The mentor tag should only be visible to everyone in a city. As soon as you are in a world zone only the people in the mentors group should see it.

This will allow mentors to recruit new folks in cities, and then lead them around like sheep in real zones, without griefing the commander tag folks..

once you fight them a bit, the snipers are not bad. The mushroom ones are kinda funny at times. The thing that makes me rage is the devil bowling ball things that roll into you in packs of 8+ for 2-4k a hit with multi hits per roll. and if they get you against a wall, its hilarious…

I find it mindly amusing that over powered skills, such as the guardians stacking-burn issue, ele’s cele d/d, even the perma thief, are allow to continue with the reason “let the dust settle, we’ll look at our numbers and determine if a fix is needed”.

Then a ranger suddenly has a skill that is effective, like HaO, and it is nerfed within 2 hours.

for one thing, if you already completed all of HoT, why do you care if they now make it easier? your done right? But all i read in this thread is complaining that some folks are scarred that they will not the only <insert elite class> around for awhile. They need that validation to make themselves look important.

Its like the old GW1 days, when people would find a farming spot, farm it for days on end making millions, then cry to anet to nerf it so no one else can make money and they can have 1000x the money as anyone else. This is a prime example of kitten…

If they locked a new necro minion behind group content like this, or a new elemental for ele, people would be in an uproar.

With the hero point change yesterday, Ranger is the ONLY class that requires you to play group content (zerg content, not group content) to complete their class and get their core functionality. Its bad enough that more and more content is going behind group content, but this is just atrocious.

And for the folks that say its an accomplishment to get it, how is that? The ranger is, but most standards, the weakest class in a zerg. So if you join a zerg and get these pets, all that means is that you were lucky enough to have more friends who carried to you get your class features. that is something to be proud of right there.

I can just imagine the uproar if they gated a new necro minion like this. Or a cool new special-skilled illusion for mesmers. Or a new Elemental for ele. But its the ranger class, so everyone is cool with it.

I don’t mind pets being hard to get. But I find it odd that the ranger class is the only class that has to play group content (and coordinated group too, not just a pug) to get a major component of their class function. Even after the change were you can technically get all your elite skills on any class now without doing any group HP, the ranger is the only class that has to go through this crap to complete them.

well, i appreciate this change. At least now i can use the elite skills to do something, as opposed to finishing all the PvE content and when you finally get the skills, there’s nothing left to use them for (exploring wise).

This is what I feel as well, its as thou they created a new game rather then continue the old one. From casual solo to hardcore group oriented.

You haven’t seen “hardcore” then. New maps are group oriented casual. If they are too hard for you – get better. Or play older maps, cuz they are easy and designed for solo play. Me, my guild, all my friends – we waited all this time for harder group oriented content. And now we are finally enjoying it!

With all due respect, isnt that what Fractals and dungeons are? Group content?
Anet designed this game to be a little bit for everyone: guilds, groups, solo, etc. If you want group content, go to fractals or dungeons. Open world should be for everyone. Difficult? yes, but not impossible to do solo.

Thats my disappointment with HoT. All solo folks had was open world. they cannot solo dungeons or fractals. Now with HoT, anet said dungeons and fractals does not provide enough group content. So rather than address that issue for the groups, let’s tell the solo folks to go play some other game and we will tailor the whole game towards large groups. In my opinion, they should have released awesome new group content like new dungeons/fractals/etc. and let the solo folks have SOMETHING to enjoy in HoT.

Look at Hot objectively: they obliterated open world solo play. They just about destroyed small group roaming for WvW. They told small guilds to buck up and join larger guilds to enjoy guild content. Its the ‘zerg’ mentality. Anet’s idea of making things more difficult is making it require more people, rather than creative ways to make it more difficult.

Here’s a trick for you (though i’m sure Anet will change this, as its advanteous to the players, and the core whiners will cry to nerf it).

Get the solo HCs you can, there are a few (wish they were marked solo/group, but thats another issue). Then go to EoTM and run with the zerg for a bit. If your new, you rank up fast and get those proof of whatever things. Trade 10 of those in with some badges and you get a scroll that finishes a random HC in magumma. If you hit all the easy HCs manually, this could be a way to get the remaining non soloable ones.

