Having been a paying customer of anet since they formed, i can just imagine the cost of materials to craft a precursor will be. not to mention time-gated nonsense they will implement. If i had to guess, the ‘legendary’ itself will still cost an obscene amount of materials, plus the crafted precursor. Only now, the precursor, rather than being an insanely low drop (or high price on TP), it will cost an obscene amount of materials to craft in its own right.

So your looking at twice the materials/time-gated crap to craft both the precursors and the legendary. Hope i’m wrong, but i’m pretty sure Anet wont want folks making all the legendaries within 2-3 days of HoT release. And they know we are all hoarding mats right now leading up to the release..

And they do not want to ‘alter the market’ either. So legendaries will still be something for the folks who live 24×7 in the game, and the little people will take months/yrs to be able to craft one, or pay the other folks the ‘priviledge’ of using one… Thats life in this “non grinding” game…

I am looking forward to a more polished skill set in the next beta. It felt extremely clunky/slow, with no damage to speak of. Could be the gear though, as the runes were just toughness/vit on celestrial so i’ll reserve judgement.

Definately preferred mace/axe. I spent alot of time in SW soloing everything, and with this stress test, i was kinda bored fighting a scorpion or healer. Dmg was just not there to put pressure on. cooldowns were too high to get into a flow…

All in all, it felt like a less polished dervish from GW1, without the damage. Hopefully they continue to tweak with the numbers on cooldowns and damage…

out of curiousity, would a sigil drop from a savage kit replace a different drop? So if i savage a light armor yesterday, the chances it would drop a silk or two are much greater, but today it has a greater chance to drop either a sigil or a silk, so my chances of getting a silk are cut in half… Or are sigil drops independent of the crafting drops when it comes to getting items off the loot table?

i am glad you guys are optimistic, but i am just not feeling the vibe from any of these new classes. I mean, rather than giving us something new and exciting, they are recycling skills no one else really uses.

They had 3 years to fix traps for thieves and rangers, and rather than making them better, they give traps to another class. Mez skills seem okay, but only because mez are so use to being epiccally crappy in pve that anything that causes damage gets them excited.

I wouldnt be suprised if thief or ranger get the crappy spirit skills from guardian…

how, exactly, is this hurting people who earned the title more? Hurt their feelings? Its a title that wasnt taken away from them. Presumably, they enjoyed the journey to get the title. This issue only affects other people who didnt earn the title legimately, and that will be addressed. If you people are so worried about what other people think of you, you need help. If you earned the title, you should feel good about it regardless, not crappy because joe blow from idaho got the title and had it for 2 months while anet works on the fix… Now if people lost the title, then i can see getting upset. But everyone who earned the title and got all the rewards didnt lose anything, item or title wise..

Yep, feel good about your brand new expensive car that you saved up for for 2 years, knowing that Joe Blow from Idaho (and the whole Blow family) got one for free because the car dealer computer made an error.

Why would this make you feel any less towards your car? Did the fact that someone got it for free mean they took yours away and gave it to him? And using HoM connection: he would only have a car for a short time before it was taken away, just like anet will take away the titles.

I know that when I bought my Ferrari I rode it all the time until my neighbor won a lamborgini in a lottery. Then I just parked my car in the driveway and never drove it again, as my neighbor has a better car than me..

This is a little rediculous, they are so worried about taking back titles. You are hurting the people needing access more than helping the people who got the achievs. Who cares about that honestly? I’d rather have my access.

How do you NEED access though?
And I would say it hurts way more that people not having earned the titles and such have access to them than those that have earned them can’t access them for a while.

It is also worth pointing out that it is rather likely that the vast majority of people that actually have unlocks in HoM already have gotten them unlocked and thus can already use them (for free).

If, as numerous studies show, that the average person plays the same MMO for ~2 years before getting bored/switching games, etc, it does make getting these time consuming kinda ironic. People want these skins to increase their enjoyment and actually play with them, but by the time they get them they don’t use them much as they are already ready to move on..

