near close enough to compensate for not being account bound.
We’re currently looking at a few things regarding individual fractal difficulty and length. A couple of options are reducing the length of unnecessarily long fractals (dredge) and modifying the possible sequence of randomly selected fractals so you don’t get the longest and most difficult ones all on the same run.
The dredge and cliffside fractals need to have their length reduced regardless of whether a group gets them in the same run or not. They are too long for what fractals is meant to be.
The new borderlands content and wvw leagues isn’t good enough?
Why? Since ultimately they will be to the detriment of the game.
The only gap that existed between exotic and legendary was one of time involved to get them as there was no statistical difference.
Yes thats the gap I think they meant because they were talking about how to occupy a players time and keep them in the game.
I have started using it with scavenger runes but I don’t spec into dhuumfire. Nevertheless I can still get my crit chance up between 35 and 40% with rabid weapons and trinkets which seems enough for me.
If you want a game type that more heavily emphasizes skill, you’re in luck because GW2 is one of the few MMORPG’s to even have one: it’s called sPvP.
tPvP is 5v5 they want larger scale fights than that.
I’m seeing more and more roamers with Guard Leech and/or Applied Fortitude.
For those of you who dislike Bloodlust because it makes fights unfair… what do you think about these two Abilities?
Plenty of us have raised objections to these in the past. Whilst they don’t affect GvG they are still something of a barrier to entry for new players.
We’ll never know, but I assume they panicked and lost faith in their original vision of the game.
I would say undoubtedly this is what happened. But I’ve also said before in other threads since November the fortnightly content updates have started. So why do we need the ascended weapon grind and presumably the ascended armor grind to keep us playing now?
Maybe they have metrics showing the player base was declining again but if so I would say thats more to do with the quality of the living world updates.
I feel pretty confident with our our teams can take on odds of nearly 2:1 and wipe you all.
I’m yet to see any SoR guild or group enter into a fight that was even, never lone 2:1.
What’s your guild by the way? I’ll keep an eye for you.
Well if you play at oceanic nights look for SoX cause we have been doing nothing but taking on larger groups the last 2 nights.
Colin Johnson plans for this to be the last tier of gear. Exotic was just to easy to ascertain and anet had collectively come to the decision to try at it again. Googling quotes doesn’t help your cause. We all know what they said and they know what they said.
If exotics were too easy to acquire, why not focus on that then? Work the problem. Dont come up with a solution you know will enrage lots of players. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see a few steps down the road with this one.
Work the problem, dont change the situation.
I don’t believe exotics were ever the problem. Colin was either mistaken or being disingenuous. The quotes from the AMA show that the issue is the gap between exotics and legendaries.
Below is her statement on how they wanted to make a “Sense of Satisfying Progression” rather then “gear grind”.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/
“We have always worked hard to create a sense of satisfying progression rather than gear grind
Sorry Linsey, you failed. Satisfying progression would involve a hard series of quests rather than the material grind you’ve implemented.
It’s strange to me that the sPvP team listens quite intently to what the “top” PvP players have to say, yet the WvW team does exactly the opposite. There are official PvP tournaments with high ranked teams picked for their skill level equality, and in WvW we get “leagues” where every match is practically guaranteed to be a blowout before it even starts.
Very good point, interesting that they realise that to some extent that have to accommodate the small scale PvP community but they completely disregard the hardcore WvW community.
Bring Habib back.
I think ppl are forgetting that Habib didn’t really do anything much. The culling issue was a game wide problem not something that Habib did exclusively for WvW, and the extension of his quotes regarding the orb reveal that the major reason for the orbs being removed was the hacking not the buffs. There were countless suggestions made at the time that the buffs shouldn’t be about boosting stats but they were ignored then just as they are being ignored now.
Unfortunately Anet as a whole have a view of WvW that is different from most of the hardcore WvW community and they refuse to acknowledge or accommodate the player base.
Something that content developers (be it game designers, writers, artists, etc.) struggle with is the concept that their creations are not entirely theirs. The communities around these works guide their direction just as much as the people who created them.