One other tip: I walked into HoT areas with my standard zerk layout. While it worked, it wasnt as efficient. I changed my melee ones to more sent/soldier/etc pieces, and that helped a bit on those (casters/range i left zerk).

Look at all you idiots gloating over the nerf to EotM.

For years you cried about how kittenty the rewards were in WvW, then comes along EotM and the rewards were better.
And now it’s been nerfed, and WvW’s rewards are still kitten.

They should’ve buffed WvW to be on par with EotM. But you spiteful little kids couldn’t see that. Good job, give yourself a round of applause.

“If i cant have fun, no one else should”

1. I don’t see how running in a circle avoiding fights should be rewarded at all.
2. Not everyone plays for loot. For me killing other players is the reward.

This is a great example of folks who trash talk EoTM and never step foot in there. I play both WvW and EoTM. and there are more ‘avoiding fights’ in Wvw than there is on EoTM on ANY given day. I get in more fights roaming EoTM than Wvw, more zerg fights, etc. Granted I am on a tier 1 server, but none the less, EoTM is much more diverse than ‘running around in circles avoiding fights’. And this was before the map change, which will make WvW even more of a karma train map. I’m already seeing mesmers hiding in the keeps easily, waiting to port folks in for the stealth cap..

But hey, think what you want. You got your nerf. But don’t expect to see the majority of EotM folks flock to WvW to put up with these elitest attitudes (especially with the new maps). They will leave either stop playing EotM and go Pve, or just stay in EotM and grind it out. So in the end you cries for nerf didnt help your preferred game mode either. Your efforts would have been better served asking for buffs to the WvW rewards.

Daily WvW Veteran Creature Slayer

The WvW dailies need a rework. Not only is the the Vet daily not working but the camp daily is not efficient anymore when compared to the other dailies. They need to make it one camp now.

In the time it takes to walk to 2 different camps and flip them, I can play TWO full PvP games on two separate characters, completing all 4 sPvp dailies. That is just ridiculus.

But back on topic, I roamed WvW yesterday, killing every single vet i came across, including shrine bosses, and couldnt complete this daily.

They really want every single aspect of this game to be a ridiculous grind, it seems. Didn’t realize this was a Korean MMORPG.

Actually I think by them nerfing EOTM rewards it puts WvW more “on par” with rewards then how it was prior HoT patch.

Maybe they didn’t want everyone using EOTM as a train for badges, wxp, exp, badges, karma, and loot, instead of playing wvw completely.

Heaven forbid they raise the WvW rewards to match EotM, rather than nerf EotM to make it just as pointless as WvW…

You will not be able to buy favor with gold. We want favor to be a currency with value for the guild system in Heart of Thorns and do not want it to become trivial for some guilds.

I have a feeling that large guild will find gathering favor trivial irregardless of being able to purchase it, assuming it works like influence, but small guilds will have a much harder time. I am a member of a very small guild, and I’ve bought influence on a couple of occasions to speed up the upgrade process a bit since we gained influence so slowly on account of our member size. I worry that with the new system it will be futile to even think about getting a guild hall etcetera.

Anet wants you to gravitate towards a big market/guild. This is their way of trying to get many little guilds into big guilds. The whole ‘blob’ mentality. Kind of reminds me of MLB baseball: get the best players into the biggest markets for the ‘pricer rewards’, and wave bye-bye to the little markets who cannot compete.

with the changes to minions/pets/clones/turrents in HoT, the ranger rune is alot more attractive for eng/rangers/mesmers as these things will rarely die (in PvE anyway) now. Much easily to keep up the 7% dmg bonus in all pve (openworld, dungeons, fractals, etc).

I like scholar, but if you ever solo, like SW or Hot harder content, keeping the 10% bonus may not be as easy. Whereas if you are a pet-class (eng/ranger/mes/necro) you always have the 7%

I don’t think there are alot of people crying about it to be honest. There are FAR more EotM players than WvW players. But, like sPvP, the few players there are the loudest.