But I was understand the other crowd. The one where they feel that these shiney virtual skins/toys are a status symbol, where they accomlpished something others can’t and it makes they feel, at least for a little bit, like they are winners in real life i guess…

If I had a wishlist for an ascended change, I would:

remove wvw infusions (keep agony though of course)
Make ascended armor base stats the same stats as exotics ecept in fractals.
Put a big/huge MF % and gold drop % stat on ascended armor
when wearing a full ascended set, 10% chance in a crit hit tosummon a lackey for 10 secs that kneels before you and tells you how great you are.

Then people would still want ascended, and it wouldnt give a competitive advantage in other areas. Anyone who would complain at that point would be complaining about losing their competitive edge (like in wvw).

Well, i see what you are saying, but the first thing that comes to my mind is, you are crazy to mention it. If you have ever played any Anet games before, they are more likely to ‘fix’ this imbalance by raising the other crafting requirements up to the light armor requirements, than they would be to drop the requirements for light.

This is anet we are talking about here. Throughout GW and GW2, i can count on one hand the the times Anet made a change that benefited the player monetarily (eg. allow the player to make more money, save mats, etc).. Usually its quite the opposite…

If you see people pinging multiple portal drops, maybe ask them something about what they’re doing in game. They might be doing something different than you that puts the “RNG” in a favorable position more often.

I don’t ‘ping’ drops, it feels like rubbing it in. But i can tell you about my experience with it. I have 3 portal drops. Now it may be coincidence, but i played hours upon hours upon days on my warrior with no drop. I then took out some other characters, did some dailies, then did silverwaste with them. Within 10 minutes of bring my ele out there for the first time i got my first drop (stray hyena). I then switched back to my warrior for another marathon session. No drops. Switched it up, brought my guard out there, and got one of an escort quest mender. within ~hour of bringing him out there. My third one dropped yesterday, and again, it was on a character (mez this time) i brought out there rarely, and got it within 30 minutes of doing a ‘cycle’ around the forts.

Only three test cases i know. But i still believe that marathon sessions on one character trigger the anti-farm code and affect your chances of a drop (my warrior had more than 24 hours out there, compared to less than 2 hours for all my other character combined). At least in my small sample size its what it looks like to me.

But as others said, it doesnt matter in the scheme of things. If I could give the extras away, or trade them for a precursor i would in a heartbeat…

Did they release any information on how these ‘scavenger hunts’ will be in terms of crafting precursors? I am curious, as Anets track record will be to shove these hunts into fractals/dungeons/etc making it impossible to do solo…

on an unrelated note, why does green still have the inherit health/dmg buff by the way? I never really understood this. If green symbolizes the ‘best’ servers of the week, with the best numbers, why do they also get the health buff?

Speaking from a silverwastes perspective, I run GS+staff in a CI interupt build. I completely destroy teragriffs and thrashers with HS+interupts. I mainly solo, but use MoD (more interupts) feedback and blink (priceless when i miss a dodge from a griff). Dropping a CS on a group of teragriffs (or any of the mobs other than hucks) is borderline comical.

in other pve, i swap out staff for sword/pistol (and if roaming in wvw) and stick to the CI build. zergs i stick to gs/staff though.

Wouldnt recommend this if just starting out on mesmer though. you need to recognize the victims movements and when to interupt, etc.

I wonder if their anti-farming code kicks in with the portal stones. If you are spending x amount of hours there, killing the same mordrem over and over, does this decrease your chances?

Seems strange that i have a warrior who spent long stretches of hours out there and gets nothing, and I log in with my ele and get the portal in the first 5-10 minutes she entered the zone. RNG of course, but makes you wonder…

i just got it 10 minutes ago. Outside amber killing a stray hyena. I’m sure its not the reason, but i spent the last few days farming heavily on my warrior. nothing. Today i started on my warrior, switched to my ele and got it in 5 minutes.. of course on my ele i just kill everything and anything. on my warrior i stuck to events mostly.

i have no issue with the way they are controlling access to the beta. However, I wish they would provide full disclosure on what will be in the beta to everyone, even if its just a write up.

All a beta is is a small fraction of players running around, finding items/valuables, then going back to live and hoarding/selling based on the future market that only they know, and destroying the economy for the players that have no clue what to save, what to sell, etc…

Just remove the kick function within the dungeon itself. Let the kick function work prior to entering the instance, so if you wanted to do a speed run, you can tailor out any people who don’t qualify before hand. But once you enter the instance, you are stuck with that party.