This is spot on and can be seen in the GvG scene. Anet have their head in the sand about not changing direction to accommodate it.
I agree with the OP 100%.
Arenanet solved the “gear disparity” issue in WoW by making lvl 80 gear easily obtainable.
Which they have now gone back on.
They told us that our Magic Find equipment would become account bound. What they didn’t say was that if the items were already soulbound they wouldn’t become account bound. Now I have useless gear in my inventory that I spent gold on and I know others spent Laurels on MF gear and there is no compensation for that. They most certainly misled us.
Re-read the quote above.
" Items that were already Soulbound to a character will continue to be bound to that character. "
They did not mislead anyone.
Well, they did add that sentence after the patch. It didn’t say so from the start. I had hopes my MF would become accountbound, soulbound on use again, so I didn’t end up with a useless set.
Ah OK I wondered why I couldn’t remember seeing it. Very shady anet you really should do better..
Not to mention the severe limits on stat combinations.
ele – engy – mes – guard – necro
for me.
Ele, guard and necro are my favourites.
Other than that, it’s currently one of the biggest money sinks in the game (the TP being the biggest sink), as each person has to individually level up weapon crafting to 500, which is incredibly expensive. The economy was inflated (invasions, champion farming, gauntlet farming) on purpose because room was needed for the imminent deflation that this update would cause.
Just my 2 cents really. Take it with a grain of salt.
I have to laugh that with all this manipulation of the economy that they continue to try and treat it like a real world economy such that they employ an economist full time. Its like an absurdist comedy.
The damage from conjures and other weaponry of the like had an unintended increase from the patch on September 3 as a side effect from another change, so this fix was just to correct that bug. It’s not to say we’re against increasing ele conjured weapon potential in the future.
If one has an ascended weapon equipped why shouldn’t the conjured weapon scale with what the player has equipped?
:
Isn’t Legendary/Ascended stat levels meant only for the Legendary weapon itself? Otherwise, wouldn’t be unfair for people to have multiple weapons being upgraded because of the ownership of a stronger one?
Why shouldn’t conjured weapons or kits, which replace the equipped weapon for a period of time, scale with the currently equipped weapon whether its blue green, yellow, orange red or purple?
Legendaries should have been account bound from the beginning. Anet can’t go back and change it now, but that doesn’t mean they have to continue making the same mistake going forward.
If ascended were a tier above legendary this would make sense but they aren’t so it makes no sense as the OP said.
There’s no justification beyond anet know they kittened up with legendaries and don’t want to repeat the mistake. But as you point out its quite ridiculous to have the top tier of weapons available on the TP and the next tier down not. The phrase shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted springs to mind.
Poor game design, and whats more completely against what anet seem to want the TP to be.
gotta love when an sor guilds get called out blobbing and the whole server comes in their defense saying we don’t blob and we don’t have coverage. You guys blob harder than the other t1 servers
Gotta love BG players coming in to troll the SOR thread even when we aren’t playing them.
I understand what Anet was trying to do with the game, but I can’t help but wonder if this is the best execution of getting rid of the trinity.
Of course it isn’t, it needed to be accompanied by good encounter design and for the most part it wasn’t.
The lead developer hasn’t necessarily changed, but one thing has changed since before the game launched…the game launched. That’s what changed.
Before the game launched, Anet had no metrics on what players actually wanted. Who would keep playing and who would leave. They didn’t realize how fast the content locusts would consume content.
But this is the same mistake countless other mmo developers have made, most famously probably Bioware. There is no excuse for not realising how fast the content locusts would burn through the game. They have other mmos as their metric.
I’m not sure it’s NCSoft’s fault. That site with company reviews, Glassdoor, has an interesting and relatively recent entry about ArenaNet here. It’s a mostly positive review, but I like the cons:
Cons – Poor pay. Poor leadership. Many, many mangers, all with differing visions/opinions. Losing company culture to big business.
“Losing company culture to big business” is something I read as “selling out their core principles after finding out there are easier ways to make money”. Which IMO is exactly what has happened.