I never really understood why, for whatever reason, the so called ‘vets’ want to nerf someone elses game experiences just to improve their own. Why not put your energy toward improving WvW rather than ruining another game mode?

all the new HoT changes are is a nerf to solo players. Any other player in a guild just asks their friends to represent their personal guild while building their personal guild bank, then rotate to the next person.

So in effect, all Anet did was prevent solo folks from getting the same personal guild bank that other people will ‘exploit’ to get..

Raids excludes players, and it's ok.

I never understood how raiding is deemed the mecca of skillful players. Once the strat is figured out, it becomes just another dull routine. All raiding shows me is that some folks are willing to sink more time into one activity than another. (and yes, i do fractals/dungeons too, so i lump myself in there)

And raiding rewards is not exactly some sort of status symbol, at least to me. I see anyone with that, I don’t think ‘skilled’. I just think its another person with alot of time invested, with advantage of a decent guild backing them.

sadly, this game is moving away from its roots and going into the realm of time-invested=better rewards.

As long as the Silver Wastes chest train keeps chugging along pumping out gold like there is no tomorrow, they can nerf salvaging/dungeons to the ground for all we care !!

Unless I am missing something here, SW will be indirectly nerfed into oblivion. About 75%+ of the money made with SWs are from salvaging the crap in the chests. Depending on the salvaging nerf, it will decimate Sws farming and make it a huge waste of time. For those that played GW1, the best comparision were the dunes farming, when Anet decided that those critters wouldnt drop anything anymore..

I really wish they would have announce this earlier. Being mainly a solo player, they completely and utterly just said ‘get out, we don’t want you playing our game.’ Salvaging mats is the only real way to make money if your not into dungeons/raids/fractals.

Then I guess I’m not doing it right then because I never bother with salvaging anything but yellows (green and blues that don’t sell on the TP I just end up NPCing) for the Ectos. Still make more money there on a per hour basis than anywhere else I can think of, LOL.

I think you need to reassess that routine. The sum of the mats you get from salvaging the blues/greens from the purses goes well beyond what you get from salvaging a few yellows.

Meta builds, does everyone use them?

starting with the meta is usually not a bad idea. most of the time, people figure out synergies that i may have missed. But usually i start swapping out traits/skills/gear according to how i like to play.

Another thing to remember is that the meta is usually the result of some person in youtube videos or in ESL. The youtube guys cleverly edit out the deficiencies of their builds, and the ESL folks are on teams that provide support that you will not normally see and day-to-day play (even on guild teams).

use the meta to practice, and tweak it to your preference…

All i see here is that certain individuals have made their oogles of money farming SW and now want to stop others from making as much money as they are (Rich person ego syndrome, being rich only matters if others are poorer than you)..

In terms of fractals/dungeons, they already have unique skins/items in there (legendary armor, components for ascended/legendaries now, etc)). To make these the sole method of obtaining money too is shortsighted and quite frankly insulting to folks that like to play in other areas of the game.

In regards to the ‘more roamers during golem event’, that really shows a player bases true colors. With alot of folks abusing the exploit, and ANet not doing anything all week about it, you got take 2-3 roamers and completely obliterate a decent size zerg. THATS why there were more roamers that week. individuals were buffed ridiculously while abusing the bug.

i find it ironic that WvWers complain about EoTM being ‘karma train’, but lately i get in more fights there than in WvW (T1 server). It seems zergs try to flip quick and avoid fights (for the most part) in WvW nowadays. And in terms of roaming, every single roamer i come across is condi based, and about 80-90% of them will be a PU mesmer.

For me, as a dedicated roamer, its become very stale. Fighting only mesmers gets old after awhile, and most folks i run into run away or are in greater numbers that roaming is made pointless…

Auto-attack comparision (no traits, soldier amulet):
Nades: 3x 331 dmg (1/2 sek casting time) =~1000dmg + perm 15 stacks of vulnerability
Flame-Thrower: 2000dmg (when enemy has burning) + 2 sek o burning
Bomb: 1200dmg + perm 5 stacks of vulnerability

Durring 20 second test:
- Flamethrower – 8 attack chains = 16k damage
- Throw Granage – 20 attacks = 20k damage
- Bomb – 24 attacks =28,8k damage

Players are using Throw Granade instead of bombs becouse you inflict much more vulnerability and more random bleed from multiple critical strikes.