In my experience, I see more abuse from people who, having gone through 95% of the dungeon with one group, kick folks at the end to add a friend/guild on the last boss than i do with people trying to sabotage a group…

The gap between the solo queuers and premade teams will be astronomical in this map. I was just on a team when 4 engineerings (3 guesses which build they all played, first 3 guesses don’t count). If you dont have a staff ele or a coordinate/premade team, this is a turrent paradise..

The mindset of a player playing thief is also to blame at some level. The class seems to attract the most elite jerks in the game, and even the no so great ones have severe attitude problems (in general, not all). I attribute it to the playstyle of the thief.

When I play my thief, I’ve noticed that I play more like an jack*** than with any of my other characters. Dunno why, its a subconcious thing i guess, but on any other class i’m friendly, helpful, etc. Put me on a thief, and i’m bloodthirsty, vengeful semi-jerk who’ll chase a target all over gods creation and farm them into oblivion just for looking at me funny…

Hi,

I sent a support ticket into the mist on April 5th regarding my GW1 account. It’s been over a week and I haven’t heard anything back yet. I still cannot log in and I am not sure how to escalate this to whatever department, however small, still supports GW1.

I imagine that it’s a single Charr who was too slow to run out of the basement when the rest of the team stampeded into GW2. He has a NetWare 286 book on his desk and half a slinky. Can he answer my request for help? I’ll be nice and not bring up humans and stuff. Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur…

Something has changed. Not sure what it was, but it is surely different. When I first started, unranked was fun, relatively balanced with good matches. Now, every match has 2-3+ of the same class (this week seems to be necro, at least 2 necros on every team it seems). Worse is on ranger or engineering daily day.

Then you have the crap like courtyard popping, and folks relogging in their range toons. Thieves have it pretty bad right now, in general. Turret engineers, shout warriors and fear necros seem to be the rage in all unranked matches. And these are the worse to fight as a thief.

I’ve been taking a break from pvp, its just not fun anymore.

In my opinion, they should make turrents only fire if the engineer is within 200 of them. They would prevent the spreading them out issue where you cannot even aoe them. or putting turrents on a ledge and staying on a point below.

Then turrents should explode if the engineer gets 900 from them. This would address the issue where engineers can leave turrents on points, go clear across the map and let the turrents delay a cap.

The current iteration is frustrating. Not so much as a ‘leave them on the point, grab another’, but the fact is every match has 2+ engs, and leaving one point only to find another is frustrating to say the least.

its not the class balancing that is the problem, its the dailies and the matchmaking. Take ranger for example. By themselves, they are quite balanced. But every match (especially on ranger daily day like today) has 3+ of them. I just played a match with 5 of them, and of course, it wasnt 2 per team, but one on one team and 4 on the other.

That matchmaking is what makes sPvP ridiculus to play.

i want the old tornado back. The one where it would pump up the damage on your other skills, so you could throw out a MS + tornado and cause massive damage. Thats the last time this was ‘elite’ worthy.

That said, i wish they would let us slot anything in the elite slot. The ele elites are situationally useless. Only thing i would use tornado on nowdays is in EoTM, when you have enemy on a bridge or near a cliff and tornado them all off…

I’ve been in a few matches after the patch, an i’ve been immediately feared (necro), knocked back (ranger) and stunned (hambow) in different encounters. I baited the necro’s CB off first, so i know it wasnt that. Maybe it was bad luck, but I couldnt stand on point at all and even going for a SYG stomp i was getting cc’d into oblivion. Just wondering what others were experiencing after the patch..

I don’t craft ascended either. The sheer cost of the materials and the time-gate is not really the issue, at least the direct issue.

Its the fact that Anet has a habit (both in gw1 and gw2) to change stats/gear in future patches, and if/when they change the stats of, say, celestrial and/or zerk gear, that would make me rage more than anything if i crafted the ascended gear that changed..