This is of particular interest to me…I’ve suspected leadership/management problems at ArenaNet since GW2 launched, because you often appear to see competing priorities (weak central management), content released repeatedly with the same sorts of bugs (lack of effective procedures), minimal communication (lack of confidence and/or clear direction).
Spot on I’ve had exactly the same observations.
There’s clearly no lack of programming talent, but, from an external perspective, AN doesn’t really appear to be well organized on any level. Which is where you ultimately wind up with the feeling that the potential of this game isn’t really being seen and taken advantage of.
Yep I’ve also heard direct feedback about arenanet which correlates with the above comments. The game development is not being effectively project managed at most levels.
Problem is this will never be done because it “takes away from WvW”. Which you cannot blame Anet for since it is true.
We can certainly blame arenanet for not recognising what players want and not being flexible enough to adapt to changes in the environment. If GvG dies due to the bloodlust buff expect guilds to leave the game.
It’s not even an insult or troll though, my intention wasn’t to upset anyone >.>
I could do a LOT better than that if I was trying to rustle some jimmies.
Inb4 you tell me what my intentions were… again…
I fail to see how statements such as :
“What’s kinda sad is from the players that I know on SoR… they are quite abusive towards their own server members : /”
“I miss blackgate. I love how they will actually stand and fight, whisper our commanders to set up fights, etc. etc.
Even SoR roamers (that rare creature) will turn tail at 75%. Very boring.”
are not deliberately made to troll, when the statements would be true of players on all servers. Why generalise and single out SOR?
Or it could just be sunday… or monday… or tuesday… you get the picture…
I miss blackgate. I love how they will actually stand and fight, whisper our commanders to set up fights, etc. etc.
Even SoR roamers (that rare creature) will turn tail at 75%. Very boring.
Did TC have a recent influx of trolls? The last couple of times SOR and TC have played the forums have been pretty civil. No more it seems.
How… is that trolling? An honest opinion based on observation is trolling?
Also I hear EP went 6-1 against TW. ohohoho
Saying SOR roamers run, implying they’re cowards, but that BG’s don’t is clearly a troll.
All servers will have players that will run from fights unless they have a numerical advantage. Stating it as a thing across an entire server is just juvenile posturing. I’ve seen TC and SoS groups run, I’ve also seen some fight. I’ve seen TC and SoS groups hide behind siege and yes undoubtedly some SOR groups do it as well.
Like I said its just such a pity to see the thread descend into this when the previous couple of matchups with TC have been good fun on the forum.
Or it could just be sunday… or monday… or tuesday… you get the picture…

WvW is sketchy at best. Camps only have as good of a return as Jumping Puzzles, and I’m a little unsure about towers since I haven’t been lucky enough to be on during a time when we’re capping them.
I wouldn’t say it’s really worth the time unless you’re just steamrolling through all the enemies camps and towers..
Yep agreed, I get some but not much, certainly not nearly as much as the bloodstone and dragonite
Part 3: The Problem
Pulling three quotes from Is it Fun? Colin Johanson on how ArenaNet Measures Success
I’d really like to see a comment from Colin on if he thinks they are still adhering to this and if so how can he possibly think the grind and cost for these weapons is ‘fun’.
If someone wants to do it through jumping puzzles, it will take an average of 625 jumping puzzles to get 2,500 Empyreal Fragments. Assuming each jumping puzzle takes five minutes — a very generous estimate — that’s more than 52 hours of gameplay just for Empyreal Fragments.
As a comparison, it takes 84 temple events to get 2,500 Dragonite Ore. That’s 21 hours of gameplay at most.
Is this intentional?
I’m convinced they don’t actually sit down and kitten it in this manner. Not only from this update but from previous updates as well like the celestial armor addition.
On one hand, the world is busier than I’ve seen it in a long time. Obviously this has worked for them. It has done what Anet wanted it to do.
Thats the removal of culling.
No it’s not. I played the game after the removal of culling just as many hours a day as usual and the world wasn’t as busy as it was after this update.