To have same damage as Granade Auto attack, Flame Jet damage needs to increased by +25%.
To keep up with bombs – +60%

Of course my calculations are wrong becouse I don’t use here scalling numbers (which makes difference at 25 might party), but just random thought.

Anyway if you use Flame Jet you will take HUGE damage from retaliation:
- Versus single enemy with retaliation 10×250 dmg =2,500 Damage taken per Flame Jet
- If you menage to hit maximum amount of targets (5) with retaliation (typical WvW scenario) =50 × 250=12,500 damage taken per FlameJet.

10% or 20% damage changes won’t change a lot :P

patch notes says its been increased by 11%….

I don’t want to see EotM taken out of the game. I like it. Like a lot of people, I use it to level up new toons before I take them into the real WvW. Nothing worse than an uplevel running around EBG, weakening the home team.

But what I would really like to see happen is for EotM to not accrue WvW badges or WXP ranks. I think this is the biggest ripoff. There are Diamond Legends in the game that have never set foot in WvW. Never had to defend their garrison or other keeps. Never flipped SMC with just a small group while the zerg keeps the opposition busy at their keep.

The whole point of the WvW badges of honor and WXP Ranks was to demonstrate experience in WvW. EotM completely destroys that notion.

Other than that, I have no problem with EotM. It serves a purpose. Many people that play there are not likely to play WvW if it went away. They’d just go somewhere else for their karma or leveling. For example, I’d probably end up going to HotM to level my toons instead of EotM.

So what if they get a title? If those inexperience folk stay in EotM, it shouldnt affect you anyway. People are so worried about what the other folks achieve rather than just enjoying the game themselves. The Eotm folks enjoy it, let them have it. You reason to punish them. What Anet should do is increase the rewards in WvW, maybe add in some unique WvW skins, titles, etc…

Conditions and stealth, it's ruining the game

I think its a bit silly that to counter this, you cannot move nor use skills. Then Anet in their infinite wisdom decided that wasnt enough and changed confusion so it also ticks passively regardless.

I roam alot, and just this morning alone out of every single roamer i saw, every single one was a mesmer. every. single. one. Ran into a few d/d’s trying to get to their zerg, but the roamers trying to flip camps, and, well, roam, were all pu mesmers with the exception of myself (was on my power ranger this morning).

I want variety. This is becoming extremely boring, and extremely stale. I wish Anet had a sense of humor. They should make some npc mobs PU mesmers with the same skill sets and the perplex rune just for kicks. Then the PVE folks would be screaming bloody murder when mobs can disengage/stealth for long periods and pile on condis while invis. Then maybe something can be done..

say what you want about EoTM, but at least in my experience:

1. it is always more populated (and greatly so) than WvW at any given time.
2. I get in more meaningful fights, both zerg v zerg, roaming and duels in EoTM than borderlands. Yeah some of the zerg fights can be lopsized…but on average, more even fights in eotm than WvW.

3. Wvw is becoming more ktrainish lately…

They should never remove content to fix other content. If you want to entice more people into WvW, make it better, don’t remove an area many folks like..

Just because you do not like it doesnt mean your opinion should force others to stop playing what they like. I play both, and on average, EoTM is ALOT more populated than WvW on most days at any given time (and i’m on a t1 server). So EoTM is popular with some folks.

Let them play what they want and ask for buffs/new features for the content you like, rather than remove the content you don’t like.

Real Frustrations for the Causal Player

There is nothing in this game that means anything that can be soloed anymore, other than silverwastes farming for mats.