Ranger stomping is almost worse then everything else, if the ranger has a brain:
1. They can stealth stomp
2. They can body block with pet.
3. They can stab stomp
4. they can can apply poison/cc/blind either directly or through pet

In PVE, you want to be full zerk for the most part. When levelling, I levelled solo as d/d, which has alot more mobility and more forgiving when soloing. However, in group events, i switch to staff and bomb from the back.

In terms of spvp, i play both d/d and staff (cele on both). Both have the identical building other than swapping out blasting staff trait when using staff. My staff build is extremely tanky, and i can bunker points pretty well. d/d build is a harasser, pushing, etc. really depends on the team, but since they use identical builds, you can swap quickly at the beginning depending on the team makeup.

As for WvW, when i’m roaming or catching up to the zerg, i go d/d (better 1v1 potential). When i get to the group (or just being lazy), i go staff and provide dps/cc’s from the back line.

the bad:
boring after awhile. Staff in spvp is very fun, but with a, lets say, headless chicken type team,, it can be frustrating.

good:
weapons fit in any mode, and you can adapt quickly to what you need. As long as you are good with kiting/positioning, they are a strong class.

One thing though: people above are saying to use soldier runes. Not sure where thats coming from (i don’t do dungeons much anymore, mainly pvp/wvw). But you’ll hit/heal like a wet noodle with pvt runes. I’d go zerk in pve and learn not to get hit… pvp/wvw its cele all the way (for good balance between dmg and healing stats)..
Regardless of the mode, positioning is key. keep an eye out for thieves in pvp/wvw, if you see them coming you can usually handle them, but if they get their little pre-load cdc+steal+backtab, you are gonna be put on the defensive quick.

If you have a ‘kill X amount of people’, all you will do is:

1. have people pick that stupid courtyard map every kitten time
2. get their kill then goof off the rest of the match (or leave) if they were not serious about pvp anyway.

I think they should reward folks that don’t play on the daily class. eg. On ranger daily day, all other classes get 25% more pvp track rewards or something other reward type thing.

In my opinion they should:
1. remove dailies completely from ranked. only unranked and hotjoins count towards dailies.

2. randomize the daily class win for each account.
3. Change ‘class win’ to ‘advance pvp reward track’. this will get people out of the map rotation quicker if they don’t want to be there. A ‘win’ daily makes idiots requeue over and over as alot of them cannot seem to win.

4. fix match making so that only one of each class is on on each team. If this breaks up premade stacking, so be it. premades, imo, should be playing in ranked against other premades who have the same resources (eg. voice chat).

5. increase rewards for the non-daily classes.

i just don not understand the balance algorithm. 3 necros, 2 rangers on one side and 3 guards, 1 warr and 1 eng on the other. How hard is it to balance it so the necros and guards are broken up to make it somewhat equal?

The worse last night was the 3 engs (who all happened to be turrents) and 2 guards against 3 thieves, 1 warrior and a ranger.

I think they should just implement back filling into a match when someone leaves. In my opinion, it’s Anets issue anyway. But taking away soloq and causing these frequent premade vs solo crap, i do not fault people from leaving when getting continously stomped..

You both do realize that every projectile has similar properties and that complain would have to be applied across the board.

No, they can leave other projectiles, because they don’t matter. Ranger LB makes WvW extremely frustrating at times and should be adjusted, that’s the main problem.

Ranger are not all that great at WvW. It can be frustrating in a blob getting pewpewed from afar, but it is way way worse having staff eles in the back of a zerg hammering AOE on the blob…At least the ranger is only single targetting from range…

you can dress up the facts anyway you want, but when you come down to it: A average/poorly played ranger can easily kill an average/poorly played any other class. Also to this point, a ranger excels solo: you don’t need coordination of your team to kill (for the most part) against average folks or pve mobs.

Since most of the population base falls in the ‘average’ category, thats why you see rangers listed as ‘easy mode’. That is also why you do not see many rangers in the high level teams as well. As good+ players wreck them.

And going back to the port that said one reflect destroys them (lb rangers), that proves my point: the average level player sticks to LB like glue, and when in melee range waits for PBS to come off CD (or entangle). A good ranger swaps to s/d or gs, which reflect doesnt do anything for. Unfortunately, a large majority of the ranger player base just spams RF, pbs and occasionally the stealth shot. Most dont even swap pets..