You want legendaries? You have to group up and do dungeons (even more so in HoT i imagine). WvW? Sure you can flip camps as of today, but they are changing this in HoT to prevent solo folks from soloing camps. PvP? My experience with the rank queue, especially recently, is to get a premade or suffer due to the fact you’ll face premades a majority of the time.

Anet is doing a stand up job eliminating solo folks completely from the game. Sure, you can level 1-80 solo. But once your 80, if you dont group you are excluded from all worthwhile content.

ACs useless for defense now?

i think this hurts wvw long term. This will only promote large blobs. And if EoTM has taught us anything, this will eventually lead to folks not defending and running when the opposing blob is bigger.. Which means ktrain part 2.

short term we may seem some fights. But eventually the same servers with outnumbered advantage will wear everyone the 2nd class folks down. ACs was the main means to compete against the blob…

This whole legendary armor feature is not sounding very appealing to me. Sure, you can change stats and switch to condi. But how do you switch the runes? Assuming you are in zerk with strength runes..then switch to dire/sinister, the strength run stays in the armor, correct? So at that point, you either eat 70gold and put a new condi rune over that str rune, or you buy upgrade extractors…which are just about the most ridiculously priced item on the gem store.

And if you switch often, the switching of these expensive runes will cost a fortune. Or am I missing something and runes can be switched too?

I enjoyed the game up to this point. I like the way someone like myself can get a legendary in my own way. If i don’t do dungeons/raids/fractals, i can still get resources/items from other sources and make my legendary (or buy it outright). It might take me longer, more coins, etc but at least its something i can work towards.

But if what i’m hearing is true, that once again, Anet is taking choices out of the hands of people like myself and forcing me to do stuff I wont do (and beating on an AI that is predictable over and over is not difficult to me, just boring), and i’ll have nothing to work towards, then I guess i’ll just move on…

I’m just hoping for bank tabs and storage expanders… maybe makeover kits as well. :B

Judging from the recent past with bags, if these are available, they would probably make the sale for just one per account.

I wish they would put the reaper shroud on F2 and let it share a cooldown with F1 shroud. That way a necro can decide which shroud to use on the fly. And since they would share the same cooldown, it wouldn’t make it OP…

Trap Ranger in WvW is actually pretty overpowered with trapper runes.

Thats just silly. A trapper ranger cannot fit a stun break into their build usually (unless they sac a trap). If they trait for traps/condi dam, they sacrifice condi clear and vice versa. Not to mention their pets are next to useless in a zerg in wvw.

They are decent, but no where near OP. When i’m roaming on mine, I can hold my own on 1v1 depending on who i’m fighting. But its no where near as ‘OP’ as my mesmer roaming. In a small havoc squad I can add to the team. In a large zerg he’s borderline useless.

People use Meta for PVE. Why?

The game is complex for new folks. I know when i first started, I scoured the forums to learn everything i could about the synergies between traits/skills that I may have missed. To that end, its easier to start with the ‘meta’ build, and then tweak it to your playstyle as you gain experience.

this EoTM bashing really needs to stop. If you never go there because its too ‘kitten’, then you shouldn’t be qualified to say what EoTM is or isn’t.

for the record, I play both. And quite frankly, I get into more fights in EoTM than i do in WvW, on average. And EoTM is populated at any hour, at least for my server (BG). Do people ktrain there? Sure they do. But i see the exact same thing in WvW, where the 80% of the blob moves to an unguarded keep to flip anyway. Or hides siege in an semi exploitable spot to stealth cap….or has the mesmer stealth port to get easy captures to avoid fights. Isn’t that ktraining just under a different guise?

Yes, some fights in Eotm are lopsided due to uplevels. But not all. And usually these lopsided fights are caused by the so-called ‘zerg busters’ guild groups that have to boost their ego in EoTM by farming uplevels and such.

And again, I play both. I roam in both. I zerg in both. I look for fights. I flip keeps/supply/etc. Depends on the commander on the types of fights you get in either place. Both do the ktrain, only many of the WvW folks try to hide that fact for some reason.

The only differences I have witnessed between EoTM and WvW, the score doesnt count in Eotm and elistist folks in WvW scream and yell at folks for being <80 level.
